Unusual flavors. If you sign up for their facebook page, they'll tell you what they're serving that day. I was particularly impressed with the chocolate orange flavor, but they change every day and you never know what is going to be available! They also have juices which I haven't ventured into yet. It certainly provides a unique twist to the cold treats available on Colley (including Skinny Dip and Y-Knot gellato), but this place is hit or miss depending on their flavors. A refreshing addition to Ghent. With the epic flop of Chipotle on Colley, Strawberry Fields is a pleasant surprise. Their savory, fruit-infused gelato stirred memories of strolling through an historic European village on a hot summer day and cooling yourself with such a delightful treat. The homemade gelato here is a little scoop of heaven. Tonight I had had half brownie, half key lime pie. The brownie was absolutely amazing. It has an incredibly rich, chocolately flavor. The key lime had a tangy, sweet, and tart lime with hints of graham cracker crust. It was absolutely delectable. You can't just pick one gelato. OMG as soon as I had a few bites of the gelato I was like I totally need to write a review for this place. I had the jelly filled raspberry gelato and it was absolutely amazing. The gentlemen that helped us was also amazing, I can tell that he put a lot of love in what he does. We ordered a strawberry field smoothie, as he was preparing it, he seemed like a "fruit ninja" he moved with agility and speed. He let me try as many flavors as I needed :) I am just amazed with the experience that I had to share. I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND TRYING THIS PLACE!!! A fun experience for your taste buds!!! read more

This gelato shop is a MUST stop on your stroll down Colley Avenue. One spoonful and I was hooked. My eyes snapped shut at each taste of my Strawberry Milkshake gelato, giving me no choice but to stop and savor the moment. Not sure how the gelato maker measures out the exact amount of magic into his creations, but I am eternally grateful for his passion. Really liked the sidewalk sign with the vertical growing wall of flowers, and it's so "green" to be paperless with an iPad register! I cannot wait to visit again. We've had all kindsa gelato and the smoothies are super flavorful and don't leave a "the crap just shat in my mouth?" feel in your throat. I heard great things about this place on Yelp and decided to try it out when I was walking down Colley. They had several unique flavors and they were very eager to give me samples. It was better than I expected it to be! I would just recommend that they write the names of the flavors next to them so that you don't have to ask which each one is. Overall, great little gem. If you haven't been here, you need to make it a priority. They make their Gelato in-house and their smoothies are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Sure, they are a little expensive for a smoothie, but it is SO worth it. Fresh fruit, delicious gelato, blended to perfect. If you like peanut butter, the PB&J Smoothie should be the first thing you order. I don't think I've ever gone in there and not ordered it. Of course I try samples of the gelato if I see fun flavors and the staff is so friendly they don't mind even though most of them recognize me and know exactly what I'm going to order, haha. My boyfriend and I walked in here literally the day after it opened. We have been back many times since. The gelato is just wonderful. Strawberry Fields is hands-down one of my favorite places in all of Norfolk. Our our out-of-town families love it too. When my dad was here we ate there 4 nights in a row. They are always changing up the flavors (follow them on social media to stay up to date with the flavors) and they are always amazing. The flavors are always so unique but so good. My personal favorite is the Olive Oil one. It sounds terrible but it's actually amazing. They've also done a Krispy Kreme (which straight up tasted like a Krispy Kreme donut), Dirty Chai, Captain Crunch, Nutella Marscapone, and then of course classics like chocolate, stracciatella, cake batter, etc. YUUUUMMMM. read more

This quaint little spot is fantastic! They make home-made gelato! And use fresh fruits for their smoothies/fruit juices! They're just terrific! Space is a bit small, but it is very suiting for the area. Also note that they do allow tasting first before you order, and do not be shy to come back frequently, they do change the flavors out often. Oh and how cute is it that they always put a doggie bowl of water outside for all the ghent walking dogs! Huge fan of animal friendly spots :) Perhaps the only con to this place is that there are absolutely zero seating inside. Granted it is an extremely small shop, I think they could manage a bench or two in there. Come in, grab a gelato and head out on a hot summer day. I finally made it to Colley Ave. My main goal was this place. It was worth the wait. The gelato is great, they let you sample before ordering. I tried Pumpkin Pie and Blueberry, Going with blueberry to order. My BF ordered Chocolate Bacon and Vanilla Bean. The Vanilla Bean was amazing and I was wishing I had done half and half, the chocolate Bacon was strange but he liked it. This place was beyond wonderful. I especially love the fact that it was small and simple décor. It is encouraged to have take out for there is only one table to sit at. However the smoothies and Gelato is superb in taste and exceptionally fresh. The staff in the establishment are attentive and friendly. Honestly if your having a bad, good, or just regular ole day please come and stop by and gove this place some business. places like this need to stick arounf because the quality is off the charts. this place is ultimately better than all the other chain frozen yougurt, ice cream, and smoothie establishments I have ever been to. I don't think Strawberry Fields has the best gelato out there, but their selection is quite up there. My favorite is the stracciatella. Second favorite: pistachio. The only downside to this gelato shop is that there is no seating. I hate having to walk with with anything frozen, and having it melt and drip all over my hand. Everything here is so fresh. The smoothies are made with fresh fruit and vegetables right in front of you (nothing frozen, no concentrates). They add a little bit of gelato and honey, too. You can tell you're getting something of great quality as soon as you walk into the store because it smells delicious. The staff is always super nice, too! read more

My beau and I stopped in today while waiting for our clothes to dry at the laundromat. I've been dying to go here since it opened, but I always caught myself resorting to Skinny Dip instead. Upon entering, we noticed a clean and cheerful vibe with fun pictures on the walls and a friendly staff. A group of children were in line in front of us and each of them sampled almost all of the flavors (ughhhh). The employees kept smiles on their faces after scooping 15 some samples to the obnoxious kids. When it was our turn, we sampled the Stracciatella and the Peanut Butter Cup and LOVED them both. Without trying any more, we got a large with those two flavors. The Stracciatella was my pick. It was sweet and creamy with streams of crunchy chocolate running through it. The peanut butter cup was ALMOST as good. When it was time to pay, our cashier completed our transaction on an iPad, which was pretttty awesome. All in all, we had a fantastic time and I look forward to going again VERY soon!! read more

This place saved me after a super lame dinner on the other side of town. I got the PB&J smoothie which is absolutely delicious and filling, as well as the OG açai bowl. This was my first visit to this spot as well as my first time trying gelato (gasp!). I thoroughly enjoyed both! Located in Ghent, this was a busy place, especially on a Sunday afternoon with temps in the mid 70s like the day I visited. In spite of the small space on the inside, the employees worked efficiently to get customers in and out. The gelato was delicious! I had a small scoop of strawberry lime coconut concoction on a cone. My bf had strawberry in a cup. We agreed that the small serving was a worthy portion size - just enough to satisfy one's craving for that creamy coolness without overdoing it nor leaving one wanting for more.
