Atmospheric vibes definitely pass! This shop is comfortable and spacious. Seems like a good spot to setup your laptop and setup camp. The decor was artsy and eclectic. We really enjoyed that! The food and coffee itself felt somewhat average but the service was very friendly! We ordered iced chai, a flavored iced coffee, plus a salmon cream cheese and BEC. I spent the morning looking for a coffee shop that I could read for a while in- most of my search turned up shops with uncomfortable looking seating. However when I found aLatte Cafe, I knew this would be the place I could enjoy a coffee and a good book. The staff is incredibly friendly and speedy in their beverage and food preparation. The shop is cozy, relaxed and provided many options for seating. I had a sesame bagel with cream cheese and avocado that was perfectly toasted and had a balanced amount of toppings. My iced caramel latte was on the sweeter side of what I typically prefer, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Next time I am in Norfolk I will be coming back! read more

Another artsy coffee shop in the downtown area! From the vintage decor on the walls to the variety of seating around the cafe as well, it's a spot that truly says "This is Downtown Norfolk past to present". The staff is welcoming; they immediately greet you with a smile and are helpful when you're ordering too. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with almond milk (my usual) but I forgot to snap of photo of it. It was good. Not too sweet and the espresso was nice. Wasn't the strongest I ever had but it got the job done on that day and I enjoyed it. It was made pretty fast which I appreciated. My friend ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel which I managed to snap a photo of and their drip coffee. I'm not sure why this place is a popular spot in the area. I found it to be pretty average food and coffee wise. My friend agreed with me. But there is definitely something special about this place that I want to find out about... so I'll be making another trip to this spot when I am back in town. read more

I wandered into this place while I was downtown recently waiting for a concert to start over at the Norva. It was chilly that day, and I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I opted for the hot chocolate. Super yummy! Comfy leather couches let me sit peacefully and read a book, at least until they kicked everyone out for some kind of private kid's piano recital thing? Sort of weird, but okay. I have seen aLatte Cafe (AC) on social media and didn't realize where they were located. The other day, I had parked in the metered lot nearby, visiting another restaurant and it caught my eye on the way back to my car. I had had a full meal, but something sweet to cap off the meal never hurts. Located on Granby, the only thing that they don't have going for them is the parking situation. This, of course, is no fault of their own, but I'm sure the parking is a big factor for some when deciding to visit or not. There is street parking (metered) or paid lots like the one I parked in. Hefty fees though, so you've been warned! The vibe is a little bit of everything from antiques, to photography. There is a photograph gallery, a bookshelf full of books and board games. A section for merch too. They have a huge chalkboard with all their offerings behind the service counter. I was in a rush to get back home, so it was a bit overwhelming. I glazed over the menu in fear of being paralyzed with order fright. I saw the ice cream freezer at the service counter, so I just stuck with a cookies and cream milkshake because one of the baristas kept scooping up ice cream in blenders. Their ice cream is from Hershey and they have a variety of flavors. My milkshake was smooth! I saw an espresso milkshake after I ordered, so I'll have to go back for that. I'm not big on cafes, but I figure why not try it and bring my boyfriend (who loves coffee) here. I liked the fact that it was close to parking places, both street and a garage. One of the street parking's meter nearby wasn't working however, so I had to go to the garage. It would've been about the same price wise no matter where I parked (about $2.50), so it wasn't a big deal. The vibe was nice, very eclectic interior. They have a good range of seating as well as books and board games on the shelves to keep you entertained. The staff were also chill. We ordered a BLT, bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, as well as the works on an everything bagel. Portion wise, they have appropriate sized sandwiches, and the BLT had a good amount of bacon on it. The lettuce, tomato, and onions they serve are fresh as well. They have a good amount of options for everything: coffee, tea, milk, food, and ice cream. The wait time wasn't bad either, they bring you your food, while they call out your drink orders. My only complaint was that I had to remind them about my bagel. Since they write orders down in a notebook, things can get lost. While they weren't busy, they still forgot since it was apparently on the other side of the paper, which was already covered in writing. A better system should probably be in place is all I'm saying. They did bring out my food shortly after I asked about it though, which was appreciated. It was nice, but I feel like the cream cheese could've used some salt, and the capers were surprisingly not that flavorful. The price overall was good, about $30 for everything, which included an espresso ice cream mix, and a cappuccino. We re-ordered a cappuccino and a different scoop of ice-cream, which put the total up to around $40. Overall, it was a nice experience, and will probably be back if ever in the area. I also appreciate how late it's open til, unlike other cafes, you can come here in the afternoon without feeling like you have to be in a hurry. read more

I've been a customer of this coffee shop on and off for 6 years as I've moved in and out of the area. My younger sister actually goes here regularly now too! Coming back to this coffee shop is always something I look forward to when home, and always lives up to expectations! The coffee is great, all the muffins and the whipped peanut butter topped brownies are amazing. The coffee itself is fantastic with lots of flavor options. The staff are amazing and always welcoming. I've noticed one of the owners on at least one or two occasions over the years taking steps to make sure his customers and staff feel safe. I've never had a bad experience with the staff or my coffee in the years that I've been coming here. Really really great and unique place. There's a good amount of seating that's usually available, but you do sometimes have to sit outside or take it to go when there's a rush. This is a very charming, a little eclectic cafe. I love the aesthetic where all the chairs are mismatched. They showcase local artists' photos which is a neat touch. I had the lavender ice coffee with a reusable straw. They sell metal straws and drinking out reusable straws is the way to go. They will wash and sanitize it for you before you use it. The coffee was good with strong flavor. There's plenty of seating to hang out and a few chairs outside too. I go to the college right next to here, and come in here everyday. I am allergic to tomatoes and get the same sandwich everytime, with of course the tomato's off. There is this one girl in there who makes my sandwich everytime. I'm not sure if it's a personal thing at this point, but to not pay attention to accommodations could kill someone. My friends and I decided to try this place out after getting our nails done. We all are new to the area and excited to explore new spots other than starbucks. I was disappointed by the customer service of the two people working that Saturday. Walking in they both seemed very cool, laughing, and making the place feel welcoming. Once I went up to order and one of them helped me it was almost like I was doing a disservice by being there. The fun attitude dropped immediately. I understand having bad days. I work in a customer service field too, but when I'm upset I can't be rude to my clients. The coffee wasn't even good enough to put up with the gamble of these two again. In our effort to start buying local coffee during this pandemic, we reached out to aLatte for some coffee beans. They were super nice over messenger and I appreciated all the options I had to choose from for the variety of coffee. I had never heard of them before, so I loved that they gave me descriptions and asked if we needed the coffee ground or not. We ended up getting 2 lbs total, 1 of the Columbian and 1 of the Costa Rican. I was able to pay online using Square and the next day, they delivered our coffee on our porch without us needing to open the door. I got a message shortly after letting me know that it had been delivered just to be sure. THE SMELL OF THIS COFFEE Y'ALL!!! I especially love the Columbian and immediately ground some up and brewed some for iced coffee the next day. It tastes just as good as it smells and I'm in love. Boyfriend really enjoys the Costa Rican blend and has been drinking it daily since we got it. We also really loved the note they left on the bag. I really hope to try their cold brew in the future and more of what they have to offer. read more

A super spacious coffee shop! This would be a great place to study or meet up with a friend for a cup of coffee. I was quite in a rush to grab coffee and make the drive back home. I wasn't sure to get so I kindly described what I was craving and the barista was able to make it for me. The coffee is strong and quite delicious. The price was affordable compared to most other coffee shops, almost a full dollar less, which was quite impressive. The customer service was fantastic. Finally tried this spot on Granby after passing it a bajillion times. I got a lovely lemonade that was tart and sweet, but not overly so. I was surprised at how the inside was so effortlessly cozy, and it made me think of the early 2000s Friends vibe with the couches and multiple places to hang out for hours. Lots of fun choices on the menu, so I definitely plan to come back and try out more!! My main complaint is their hours. They close at 5:30pm during the week, at 3pm on Saturdays, and they're closed on Sundays! For someone working a typical workweek, it means it's a lot of effort to come to aLatte Cafe. Part of the reason it has taken me so long to visit is because it was closed every time I passed it - I questioned whether it was ever open at first. I would love to come more often! read more

I missed writing a review for this shop when I first visited, but I'm glad I waited. I've made it my mission to find "my" coffee shop in Hampton Roads to work from and have a few local meeting spots with friends. I probably would have given aLatte a solid 4-star when I first began my search. But as the weeks have passed and I have continued my caffeinated quest, I have found aLatte to be my standard of comparison and the shop I most want to go back to again and again. I have an irrational dread for parking anywhere in downtown Norfolk so I usually plan my visits when I have other business in the Granby/McArthur area. If it wasn't for my hate for parking downtown I would probably visit here 2-3 times a week. I'll start with a bonus little perk of this location that you don't even have to be a customer to enjoy- they have one of the iconic mermaid statues in their storefront. Photo op time! :-) The vibe of this store is just so comfortable! I'm much happier on a couch or comfy plush chair vs a desk or table. For me, this is absolutely the perfect place for me to lose myself working away with an incredible latte. The do have a several different tables if the couch isn't your vibe. I have tried a few of their flavored lattes and have enjoyed each one, I think the "Honeybee Latte" (lavender + honey) has been my favorite so far. They offer several different sizes so you can customize your level of caffeine. They also offer teas and smoothies if coffee isn't your thing. This shop has my favorite vibe for cold or rainy days, if you know what I mean. You step inside and feel instant comfort, put the latte in your hand and get comfortable with a good book, your laptop to get some work done, or next to a friend catching up on life. read more
