She was very helpful and friendly with recommending her favs. I ordered a Caramel and Toasted marshmallow frappe (8/10) it was pretty good and a Breakfast sandwich (9/10) it had ham, egg, and cheese; the cheese was melty and the croissant was nice and flaky. As someone that loves coffee, I was excited for the Yelp Event at Coaster Coffee. The vibe is all about Community. When we were there, a group of young Moms were enjoying coffee as their Children enjoyed a play area just steps away from their Moms. The atmosphere was welcoming with pictures of the Old Ocean View Amusement park which was like a walk down memory lane for this Norfolk girl having spent many days at the park as a young child. A very pleasant employee greeted us as we arrived. I chose the S'mores latte which was absolutely phenomenal, as was the snickerdoodle cookie. The egg scramblers in the display case looked so good, we got those to take home with us. I will definitely be returning to this gem. When you first walk in, the place is very welcoming and calming! The inside is nice and comfortable, vibrant colors decorating the space, with a colorful piano in one of the hallways! The staff is very nice and sweet! I ended up getting a coffee, something simple. I got an Iced White Mocha, very refreshing and delicious! They had baked goods and lots of interesting specials. I think they have a kitchen and can make sandwiches etc as well. I got a delish almond milk latte with caramel and toffee, it was spot on! Started my morning off with a flat tire. Had to get that fixed so I passed by this cute out of the way coffeehouse. I was vibing on this place from the parking lot. The mural was amazing kudos to the artist. When I walked up I noticed this spot it pet friendly they had a water bowl out front and for those avid book worms they have a book exchange box out front. Upon entering I could tell it is the local coffee watering hole. For old and young alike. Very bohemian chill vibes. If you want good coffee, then look no further than tidewater drive across the street from the park. Their coffee is hot, fresh and just plain delicious! I am an absolute coffee bean, I can't help myself. And coffee shops where you can sit and actually enjoy your coffee are the best. It's nice and spacious inside despite the tiny parking lot. I was so happy to discover this great coffee spot so close to Norfolk base; about a mile from gate 4. I would come by some mornings, grab a coffee and a pastry or two and go to work. Location-wise, it's very convenient. There's a few parking spots to the left of the coffee shop in a small L-shaped lot. Ingress is right off Tidewater and egress is on Mayfield Ave. Inside is quite spacious with quite a few comfortable seats and tables. Frequently in the morning, I'll go in and see people sipping on their drinks and working on their laptops. Their coffee is really good. The half dozen or so times I've been there so far, very smooth coffee, almost never burnt. I've tried their Red Eye coffee and cold brew. Another one of my favorites is their Dirty Chai with oat milk which is very refreshing. However, one drink I didn't enjoy was their "frappe." I was expecting an authentic Greek frappe. On the contrary, when I saw the barista whip out the blender..I was like, guess they mislabeled that drink frappe and not frappuccino. And when I asked the barista if she knew what a Greek frappe was, she looked at me like I was an alien..lol *Shrugs* They have a decent selection of pastries too. I've tried their plain croissants, hazelnut croissant, macarons, various scramblers, and the grilled cheese with sun dried tomatoes. First off, their macarons are very good. Love the flavors they have available..but the macarons are not available every day. Their hazelnut croissants are another big hit for me! They're basically flaky, buttery pastries with nutella inside. Need I say more? lol And that grilled cheese with gouda and sun dried tomatoes was really good too. The addition of the sun dried tomatoes was delicious! But I will admit, I'm not a fan of the scramblers. At first glance, they look like quiches on steroids..but the few times I've tried them, they were very dry and lacked flavor. I think Coaster Coffee can be so much better. Their staff offers consistently good customer service. But consider expanding the drink menu, including both classics and exotics like affogato, nitro cold brew, Kyoto cold brew towers, and Vietnamese coffee made with condensed milk. Also, make sure your pastries and baked goods are available every morning. It doesn't look good for the business when you walk in at 7am and the pastry display is empty. All in all though, Coaster Coffee is a solid coffee spot in the area. It's nicely situated in a mostly residential area, but also relatively close to the highway and Naval Station Norfolk. Park your car in the lot and grab a quick drink and bite for your daily commute. read more

This is a great spot to grab a cup-a-joe. I had a chai latte and it was really tasty. Towards the end I found it to be a bit sweet for my liking but I still finished it! From the outside, this place looks inviting and safe; as well as inviting due to the painting on the walls. The parking lot is small, so, be careful with your car when driving. The entire pastry selection looked delicious and it was hard to choose a snack to enjoy while drinking my White Mocha. I ordered the bacon and cheddar scrambler and a cookie. Both look and tasted amazing. The bacon and cheddar scrambler was also very filling! The white mocha was steamed to the perfect temperature and tasted great! They didn't overpower the milk with the flavoring, which I appreciated a lot. Lastly, the barista brought over my food and drink to me. I love little touches like this at locally-owned stores! Coaster Coffee is becoming a regular visit for me and my coffee binging habits!! LOL Still really great coffee and found my go-to drink to be a Dirty Chai Latte! My all time favorite is at Cure Coffee House but this place comes as a runner up. The Dirty Chai Latte has a cinnamon and chocolatey flavor that make this drink unique compared to other coffee shops. I love pairing this with the oat milk for a non dairy option. Right now they are having a deal where you buy a mug for $5 and get a drink for free. This was a cute shop. The staff were down-to-earth and helpful. I asked for a drink recommendation of something unique, and the barista pulled out an older menu of creative combinations for me to look at. Many of those syrups were missing, but I appreciated the effort nonetheless. I opted for an iced butterscotch cinnamon latte- it was good, but nothing too memorable. I didn't get a strong taste of the espresso. The interior is spacious and I really liked the booths they have on the right when you walk in, although they were occupied on my visit. The couches were torn up, but there were handy little desks that were easy to move in front of you while you were sitting at them. There was a lot of bright light pouring in while I was there, which made it a little hard to see my laptop screen but did make the space feel warm and comfortable either way. If I lived in the area, I'm sure I would go back fairly often-even if for no other reason than their lovely nonprofit, community-centered mission. Support local and check this place out! read more

I write this review from my bar height window seat inside of Coaster Coffee. The inside of this shop is very nice. There's plenty of table seating, booth seating, bar height window seating, and a couch. The setup is spacious and roomy, but still quaint and small business-like. They offer bags of coffee beans, t shirts for this shop & other local businesses, gift baskets, and more. They also offer a free drink if you purchase one of their reusable cups, which is awesome. I attached two pictures of their three different menus: non-coffee, coffee, and food, and also included a picture of their pastries for sale at the counter. The menu isn't huge, but it's exactly what you want/expect from a small business coffee shop. They have breakfast sandwiches, burritos, and salads. They have your standard coffee (hot coffee, cold brew, lattes, macchiatos, americanos, etc) and non-coffee (chai latte, green tea latte, hot chocolate, tea, etc) drinks available, all of which are reasonably priced. I opted for a 16oz hot caramel latte and a piece of banana bread, warmed up of course. The banana bread was as fantastic as it looked (pictured here). It was warm, flavorful, not too dry and not overly moist. I enjoyed every last bite of it. The caramel latte was very flavorful. It wasn't too thick like I've noticed at other places. The caramel flavor really stood out to me but wasn't overbearing or sweet, which I've also noticed at other shops. I typically opt for an extra shot of espresso (or two) in my flavored lattes because I typically find them to be too sweet without it, but this one was good on its own. The staff was very friendly, even when I asked for a piece of "lemon bread," which wasn't even an option - I was just mind-boggled at how good the pastries looked. There were two people working the counter, one taking orders and grabbing pastries when ordered, the other focused on making drinks. I think 2 or 3 people ordered in front of me, and it only took me a minute or two to get my pastry, and another minute or so to get my drink. I'm impressed. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're looking for somewhere to sit, enjoy the space, and maybe get some work done on your laptop or read a book. Still 10/10 recommend if you're just swinging by looking to grab a coffee and go on about your day! read more

I came in with a group of 15 for a meeting in the bank room. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, so I ordered a chai tea latte. I didn't exactly get the best customer service, I didn't get a smile or a hello or anything like that, all I got was a "What can I get you?" A little more friendly engagement would be nice, and I appreciate it even more at a coffee shop because it should have that sort of communal vibe to it. Absolutely adorable little coffee shop in Norfolk -- great location with plenty of parking (at least when I went). Lots of natural light inside, and beautiful colors/decor. I ordered a tea and ponied up to a table to utilize the free wifi and get some work done. It's got a couple different sections -- a back room that looks like it can be used for private parties/gatherings, a kid-friendly area, a section with bar style seating, some cozy smaller tables/nooks that you can hang out at. Outside there is some picnic table style seating with an awesome mural, a little free take-one-leave-one library, and a painted rock collection. So many creative additions! I come here on and off since they opened in 2017. I came here last week and now today, and I'd have to say that the customer service NOW compared to when they first opened has gone down the drain. My first impression walking in this morning wasn't great. I walked up to the register, and the woman in the hat just looked at me and rather than her greeting me first, I said "hi, how are you?" followed with a reply of nothing. I then order my breakfast, and pay. No smile, no "it'll be right out", not even "have a good day". After the food comes out, i ordered it To-Go because I might want to save some later. I did want to eat some of it here though, so I asked for a couple forks for my sister and I from a woman with a long ponytail. After I said "thank you", I received a "mhm" for a reply. As I sit here trying to eat my food and write this review, there's a lot of heavy banging of the steaming pitcher and there was slamming of the door into the kitchen. Maybe these women are having bad morning, or maybe they feel rushed because there are quite a few ppl here but I don't think it's good to take it out on the customers. **Tea Drinker Review** My friend suggested trying Coaster Coffee yesterday and I am so glad she did! The location (next to McDonalds and across from Northside Park) has ample parking and a fun colorful storefront. Inside there are cozy couches, tables, and bench seat w tables depending on what type of socializing you are doing (work / social). The tea selection has many delicious choices. I tried the Thai Chai. Mention when ordering if you want milk or sugar. (I failed to do this but they were very kind about it). Food selection was smaller but had 2 of 5 options that were vegan (vegan oatmeal bake and cranberry / orange mini-loaves). One free refill per visit for tea and coffee.
