Delightful local establishment with great coffee. The coffee was smooth and the perfect temperature for immediate consumption. I ordered a 12 oz. small coffee and knew after the first sip I should have got the biggest one they had! The artwork around the walls is also amazing from the murals outside to the framed artwork inside. They have several large tables, bistro sets and a comfortable couch to relax on. Coffee is one of my BFF's which makes this place my seat at a table in my friend's house. It's one of the few non-chain local coffee shops in the Northside area of Norfolk. Coaster boasts a cool space in a country contemporary up-cycle vibe with lots of seating, tables, free WiFi and multipurpose corner for activities (kids playing, bands, etc). Perhaps even cooler is that it's an outreach of OV Church in Norfolk with 100% of the proceeds being reinvested in helping people locally and globally. They sell all sorts of beverages, baked goods, and merch to aid in that causeI thought I heard, in their early days, the baked goods were provided by congregants??). Their community roots go back to the 1950's when ocean view gathered people around the "rocket" roller coaster, thus the name; now friends/family/coworkers/colleagues/neighbors can gather in a safe, homey space. They even offer a private meeting room with HDTV and whiteboard that can be reserved for special occasions ($25/hr). A small private lot and street parking are available. When the weather's warm, you can hangout in front BUT be mindful if you have kids in tote because Tidewater Drive is a busy 40mph street. On approach, as a nerdy book guy, I smiled seeing the outdoor book share station; see 1, take it - done with 1, leave it. Perfect for folks looking to pass time sipping their choice bev. My bev on a Monday at 630p? Black coffee, in a mug, with their Malawi house roast; I prefer light-medium roasts but this dark was drinkable. Wifey got a caramel macchiato which she said was different from staple Starbucks drink BUT not terrible. Both drinks totaled a reasonable $7. The treats in the cases (carbs) looked tempting and were pretty inexpensive compared to other shops we frequent. We'll definitely be back to try other java varieties, especially if I ever have time to kill before/after a softball game at Northside Park. read more

Love this place! My friend got a cinnamon-hazelnut latte, so good! Not in the menu but I highly recommend it. I had the Turkey pesto, needed one more minute warming in the oven, but it's already cooked so still good. I'm a fan of the chai latte & add pumpkin in season. read more

I can't say enough about the lovely atmosphere, the excellent coffee and the EXQUISITE customer service. While every barista is amazing, sweet and efficient, let's take a moment for Stephanie. Sure I'm a regular who leaves her debit card at home around the corner every other visit, but Stephanie is just the epitome of "on point" and deserves every accolade imaginable. She knows exactly what I want, but she still asks to make sure it's what I want on that particular day. It's like she can do a million things at once with a grin and sparkling wit. We had a friend meet up here and took our kids and it was really clean and nice. They had bored games for kids / adults and they even had a play kitchen my daughter and her friends played with. Super friendly environment. The coffee was pretty good and we were serviced pretty past fast. The workers were very nice. Would definitely go again and make it a go to spot. read more

We wanted to try something new this afternoon and Coaster Coffee did not disappoint! I grabbed an iced coffee w/ cream and sugar and it was delicious, husband enjoyed his iced green latte, and my 5 yr old loved the mango smoothie I brought home. As for food I got a little of everything! Sandwiches, ham cyclone, egg scramblers, and chocolate croissant were great! Staff were welcoming, helpful, and made sure that drinks were to my liking. 6 months ago I was working out of this coffee shop. First they were really rude me in general whenever I ordered anything. For example, they called my name and I didn't hear it, and the person calling my name looks at me and says "I called your name several times!" But the most important part is that I had a late might work there where I left their coffee shop at 8 and sat in my car for a second to take a work call (they closed at 8). As I am on the call, two police cars show up and they say they got a complaint about "how I wasn't letting them leave." As I was in my car!!! I am an immigrant woman and thankfully the police officers were nice to me. But this place needs to learn to not call the cops whenever something slightly "inconvenient" happens! I am never going to this place again and I wouldn't recommend it to you either. read more

I'm not usually a coffee drinker but this one wasnt only drinkable but actually pretty good. I'm vegan and I just got an iced coffee with almond milk and sugar. It was perfectly sweetened, but if you like your coffee without an after taste maybe get more sugar. As for food, they had a baked oatmeal option. read more

I have really enjoyed spending some remote work mornings at this coffeeshop; however, the ambiance did a 180 this week. There was a woman present (who I assume to be the owner/manager) and I was disappointed to watch her loudly bark orders at the staff in a completely demeaning manner. I left saddened to see this side of things and it was disruptive to what would have otherwise been a productive work session. I got a large iced caramel macchiato which was only around $5, and my fiance got a large iced mocha Americano for right around $4 or $5. Great little spot in the Oceanview neighborhood! Good study atmosphere if you're lucky enough to get one of the three little study nooks with chargers built in. The coffee is good and they have Italian soda options which are different. Little sandwiches are panini style and reasonably priced. The baristas are very friendly as well. They have a large back room for group gatherings or meetings that has a black board and long table. Long bar style seating up in the front with stools if you want to look out across the street at the skaters in the skatepark. Lovely discovery! read more

The first time I visited Coaster Coffee was when I first moved here back in 2017. I don't remember if they ever had a meeting room in the back (I only noticed today when I had my meeting there), but I definitely liked the sections where students could plug in and get to work! It makes me wish I lived in Norfolk again so I could make that my study space. The food and drinks are still amazing, and I'm glad they were able to accommodate our group. I decided to give this place a try and didn't like it at first. I went on a Saturday and ordered a 20oz Caramel Pecan Latte to-go. Once I got home, I realized that the cup was almost half empty as there was way too much foam than necessary. Lattes don't come with that much foam. I believe that the barista working that day was either new or not experienced because of the foam mistake and also based on her inability to answer when I asked her what type of roast they used for their espresso drinks. Regardless, I went in second time during the week to give it another shot. This time I was very happy with how my latte was made. It was perfect. As someone who was a barista for over 2 years, I can tell you these young ladies are fabulous at their jobs. They are down to earth and knowledgeable. I ordered a large hot white mocha and it came out PERFECT. The espresso shots were not burnt, the milk was not burnt, it was phenomenal. I can't tell you how many coffee shops I've been to that don't know about those things. The interior was super cute. I ended up bringing my laptop so I could work on some assignments. 10/10 will be returning! read more
