Stopped by Tea Lux Cafe for a lil boba break and boyyy... this place is a must-sip spot. I ordered the Oat Brown Sugar Fresh Milk with boba and physically said "mmm" out loud like I was in a food commercial. Easily one of the best brown sugar flavors I've ever had. Rich. Creamy. Life-changing. Because I make reckless (and delicious) decisions, I also tried the New Blueberry Matcha Latte -- kinda like if blueberry pie and matcha had a sweet little baby. A bit sweet for me, maybe because I didn't give it a full mix... or maybe because I needed to add boba. Either way, still vibed with it. Grabbed some food to-go but peeped the vibe inside -- super cute, perfect for laptop warriors and remote work fam. Ordering at the kiosk was easy, and staff were super helpful if you had questions or just looked confused (me, always). Food-wise I picked from staff's favorites: Spicy Bulgogi Banh Mi (with egg) -- Solid crunch. Flavor was decent, but could've used more bulgogi. Will definitely go extra spicy next time. Fried Buttered Corn -- crunchy, buttery, and served with sausage. It had a lot going on flavor-wise. Fun to try, but next time I'd probably go for the popcorn chicken instead. Very quiet and relaxing atmosphere. I read a little and had a rice paper roll before heading out. The roasted rice milk tea was delicious as was the rice paper roll and combo bahn mi. It was made fairly quick but I'd have been okay with waiting longer because everything was so good. First walking in, it was heavily decorated with suede-like chairs (maybe initially a good idea but now covered in stains). There was a game table in the middle for people to play board games. I was looking for an authentic Vietnamese place with some good street food but this was not it. First, all of the food was pretty expensive, especially with the banh mi being so small. Second, it took a really long time for them to make the food. Bánh mì đặc biệt 3/10 The bread was a regular baguette and was not made of the typical banh mi bread. There was no flavor and was quite bland. The sandwich was also extremely small and over priced at almost $8 Bot chiến 7/10 This was pretty good and had all of the components one would expect. The only downside was there wasn't much papaya and it was expensive at $10 Boba 7/10 This was a little too sweet and a bit over priced at $7 for a large Overall, the place did not deliver and was very Americanized. This place has got to be one of my favorite Banh Mi sandwiches. Plus they are reasonably priced. Along with their drinks. What makes the sandwich speacial is that they make there own "pate" that they spread inside the sandwich. Also they toast the nice french crunchy bread plus they can adjust the level of heat in your sandwich. I ordered the Bulgogi sandwich which is my favorite! I've been a Tealux customer since their opening weekend and always make it a point to stop by if a friend asks to meet up there or if I'm in the area. I've enjoyed all the drinks I've tried, but their boba has always been a bit too sweet for me (and I like sweet). Sometimes it comes to the point where it feels like the brown sugar flavor from the boba slightly overpowers the flavor from the tea. Either way, I really enjoy their drinks, and since they do have a variety of toppings, I might start opting out for a jelly topping next time for a more balanced sweetness. We have been to the Ghent location many times and always enjoyed their selections. So after leaving Always Latte from the Yelp Experience event close by, this stop had to end the Norfolk trip on a high note. Or did it? We were greeted by the staff upon walking in and there were a few people seated. They were quite busy with orders, which is a great thing. And like before, the vibe was welcoming. They have two locations around Norfolk, and according to their website, they will be opening another one in Virginia Beach. When you walk in you do have an option to either order on the kiosk or from someone behind the counter! I watched them carefully make our drinks! My sister had the oat brown sugar boba drink. She rated it a 8.7/10! She said it had a nutty taste, which she enjoyed! The tapioca balls were nice too! I had the Luna with was a jasmine tea with lychee! It was delicious! Went here with my sister for fruit tea and milk tea. This was my first time visiting. The cafe was very cute and you can take a lot of cute pictures there with how they're set up and the decor. The cashier was very nice and helpful when I asked what I should order since it was my first time trying them. I ordered the Heart on Fire fruit tea (9/10) and my sister ordered the Brown Sugar Fresh Milk tea (9/10) both were delicious and flavorful. Spotless, with plush chairs that would not look out of place with the addition of large googly eyes. Staff is very helpful and pleasant. First timers should try the macarons, which are packaged in appropriately adorable cellophane bags so cute you'll be tempted to keep them when when the cookies are gone. I recommend the lemon which cuts the super-sweetness of the bubble teas. This location also has a selection of boxed games to play while you wait. HOWEVER, be prepared for prices that seem quite high for what is essentially tea and cookies. I paid over $16 for a small cold tea and 5 macarons roughly the size of an Oreo. I've visited the Tidewater Tealux numerous times since summer 2021. Since it's my go-to tea spot, it's only fair I leave a review. My initial visit to Tealux was in lieu of a Yelp Elite Experience. I believe it was one of Yoonie's first events after taking over as CM, but regardless I enjoyed my experience enough to come back again and again. It helps they're located nearby (less than a 5-minute drive) - most of the tea spots I've visited in the past are too far (I used to frequent Jellyball off VB Blvd when I worked near Town Center). At the least, they were far enough to keep me from visiting regularly. Every time I come in to Tealux I've received consistently good service. I don't have to wait long to order and I can order directly with an employee or at a kiosk. Usually I interact with an employee - each person I've come across has been friendly and fast. I normally stick with fruit teas and slushes. It's rare I go with a milk tea, and I've ordered banh mi maybe twice since 2021. Their banh mis are fine, but not outstanding. They fit the bill, though, when you're hungry. Their teas are their strength and I believe their fruit teas are amazing. The milk teas I've had are outstanding, too, I just prefer the former. Either way, you cannot go wrong. Finally, this Tealux location is typically clean and well-kept. I like the numerous board games they have - Tealux encourages social interaction. I'm not sure why I never reviewed this place sooner. I was here for the grand opening when I first moved to Norfolk. They were great then, and they've only gotten better. I love the milk tea, and it is always a good serotonin boost. I like that they have a tablet for you to order on. I get anxious ordering, and I get visuals for the types of tea. It's especially perfect for my autistic son who can just point to a picture. Everything comes out quick, and if it doesn't, the insides isn't a bad place to wait. There are games for you to play, and can be fun especially if you're in a group. It's a fun place to get boba tea. I tried the brown sugar fresh milk and the strawberry milk tea. This has been our favorite tea shop but they are more than that they are more like a cafe because of the awesome food too. Islander Jasmine tea is passion fruit mango & pineapple. It is so good I took one sip and my niece grabbed it and drank all of it. This is our favorite. -Marigold tea is really good. It is mango & ginger. This is fruity with a hint of fresh floral. To me it was like drinking sunshine. Great! *Meadow tea is black tea with peach & lemongrass. After drinking this it is hard deciding which drink is my favorite. I love the light freshness of the lemongrass. *Black tea brown sugar milk tea. This drink is perfection. My nieces other favorite. I have had all the different Banh Mi sandwich's. I like them all but my favorite is the red pork and the grilled beef. I like the freshness of everything and I like that kind of bread that they come on too. Delicious!!! I came here after school because I was really craving a milk tea. I was hungry too, so I went for the red roasted pork sandwich. The sandwich was good, but last time I came they cut it for me but they didn't this time. I'll have to remember to ask next time. I love the freshness of the sandwich, too. The crunch of the vegetables and the bite of cilantro is perfection together. I really love it. The milk tea is delicious as well. I can only drink the small bobas because too much boba doesn't set well with my stomach (it's me, I promise). But I drank most of it before I got my sandwich and I couldn't stop. It's SO GOOD. Stopped in to let the kids try out Boba tea. I am not a conosoir of boba tea so please excuse my lack of knowledge on this one. We tried a fruity based jasmine tea that had some boba tasting pieces but they were not round like what I've had before. The pieces had a fruity sweet flavor. I really enjoyed it. I had an opportunity to go on their grand opening and as busy and packed they were, they kept the flow going pretty well. The staff were friendly and I was waiting, one of the ladies that were straightening up ask for ticket number to check on it. She even came back and said we were up next. The space is cute with plenty of seating and natural lights. There's games on the table for you to stay a while. There's QR code's so you can pull up the menu on your phone. I was bummed they didn't start serving bahn mi sandwiches yet, so I have to come back for that. So on this visit I had the Brown sugar boba milk tea. When I got my tea, I thought it was going to be sweet and I forgot to ask if they adjust the sugar level but surprisingly it was perfect! Not too sweet at all. BUT then I realize oh oh ...this is not diary free either!! I'm lactose intolerant so I had to take a few more sips and be done with it. So this is where I feel they didn't give enough info on. Sorry, Tealux - really wanted to love you, especially because your little logo is THE cutest - however, paying for all that ice, I'd rather to go to the nearest drive-in for the crushed version. The menu offers both fruit and milk tea, various toppings, and even Vietnamese snacks and eats. Because I'm a sucker for anything kawaii and any type of marketing gimmick, I had to have one of their glass bottles (comes in four different-colored caps) with the cute logo - you can shell out $4, or you could receive one for free if you buy a minimum of 5 drinks. I went for the latter, as tasting a variety at a place is a habit! I ordered: +the Islander - this was a mix of jasmine tea with passion fruit, mango, and pineapple - typical mango-heavy tropical-like drink that was a bit too syrup-y +the Scarlet - a mix of jasmine tea and strawberry - was a favorite of the five - it was pretty refreshing and reminded me of a drink I usually get back in DC +the Canary - a mix of jasmine tea and pineapple - was a bit too syrup-y in taste +the Violet - a mix of jasmine tea and grape - tasted like grape juice - grape lovers would enjoy this! +the Signature Milk Tea - black milk tea with tapioca pearls - wasn't a fan - the tea seemed to have over-steeped and it was bitter; this was tossed There seems to be a very strict rule on not being able to customize your drinks - it's only whether you want the toppings or not. We all know the oldest not-so-nice trick in the book of drink places filling 75% of your drink cup with ice, which results in your drink being done after two or three big sips. Well, Tealux does just that. Yes, the $6 or so you're shelling out is for the ice - take note! For those who are interested in purchasing the glass bottle - double-check yours. I had to swap mine out two times due to one having a dirty cap, and the other not having the logo printed correctly on the glass. Limited tables and seats are available inside, and, be sure to watch out for those low-riding wooden booths - you might pop a kneecap! Also, it felt as if their AC was not working, at all - being 95+ degrees outside on the day we went, it's like, why not be on top of this? It was uncomfortably hot and stuffy, and for those who wanted to dine-in, you just felt awful. There were also some board games available, which I thought was a nice touch - however, the temperature inside was uncomfortable, so I don't think anyone would have been interested in staying longer than they had to. The staff members were friendly - it was just uncool that they were super bound to the strict rules of how the drinks were prepared with the overwhelming amount of ice. I'm glad I was able to check this place out, but not sure I'd return - unless the price is fair and actually matches the pint of liquid that is being served, or if Tealux decides to implement an ice preference option for their patrons. The staff here is very friendly and everyone without masks is wearing a smile, those with masks are smiling with their eyes. Seems like they're happy to be in business and enjoy what they do. I have been here already been here 4 times since they've been opened and twice in one week. Boba options are perfect, the menu isn't overwhelming, and has just the perfect amount to choose from. I particularly love the "Poppy" and all the fruit swirling in the bottom. My children enjoy it too. (I was in the vicinity a few months back and was excited to see the store but to our dismay it wasn't open yet.) I originally thought they were doing training and just proceeded to roll on by. Luckily two young ladies outside greeted me inviting me to try some sample drinks. *I was so excited! I chose grape flavor with blueberry boba. It was refreshing and delicious! The blueberry boba pearls had a yummy sweet burst of blueberry that exploded in my mouth with each bite. Think of the pleasure of popping plastic bubble wrap but instead when you pop the bubble a fantastic satisfying gush of blueberry flows out! That and the bubble is edible ;-) The novelty & unique tea flavors along with the organic, futuristic IKEA vibe ( there's an oxy moron in this comment) once all the decor is complete is sure to bring me back for more. Y'all already know that I am a boba fiend! So I had to try this place out for myself! Decor/ambiance/seating: There is plenty of seating for small groups and friends! They have several tables in a small seating area with some board games and Jenga if you plan to stay and socialize. Currently, they comply with the CDC guidelines that vaccinated people do not need to wear masks so mask-up if you are still unvaccinated or want to protect vulnerable people in your household! Tea: This place wins in my book! All of their tea is freshly brewed daily and the man at the register let me know that their ingredients are imported from Taiwan (the birthplace of boba tea). You can taste that they do not use powered tea and that their boba is fresh! It was so chewy and soft, no hard spots nor were they overly cooked! We tried their signature milk tea which has a slightly chocolate taste to me but I loved it anyways. I also tried their Jasmine lychee tea which automatically comes in a large side, served with a slice of orange. Super refreshing but the Jasmine tea taste is strong! I've been coming to this location for a while. I was here when they were actually building it and when they opened I was there the opening day and I think about 2 weeks straight I was there. Service is polite and very attentive! Workers are accommodating and always ready to answer any questions. The atmosphere is chill, not too quiet but not too loud. I would say you could study inside lol. During the day it might not seem much but once the sun sets, the interior is vibrant and truly reminds me of LA. As for the food, it is phenomenal! Drinks are made right after you order. Food is cooked once ordered. I'm happy everything they make is made fresh and never microwaved. I always buy their bulgogi banh mi with a drink of thai tea. Vegetables in the banh mi are fresh, the meat is cooked perfectly, and the bread is crisp and delicious. The thai tea is served with a perfect amount of ice so if the ice were to melt, it does not hinder the taste and make it watery. This place makes me feel at home back over in LA.
