Perfect with some fresh lettuce and herbs and dipped in nuoc cham! Not to be outdone, the pho broth here is one of my favorites in the area! Lots of depth and rich in flavor. Service this time is a 2. The place only had 1 customer when I got there. I got this weird look (not happy to see a customer) from the owner who was seated. He asked if dine in or take out. I said find in and waiting for another. When my friend arrived he didn't even say hello to her, just waited until we motioned we were ready to order. We were never asked if everything was okay; the owner just sat there playing games on his phone. The other customer needed something, called out to him but he wasn't paying attention! Perfect place to come grab some soup to warm you up on a cold rainy day. They are quiet small so be aware the space filles up fast. The staff is always nice and helpful when trying to pick the right thing. My husband and I stopped in and he got the PHO THAI NAM(round beef and flank soup) and a small roll appetizer and I got a small PHO GA (white meat chicken soup). The broth was the same in both soups and it was nice and strong in flavor and definitely warmed me up. The meat in both was tender and easy to split with the chopsticks. I really enjoy going to Saigon One Pho (SOP). Tucked away on Pleasant Valley Rd, in the same shopping strip as Food Lion, I love the coziness of SOP. There is very limited seating, but I have visited a few times now, and I just seem to come during the less busy times, so it's never felt crowded. - Parking - Center lot. - Noms - Things I have tried: * Banh xeo tom thit - this is a crepe made of eggs and rice flour. Comes out super crispy, filled with steamed bean sprouts, shrimp and pork slice, served with a bunch of fresh veg and herbs. Don't forget the dipping sauce! YUM! *Spring rolls - these are the non-cooked rice paper rolls. They always roll them to order and are always fresh and tight. The paper is always moist and never partially dried! Love the dipping sauce that comes with it. *Shrimp toast - I would have liked a more equal shrimp to toast ratio, but it was very crispy, airy and chewy all at the same time. The "toast" is made of the baguette they must use for the banh mis. It comes with the fish sauce-based dipping sauce. Better to share as having 2 whole pieces is quite filling because of the thick slices of baguette. *Pho - I've had the tai nam and my kids get the pho no meat. The broth is super tasty and "clean" if that makes sense. IYKYK. Always plenty of meat in the meat phos. One thing I've noticed at SOP is that for the side plate of veggies to put in your soup, they blanch the bean sprouts. Just an observation. I guess, they're trying to speed up the cooking process in the hot soup, or maybe people complained about the "freshness" of the bean sprouts. *Bun bo hue - this is the pho's spicy version, normally served with the fat and round rice noodle, but I always opted for the pho rice noodles, because I prefer the pho noodles. *Vietnamese iced coffee - always great and a must at any Vietnamese spot. Note to self for future: - try the bo cuon la nho (beef in grape leaves) and the cha gio chuoi (banana spring rolls with ice cream). Service is always kind and friendly. Saigon One Pho is a friendly, family owned restaurant that takes great care using fresh ingredients with great home cooking. We especially loved the appetizer of seasoned beef wrapped in grape leaves. The beef was tender and richly marinated and the grape leaves added an unusual, pungent flavor. The soft wrapped spring rolls were filled with fresh shrimp and pork. The accompanying peanut sauces were the best we've ever had. On the main courses, the lemongrass chicken was savory, tender, and unusually well seasoned. The large seafood pho (82) was distinguished by very fresh ingredients. Most pho restaurants do not take that much care. They have one dessert: Banana crispy roll with strawberry ice cream which was light and delicious and not overly sweet. The servings were generous, the service friendly and attentive - not rushed, - which made for a wonderful experience. And the prices were very reasonable. read more

Pretty stand-up local spot with amazing pho. We stopped by to get some pho, and we were not disappointed. From the start, I figured this would be a great place because most of the tables were packed, and there was a constant stream of people coming in to pick up their take-out orders. I had the standard beef pho with a chicken and shrimp egg crepe. Both were delicious!! The service was pretty good. Even though the order was slightly messed up, the restaurant took care of it with the quickness. My friends and I wanted a spot on this cold, chilly evening for some good food that would warm our souls. Haha jk - we were craving some pho and our friends suggested going to Saigon One. It my was my husband and I's first time and we saw they had Bánh xèo on the menu. It's a dish I have been dying to try for so long - after seeing all these youtube mukbang shows talking about the dish and us trying a fusion version on our trip to hawaii, we were super excited to try the real deal! And we were in for a treat! The Bánh xèo was so crispy, greasy, and delicious. A little messy to eat (since it's kinda like a lettuce wrap and you dip it in fish sauce) but it was SOOO good! I wish we got two to be honest... lol. The rest of the table ordered Pho but I decided to try their rice dish with lemongrass chicken. OMG the flavor was incredible. The pho and broth were super good, but my lemongrass chicken was finger lickin good. The slight char on the chicken, the lightness of the fish sauce and side of veggies. Even though I was filling pretty full since it's a good portion of food, I wanted to keep eating because it was THAT good. 10/10 would recommend it! read more

Saigon One Pho hit the spot for some authentic-tasting dishes that were delicious!! Saigon One is a small family-owned restaurant that has a wide selection of Vietnamese dishes. What makes this place unique is finding uncommon dishes that remind you of home, like Bahn Xeo that you will not see at most restaurants. The Pho was delicious!! The broth is on the sweeter side and they do not cut corners to make the broth or rinse the noodles before adding the broth. The price point for the portion size you receive is fair compared to the chain of Pho 79s that have dominated the Hampton Roads area. You cannot beat a large bowl of Pho for $14 that is delightful!! Not only is the Pho a winner...the Bun Bo Hue is out of this world! Before Saigon One Pho, I had to drive up to Nova Eden Center to satisfy my cravings. The Pho 79s don't offer Bun Bo Hue and ever since I ordered from another restaurant called Saigon #1 of Newtown that was inedible, I was hesitant to keep searching. So glad I ordered the Bun Bo Hue because it's everything that I was looking for. The broth is spicy, sweet, and flavorful. The Vietnamese ham was in the broth and plenty of beef-to-noodle ratios. I am also glad they provided shredded cabbage on the side because this makes a difference!! The food was so good that I even ordered a Bahn Mi to go so I can try another dish on the menu. The restaurant just had one server and it looked like the restaurant owner's son. He was nice and attentive to all our questions and requests. After some time shopping I wanted to take my significant other to a spot I had in mind originally, but sadly it was going to close soon due to the new times because of Covid. Upon receiving this news I took a shot in the dark and went to try Saigon #1 (a brand new restaurant I haven't heard of or tried which was a 15 minute drive away and an extra 35 minute drive back home.) Once we stepped through the door we felt a rush of excitement as it felt homie and we received a warm WELCOMING from the only two workers who appeared to be the owners of the restaurant. For an appetizer we stuck with the egg rolls which came out crunchy and fresh from the fry (highly recommend) and for variety we ordered 2 pho (#s 80 and 82) and 2 banh mi (#19) sandwiches. As two fans of Pho and Vietnamese Cuisine we both agreed that Saigon #1 is exactly as the name says which is #1. As we took our first bites from our Pho BOOM! It happened with haste! It was an immediate and MARVELOUS slap to the tastebuds with a burst of flavor and awe. Words really can't explain how good it was all we knew is that we just kept talking about how amazing the food and service was while we were stuffing our faces. From the Egg rolls to the Pho to the Banh mi, everything was consistent and that consistency being it was made with superior QUALITY, FLAVOR, and TASTE. Hopefully the owners read this and wear a well deserved smile! Honestly I would have given this place a higher rating but the guy kept forgetting our order , forgetting my water , and did not wear a mask most of the time we were there. I understand it's a small place but cleanliness and safety is key. I also didn't appreciate my appetizer came after my main entree. Finally a Pho place worthy of visiting twice in a few weeks time span. We recently came here due to a VA Pilot article that came out awhile back declaring that this place had the best Pho in Hampton Roads. Do I agree with their review? Possibly! To preface the rest of this review, I am Vietnamese and I grew up in SoCal so I know good pho and what it should taste like (not to sound elitist, I just know good pho when I see it). This place is quite small and has about 7 tables so it can feel cramped, quick. I've only see four people working here and it appears to be a mom and pop shop with their two sons working FOH operations. We've tried their Goi Cuon (Spring rolls with shrimp and pork) and Goi Tom Thit (shrimp and pork salad) both have been tasty and would get them again. Classic appetizer dishes when visiting a Pho place. I've gotten #80 AKA Pho Dac Biet twice now and I can honestly say it's the best Pho i've had in the area. Broth is light, doesn't seem overly salty or pumped full of MSG. Comes with plenty of protein and your usual fixings. One of the key differences here is that their hoison sauce is EXACTLY the way it should be: concentrated and THICK. Most places just use store bought bottles but what they have is what I am accustomed to. The service is slow and food can take awhile before it comes out. Looking forward to my next visit! read more

Honestly, I wish there was more "Chinese No. 1" style Vietnamese restaurants like Saigon 1 in this area. As long as the Vietnamese food and flavor is good, I don't need all the dazzle of a full-sized Vietnamese restaurant like some in the area. Just good and cheaper Vietnamese cuisine. This place checks that box. I knew about this place for awhile but never was able to try it out until today. We were craving a vermicelli noodle with beef dish and a banh mi and this place popped to mind. I called the order in and it did not take long at all. It has a hole in the wall feel and the inside is not that big. I picked up my order quick and painlessly. The marinated lemongrass beef was not I expected as it was shaped ground beef instead of steak pieces. BUT the beef was super flavorful and the noodles and veggies were very fresh! The price is cheaper for beef vermicelli compared to other restaurants but the taste was not lacking. The beef banh mi had the same beef and it was alright. I just wish it had more sauce but it was not bad. The prices here are pretty good for the flavor and I will come back and try the pho soon. Solid experience! read more

The small bowls are enough to fill me up. There's a plate of basil, lime, jalapeños and bean sprouts that comes out to add to your pho.
