I got the pho #9 steak and brisket Togo. It was delicious the broth was flavorful without the sauces but they add a great kick! The meat was extremely tender and not chewy at all. The restaurant was also extremely clean inside and the staff was amazing. The hostess helped me with my order and it came out in less than 5 minutes. read more

Pho 78 it's a really great restaurant and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting or to locals who want to have a delicious lunch or dinner. The pho here has a rich deep flavorful clear broth. We got beef or rare steak. The shrimp vermicelli noodles or bún here comes in a large portion with ample basil and vegetables. What's missing was the pickled carrots and daikon but otherwise, all the food and fresh spring rolls were excellent. The space is open and feels like press family run in the best possible way. Customer service was fast, thoughtful, and very welcoming! Their Thai iced tea was delicious and I'm definitely coming back to try more of their menu and their desserts. Price is medium expensive but this area of Virginia Beach is expensive in terms of Vietnamese food compared to other cities. I would've loved more hoisin and sambal plus pickled vegetables/Đồ Chua included given the higher price point. Great for lunch and dinner for with friends and family. read more

It's kind of weird that I've never posted a review for Pho 78. For the longest time, this was the only pho spot I went to. When I worked in Chesapeake, there was a time when I ate at Pho 79, and then I used to always hit up Pho Dalat in Greenbrier. But Pho 78 was my introduction to pho, and I still stop in on occasion to this day. I dined at Pho 78 heavily when I used to work nearby off of Baxter Rd. Pho 78 was close and they were fast. In fact they are still fast - I stopped in a few weeks ago and was in and out within 45 minutes. Pho 78 still has the same FOH manager, who always dresses impeccably and has the personality to boot. Whenever I come in, I'm seated immediately and usually they're ready to take your order right then and there. I have a go-to meal ready (water or Coke; fresh spring rolls; & 32. Bun Tom Thit Nuong: vermicelli with grilled shrimp & pork), so sometimes I've already ordered before I've sat down. Other times, I like to try something else, so I'll take a minute to look over the menu. But both food and drink are usually out quickly, so dining here is perfect when you're in a rush. Their facility is clean and tidy, whereas seating can sometimes be cafeteria style (if you're not sat at any of the 4-tops against the wall). Also, there are two flatscreens on, one usually playing local news, the other playing some sort of recorded sporting event. The tv's help pass the time, but you're not gonna be here long. I think that food quality went down (which has been brought up by many people I've talked with) a little bit when COVID hit, but all restaurants felt that pinch. Stopped by a few weeks ago after my nail appointment. I've never been a fan of this place but now, it is awful. The broth tastes like water, they give you a lot of tripe and tendon but very few of the sliced beef and brisket. Dac Biet says it has meatballs, there was none in my bowl AND they give you lemons instead of traditional limes. It has to be limes. All those short cuts and the price is still comparable to other places who have raised their prices but not changed their quality. The customer service is great, the place looks clean, the sauce containers were clean but the broth and pho were as Yuck! read more

First time here. Was in the area for an event and saw the reviews and decided to give it a try. Pros: Fried egg rolls were delicious and a good dipping sauce. Love the pho here!! So much flavor in the broth, the #1 is my "go-to" as it has every meat packed with the perfect amount of noodles. Drove over 30 miles to Pho 78 and I wasn't disappointed! The restaurant is huge and clean. We were the only customers there. The staff was friendly. Ordered a chicken pho, Dac Biet pho, and cha goi (egg rolls) to split. The egg rolls were 10/10 super crispy and the filling was delicious. There was also a side of lettuce and daikon to wrap them in. The fish sauce was also great and not too sweet or salty. The pho was 8/10. The broth was a little different and left a bitter aftertaste in my mouth which I'm not used to. I would've also liked a little more chicken. Pho is amazing! Enough Said. When its cold out or if your feeling under the weather, pho noodles and soup is the way to go. Every cture has their feel good soup and for the Vietnamese people its definitely Pho. I would also recommend their Fresh Spring Rolls. First time at Pho 78 and although friends had higher marks I still left with a good feeling. My overall score is better than ok. Located off Holland Road in a huge strip with plenty of parking. The walk up was clear of debris. My visit was just before dark on a weekday and I felt safe. As you walk in the sign instructs customers to wait for a seat. I first headed to the restroom in the rear. The Men's room was clean with proper supplies. However the wall behind the stool need a really good wiping down. The dining room is a perfect square with a configuration of long tables pulled together with chairs in the center. The sides have tables and chairs that seat four. The floor is a non descriptive beige tile. The lighting is basic. The walls have Asian art and photos that help dress up the otherwise drab neutral painted walls. There are several large flat screen TV's that were on. They had a steady flow of customers that were mostly Asian. For a Monday nice traffic. My drink order was taken immediately by the owner with the big hair and flamboyant style. There is no mistaking him and his wide smile. They do not offer fountain beverages. The menu was placed in front of me. I think there is something for everyone. I ordered two apps to begin. Spring rolls and chicken wings. The apps were out quickly by the other owner. I later learned they are brothers I was instructed to let the wings cool. I told him it was my first time. He said they have been in business for 17 years. He is the more conservatively dressed one with less hair...ha! The rolls were traditional and prepared perfectly with dipping sauce. 5 stars and this was a highlight. The wings were fried up nicely and had a pretty good crispy breading. Plenty of meat was found on the bones. 3 stars. For my main I ordered the #9 brisket. It came out in a flash! I mean like in minutes. It had side sprouts and I could dress up with with hot sauce at the table. The meat was extremely plentiful, however it was average quality. The noodles were also plentiful but flavorless. The texture was there, but the consistency was thin. I prefer a thicker noodle. The home run was the broth that delivered intense flavor and saved the bowl. 3.5 stars. There was no follow up service. Checkout is at the rear counter. My total was $18. The owners were in the front and at that point asked how everything was. It was time for me to dash and I'm not criticizing or critiquing the dinner when finished. 3.5, rounding down. My preferred place for pho because it's conveniently located, parking is easy and the restaurant is spacious and clean. Staff has been changed a few times since I've been, but service has remained mediocre. Food does come out quickly, but they rarely check on you, most times you have to flag someone down if you need something. I decided to try something different than my usual Pho Tai, and went with the Shrimp Pho. The broth is entirely different than what they use for the chicken and beef pho. It was just as delicious but I think I could do without the shrimp, the broth was very flavorful. But, I'll stick to my usual Pho Tai from now on. I love this location! 1. The food is great. An appetizer we like to get is not on their menu, but we order it and they make it tasteful with yummy garnishes. Outstanding. So I'll begin by saying that I was not in the mood for pho, but my friends were so we went. I've heard about this place tho and it was on my list to go to. I ordered a Thai tea and pho. I'm not a pro at judging Thai tea, but I'd say this place has a good mix and I liked it. As for pho, I have a way that I eat it. I always try the broth first (without noodles or anything). Let me tell you, that first sip, WOW. I was thoroughly impressed. I haven't had pho like that since the first time it was introduced to my pallet. It was nice and hot and full of flavor. I hesitated to add anything to it (hoisin, sriracha, lime, etc). It's raw flavor was just super satisfying enough. Moving on, the consistency of the noodles were spot on. They were cooked to the point where it was soft enough, and sitting in the broth, getting softer, wouldn't make it soggy or undesirable. There was definitely a nice amount of protein in my bowl which I'm glad. If you like pho, this is the place to go. read more

After seeing all those good reviews, I had a high expectation with this place because we're tried many other Vietnamese restaurants around VB and couldn't find any good places but this place disappointed me agiain because their food is not authentic Vietnamese food. We ordered the Soft Fresh Spring Roll, Pho Tai (Rare beef noodle soup), and Tom, Bo Nuong (dry noodles mixed with veggies and some seasonings, with beef and shrimp). The Soft Fresh Spring Roll is oversized which made us having a mess while eating it. The shrimp is cut into half so it looks like each spring roll has 4 shrimp but it actually only has 2 in one. Maybe it's just us but we didn't like the peanut flavor sauce they provide us to dip. Back in Hong Kong the Vietnamese restaurants that are opened by Vietnamese we went only provide fish sauce when we order this spring roll, which the flavors are more matching. The Pho is totally disappointment. The soup has very little flavor like I could make a more flavorful Pho myself with one of those Pho extract that you can buy from Asian grocery stores. Also, the soup is not hot enough. The beef has no fat in them, the noodles is fine, nothing special. The only thing that's good is they provide us bean sprouts that are very fresh. The dry noodle one is actually not bad, I can tell they must have put many lemon grass on marinating the beef. The carrots are sour so it's very appetizing. HOWEVER, it is missing the most important thing of all kinds of Bun(the name of this dish), which is the fish sauce. Although the menu said the bun has fish sauce already, I tasted nothing but some lemon grass from the beef. I tried to mix it because sometimes fish sauce is liquid like water but there's really none. We asked the server if qe can get some fish sauce and the "fish sauce" he gave us doesn't taste like fish sauce but sweet and a bit savory. At the end of the day we decided to bring the bun home and put our own fish sauce that was brought from Fresh Market, and it taste wayyyy better... I assume that the owner of this restaurant is Vietnamese or Chinese(at least he's Asian...) so he should know how authentic Vietnamese should taste like. Easily my favorite pho place. The workers are incredibly nice and the service is crazy fast. I feel like you wait maybe 5 minutes or less. I really like their goi cuon sauce as opposed to other pho places because it's thicker and more peanut based instead of tangy/fish saucy. Get the coffee, just get it. Tip: wrap the crunchy egg roll in lettuce then dip it in the sauce, life changing. I think one of the reasons this place is one of my favorites is because it's consistent. The food taste exactly the same each time, they don't have off days that I've experienced. Also, prices are very reasonable and I like how they have small and large options for pho. They have small and regular, but depending on how hungry you are, you could easily fill up on a small, which costs about $8.95 plus tax. For the regular serving, it's about $9.95. Either way, you can always order a side dish of spring rolls or any of the other side orders. Super friendly staff, super quick service/food. We went as a group of 4, 2 ordered pho, 1 ordered rice dish, and I ordered the noodle dish. We also ordered spring rolls and eggrolls. The appetizers came out what felt like 5 minutes! It was fresh and delicious. The entrée followed soon after, everything was so quick. I was super surprised. Was in the mood for Vietnamese so we decided to try this place. Not a fancy place when you walk in and it was quiet after 9pm on a weeknight. We started with Lotus-Root salad and it was quite good. The lotus root was pickled and while I'm not into anything pickled, the flavors of the pickling seasoning, peanut and fish sauce were a great combination. My husband ordered Pho with steak & tripe and the broth was flavorful and the steak was very tender. I ordered the Bun Thit Nuong - vermicelli grilled pork and it was good. To describe my entire dining experience here I would easily sum it up as "meh". I've been in VB for about a year and have ordered from them probably 50 times. My standard order: Rare steak pho with beef balls - Super flavorful broth, chewy noodles, good quality meat, and fresh veggies. Spring rolls - Always made fresh so the wrapper isn't falling apart and the shrimp doesn't taste funky. Savory flavorful peanut sauce. Small but also not super expensive... so... perfect app size. Yum! I had never had pho before so my husband and I figured we would try this place after a visit to Mount Trashmore. I asked the waiter what he would recommend and he told me most people get the one with all parts of the cow lol the tendons and meatballs and everything. I got that. I added some Hoisin and sriracha to taste and it was good. I also ordered the spring rolls which had shrimp and pork and it came with this yummy peanut sauce. Rich and tasty broth in my Pho Ga that was loaded with chicken and veggies and noodles. A quick squirt of sriracha that I mixed in with the fresh basil and bean sprouts and squeezed lemon (no lime, I guess). Mmmmm... yummy in my tummy. Service was great from the waiter/manager down to the guy who cleared our table and spoke no English. My boyfriend and I are regulars here. We made the mistake of trying another Pho restaurant and not only was it more pricey at the other place, but it wasn't as great tasting. The restaurant is very clean, air conditioned (trust me, the other place we went to had no A/C and I felt like dying, we left right away!), and your food always comes out within a couple minutes. They have several big flat screen TVs which you can view from any seat in the restaurant so you can watch sports or whatever you'd like.
