#2 2. Rare Steak / Phở Tái

Absolutely delicious! The broth was so good. I had been hesitant to try this place because of the previous reviews but I'm glad we finally tried it. Definitely going to be my go-to spot.

Vietnamese Sandwich with beef

Pretty solid Vietnamese restaurant... been here 3 times over the past month to try the staples..... Visit 1 - special pho with Chicken and shrimp. Soup was good, nice size portion, came with all the extras to add into the soup.. flavor was great!! Visit 2 - Vermicelli Noodles with beef Another great dish, vegetables were fresh, beef was tasty.... Portion size was great as well. Visit 3 - Beef Banh Mi This is the 1 item that I felt off from my usual Vietnamese sandwich experience.... The bun felt more like a hoagie bun instead of a crispy French baguette... the bread was a little soft.. there was lots of beef on the sand which, more than other places I tried. But the vegetables were different.... Overall the sandwich was good, but don't think I would order it again from here... Everything else was great and highly recommended!!!

This review is for takeout. We needed some pho soup on a rainy cold Monday night so we decided to try somewhere new and closest to home. I came by around 5:30 and ordered a #3 pho soup with beef broth. It had everything except meatball. Hubby loved it. They packed it well and with all the condiments. I noticed the restaurant was nicely decorated. They had plenty of seating. I was a bit surprised to see that in an empty restaurant they had several tables with dirty dishes on top. I would definitely come back to try more menu items.

When it comes to Asian restaurants, I am a tough critic. I'm hard to please because I grew up in SouthEast Asia, and I really hate when Asian restaurants 'Americanized' their dishes. I want the real thing. :) Anyway, this review is based on their take outs. I went in and I asked what's good. She recommended the chicken and shrimp pho, and that's what I ordered, but I wanted it spicy. How spicy? She asked. I replied, "Make me cry." I received my order in 5 mins. Everything is packed separately. I love it. The chicken and shrimp pho is so good. The broth is seasoned and flavored well. The rice noodles is cooked perfectly. I am so glad that Thai chili pepper was used for heat, and not chili flakes. It was spicy good. And yes, I cry... wiping snot and all. And my lips are numb for 10 minutes. But that's how I like it, and I got it! Overall, I would definitely come back to try their other dishes. I didn't try the smoothies because, well, it's an Asian restaurant.

Beef pho

Best beef pho in Hampton roads!! Love that they give the option for raw beef. The ordering system was very convenient and fast as well.

My youngest picked pho as her lunch of choice for one of the days last week. Pho Yeah! (PY) was nearby, so PY it was! - Parking - Center lot, plenty of parking - TLC - We were warmly greeted and the lady was very sweet and made sure we had everything we needed. - Noms - Mango strawberry smoothie - My youngest had seen the pic of this smoothie as I was researching and browsing the photos on this page, prior to the visit so of course, she asked for this. I would definitely pass on this on future visits though. It's the artificially flavored powders blended with ice, so it melts fast and just not worth the dollars and empty calories. Using frozen fruit for their smoothies would be low lift and provide way better value. Spring rolls - The rolls they make are pretty long. They make three rolls and cut it in half so it's a pretty big portion, served with peanut/hoisin sauce. The rolls are tightly rolled and are fresh and made to order. Pho tai nam gau - This soup is offered in 2 sizes, small and large. I ordered the large since I was sharing it with my youngest, but although the bowl was in line with large bowls in other pho places, I felt that there was not a lot of noodles for the large size. There was definitely a lot more broth, which I am not complaining about as it was delicious. I always taste the broth as is before I squeeze the sriracha in the soup. I also ordered an extra order of noodles, which came in a bowl of some more broth. It costs about $4 extra. Unfortunately, it was slightly undercooked, it probably just needed one more minute of dunking in hot water, but it was a bit too chewy so we didn't end up eating it. I did let the lady know, so did give me a 10 % discount on the entire bill for the mishap, without me asking, which I thought was nice. Nice to have a pho spot in Chesapeake! Stay safe, Friends!

So the restaurant is really nice and clean, it looks like they just had it remodeled. They gave us big cardboard menus, which was fine. They have iPads to order from, but when it came time to pay the tap wasn't working and logged out and required a pin to log back in so we sat there forever and nobody came out to help us. I grabbed a different iPad off another table and was able to place our order. They have you pay and tip in advance which I found odd. Cause I'm tipping for a service I haven't received yet. The guy came out several minutes later and asked if we placed our order which we said yes and asked us what we ordered. He brought us our food and then I guess our order finally printed 10 minutes later so he apologized for having to ask us what we got. The pho was okay, the portions were good. The broth lacked that deep bold flavor you expect. The egg rolls were good and everything was hot and fresh. We had gotten water to drink as pho is typically salty and you get thirsty, but we never received any refills, nobody ever checked on us to see how everything was or if we needed anything additional. Overall the place wasn't bad but wasn't anything special.

I had a taste for Pho so hubby and I decided to give this place a try. The did not disappoint. Customer service was excellent. Ambiance was nice place is not very big but can still accommodate a nice size party, has seating inside and outside. Our Pho was so flavorful it was Yum Yum Yummy!! I love a good Pho and they did not disappoint. Will definitely be returning again soon. I gave a 4 star instead of 5 because they were out of bean sprouts other than that it would have been a 5.

Amazing pho broth you will not find at any surrounding Vietnamese restaurants. Egg rolls were hot and fresh. Can't wait to come back.

I can't tell you enough after every Pho Soup, it just makes you feel good, and satisfied! Plus they said the broth with its spices have been stewing for 10hrs or more, so you know it's going to be tasty. Now the decore was modern and spacious and service was spot on! I order the "sirloin with shrimp" with rice noodles. And wow! It hit the spot. I slurped up all the broth. Now you can have soup anytime of the day if you are looking for an alternative healthy meal! Will definitely come back.

The food here is okay, but it will suffice whenever it's cold out and you need some hot broth to warm you up. I came in on a Friday evening nearly a year ago. Snow was beginning to melt away and there was no food in the house. So, I took a drive to see how the area was doing in regards to the snow, and I decided to drive by my office when I saw that Pho 79 was open. When I arrived, I was seated immediately. There were maybe 2 parties already seated and eating and the lady quickly gave me a menu. When I sat down, it dawned on me that the last time I ate at this location was a good 10-15 years ago. They changed up the seating a little, and the interior lighting is darker than I remembered. I decided on: A1. Spring Rolls P13. Pho Ribeye Steak Both items came to my table quickly and I proceeded to chow down. The spring rolls were kinda tough (well, the ingredients inside were tougher than I anticipated), while the pho ribeye steak was very good. I had a soda to drink, but it took a minute to get someone's attention for a refill (if there's one pet peeve I have with certain restaurants, servers need to be more cognizant and anticipate when a customer will need a refill; during my restaurant employment days, I was taught the 'silent refill' approach - assume the customer will need refills and get them that refill before they even think to ask). I'd like to say I was in and out of Pho 79 in about 25 minutes. So speed is a strength here. The food is good, although the spring rolls need some work, and the service, although fast, could be a bit more anticipatory rather than reactionary. Still, this is the best Pho 79 in this area, and I wouldn't mind visiting again (which I have since this visit). Thank you, Pho 79! JV

The previous two times were perfect with apps and meals we've ordered. Even a co-worker of mine has been here and became a fan. Would the third time be icing on the cake for us? For this visit, we actually saw more people dining in with some ordering takeout. Not a bad deal on a nice Saturday afternoon. Staff was pretty busy around the restaurant keeping everyone happy. We were seated very quickly and ordered after a few minutes. For my meal, I ordered Cơm Thịt Gà Nướng (grilled lemongrass chicken) and a beverage of fresh squeezed sugar cane. The drink itself was really good. It wasn't too sweet and is actually good for you. Sophia drunk some and said the next time we come by, she'll order it. Great stuff indeed. The meal was very good as well. The chicken was cooked to perfection and there was plenty of veggies to go around. We got full halfway that we took it home where both still tasted great. Thanks again to Souper Pho and Banh Mi for this joyous occasion. We'll continue to be patrons the next time we're in the area :)

It arrived fresh and piping hot, with a beautifully crisp exterior that immediately told me it was made to order. The batter had that classic bánh xèo texture - thin but sturdy, with just the right amount of crunch without being greasy. Each bite had a satisfying contrast between the crisp shell and the warm filling inside. The plate came with a generous assortment of fresh greens, which added a nice brightness and balance to the dish. Everything tasted clean and well-prepared, and the greens paired especially well with the nước mắm dipping sauce, which was flavorful without being overly salty or overpowering. It had that familiar savory-sweet-tangy balance that really ties the whole dish together and makes you keep going back for another bite. What really elevated the experience, though, was the customer service. The owner was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and it genuinely felt like he was happy to have customers there enjoying the food. He even took the time to show off some of the restaurant's awards, which honestly just reinforced the feeling that this place knows exactly what it's doing! You can tell there's a lot of pride behind both the food and the space. The atmosphere itself was relaxed and comfortable, making it an easy spot to enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. Overall, this was a really solid experience from start to finish - good food, thoughtfully prepared, and paired with warm, genuine hospitality. Would absolutely recommend stopping by if you're in the area, and I'd definitely come back again to try more items on the menu!

To our surprise, Pho Nguyen actually serves beer and sake! This has become our go-to pho spot now. But y'all, let me tell you... the broth here is so on point. I add nothing but veggies, jalapeños, and a fresh squeeze of lime. I mix hoisin and sriracha in a little saucer for dipping the meat and basil. The pho noodles are cooked to perfection. I also love that they offer a small bowl option. Nothing makes me feel more guilty than not being able to finish a huge bowl of pho, and here the small size lets me enjoy the noodles, meat, and broth without wasting anything. Definitely order the fish sauce chicken wings. They're so good... a bit on the smaller side, but still delicious. We always order fresh spring rolls out of habit when we have Vietnamese food, and since they make them fresh, they were able to get the shrimp on the side for me. Service is solid, even on a Friday night. They're steady paced, check on you regularly, and we've never had any issues. The decor is simple but gets the job done, and the vibe is casual and relaxed. It was also super sweet. My boyfriend tried it and said the same thing. For food, we split two sandwiches: he got the marinated pork and I got the roasted pork. The roasted pork was honestly disappointing--almost all fat. I get that pork has some fat, but this was excessive. Most pieces were barely meat, and the texture was just not good. I ended up picking around it just to eat something. The marinated pork was actually pretty solid.
