I love this place! Small, family owned establishment in there heart of Chesapeake. Making authentic Thai food. My favorite is the chicken and shrimp pad Thai. Level 3 spice. Make sure that you tell them to explain their spice level, because it's very different from others. The flavors are fresh and the portions are plentiful. I always have enough left over for lunch the next day. So basically 2 meals for 14 dollars isn't bad at all to me. The ladies working are always very nice. Came here on a snowy Saturday night and ordered the fried Spring rolls and the dinner portion of Pork Panang curry. The restaurant was empty when I arrived probably due to the weather. The owner took my order right away and my order got started right away. The owner and the cook were definitely Thai and I heard them talking to each other. That made me more confident the food would be legit. I waited at a table while my food was being prepared. The restaurant was kind of big and looked like there were two sections of the restaurant. I didn't really peek well at the other side but I am sure they had many more tables for dine in. The dinner Panang curry came with rice which was nice. My food was ready after a little wait and I went home. The owner was really nice and the restaurant looked nice. I took the food home and it was really warm which was good for the cold night. I didn't specify how spicy I wanted my curry but the menu says it's spicy. It was only a little bit spicy for me but I really wished the curry had some vegetables in it. The Panang curry back home usually has julienned zucchini, ginger, bay leaves, etc but this curry was just curry and meat. The flavor of the curry was good as was the meat but just wanted some veges with the curry. The spring rolls were really good and I finished them all whereas I had half the curry and rice for the next day. Overall, it is a good Thai restaurant and I was satisfied with my meal's flavor and volume so really the restaurant is more like 4.5 stars on the scale of five. read more

I had super high hopes for a simply delicious authentic spring roll with peanut sauce. They were freshly made. I paid an extra $3 for shrimp to be in them as well. I saw like 2 pieces of chopped shrimp in one of them. The peanut sauce that can make or break a good spring roll was not what I was expecting. It was some sort of clear liquid with some chopped peanuts floating on top. I was very dissapointed but will stay on my quest for a decent spring roll with peanut sauce. Hottest food in the Hampton area! I am a big Thai food fan and I have visited most of the Thai restaurants in the area, as well as around the country... When rating Thai restaurants, I will usually stick to 2 dishes... Red Curry Chicken and the Basil Stir Fry with Chicken (Pad Kra Pow)... For this review I will focus on the Basil Stir Fry with Chicken... Every time I have ordered this dish, the vegetables (Red Peppers, Onions) are fresh and the chicken is sliced high quality white meat chicken. One of my pet peeves is ordering this dish and getting random vegetables like squash, eggplant, etc.. or getting dark meat chicken, which I am not a big fan of. When you walk into the restaurant, you will notice that it is in 2 sections, the section you walk in has 2-3 tables, a counter, and the nice lady there cooking all the food. Over to the right is another area that is all tables and chairs. The atmosphere is very laid back and casual. As the first line suggests, this restaurant has the hottest food in town.. I typically do Thai Hot at most of the other places, but this place.. That hot is a little too hot for me. They have a warning on the menu stating that if the dish is too hot, that they will not give refunds!! The only negative that comes to mind is their dishes tend to be a little oily at times... Good Thai is hard to find...and you won't find it here! This is probably the third time I've been here in a couple of years, and I feel like it's gotten progressively worse. Oh, where do I begin? I placed my order over the phone and the first thing the guy taking my order does is criticize my pronunciation of the food I'm ordering. First, I wasn't that off. Second, who does that?! So after I order my soup and tea (I have a cold), he rudely asks "is that all?" Why, yes, I'm pretty sure I said that's all two or three times. He says it will take twenty minutes. Fine. I get there and my tea isn't ready. Then when I look around, the whole place is empty except for one table full of dirty dishes! Yuck!!! My soup that I paid nearly $7 for is tiny! The Thai ICED tea is also small for $3 and WARM. Maybe in the future, if I'm really desperate and I'm working a 16 hour shift, I might think about coming back. Just kidding. It's easy to miss it if you're not paying attention, and TBH doesn't look like it's going to be as good as it is. I went for lunch with a friend and when we arrived we're the only people here. The restaurant has two sides, one with small two person tables close to the kitchen, and a larger dining room away from the kitchen. The staff are friendly, informal, and happy to answer any questions. When it comes to the food, I was impressed. It's cooked as you order it, which, as the only people there when we ordered, we could hear our food starting to cook as we ordered. Even though it comes out relatively fast. Pay attention to the attached photo about spices. They have a 1-5 spice level. 2 being spicier than medium and 3 being a "solid hot". THIS IS NO LIE! We ordered the wings as a app at level 3, and they are really spicy! Really good though. Cooked well with crispy outer and moist inside. Level 3 was a tad too spicy for me and I do enjoy spice. As such I ordered my Kang Ped with beef at level 2, which was good for me. It came with steamed rice and an egg roll. all of the food was awesome. The egg roll, perfectly cooked, has a really good dipping sauce. If you're not a fan of spicy food, definitely get the level one. Because your food is cooked to order it will also be fresh and hot. Got a nice greeting upon arriving for lunch and sat ourselves due to the open seating. Delicious Thai smells as soon as you walk in. Our waiter brought water very quickly and was ready to take our order. This place has been there for 12 years and is DELICIOUS. Very authentic tasting Thai food with a 1-5 spicomoter...5 = spiciest. I am so extremely happy to have this meal. I have passed this small restaurant many many times and never thought much about stopping to tey6then out. After visiting other authentic Thai restaurants in the 757 and feeling just somewhat disappointed. Compared to home sweet home NYC restaurants. Today was my day!! I've missed half of this AAPA Food month stuck at home after surgery. My family preparing all of my meals, and I much appreciate them for caring for me. My taste buds always crave my favorite Indian, Pakistani, or Jamaican dishes. Thai red curry just amongst 1 of my favorite go-to's. This Kang Ped curry is just on point, and I have found a new restaurant. Clean and simple sitting area adorned with healthy mature plants. The sweet ladies you can see are pleased to prepare these meals for us. The curry I have to say was slightly looser than I prefer. Sweetened with coconut milk and red curry paste. Just enough heat to enjoy the flavors bouncing ok your buds, then followed by an enjoyable sniffle! The fresh cellophane spring rolls with a nice crunch and dressed with Chile sauce or sweet sauce with few peanut to start my meal. I am happy to I was able to get out to order and pick up my meal. We were looking to get late lunch on Battlefield Blvd. and spotted the Jazmin Thai sign and went in. It was an intimate place with a well equipped kitchen open to a long bar. The proprietor was a well experienced chef with complete command of her menue. Our server, Terrance, was engaging and helped us order what we found to be excellent fare, well presented and plentiful. We made a great decision as well as new friends and will not doubt be back next time we are in town!! Did I mention we had a nice takeout of our leftovers, and enjoyed them the next evening. *Based on a takeout experience. It was Twosday, the second day of the second month of the two thousandth twenty second year and I was craving Thai food bad! I can't even remember the last time I had Thai food. I read the reviews and skimmed through the pics of Jasmine Thai Cuisine (JTC) and decided this was one! I called ahead to place the order to pick up and it was ready when I arrived. JTC is located in the same strip mall as Carolina Bakery and Poketastic on North Battlefield. When you walk in, the service counter is right in front and the open kitchen behind it. That side of the restaurant seems primarily for the kitchen and take out. There is a small table but seems more like for staff. There is a doorway to the right and that leads to an adjoining room dedicated to dining. I thought this was a nice set up, separating diners from the bustle of the kitchen. I was greeted by a really nice guy that started a convo and asked me about the origin of my name. Do you don't know this story? I'll tell ya the next time I see ya. We exchanged stories about how our names get butchered, so we had a good laugh. - Noms - I had a bad craving, but I was not necessarily craving my go-to Thai dishes. I decided to try something different. Yum Nuea (grilled beef) - There are other choices of protein, but I chose beef and it was a good choice. The beef was warm and tender, cut into nice wide strips, with a nice balance of citrus and fish sauce. The salad contains thinly sliced cukes, large chunks of tomatoes, julienned carrots, thinly sliced red onions, green onions and cilantro. It's $10 for a "salad", but it could easily be a meal. Just add rice to stretch it! Pohtaak - This is a steamed type of dish. I was pretty impressed with the way they packaged it to go. Shrimp, scallops, squid, and big strips of fish, probably tilapia, is cooked with various vegetables in curry paste in a foil packet. The sauce is very thin and more soupy, but it's super delicious. It kinda reminded me of Korean style soups. The whole foil packet was sealed tightly (it was heavy duty foil) and placed in a foil tray and packed in a plastic bag. It comes with a side of rice and one veggie spring roll with thick, sweet dipping sauce. So good! I would definitely have this again. Thai Tea - the only thing about this is that I wish I had more of the milk than tea. I'll just have to ask for more milk next time. It looks like a small restaurant from the outside, but once inside, the adjoining room provides plenty of seating. Everything was super delicious and I can't wait to try my go-to items next time! Craving Thai?? This is a MUST! Everything was so flavorful!! There was only one cook but she still managed to prepared everything in a timely manner. Just be aware that it will take a few minutes to get orders out since it's all prepared on the spot. Ordered some wonton soup, the Pad Thai (shrimp and chicken) and shrimp fried rice. The flavors were delicious and our meal was made to order so it all tasted fresh. The dinner prices are a bit higher but the portions were very generous. I really had big expectations with the great reviews here. I had been craving green papaya salad and a friend suggested this place had a better tasting one than another place in the area. Walking in, the kitchen is to the left with a couple small tables along the wall to the right. Then there's an opening at the front to an equally sized area on the other side of the wall with a nice dining area, away from the hubbub of the kitchen, and presumably, pick up area. It was a bit of a wait before they took my order, but it was lunch hour so I gave some grace on that. Several tables were occupied and I hoped this was a good sign. I ordered the papaya salad, the massaman curry with shrimp, and a small Tom yum goong soup. They brought me a complimentary spring roll while waiting for my food. I pounced on it when it came because it was turning out to be a decent amount of time before my food arrived. Once my order did arrive, it was allll the dishes at once. It would have been nice to have received the soup earlier to break up the long wait. But it was there at last and I was hungry. I was pleasantly surprised the soup wasn't a small cup, but a regular sized bowl. However, the taste was disappointing. It was *very* sour (more than this soup is usually) and pretty diluted. On to the green papaya salad: it was ok, but the papaya didn't seem freshly grated. It tasted dried out without the fresh crunch, like it was grated a couple days ago and sat in the fridge. The dressing that is usually mixed in the salad was lacking in flavor or bite. It was actually pretty bland, no spice, and I don't think there was any fish sauce used in it. I was disappointed by the dish I expressly came there for. I'll give it looked pretty, though. The massaman curry was ok but again, didn't impress me. It was a very watery curry with none of the complexity of flavor. Nothing is worse than a watery curry; I like curries to be a creamy consistency and with good flavor, and both were lacking in the dish. I also ordered a coconut drink, but just know it is the one that comes in a can. Was hoping it was the kind that's a little sweet and has the pieces of fresh young coconut in it. Also, unfortunately, a lot of the food didn't agree with me later. I tried the leftovers and had the same results. Overall, I was unfortunately, not very impressed. I just wish everything didn't taste watered down and flavors muted. Was it so bad I wouldn't return? No. But I'm not too keen on returning, and honestly, it probably will not be at the top of my list when I think about where to have lunch/dinner. read more

Jasmine Thai was decent for a lunch option, though paying $19 for mainly onions in my Drunken Noodles was not what I had in mind. The spice level was also a bit spicier than a normal 3, so I was a little taken aback by that! The flavor was pretty good as well and the service quite friendly. I stopped by this wonderful little place on the night of October 1st. Jasmine is a small restaurant with 2 dining areas. When you first walk in you can see their kitchen and a few small tables in one section. Just past that, on the right, is a dining area with a few 4 tops and, I believe, two 6 tops. I took a seat in the dining area after I was told to seat myself. There are menus already at the tables and I was greeted by a friendly server who took my drink order. I realized quickly that my server is also the chef - she was pulling double duty and did so with relative ease. On my first visit I ordered the following: panang - red curry with coconut milk + topped with lime leaves (I ordered it with pork) gyow grob - wonton stuffed with chicken & garlic, then deep fried and served with sweet & sour sauce with crushed peanuts Thai iced tea The panang had some heat to it; hot enough to recognize but not so hot to make you beg for water. But spice is subjective - I thought it had kick but not so much to drown out the flavor of the dish. The gyow grub was an appetizer but I tore through it because it was so delicious. And the tea was refreshing. I came back on 10/25/19, and this time I had the spring rolls and kai saparot (chicken breast + shrimp sauteed in brown sauce with cashews, pineapple, snowpeas, carrots, bamboo shoots, onions + mushrooms). The spring rolls were perfect for whetting the appetite and the kai saparot was big enough to feed two (no, I didn't eat the entire thing!)! Oh yeah, it was also delicious, in case you were wondering. Service is excellent; the two times I came in they weren't terribly busy, but considering my server also cooked all the dishes she was on top of things. She was also very nice and looked like she enjoyed what she was doing, another plus in my book. Jasmine is an excellent spot that serves plentiful and delicious food. It's been a few years since my last update so it's time for another one. I'm happy to say they still get five stars. I love the food and the friendly staff and I love the fact that this restaurant is locally owned and operated, it remains my go to spot for Thai food. The food is always fresh and delicious, the restaurant is always clean, the restrooms are clean and properly stocked.  Proper COVID-19 protocols are in place. Jasmine Thai Cuisine is located in the Battlefield Shoppes shopping center on the west side of North Battlefield Boulevard in Chesapeake.  The private parking lot shared with the rest of the businesses in the shopping center is not large but is of adequate capacity, I've always been able to find a spot to park. The lot is in good repair and generally clear of debris, the walk up to the restaurant entrance is always clear. Originally, the restaurant was very small but at one point the adjoining space became available so Jasmine Thai expanded into that space as well. This more than doubled their seating capacity which was much needed. Unfortunately the kitchen size remained the same. The narrow galley kitchen is open so if you're seated at the counter or a table in the front dining room you can watch your order being prepared from scratch. The cook area is small so if they are busy orders can take some time to get to the table but the wait is generally not unreasonable. Lunch time seems to be the busiest with lots of takeout orders placed over the phone and a good number of diners inside as well. It doesn't matter whether you fo for lunch or dinner, you will get the same great tasting food prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients. Over the years, I've worked my way through most of their menu and I really have never had anything I didn't like. As far as appetizers go, I really enjoy the Chicken Satay with that wonderful peanut dipping sauce.   I also like the fried chicken spring rolls. The Som Tum (shredded green papaya salad) is another hit, very flavorful and delicious. I also really like the Laab in all its forms (beef, chicken or pork). Soups, there are some great ones here. My favorites are the Tom Ka Gai (chicken) or Tom Ka Goong (shrimp) which are really wonderful coconut milk based soups, so flavorful. The Gyow Nam (wonton soup) is pretty amazing too and the Thai Noodle Soup (basically the Thai version of Vietnamese pho) is pretty spectacular as well, the broth is just so flavorful.   There are just so many entrees I really enjoy here, I will name a few. There are some really nice stir-fry dishes like Pad Kapau, Kai Saparot (I like it with chicken), Cashew Stir-Fry with Snow Peas and their house Jasmine Stir-Fry. I love all the noodle dishes here. Pad Thai, Pad Si Ew, Pad Ki Mao and my favorite Lad Na. I love all the curry dishes as well. The Kang Ped, Kang Kheow Wan and Panang are nice but I really love the Masman which is yellow curry sauteed with potatoes, pineapple, onions, peanuts and coconut milk. All the fried rice dishes are nice too, how can you go wrong with fried rice? Vegetarians can find much to like here with a nice selection of soups and entrees. There isn't much of a dessert selection but the Sticky Rice with Mango is really delicious and my favorite way to end a meal here. Hampton Roads is blessed with many good Thai restaurants. Jasmine Thai Cuisine is my favorite based on the fresh and tasty dishes, the friendly staff and the location which is very convenient for me. Its been awhile since I have been here. I've going around trying all these Thai places, but you know what they say..."if its mean't to be, then you will find your way back." I have been trying everyone's Pad Thai..and let me tell you...I think Jasmine Thai has them beat. I literally find myself comparing every pad thai to Jasmine Thai's...and there is just no comparison. Another item I always is their Pad Kapow Fried Rice. Its delicious! It has Thai basil, with bell peppers. chicken, and rice...sauced with some deliciousness. Add some of their "Thai" siracha (its not the chinese kind) I like their fried vegetable spring rolls. They are a little pricey though...but worth it. It seems they have changed the recipe dip that used to come with the spring rolls, which I am really happy about...it tastes more like chili sauce vs fish sauce...and now they add some peanuts in there. I will say...their sticky rice isn't as flavorful...I love sticky rice, and theirs could be sweeter with a bigger portion. I think I have done my rounds of trying all the Thai Restaurants, and this place is probably my favorite. read more

This was the perfect Yelp choice for this cold rainy day in need of something warm, soothing, and in want of a bit of sunshine! Can Thai food actually bring sunshine to a persons day? Oh yeah, and it did for this little lady in a BIG way today! This was one of the BEST Thai experiences that I've had the pleasure of partaking in in the Hampton Roads Area in a long time (is that enough usage of "in's for you?!). I am crazy passionate about my Thai! In fact, only 2-3 Thai Eateries come to mind that actually meet all the criteria for Thai greatness, and this is one of those top 3 places for this area! This particular eatery keeps it plain and simple! Who needs frills when your getting down to the nitty gritty of what makes for exceptionally good eats anyways...right?! The basics on ambiance and decor, but this does not detract from the real meat of this wonderful Mom and Pop Thai Restaurant! Their open kitchen provides ample room to see your food prepared before your very eyes, and the freshness and quality of what they are rocking out will knock your socks off! So flavorful, so well executed, so pleasing to the mouth and stomach in every way imaginable! This lunch was joy incarnate! Honestly, I wish I could have stayed there all day trying a variety of their scrumptious dishes with a group of friends to enjoy it along with me! According to my boyfriend, who is currently living in Norfolk, Jasmine Thai Cuisine has one of the best pad thai in the area. We visited recently and got the chicken pad thai and chicken penang curry. Although Level 3 spice is too spicy for me, the flavor is indeed very good. It definitely helped satisfy my pad thai craving. Also, I was actually very pleased with the curry. Although I don't really love thai curries due to coconut milk, I found the addition of lime leaves in the penang curry made for a very aromatic dish. I'd highly recommend. We have been very loyal to a local thai restaurant near our undergraduate university; thus, finding another adequate place to serve decent thai has been difficult--especially in VA. While the Mrs and I were headed to Lowe's, we found this restaurant on Yelp and decided to give them a try. When we walked in our first surprise was an African American woman was behind the counter to greet us. OK, that's culturally different but we were digging the diversity. after being seated which didn't take long during their lunch hours we ordered dishes we were familiar with having dined at Thai restaurants before. There was one cook and this made receiving food a little longer wait than usual but we were ok with that as long as it was authentic and good. Well that staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was flavorful and filling but nothing special stood out about this restaurant. We weren't wowed, it was more of an experience like when a Thai friend invites you over for dinner at their mother's home. They weren't expecting company but had something on the table to fill your belly. We will probably never go back only because there was nothing about this experience that would draw us back, not because of the food or the service. Definitely would recommend this place. Order the Pad Kapau with shrimp, Thai Hot and let me tell you, it comes with the heat. But the flavor is so delicious that it was well worth it. Someone at the FOH was not very good and keeping track of orders and it negatively affected every aspect of the transaction. Here's the thing, the food is really good. It's not good enough, however, to be told you're "too early" when you arrive at the recommended time because you tell them your name and they're not paying enough attention to realize that you are not "John". It's not good enough that when you give your name, they hand you someone else's food (John's) and then get annoyed that you insist on giving it back and receiving what you ordered. The food is NOT good enough to be charged for the order they incorrectly gave you (John's) AND to be charged for the one you actually ordered. When we took the food home, the order was still wrong, anyway. We told them which order was ours and they refunded the smaller amount, so we still paid for some random person's (John's) more expensive order. So this is my sister and I to go to for Thai Food, thanks to Joe D. he was the one that recommended this place to me. I've brought my sister, and Cousins here and they love it as well. It's not by any means the fanciest place, but it's among the best Thai food I've ever had. Tastes authentic, and great portions (my sister and I always shares dishes, it's a lot!) I've tried their Pad Thai with Beef, Thai Chicken Wings with Sweet Chili and the Curry too (I prefer the Sweet Chili more bc of its sweet tang), Crispy Wontons, Coconut Soup (can add chicken or shrimp to it), and of course their Thai Tea. And so far, I've got to say everything I have tried so far was Delicious. Keep in mind it's a small place, so sometimes they run a little behind on orders when it gets busy. Definitely has a bit of a "hole in the wall" feel, but those nice ladies will make you some delicious food- it will feel like you're getting food from the Thai grandma you never had. read more

Had a great dinner with my sister, and cousins. Bc you know eating with family and friends make the dining experience better. We ordered their Thai wings with Sweet chili sauce. And ordered their Coconut Soup with chicken as an appetizer. They were both tasty. As for our main entree we had ordered the Pad Thai with Beef, it was big enough for my sister and I to share. That was thai-licious!!! When you say to yourself you are full, but so end up ordering dessert. We happened to order their Mango with sweet sticky rice. Rice sweetened with coconut milk and maybe a little sugar, with mango slices on the side. I know it doesn't sound like a traditional dessert, but I'm telling you, it's pretty good. my go to place for a quick lunch. the best pad thai and thai tea i have had in the 757 and they always cook the food fresh!

The restaurant workers are very friendly. The dining area was very clean. I ordered the green curry with chicken, I was a little disappointed about the portion size, it was served in a small cereal bowl. The overall taste was okay, definitely spicy but I'll be honest I've had better in the area. Average at best. read more
