This is a cool spot tucked into the back. They have their own one story building that almost looks like a house. They have a garden in the back. Very homey. Service was nice and quick! The bun bo hue was very yummy and the noodles were nice and thick. I like the meat chunks that they place in this dish. Honestly it was not spicy even thought it's meant to be a spicy dish. We were able to add Sriracha which helped. The spring rolls were tasty, exactly as I expect them to be with the peanut sauce. It's the best Vietnamese restaurant in the area!!! It's actually quite the whole in the wall, it's a little hidden from the Main Street and away from the mall traffic. So I met up with some of my favorite people after a long day of shopping... Now bear in mind, I have a small cold and after taking medicine, I lost my voice!!! So apparently I sound like a Filipino Marg Simpson lol!!! The hot jasmine tea is soothing and the waiter was kind enough to try to offer me a salt water rinse (which I politely declined lol). I always get pho #4 and it never fails. Always hot and delicious, it comes with fresh herbs they grow in the back of the restaurant. So feed a cold it is!!! I'm going to be as big as a food truck hag at this rate (minus smelling like cooking grease, thank goodness for my travel size bottle of Burberry). Inside is nothing fancy, almost a bit divey and unappealing, but does the job for a casual night out although we usually opt for takeout. They are always very quick and service is efficient. My son and I have been to at least 60 pho restaurants around the US I would rank Pho 79 in my top 3. The broth was heavenly, very authentic and you could tell it was real bone broth made with love. The steak was tender and generous. It is off the beaten path, but well worth coming here! The atmosphere is cute (they have a swing set in their "backyard" perfect for kids of any age! ). This is the most delicious pho I think I have ever had. I used to eat pho on the regular too. You can tell they put their love into this broth. It just smells so flavorful and it tastes even better. I ordered the pho with no meat and chose beef broth. I got it to go and it was all nicely packaged. I even got my side of bean sprouts, limes, jalapeños, and a ton of basil. Food was really good. I ordered thick noodles with shrimp and pork. It was a simple dish and they did not mess it up. Service was good. Before I took a seat, they took my drink order. Then they in a timely manner got my food order. It was delivered fairly quickly. My only issues with the place were cleanliness and price. The place wasn't crazy dirty but it wasn't clean. The containers on the table that held everything were not clean, so that immediately made me question how clean dishes and food would be. This didn't deter me from eating though. The price surprised me after I went to pay. For a small thick noodle shrimp!pork bowl and 1 drink, I paid $18. That was before the tip. I was visiting from out of town and called multiple times to speak with someone about it. No one ever got back to me. The banh mi was pretty good, but the lettuce was a bit wilted. I thought this was from the heat of the chicken, but after the moldy jalepeno, I'm not so sure. The spring rolls were pretty good too. I ate them and the banh mi before I found the jalepeno. I also ordered summer rolls, but didn't eat them. I threw them away after I found the moldy jalepeno. The pho was so disappointing. The broth was bland and had almost no flavor. The meat was bland, but tender. There were plenty of toppings. They also made sure I had the extra herbs, hoisin and sriracha I requested. The sauces couldn't save the broth. The food here is hit or miss. Tonight was a miss. Had a party of 5, we all were seated promptly. We all got Pho, all different variety and sizes. The order came out quickly. Those were all the positives. They forgot to give us our water. The broth wasn't piping hot so it didn't cook our tai nam beef, the noodles tasted chalky as if they were cooked way in advance and placed in containers that transferred its taste like plastic. It's definitely a miss this time. Probably will not come back especially with the cost of a Pho bowl nowadays and with a lot of Pho restaurants around that offer better tasting soup. read more

My wife and her friends normally cook pho at home, but she's been sick and craved Vietnamese soup on a rainy day so we tried this place out. She got the pho and I got bun bo hue. Immediately, she noticed the broth is too dark and commented the pho is out of the box (pho broth is normally a little clear). I noticed tons of meat and noodles were good, but my bun bo hue soup tasted diluted/watered down (probably less spicy for the local demographic). My wife also said that there were strips of pork in it which is not standard as bun bo hue is spicy beef noodle soup (mine had both beef and pork which may have altered the taste). The restaurant had tons of space, had a great family atmosphere, food came out quick, and service was good. Overall, we were hoping for better. I ordered takeout from Pho 79 because i was feeling a little blah, so i wanted some soup to comfort my soul. The order arrived in about 30 mins or less. So that was great!! I ordered chicken, beef, and pork skewers with noodles, also shrimp ramen with veggies, and rice paper spring rolls. It cost about $57. Upon arriving my excitement turned to sadness, because all but a drop of my soup had spilled in the bag. I would think they'd put the soup in a separate bag and tie it up to avoid this happening. It spilled all over everything!! But i got over it... The shrimp and noodles were in a different box, so i did still get to eat that. The meat was pretty good with the noodles. It was flavorful and still hot.. The clear dipping sauce it came with smelled weird, but it tasted ok. But if you smell it first you may talk yourself out of it... Lol... Its lawd have mercy stank.. Smh.. The rice paper rolls were chewy to the point of no return... They had no flavor whatsoever, the peanut sauce was the only flavor!!! I did enjoy the noodle dishes the most. I used to get Pho Ga, but recently I've been stuck on "Banh Canh Chay" which is a thick noodle soup with vegetables and tofu. The noodles in this dish are made with Tapioca which makes them super chewy which adds another dimension to this dish. My coworker who comes with me here gets "Com Bo Nuong" which is a dish that comes with 3 skewers of lemongrass marinated grilled beef over rice.
