People were very friendly and the food was decent, not the best but decent. I arrived with my family to watch the 49ers and steelers game. They had it on in the back room where I guess "people watch football." The room and seating was great BUT the 3 flat screens that they had couldn't be any bigger than 32 inches and the tvs were very high up making it hard to see anything. Sadly I didn't bring my glasses so I was screwed. For being a place that promotes sporting events they need to upgrade their televisions. Also maybe do some thing with their tattered menu. Came on lunch and got the appetizer combo which came with groovy twists ( there cheesey Brad stick ) hot wings and seasoned potatoes wedges for 10.99 not a bad deal to split came with 4 groovy twists 6 wings and a handful of wedges. Also got a individual pizza. I love there sauce and they don't skimp on the toppings. I looked up the StrawHat Pizza menu online and they offered vegan pizza including the Daiya vegan cheese. I ordered a medium vegan pizza w/ veggies along with another regular large cheese pizza for delivery. The cost of my large was $16.99 and the medium vegan was $18.99. I thought it was fine since usually vegan cheese cost more in most places. I ended up getting a delivery of a "vegan pizza" with no cheese. My vegan pizza had nothing but marinara sauce and 3 different veggies, but yet it cost me more than the regular large cheese pizza. I called to inquire about this situation and the owner was not helpful. When I asked who I was speaking to she did not even give me her name, she just stated, "I'm the owner." When I explained my situation to her she said, "We don't carry vegan pizza." I told her that they needed to be more clear about their menu, since when I ordered my pizza I ordered it as a vegan pizza and the person who took my order never questioned or commented on my order. They just said okay and repeated the order to me as if this was a normal request for their store front. In the end it is not the pizza that bothered me; it was the uncaring customer service that really upset me. read more

What ever you do, do NOT fall for that "Half price pizza" on Tuesdays ploy. What you get is just that... half a pizza. Or at least an outer half that is nothing but crust. They fix it so that just the inner ring is dotted with a scant smattering of toppings and the entire outer half is nothing but crust. My wife is a school teacher and one of the organization that help local schools was having a fundraiser. My wife is vegan and on their website it states they have a vegan menu. So I'm thinking a win /win here I can get a cheese pizza for my daughter and I and a vegan for my wife plus helping out CED organization for locsl schools. You can't really go too wrong with pizza. So, straw hat didn't disappoint. However, don't expect great pizza here. It's just good enough to temporarily stave off you pizza cravings. You'll need a much better choice to actually quench your pizza cravings. Plus, their prices are way too high; disappointingly so. So, only go here if you're desperate for a bite of pizza. Unbelievable. It's been over twenty five years since Iv'e been to a Straw Hat. We used to have one in Orange on Chapman where I grew up and I remember I used to go there for Hot Hat's. It's a super thin calzone with a thin crispy shell stuffed with Italian sausage, peppers and cheese. They were only $4 back then. Now you pay $6.50, which is still a bargain comparatively speaking. In any case, this location, while a bit smaller, is still a family restaurant. I ordered a Hot Hat and it's pretty much exactly as I remember it. It sure brought back some memories. The staff was also super friendly as well. You can't this anywhere else, so it is a unique item. I sure hope the next one I have is a little sooner. read more

Straw Hat Pizza is over priced and the workers look miserable to be there I would be too if I worked in the food chain industry. They seriously need to remodel they are definitely making money off their over priced pizza. Like for starters the curtains on the windows and the carpet floor it looks so old. There's this really big lady that works there that always looks upset or in a bad mood she has like a mullet hair cut and she seems like she is not a pleasant person doesn't even smile or anything she just stands and looks at her other coworkers (she needs customer service training ASAP) The pizza is good but over priced I rather go to Little Ceasers that is literally across the street from this place. The pizza there has gone downhill. Ate the wings last night and tonight have the runs. So stay away from their wings. The kids love to go there as they have a small arcade area. First off I want to say this place is absolutely delicious! The workers in the place were so sweet but there was something going on in the back by the kitchen that really cannot be ignored. As I walked up to pay for my pizza you can clearly hear what sounded like a manager SCREAMING at an employee for "folding boxes" instead of doing other duties. I mean screaming to the point where the cashier had to apologize because I could not help but stare. The manager who I am assuming was an older woman by the sound of the voice came out for a moment and even acknowledged that there were customers and even screamed to the employee about that! I am a very professional individual and come from a background of Human Resource managers as parents and this behavior was completely uncalled for! I understand if an employee isn't doing something correctly or was given incorrect instructions then please correct them. But in no way shape or form scream at them knowing there are paying customers standing 5 feet away. I will be gladly going to this place again because everyone else was so sweet and the pizza was great but this manager needs to realize that you DO NOT speak to employees that way. read more

Literally one of the worst pizza restaurants I have ever been to. This place seems very sketchy. I was in a few weeks ago and ordered my pizza. While I sat down, I saw what looked like a roach crawling on the side of the counter. I did not say anything because I thought this would embarrass them since they were helping customers. I belive it was one of the owners I saw telling her employees what to do and she like yelled at them simply because they were not cleaning the dining room although it was kind of busy. Who wants to eat at place where the owners don't even treat there employees right? Almost everyone who works there looks sorry to work there. I dont blame them if they are working in those conditions. Not to metion I saw one of the owners pouring herself a beer behind the counter. Is this even legal? Idk. This place seems very sketchy. We are all about supporting local businesses, but sometimes, it gets to a point where you just can't let them "expect" you'll come back. They are just not friendly there. We go with sport teams, friends, etc. and I have NEVER left with the feeling that ANYONE is happy to work there. The food is fair. The atmosphere is okay for kids. Super delicious, the crust was nice and light but still crisp, not greasy at all, and toppings were super fresh. And the delivery was so quick we honestly couldn't believe it. I figure Strawhat pizza must know this so in order to offset their inadequacy, they attempt to entice patrons with "half priced pizza" Tuesdays or basically a "two for one" situation. I go in and order one pepperoni pizza and one 1/2 cheese and 1/2 pepperoni pizza. I am then directed to sign that states that they will not do half orders because this slows production. Yes, of course if I were ordering separate toppings this would most certainly apply. However .... I am simply asking them to place the topping on only half of the pizza thus SAVING them time! I was advised that I would be charged the regular price then for each pizza. What's going on here, people???? That's just ill customer service and I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

Straw Hat Pizza is one of those after-school meeting places that kids and their parents go after the game. Its got a mini arcade to keep the kids occupied, beer to keep the parents occupied and really greasy food to keep everyone occupied. The place always feels very hot and poorly ventilated with games that are as outdated as the decor. The salad bar looks a little on the toxic side. Drove from OC to try some good old straw hat pizza, what a waste of time. Salad bar was a little brown, pizza sauce is a little different tasting to me and the yellow cheese on it threw me. If you are looking for a late night snack, beware that this place sometimes closes early without notice when it is a slow night. Recently I was at the restaurant and they were closing up an hour early, even though I still had food and alcohol on the table. When I left the restaurant there were people on their way in, but I had to inform them that the restaurant was closing up shop for the night. The pizza itself is good, and the staff is very friendly. It is a bit of a pain that you have to order alcohol at the cash register, then go to a separate area to present your receipt to have the alcohol poured for you, but I guess that's because people under 21 are on the staff and can't pour it. Despite being nice, the staff is a bit slow to take orders. The restaurant has a very large room good for big groups - it can probably fit 50 or more people in that large room. But again beware that they might shut down your party if the restaurant's business is slow! read more
