Squared family size from Pedro location. This version isn't really my cup of tea.

If I had to choose my favorite pizza in all of Long Beach, it'd definitely be Buono's (with Pizza x Two being a close runner-up). Both locations on Willow and Ocean have never failed to satisfy my pizza craving. The pizza is doughy, cheesy, and extremely flavorful. Their mozzarella sticks are also the absolute best I've ever had. Super crunchy, cheesy, and simply heavenly. If I wasn't watching the wallet and waistline I'd be dining here more often. Service has always been great and I've never had any complaints or bad experiences over the years. However, I've been to their newer location in San Pedro and I wasn't fond of how they cut up their family-sized pizzas. The LB locations serve the traditional round sized pie whereas the Pedro location will serve a family-size as one of those square pizzas cut up in awkward slices. The wait time that day was also noticeably longer than usual which was also a con. Due to those minor hiccups I'll just be sticking to the original locations. The ambiance and interior on Willow is more of a family-friendly vibe compared to the upscale style of the Buono's on Ocean. I still enjoy dining at both though and don't have a personal favorite as these two locations uphold consistency in their food/service. My go-to order for the fam & I is the family-sized pizza with pep & sausage along with an order of the mozzarella sticks. The chicken parm sandwich is pretty decent as well but nothing necessarily mind-blowing. I occasionally stop by for their lunch buffet that currently runs Wed-Fri from 11am-2pm. Their buffet includes endless pastas, salad and pizza so you'll definitely be getting more bang for your buck. Overall, Buono's is a solid 5/5 and I'd recommend this establishment to anyone.

    Gingerbread Man pizza!

Visited Buono's in Long Beach a few months after returning from Italy. We were delighted to find they carried our favorite wine! It was the Christmas Season and they were offering a Gingerbread Man pizza. I love, love, love Gingerbread men so of course we ordered. Also, we were hoping to catch an NFL game on t.v. That night. Initially they didn't think they were able to accommodate but they did! Food was delicious, wine was amazing and the atmosphere vibe was great.

    Big trash behind pizzaria !

I placed my order around 10:50 AM. The driver arrived to pick it up at 11:56 AM, and it still wasn't ready! They told him it would take another 20-plus minutes--a complete lack of manners and disrespect toward others, since the order was supposed to be ready by 11:30 AM at the very latest. The pizzeria was empty, so I ended up waiting another 45 minutes inside the shop. The pizza itself was very thin, with hardly any toppings! All in all, it's not worth the price they charge. Here's a tip: better organization would be a good idea for the employees working the front counter; they don't even say "good morning," nor do they offer a glass of water to make up for a 45-minute wait that went well beyond the promised time! Be genuine--that's how your business will truly prosper!

    Spaghetti and meatballs

Ordered takeout spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. It was fire! Tasted like I was in Little Italy in New York. Portion size was excellent the meatballs were great and I got a 2 for 1 deal! I highly recommend that you try them. If the flavor is that good with takeout imagine when you get the full treatment when you dine in!

    Burned Zucchini Log
    Sassy J.

This is my go-to restaurant for pizza! The pizza is fresh, with homemade sauce and plenty of cheese. This visit was a let down. I ordered zucchini and the waitress brought out a plate of burned, overcooked zucchini logs. When I told her they looked burned, she responded, "They are fried zucchini." I still don't know what she meant by that. Plus, they hid the extra burnt pieces in the bottom of the stack Disappointed that Buono's would serve such substandard food. I hate to drive 30 miles to a restaurant, just to be dissatisfied.

Tried again and wasn't much better. Lasagna was watery and lacked flavor. Meatballs tasted like leftovers. Salad was decent this time.

We'd be happy to come down again in traffic, because it's absolutely worth the drive here. Some find the pizza sizes small or the prices high in comparison to your average pizza joint - but your average, everyday pizza place in California is just...ew. Their crust is very thin, Neapolitan style in a brick oven, beautiful and a little chewy, slightly-charred from the brick oven. Amazing texture. Traditionalists, so we just got the Margherita and Bianco, adding some mushrooms and a drizzle of truffle. SOO good. We also tried the fried zucchini blossoms, which were very light and not oily at all. Caesar salad was very delicious and fresh, also had the octopus, which was perfectly grilled and like eating steak. To finish, we had some amazing coffee with tiramisu. Wow. Not usually a fan, but their tiramisu was super light, not overly sweet, and super good. Thanks to our wonderful server, Diana ! Super friendly and everything came out quickly. Eveything is delicate, fresh, lovely, and makes you feel like you're in Italy. Can't wait to be back. Tutto bene, grazie!

Mid week when we arrived which wasn't too crazy. There was no one on the patio which was nice as it gave us first choice for a seat...lol... Everyone was seating inside. The place itself isn't that big. You have the bar area with some bar seating. Then there's a couple of tables inside and of course the patio which is along the sidewalk. Personally I prefer sitting outside for the people watching. The staff were all amazing and very friendly. Places like that make the experiences more enjoyable. You want someone who is friendly and respectful. As we were there early, we grabbed one of the beer which they have quite a good selection on tap. There's also wine if you're not into beer. When it came time to grab some food, we were able to get a table inside. Majority of the breweries tends to serve pretty much the same things, pizza sandwiches and salads. No complaints here. Simple food goes a long way. There were a couple of us so we grabbed a few things to share. Started off with the pretzel balls with cheese dip and honey mustard and the chips with queso cheese dip. Pretzel was tasty and outdid the queso dip. Pizzas of course which were pretty big in sizes. A couple of the pizzas and a salad did four of us with leftovers. Their Hawaiian pizza was quite tasty and was finished. We also ordered one of the mushroom pizzas with an egg. It was tasty but a little on the salty side. The arugula salad was delicious. Simple but tasty. And then there was ham pizza I believe with onions and peppercini. That was also a favorite of the night. Overall, the place was quite fun. Not a big brewery and more intimate. The crowd was great and as most places are very kid and family friendly. There was couple of kids when we arrived. Service was great. Food and drinks were enjoyed and the service and staff were excellent. Street parking available along the front but also along the neighborhood.

The cheese is so good, and they do not skimp. The BBQ chicken pizza was good but we all thought it needed more BBQ sauce. The wings were crunchy and full of flavor! The wedges were cut to a decent size, seasoned well and crunchy on the outside. Their ranch is also great, I am not sure if it's made in house but it tastes like it is. The staff were incredible accommodating, super sweet, and made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered a half and half pizza online for pickup and spent over $30 for pizza and a 4oz container of ranch. They told us it would be about 20min when we ordered so we got ready and left. We got there probably 15min after we ordered and grabbed two cokes while we waited. I tried to pay with cash and was told he might not have change to give me. I said that was ok even though it's pretty lame that you don't keep change in your register. He happened to find a very large coin bag and made me change. We were sitting right at the front and you couldn't miss us. They asked us a few times what our name for the order was and we told them the same thing every time. Finally after about 10 min they asked us for the 3rd time what our name was and then walked away. We could hear someone say "the order for Kymmy didn't leave they are here" or something along those lines. We kind of just looked at each other. The guy that rang us up came over and said, "sorry something happened to your pizza it'll be another 20min or so". At this point we had already been waiting about 15 min for the pizza. So we said ok because we were starving. One of the employees asked us if we drank wine we said no we didn't and that's why we were drinking cokes. He said, "ohh, okayyyy..." and gave us a very judgmental look. Like sir, you don't know why we aren't drinking. We also kind of figured he wanted to give us a few beverage for the mix up. But that was the end of it. We heard someone say our name and we asked if ours was ready and one girl acted like we were being impatient while waiting. Like we didn't just wait over a half hour for food. Finally our pizza was done after a total of 40 min and there was very minimal apology for the delay. We took it back to our hotel and we were so excited it smelled so amazing and it looked so good. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were when we took our first few bites. It was not that great. We had ordered pepperoni and the veggie pizza. We ate half of it because we were starving and very quickly regretted it. It made both of us super sick on top of everything else Needless to say we won't be back here and won't be recommending this place either

Overall, it was solid--sauce had good flavor, cheese was decent, and the dough was nice. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely a respectable slice. My only issue was the balance--there was a bit too much cheese for the crust, so even folding it New York-style, it didn't hold up well and kind of fell apart. A little more crisp on the bottom would've made a big difference. I also tried their Sicilian grandma-style focaccia pizza, and honestly, that was a huge letdown. It had this dusty, raw flour taste right away, was dry and spongy, and way overpowered with Parmesan. It just didn't come together at all--pretty disappointing, especially for the price. I've had frozen pizza that tasted better. Ended up just picking at the cheese to salvage something. On the plus side, the service was friendly and the space itself is chill--nice casual vibe with a few tables inside and outside to hang out.
