We wanted to stay local for dinner and also to show support to our neighborhood restaurants. We had dinner at Buono's Pizzeria. This was not the first time we have eaten in the restaurant, we have ordered pizza from here a few times, but this time we wanted to eat in. We ordered a few things to share, the mozzarella sticks and meat balls from the appetizer menu and the lasagne of the main course menu. We added minestrone soup to the main course. All the food was delicious, the portions were so large that we took home enough left overs for two meals the next day. We really liked the meat sauce that was on the lasagne, the lasagne itself was really tasty and the mozzarella sticks were surprisingly good. There was a lot of bread! The service was casual, but friendly and fast. Our server seemed a little disinterested and aloof at first but after engaging with him he opened up a bit and gave us advice on our order. We liked the old school decor, the vintage photos on the wall and the booths. The interior lighting could have been lower a bit. The lights hanging over the table could have been dimmed and the main lights and that would have created a much more intimate atmosphere. The Ocean Blvd location: Food is generally good, though on the salty side. The cashier staff are mostly unfriendly and want to nickel and dime you if you need to separate a couple of items in a separate little container (someone doesn't eat cheese or olives for example), and do not honor your coupons; there is no birthday special if you sign up either. ( We can afford to eat there, but it is the principle!) I will not name names but she is quite a "put off" for the restaurant. The manager needs customer service lessons also. Small things that can put a damper on a restaurant that might earn more stars otherwise. The Willow St location: the salad bar is unasanitary!! It sits low and I have seen guys literally speak into the salad. It looks dirty when containers spill over too! I heard the owner speak on radio (KFI) and thought he made a lot of sense and had a nice restaurant group. It just shows, he needs to supervise his staff demeanor at Ocean, and cleanliness at Willow. I am sorry and I mean no harm. I have been a customer since 2020 when I moved to Long Beach and it saddens me to state the above. I usually dine at the location on Ocean Blvd. I came to the Willow location to celebrate a friend and I will say that we had a large group and the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. We were all able to place our individual orders at the cashier and sit together in the back room with no issues. Everyone enjoyed their entrées. I love the food at Buonos I wasn't sure if I would get the same flavors from the other location because of different cooks and ingredients, but the consistency was perfect. I have never been inside the restaurant because I always have ordered through food delivery apps. However I would recommend the linguine gamberi e vongole (shrimp and clams linguine) with white sauce. It's my go to because I love pasta and seafood. Buono's is located off Willow St in Long Beach and it's the community pizza spot. Over the years, I've had it so many times for work lunches and they've been making pizzas for many decades. For work events, their portions and prices are pretty generous and the whole team gets their fill. Their pizza is reminiscent of a mom-and-pop stop. Pastas are filling; however, I can't say I'm a fan. When I get their olive oil-based Fettucine Alfredo, for example, the sauces are almost always broken and the oil soaks through the paper plates we use at work events. If I had to choose my favorite pizza in all of Long Beach, it'd definitely be Buono's (with Pizza x Two being a close runner-up). Both locations on Willow and Ocean have never failed to satisfy my pizza craving. The pizza is doughy, cheesy, and extremely flavorful. Their mozzarella sticks are also the absolute best I've ever had. Super crunchy, cheesy, and simply heavenly. If I wasn't watching the wallet and waistline I'd be dining here more often. Service has always been great and I've never had any complaints or bad experiences over the years. However, I've been to their newer location in San Pedro and I wasn't fond of how they cut up their family-sized pizzas. The LB locations serve the traditional round sized pie whereas the Pedro location will serve a family-size as one of those square pizzas cut up in awkward slices. The wait time that day was also noticeably longer than usual which was also a con. Due to those minor hiccups I'll just be sticking to the original locations. The ambiance and interior on Willow is more of a family-friendly vibe compared to the upscale style of the Buono's on Ocean. I still enjoy dining at both though and don't have a personal favorite as these two locations uphold consistency in their food/service. My go-to order for the fam & I is the family-sized pizza with pep & sausage along with an order of the mozzarella sticks. The chicken parm sandwich is pretty decent as well but nothing necessarily mind-blowing. I occasionally stop by for their lunch buffet that currently runs Wed-Fri from 11am-2pm. Their buffet includes endless pastas, salad and pizza so you'll definitely be getting more bang for your buck. Overall, Buono's is a solid 5/5 and I'd recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

I googled this place. It was supposed to be in the top 10 pizzerias in Long Beach and it's not the salad bar was weak. The portions of food are way too big not much flavor. They charged me $7.00 dollars for two extra meatballs in my spaghetti that I didn't even ask for $31 for a barbecue chicken pizza, medium size was way overpriced.. The service was mediocre at best. I ordered from here through Uber Eats because I was craving Italian and had driven past here lot of times and been curious. I'm so glad I did! I got the lasagna and fettuccini Alfredo. Each dish came with two large pieces of garlic bread. I live alone and the portion sizes have lasted me like six meals. I also thought the prices for the portion sizes were super fair. On top of that, the food is delicious, reheats well, and the ingredients taste fresh. Visited Buono's in Long Beach a few months after returning from Italy. We were delighted to find they carried our favorite wine! It was the Christmas Season and they were offering a Gingerbread Man pizza. I love, love, love Gingerbread men so of course we ordered. Also, we were hoping to catch an NFL game on t.v. That night. Buono's has been around as long as I can remember being in elementary school. It's strange that I never actually ate here until many years later. It's kind of like living close to RMS Queen Mary (that historic ship is great btw) and never setting foot inside the ship until 20+ years later. The restaurant is a low-key, casual place. You have to order at the front and then find seating either on the left side close to the entrance or in the back. I think their best dishes are their pizza and garlic bread. I also like the salad bar when I'm not that hungry. The pasta is good but for me it's comparable to others in the area. I think their staff are attentive as possible and very courteous. My needs are met with no fuss. I find myself going here more because Santa Fe Importers (SFI) has more limited business hours and for some reason I always want Italian comfort food after Santa Fe Importers closes (SFI is another good Italian restaurant/deli for another review--they have different strengths compared to Buono's). read more

I placed my order around 10:50 AM. The driver arrived to pick it up at 11:56 AM, and it still wasn't ready! They told him it would take another 20-plus minutes--a complete lack of manners and disrespect toward others, since the order was supposed to be ready by 11:30 AM at the very latest. The pizzeria was empty, so I ended up waiting another 45 minutes inside the shop. The pizza itself was very thin, with hardly any toppings! All in all, it's not worth the price they charge. Here's a tip: better organization would be a good idea for the employees working the front counter; they don't even say "good morning," nor do they offer a glass of water to make up for a 45-minute wait that went well beyond the promised time! This is my go-to restaurant for pizza! The pizza is fresh, with homemade sauce and plenty of cheese. This visit was a let down. I ordered zucchini and the waitress brought out a plate of burned, overcooked zucchini logs. When I told her they looked burned, she responded, "They are fried zucchini." I still don't know what she meant by that. Plus, they hid the extra burnt pieces in the bottom of the stack Disappointed that Buono's would serve such substandard food. Won't be returning, at least not during "lunch buffet" hours... My 4 year old twins and I walked in at around 1pm on a Friday to try the lunch buffet. The place was slow (only one other table occupied) and there seemed to be one person offering service, which made sense given the volume. Leaning on the counter, he asked me what I'd like and I ordered the buffet for the three of us. He proceeded to ask me how old my kids were, and typed away on the register/kiosk. After asking if we wanted drinks, he then announced the price would be just over $45, to which I raised my eyebrows...but honestly the ambiance suggests a comforting and authentic hole in the wall pizzeria experience. So, I didn't bat an eye, paid the nearly $50 bucks, and sat my kids. Everyone gets salad first, and I immediately noticed that some of the greens were wilted or at the very least oxidated; not a good look. Toppings looked relatively fresh, so we just kept it moving, and it's a buffet, so you can expect things have been sitting for a while. What was odd was that there was only one fork available where the utensils were...very strange considering no one was in the building and the guy behind the counter was literally doing nothing. After finishing my salad I had two (out of 6 available) slices of pizza, pepperoni and sausage. My kids opt for cheese, so once they finished their salads, since there were no cheese slices available, I just grabbed 2 pepperoni slices, and peeled the pepperoni off. The pizza was luke warm; the heat lamps the slices sat under proved to be ineffective. At that point I was resigned. We sat directly in front of the soda dispenser...the coke products out of the fountain were flat; in fact, another lady who came in after us poured herself some coke, sipped it and then turned and shot us a look. I nodded to suggest we were sharing the same experience. To say that I was underwhelmed is an understatement. Having spent $45 dollars on what proved to be a pretty thoughtless experience was more than regrettable. I immediately considered the multiple places we could have gone and have gotten MUCH more for less. Sometimes you learn the hard way. Maybe ordering a pizza fresh or coming during a happy hour is the way to go, but this won't get an opportunity to redeem themselves with me as far as I'm concerned. All in all, I don't recommend, save your money. read more

Looked for a place close by to where I was working for the day and tried their Margherita pizza, salad and drink. Well for one they didn't have straws for my to go cup. ‍ The Caesar salad was good. Thankfully they prepared it with the dressing on the side. Now as far as the pizza... well I'm Italian, so im picky. It was good, but had a heavy garlic taste to it. A bit more cheese than my liking, but for what I purchased @ $41 and we were hungry it wasn't too bad. The service was good. We've eaten at Buono's 4 times in a 2 week period (1 time at Ocean Blvd in LB, 2 times at Willow St in LB, and 1 time at the San Pedro location) bringing family members with me to promote this locally family owned business. We've ordered different kinds of pastas and pizzas and I can guarantee you that you cannot go wrong with any choices you make. My favorite must be the salad bar. They only use quality ingredients that you can taste in every bite. This Willow St location is conveniently located by the freeway. Once you walk in, you're greeted by the cashier. As you walk around the restaurant to find your seat, it feels like you're walking back into history with its pictures posted on the walls. The inside of the restaurant looks clean and kept up. So I ordered Buonos today because I knew I would get exactly what I was in the mood for and boy did they not disappoint today!!! I ordered what I always get angel hair w meat sauce + mushrooms and this time I got the minestrone soup instead of salad which are both delicious... it was all so good to my soul and not to mention the cheese bread that comes with the soup... every bite fed my soul ! it was so good I had to pick up the phone and thank them in addition to this write up which I have left one before (it was just that good).. the truth of the matter is this.. restaurants dont uphold quality and service like they use to unfortunately these days.. they are charging more money for food and less portions and bad service.. this is across the board in the food biz right now sign of the the times BUT I applaud Buonos and urge them to keep their standards high because loyal customers like myself appreciate it very much and we will continue to support your business.. they have remained consistent with portions and taste.. when ordering via postmates they actually take the time to read and honor any requests.. all of this is basic customer service thats not so basic anymore.. We visited Buono's after a long day of entertaining Long Beach activities and they were a good end to a good day. Tried their pizza: The personal pizza is well portioned for even one person with a large appetite. It has a more bready dough, a little crunch on the crust. Good toppings, their sausage appears to be a medium bulk Italian sausage so there's a little spice, better coverage, but is a departure from larger sausages at other pizzerias. Mrs. T had their ravioli alfredo so I was able to try a little of that. The sauteed spinach was a welcome addition, the alfredo and ravioli were both good and rich but I felt it could have used a little something more than the spinach (onion, more fresh garlic) for additional taste variation between alfredo and cheese ravioli. After a long day I was mightily hungry so I tried a couple of their appetizers with the table: Side of meatballs -- the texture was good, the marinara could've used a little more seasoning, but they delivered on what they were -- good tasting balls of meat. For those who fear red sauce it was heavy on the marinara. Garlic bread -- I ordered large to split with Mrs. T thinking it'd be like 4 slices or something as it was about $6. It was practically a bucket of garlic bread (~12 good sized slices) -- thank goodness we came with a total of 6 people. It was lighter than many garlic breads, not too heavy, and the garlic was there though it could've been more pronounced. It was a wonderful scoop for the leftover marinara from the meatballs. All told I was happy with the meal and while I don't know that I'll get the option to visit again just based on geographical distance -- were I a Long Beach resident I would definitely have Buono's in my regular restaurant rotation. read more

We are big fans of local, non-chain, family-owned restaurants, and Buono's is a favorite. We dine in, take out, and order delivery. The pizza and the entrees are great, and when you dine in, the salad bar is awesome. It's so hard to find a salad bar anymore and even harder to find one this good.
