    ITALIAN SANDWICH
    Patty A.

First time customer, not sure if I'll be back. Ordered an Italian sandwich, it was lackluster, not much flavor. My son did love the pepperoni/onion calzone. The staff (Juan & Brandon) were so nice, Brandon even feeds the pigeons that hang out by the door! BTW, the bathroom is Very small, efficient & got the cutest sign above the commode!

Tonight for dinner we decided to skip cooking and go out instead. I've had this pizza place saved on my YELP for a minute now that I had saved from a reel or TikTok video I saw. At first glance we arrived just after 5pm and the place was empty. Good for us since we could sit anywhere we wanted to. Nice decor on the walls. It kinda had the same vibe as Buonos pizza in long beach. An old school authentic new York Italian kinda feel to it. Overall the place was very clean. After looking over the menu we decided to go with a special 18" pizza, chicken wings plain, lasagna, meatball appetizer, and some extra marinara sauce for dipping any crust if needed. Brandon was a one man army tonight and did an amazing job. He practically single handedly had all of our orders ready, hot and on the table in less than an hour. Great job bud. The meatballs i was expecting to be bigger. They were still delicious. The sauce...OMG THE SAUCE! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. It was thick and so homemade kinda flavor. The lasagna was next and it too did not disappoint. Right from the first bite you taste the ricotta cheese. Very hot and filled with flavor. I ordered plain chicken wings because I can't do spicy anymore. They were good. I just wish they had larger orders because I love me some chicken wings . Now the pizza...it was perfect. I could only have two slices it had so much toppings on it. It was just right for this evening's dinner. Still had plenty leftovers for lunch tomorrow . Final call and Overall review...definitely coming back here for some great food. Besides...we still have to try the subs . Highly recommend to anyone looking for good pizza and Italian dishes. Great job Brandon and Juan.

I got the 15" Catalano special pizza. If you love cheese, you'll love this pizza. The ingredients tasted fresh. It had pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms, olives, onions and bell peppers. The owner was very nice and welcoming. I drove about 30 minutes back to San Gabriel Valley and by the time I got home, the pizza was still hot. Before this, I had Thai food at LB Thai food. The pizza was so good that I ate 2 slices and tempted to eat a 3rd slice. The location is in a small plaza next to a Dollar Tree. This is a local mom and pop's hole in the wall pizza joint. Love the interior decorations. The owner is so sweet! I was a little shy, it was freezing in north LB around 8pm on a Saturday night lol.

They block most of the seats so best to do a take out

Mom and pop pizza shop. Friendly owner took our order and was just great we have a small business that is providing good food to the community! They said they were affected by the pandemic but also now it's hard to find waiters in this inflated economy. So most of the seats are blocked with pizza boxes but they are open so don't worry. The catalano's pizza had lots of toppings and the pizza was great. My toddler also liked it (she just picked out the pepperoni). I saw the 24" pizza challenge but I saw the pizza box and can't believe someone actually ate it all!! Actually don't know if they do it any more because most of the seats are closed but you can ask...

So I've been sitting here this morning trying to think of words to describe Catalano's Pizza let me start by saying my friends and I are here from Columbus Ohio that's right Go Bucks and we leave today for our cruise to Cabo so last night we decided early on we would do pizza for dinner so my task is always to research and find the best place to eat at first glance on yelp I knew Catalano's would be my pick but to be fair I still look at a few others and of course read reviews to see what the city had to say about each place after about 2 hours sitting by the pool reading and looking at pics I stayed with my first choice and MAN LET ME TELL YOU hands down absolutely amazing DA BOMB.COM and yes I am certified to say that cause I was born and raised in Chicago and everyone knows we have the best pizza lol when I called I let the gentleman on the phone know we were not from around here so make sure send us the best and when I say they brought their A Game each pies was piping hot the cheese pull on these pizza's had us going crazy each bite the flavors of this deliciousness was like a party on the inside of our mouths then to take it up another notch they sent us this amazing chocolate chip cookie pie on the house with the sweetest special note on it just had us going crazy each bite so if you're in the Long Beach area please please please give this place a try you will not be disappointed thank you to my friends at Catalano's for such an amazing dinner and dessert last night my friends and I were extremely happy by the way we finished it off for breakfast this morning we will back be and you already know where I'm coming!!!

Best meatball sub ... hands down
    larry b.

Went back a week later to try their famous meatball sandwich and I was not disappointed! To be honest, it's a science making a meatball sub and they got it down pat. Their bread is the key and it doesn't get soggy. The meatballs and sauce and the crazy amount of cheese is so delicious!

Stopped by to get a slice of pizza, ended up getting a mini pizza and having a really good conversation with the lady in charge. The lady was very pleasant and friendly, she talked to me about business and the ingredients in their pizzas. I watched her make a pizza. They use a great grade of mozzarella and a good kind of olives. They put the a layer of cheese, they pepperonis, then another layer of cheese. They pizza looks extra cheesy BUT it actually didn't taste to cheesy at all, great flavor. Olives where delicious too. The actual establishment has a lot going on, the setting area is more of a storage area, so pizza to go is definitely a better option. But everything was clean and organized. I enjoyed getting to know a bit about the business and how they made their pizzas, I also really enjoyed the pizza; definitely recommend. #SupportYourNeighborhoodPizzeria

I was coming down carson street and wanted to give this place a try! I ordered the honeycup pizza with mikes hot honey! Pretty good pizza. Pretty pricey for a 12 inch for $26 bucks total but i understand inventory of items goes up as well. THe cheese was good and crust was ok, lacking a bit of flavor still. They share a huge parking lot with the 99-cent store and a donut shop and bixby burgers. No issues parking getting in and out. Very nice people who run this place though and they have a health code A in the window which i like. If you never tried it give it a shot and see what you think.

From the moment you walk in, the vibe is warm, cute, and incredibly welcoming -- the kind of spot that instantly feels like your place. The drinks are on point. I've tried the iced coffee and the matcha, and both were excellent -- not overly sweet, not watered down, just really well done. But what truly won me over? The breakfast sandwiches. I had a croissant sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese, and it was chef's kiss -- fresh, high-quality ingredients, generous portions, and packed with flavor. Not a single corner cut. And the service? Amazing. The staff is attentive, friendly, and genuinely makes you feel taken care of. That kind of hospitality is rare and it absolutely elevates the whole experience. This is officially my new coffee spot, hands down. Whether you're stopping in for a quick coffee or sitting down for a full breakfast, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You won't regret it!

CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING Was looking for a breakfast…read morespot and came across this place. It was about a 20 minute drive from home so I was hoping it was worth it. Walking in the ambiance was regular typical cafe. The customer service was traditionally basic. I ordered for 4ppl and when I arrived home I noticed my order was partially wrong. I ordered 2 bacon avocado toast, 1 avocado toast and a grilled cheese. They forgot the bacon on one of the avocado toast. And 2 of the 4 drinks weren't full. As I mentioned it was about a 20 minute drive so I just took the loss. The taste of the food was ok for 2 of the ppl other 2 ppl one being myself was kind turned off with the missing bacon and half full drinks so I basically trashed my meal. I'm aware humans make mistakes but that alone doesn't make me want to rush back to this location. I do want to mention something good about this place I did like how they dressed up the avocado toast with the egg on the side.

It's located in Bixby Knolls, surrounded by coffee shops, restaurants, bars and breweries, yet it's the only true wine bar right there. There is seating indoors and outdoors. It's minimal, but somehow we always manage to find a table. The service is consistently great and the owner is wonderful. She will be leaving soon and she will absolutely be missed, but what she has built here will definitely be cherished. I wasn't in a beer-drinking mood so I didn't look too closely at the list. I love it when restaurants support local brewers, and this looks like the kind of place that would do just that.

Heard about Dilly's Sandwiches having the most unique rotating set of beers on tap in Long Beach,…read moreso had to come to try it. The taste portions were very reasonably priced, allowing to create your own flight (or two). Specifically scheduled an early afternoon to come to the Lakewood Village neighborhood of East Long Beach. My wife found an angled parking spot right in front. It wasn't too crowded inside and the four of us found easy, comfortable seating in the brightly decorated dining room. One places and pays for the order at the counter, with the proprietors being very friendly and engaged. They brought out our beers after the pour, and the sandwiches a bit after (since each is individually carefully made). Beers: - Northern Lager [Oxbow] - ($5 for 13oz pour) was clean, crisp and a hoppy aftertaste. - Infinite Hotel [The Wayfinder X Bierstadt] (marked as $3 but charged $4) is a rice lager and was the favorite of the group for its drinkability - Winteruption [JK's Farmhouse] ($3) is a cider with very strong maple syrup overtones: never tasted anything like it. - Hyper Paradise [Rare Barrel] ($4) - saison and ale with mango and passion fruit. I liked this beer very much. - A Place Like Home [Pure Project] ($3) - Nitro poured Extra Special Bitter. - Double Negative [Grimm] ($4) - Imperial Stout, which I really enjoyed. - Amongst Friends [Sante Adairius] ($4) - a cherry saison, unusual and was glad to sample. A lot of work was put into creating this flight, with the careful pours and markings to make sure I knew what was what. I really appreciated the opportunity to sample all of these on-tap. In terms of the food, the group as a whole really liked them, though I guess I wasn't as impressed with my two samples, mainly because it used non-descript deli meat in OK quantities, heating them up when necessary. Hot Beef ($18) was my wife's, and it had been griddled with cheese to form a crispy lattice. The Ham and Cheese ($16) was served cold and had potato chips inside which my mother-in-law liked (saving the other half for home). Our friend and I split the Hot Turkey ($16) and Pastrami No 19 style ($20). The pastrami meat was piled high and the cole slaw was crisp and good, but was served cold (should have read the description more closely) and mediocre rye bread broke apart quickly. The Hot Turkey ($16) was served on ciabatta that had been grill pressed for a long time, creating a wonderful crust as good as any sandwich I've had. But the filling was OK, using standard turkey breast slices from a loaf and an ok stuffing...using hand carved turkey would have made a big difference here, but understand it's hard to do. Strangely, even though it's a pickle adorned shop, each sandwich just came with an ordinary pickle spear, what one would expect from a diner, not a deli. And the prices are on the higher side, especially with no sides and most not being particularly ginormous. But I loved how each sandwich used different breads, and how some of them were toasted very well. And having the opportunity to try these unique beers made it a really good experience.

It was a nice addition to the mini food court in Long Beach, but unfortunately, times got tough for them to the point where they had to pull the plug on their operations. I Luv Ur Buns was one of seven vendors at Steelcraft Long Beach on the southeast corner of Long Beach and Bixby. They had taken over the spot that used to be Waffle Love, and it was such a quick turnaround that on my first visit to Steelcraft Long Beach since the Waffle Love closure, I almost thought they seamlessly rebranded from waffles to bao buns lol. Signage was posted around the shipping container assigned to I Luv Ur Buns and even a signicade closer to Steelhead Coffee; the signs informed customers that they were closing and that the Sunday preceding Martin Luther King Jr Day would be their last day of business, which also happened to be the same day the LA Rams were playing in the NFC Divisional Round of the playoffs, so I almost thought Steelcraft would be jam-packed. Actually, no it wasn't even that busy, and there were several parking spots available just around Steelcraft. I definitely wanted to try a bao bun, but not a full dinner, so that left me with the two Global Flavors sections of the menu. One section was titled "Global Flavors on Bao Buns" where you basically get two bao buns. Don't think these bao buns are large by any means; I tried a couple at Sosogu sometime last year, and they're not that big either. They would have been the perfect size for a snack, but I was also curious about the other Global Flavors section, titled "Global Flavors with Rice or Fries". That section only has two line items: Mini Bowls and Loaded Fries. I didn't want fries, but when I asked about a Mini Bowl, I was informed that it was a deconstructed version of a bao bun with a small mound of rice. Wanting a little more variety, I went with the Bao Mi Mini Bowl. The menu did get a little confusing for me because I had noticed the (V), which usually stands for either vegan or vegetarian. However, they had several non-vegetarian items with (V), and that had me confused at first; like how is a bao bun with grilled pork belly vegetarian?? That's when the cashier, sporting a black nose ring, let me know that it can be ordered with a plant-based option, namely tofu. However, the cashier also mentioned the use of a shared fryer between their plant-based options and their regular options, so if you were strictly vegan, I'd think twice first. I asked how long the wait would be, and they estimated 10 minutes, which was pretty much spot on. I was given a pager that buzzed when my order was ready, and since there was plenty of space for me to eat, I was given a red tray with an "I Luv Ur Buns" sticker in the middle. The mini bowl was presented on a small tray, like one you'd use when you're giving out samples at a special event. I was also given a fork, which was another reason why I ordered a Mini Bowl over two bao buns as I wanted to keep my hands clean. Besides the grilled pork belly, the Bao Mi also comes with hoisin sauce, cucumber, jalapeno, onion, and cilantro. All of what I just mentioned tasted pretty good, though not necessarily as good as what I had at Sosogu last year. Then again, the Bao Mi is Vietnamese-style whereas Sosogu is Japanese, but between the two, which are the two cheapest options at $10, the Bao Mi was the most popular alongside their Korean-style, called Seoul on Fire. I'm pretty sure I would have liked Seoul on Fire better as it comes with Bulgogi beef, but the grilled pork belly was pretty good too. Just not as fatty as I would have liked. However, I didn't like their use of a wrapping paper between the tray and the food. That's because several grains of rice got stuck on the wrapping paper, and it was hard to pluck them off with my fork. As a result, it got kind of messy eating the mini bowl, and I almost thought I'd drop a piece of pork belly in the process! Luckily, I didn't, but I don't think that would be a problem with the bao buns since the bao bun from my mini bowl didn't stick to the wrapping paper at all. One thing I observed that I thought was kind of cool was witnessing the cashier hand deliver a tray of bao buns to an employee from Elio's Wood Fire Pizza, directly across from I Luv Ur Buns. I wouldn't say I love I Luv Ur Buns, but it made for a nice quick snack albeit a little pricey for a small bowl. I'm glad I gave them a try before they closed for good, and I made sure to bid them a proper adieu by returning the tray to them. They also had a small tray of I Luv Ur Buns stickers by their order window, so I made sure to pick up a couple as souvenirs. Thank you I Luv Ur Buns for serving the LBC for the past couple years, and sorry to see you go! Best wishes to Sonya, Mandy, and the rest of the team on their future endeavors.
