Went here for a birthday celebration and food was good. Service was slow though

Went to Stoney River last night with another couple. We normally have a very nice dinner there. Unfortunately, this time was not nearly as good. First, I requested a seat in the bar area on my reservation because the other side is substantially louder. There was no attempt to put us there. After being seated, it took awhile for our waitress to come. I ordered a particular scotch, which she said they had. She brought me something different. It was pretty good but not what I ordered. Must not have heard what I said or doesn't know scotches. She came back with the drinks and lined them up in front of the wrong person. Told us about a great Grouper special. Went away for nearly 20 minutes. Finally came back to take our orders, only to tell us the grouper was gone and replaced with haddock. 40 minutes later our food arrived. My rib eye had a big chunk of unmelted butter on it. Now I like melted butter on my steak. You guessed it, the steak was not hot. Our friend's prime rib was also lukewarm. Had the broccoli as a side and had a distinctive onion flavor which for me made them inedible. My wife's sea bass was good. Overall, the meal was a little over an hour and a half. I hope this is a one time thing. Lots of other great restaurants up the Big Beaver trek. read more

What a nice restaurant! I ordered the pecan trout with the garlic mash and broccoli. With the exception of the broccoli, everything was delicious. The broccoli was flavorful, but appeared to be slightly undercooked. The bread that's served before the entrees arrived was sooo good! I've never had anything like it. The bread reminded me of donuts. Our server was excellent and our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time. The atmosphere was really great as well. Horrible experience for Daughters 21st birthday dinner. Made reservations for 7 people and two extra showed, Manager wouldn't accommodate us with the two extra people and insisted that we sit at different separate tables ( the restaurant was about 50% full on a Sunday at 6:00 pm). When asked if we could put two empty tables together we were refused (Manager lied and said that all the tables were reserved and that they don't move tables for anyone) then she publicly chastises for not planning better. For the price of the food (Nothing to brag about) one would thing that they would not want to lose a large party of 9 people but that was not the case. For the record, the tables that we asked to move together were vacant the entire meal, it seem that the manager likes to lie about reservations. We will definitely not return or recommend this place to anyone. read more

Food and service was EXCELLENT! Deviled egg appetizer was delicious and got 6 large eggs for $9, so price was reasonable. Fillet minion was cooked perfectly medium rare and Parmesan fries and asparagus were also very good. I thought that price for food and drinks were very reasonable and restaurant had lots indoor and outdoor seating. Would definitely recommend! read more

The food is amazing. The atmosphere is really nice. It's perfect if you want to dress down but also amazing if you want to have an elegant night on the town. The appetizers are awesome and the steak choices are great. I would recommend for a first date or a family dinner.. read more

My wife and I were celebrating an anniversary and this place had come highly recommended by a colleague of mine. I figured, why not give it a shot? Well, I can tell you plenty of reasons why not! I'll begin by stating that we waiting about 10 minutes to be greeted. Finally, a boy named Tamner stumbled over with what looked like tears in his eyes and noticeably filthy shoes. I don't know if he possibly stepped out for a cigarette and crying break and got his shoes dirty? He couldn't have been less friendly. He breath smelled like cigarettes even through his sideways mask. He was disgusting. I asked what the evening's featured fish was and he began fumbling through his notebook. After a few minutes, he said "yeah lemme go check on that, boss". My wife and I didn't know if we should laugh, get up and leave, or both. I flagged down a young lady and asked for bread, because I knew we were in for a long, painful evening devoid of service from Tamner. The young lady returned with the bread before Tamner returned to share the feature with us. FINALLY, Tamner returned and said "sword chimmy cauliflower". My wife and I had no idea what the hell this meant. We guessed he didn't either, so we thanked him for his due diligence and said we needed a couple minutes with the menu, but asked him not to go far, as we feared he may need to go out for another cigarette and crying session. He then brought us bread though we hadn't yet touched the basket the young lady brought us. He apparently hadn't noticed it on the table when he gave his award-winning description of the feature of the night. Better yet, when he saw the bread he said "oh damn someone already brought you bread, well here's more" set the bread down and left the table. Perhaps the tears in his eyes had clouded his vision. We placed our order. Tamner asked me if I wanted my ribeye that I ordered Medium to be butterflied. I could barely keep a straight face when I responded by saying "no thank you" My wife asked what would pair nicely with her seabass and he replied with "do you like coke or sprite?" We were actually looking for a WINE pairing. He got our side dishes wrong. I asked for the smoked gouda mac n cheese. It came with mashed potatoes. My wife asked for asparagus. It came with spinach. We didn't mention the incorrect sides as we were less than enthused by his service so far. The food was good. The mashed potatoes and spinach, too. The place itself had nice ambiance, the food, like I said, was good. The service, however, was absolutely atrocious. read more

Was there on a Saturday night with my girlfriend. Place was packed! Had to wait about 45 minutes because we didn't have a reservation, not a surprise for a new restaurant. The place is on the dark side but nicely decorated. We ordered the devil eggs which were good and the Thai salad which was good. We had 6 different waiters coming to our table which I thought was strange instead of having just one. They didn't have moscato which my girlfriend drinks and no regular coffee just French press roast. We ordered prime rib and baked potatoes but they got it wrong 3 times. They kept giving us steaks and mash potatoes. The manager and assistant manager then came over to make sure everything came back right. The food was good when we got it. The manager comped the meal because of what happened. The employees there are really trying hard and are very friendly. The food is good. Like all new restaurants it will take time to iron out all the kinks which I know they will. I see they are putting in A LOT of effort. We will be back again and so should you. read more

Our first time there (3 people) and we all loved it. We had 3pm reservations on a Sunday and was seated right away. We ordered three different entrees and starters and all were superb! The service, ambiance and even the smell of the food upon our arrival was superb and very inviting. We will definitely come back and have already recommended to others. Our server tonight said the legendary filet was "more like a New York Strip," and "she's not sure why it says filet on the menu." Being as I'm not a fan of NY's I didn't order it. Had I known it was an ACTUAL filet I would have. We also ordered the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer, which we were eating lightly while conversing. When our dinners came, the person who ran our food took our FULL spinach dip off the table without asking if we were still working on it/wanted a box. I got her attention and said we wanted to keep the appetizer on the table, but she just looked at me and walked away. I figured maybe she was boxing it for us but we never saw it again. read more

Sat at the bar. Service was decent. The lobster bisque was great as were the rolls. The crab cake was also very good. Ordered the 22oz ribeye medium and it came out charred on one side. Sent it back and talked to the manager. She agreed it was a little charred but said some people like that. Second steak came out and still had charred area. Spoke to her again and she said it looks like a perfectly good steak, that is how they make them. Never had a medium rare steak charred. They did take it off our bill but then I felt like the service went down hill. Felt like no one wanted to wait on us. We weren't mean about it. We've been to quite a few steakhouses, some more expensive and never had a steak like that. We won't be back even for the lobster bisque. read more

Outstanding menu and service. I've seen more menu selections at some restaurants, but this menu is so robust it will keep you coming back for more. Good selection of beef (they cut their own in-house) and entree salads. Most of the menu items describe the ingredients in detail which makes it easer for the customer to decide what to order. I recommend Steak Rolls for the appetizer, Carrot Cake for dessert and anything else in between. read more

This was the worst service experience we've had in a long time. We were headed to Yard House, but traffic was clogged up and we were driving by here. I have wanted to try it for a while and my husband was finally open to it because the alternative was to sit in traffic for 10 minutes to make it a mile more to Yard House. We went in at about 3:25 on a Saturday afternoon and were seated at a booth in the bar. The server/bartender wasn't very friendly and didn't seem to care for my husband. (He thinks he's funny.) Our food came and it was pretty good. The mac n cheese side was awesome. We asked for refills on pop and when she brought them, I asked about straws. She said they don't give them unless they are requested, so I asked her for some straws. She said she would be right back and she never came back to our table again. I needed to order more food for my son, but she never came back. We finished our meals, workers came to take our dishes away and brought boxes. She was behind the bar and we were waiting for her and waiting, but she never made eye contact or walked by our table again. After a while, she seemed to have left as we didn't see her at all any more. At this point, I promised my son we would stop by McDonald's so that we could make sure he got enough to eat. We would have probably ordered dessert if anyone had been interested in serving our table. By the time I decided to get up to ask for our bill, there was no one around - not even behind the bar. I went up to the hostess stand and asked one of them for the check. She managed to find someone and they dropped it off. I was really disappointed by this experience. It was our first visit to this restaurant. I hate cooking and I am bad at it, so we eat out all of the time. My son has autism and he doesn't like very many places, so when we find a place he is good with, it's very exciting for us because we only go to the places that he doesn't have a meltdown at when we pull into the parking lot. He liked this place and he doesn't like many places. I would love to have this place to come to instead of Coney Island (one of his faves that I am so sick of), but I have my pride. I expect good service at minimum when I go to this type of restaurant. I was frankly insulted by the disregard that we were treated with. The managers were walking around in suits, but no one cares about service and the customers are treated like furniture. This place is pretty, has nice ambiance, and the food is promising, but the staff is cold -- disturbingly cold. I can't remember the last time I had service this bad. Yard House, Bone Fish, Capital Grille, and Maggiano's are a little farther west on Big Beaver. All have a pleasant ambiance, good food, and good service. I wish we had sat through the traffic to go to one of those places instead. Troy has an amazing variety of great restaurants to choose from. You don't have to settle for insulting service at Stoney River. read more

The service was sublime and my waitress was very lovely and courteous. However, the food was subpar. The Parmesan fries were dry and unpleasant. My husband was not impressed in the slightest by his steak, my son thought his burger was just okay, and my fish (yes, I know this is a steakhouse) was not something I would recommend. Went for lunch. Had a Kale Salad and Lobster Bisque combo. It was excellent! Rolls with honey butter were also delicious. Co-workers has burgers which they said were good. I would recommend business casual attire. Staff was very attentive. I highly recommend this place. read more

This review is for the restaurant on Big Beaver Road in Troy, Michigan. Visited once before and could not eat ickey grey and watery side of scalloped potatoes. Decided to give it another try on 9/22/21 for dinner with a friend. The soup was ok. Ordered hot Earl Grey tea, and was served some off beat herbal tea which was not Earl Grey and bitter. Order a house specialty for main dish, and the french fries were good. However, the meat was old and smelly and could not be eaten at all. It ruined the rest of the dish. Ordered another specialty steak for my companion, and it was not edible, and did not taste like the menu description. Staff noticed that we were not eating meal, and asked if they could get us another dish, which I declined. I had had enough, and then they sent me a bill for FULL PRICE for two rotten meals. My Advice: never go there. I will not be returning ever. There are many places to eat better than this within one mile. read more

Very nice atmosphere, good service. Excellent mini biscuits served with huge amount of sweetened butter (maybe serve more than one biscuit per person). Tasty pecan encrusted trout, properly cooked. Rice tasted like Rice-a-Roni, served slightly warm, al dente green beans, served excessively al dente. Salmon mildly over cooked, didn't taste fresh, thin end tasted fishy. This dish was also served with the uninspired rice. Third visit, not in a rush to return. read more

This is the first time I have written a review on a restaurant. We had dinner tonight and it was wonderful so I felt the need to do so. The attention we received was unlike we have had in a long time. Elina was our waitress and she checked in us to make sure we didn't anything at all the right time. Management came around to make sure of the same. We had the tuna, sea bass and fish of the day. All were fantastic and we will be sure to visit again. The rolls with cinnamon are yummy along with the carrot cake. You won't be disappointed. read more

its a very nice restaurant as far as the look but i was there from 6:30-9:00 they didn't ask if we wanted water .! i order a salad and we I got it it wasn't the right salad sent it back and by the time they came back out without my salad everyone was don't with their food mind you my salad never came so i did not eat !!!! they had more wine on the menu than food ! don't think ill ever go back read more

Very average. Nice server, however, food was subpar at best. Steak was nothing special...if anything lacking flavor. Took 25 minutes to get a bread basket, and when it came they tasted like donuts. Not something you'd want to eat before a meal. We also ordered a carrot cake, took a few bites and boxed the rest. When we got home we realized our server didn't put our carrot cake in our bag. read more

I was visiting from out of town with my son when we drove by and decided to stop in. We went for lunch and liked it so much we returned 2 days later for dinner. The restaurant was spacious, well designed with tables spaced far enough apart that you did not overhear the conversation of the people next to you. At lunchtime the restaurant was full mostly with business people, and some small groups. We ordered the tuna stack to share as an appetizer which was fresh, beautifully plated and delicious. As an entree, I really enjoyed the Thai chicken salad. The dressing was light and the salad was a good-sized entree portion. My son had chicken fingers which surpringly are on the list of entrees. The pieces of chicken were served with delicious Cole slaw. The chicken pieces were huge, either fried with coconut oil or breaded with coconut flakes. They were not greasy. When we returned for dinner the restaurant was packed. Luckily we arrived early and got a pleasant table by the window. Again, we shared the tuna stack as an appetizer. The portion is plenty for 2 people. I had the crab cake as an entree which was tender and delicious. My son chose the seared Ahi entree. The Ahi was seared nicely and the fish was flavorful. The dish could have used some acid on the plate, so we asked for some limes to give it the acid it needed. For dessert we went for the sundae. It was good, but not great. The hot fudge was thin and tasted syrupy from a can flavor. The Carmel was thick and faired better than the fudge. The staff was Very caring and attentive. Our waitress Carisa L could not have been nicer. We left very content and would definitely return when back in Detroit. read more

Very disappointed. My fiance and I went back for our anniversary at the beginning of January and had a very poor experience. I updated my last review with said experience, explaining how our food was late, not cooked to taste, our waitress lost our money (but did eventually find it), and how management never talked to us about it. The General Manager reached out to me the day after apologizing for the experience and offered a gift card. In return, I offered to take down the poor review, to which the manager accepted. However, the gift card never came. I've waited over a month and contacted the manager two different times. The manager responded once and said "the mail came late and i believe your card got sent out last week" and asked me to say if we didn't receive it. I told the manager again the week after that we still had not received it. I even offered to go pick it up myself, but was ignored. I decided to wait a few weeks before posting this because I thought it could have been an honest mistake, but after such a bad experience not only with their service staff, but then also with the manager, I felt I needed to share. I really hope something changes because we loved our first experience, but I can't ignore the way we've been treated by them recently. read more
