My quest for the best burger continued when I got this the other day for takeout. I ordered the HP burger and added the bacon; came with a side of fries. Value was good; about $20 for a burger and fries in this location is pretty hard to beat. The burger was delicious. High quality meat that was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. No complaints on the meat. The bacon was awesome. They should really just call it pork belly because that's what it is, but nice flavor and no giant chunks of inedible fat which means it was cooked to perfection. The sauce was like a pickle mayo combo; very nice. The fries were solid. They could have been a bit crispier, but hey were adequately salted which was great. Decent portion on them as well. Overall, this is a top tier burger on par with some of the big boys you think of when it comes to who has the best burger in the area. The service is definitely a joke. I actually thought camera's were going to come out and say "gotchya". 1. I order carry out: Chicken Milanese $31 + extra side of sauce $2. Extra half dozen pretzel sticks $6.50 easy enough. That was literally it. 2. I walk in, male bored out of his mind hostess can barely get the strength to say hello. I explain that I placed a carry out. He goes to the room behind him and grabs a bag and hands it to me and says enjoy. 3. I always check my carry out. It's always wrong but really how wrong can a dish with no modifications except extra sauce and order of pretzel bread go wrong? 4. It went wrong. In the bag ready for me to leave and be disappointed was just the Chicken Milanese... all by its self. Where is the bread you get with the dish? More importantly where is the 6 pieces of pretzel bread I stupidly paid 6.50 for?? Where is my butter... where is the extra sauce I paid $2... 5. I went back up to him and said...like an idiot I paid 6.50 for extra bread, so where is it?? He was really confused about their menu and what I was asking for. He said I'll take the bag to the kitchen.. I said "you can get the bread and sauce I can keep the bag" he said they want proof it wasn't in there.. lmao. Weird but I'm standing in front of you while I was checking it. 6. Gave him the bag. He came back with bread rolls and 3 pretzels sticks.. I looked at him and said.. buddy this is the bread that should have come with it in the first place. This isn't the pretzels I paid extra for. He was confused again.. slowly walked to the back that I aged 5 years. He came back with the pretzels I paid for.. but still, sadly, no extra sauce. But they did give me mayo instead of butter... just noticed it lol 7. I asked for a manager. Manager came and I said I asked for extra sauce and I got these two dinky half filled containers that make up one sauce anyway. He said usually it comes with one and you got two.. I gave him a look that made him run back and grab me a third. He acted like he was doing me favor. Manager guy: I paid $41 for chicken extra sauce and pretzel bread.... Don't embarrass the brand or yourself by trying to convince me about extra sauce. Anyway.. long story long, their team sucks. I really wanted to like this place, but our experience was honestly awful from start to finish. We had a party of six with reservations, and although they seated us quickly (which was nice) and our server was incredibly sweet, the rest of the night was a mess. The service was extremely slow and disorganized, and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. Our soup came out lukewarm--not warm, not hot, actually lukewarm. My friend who also ordered it confirmed hers was the same. They reheated it, but even the second attempt still wasn't hot. From there, it only got worse. We waited over 2.5 hours before our entrées arrived. People who were seated after us ate their food and left before we even saw our meals. When the steaks finally came, they were completely wrong. I ordered a medium-plus filet, and it arrived basically raw. My friend ordered medium rare and received something closer to medium well. We sent them back thinking maybe they got mixed up. Nope. The second attempt was still raw inside. I couldn't eat it. My friend's steak was also wrong. It was honestly unbelievable for a restaurant at this price point. A manager did come over once and said he'd return after we cut into the steaks again--but he never came back. We even asked again later for a manager, and nobody ever showed up. Our server was kind and apologetic, and I truly don't blame her. But the kitchen and the management were a complete failure that night. Even simple things were slow: the cappuccino at the end took 15 minutes despite the restaurant not being busy for a Friday. They did compensate some things, which we appreciated, but the night was supposed to be a holiday treat from friends and it ended up being a long, disappointing experience that none of us would repeat. We celebrated my son's birthday here last year later on a Sunday evening. We were seated near the kitchen even though the restaurant was not busy. The staff raced us out, took un empty plates before we were finished, and the dishwashing staff were banging g the pots and pans incredibly loudly. For a $600 meal, we were disgusted upon leaving. Alex/Alexis is an EXCEPTIONAL waitress. She was very detailed on the menu, friendly, attentive to the table, listened about food allergies. We were all very pleased with the service! So much so that we only want her going forward. The food was ok. My hubby had the Japanese Waygu where the chef came out to explain and show the steak along with presenting my hubby with a certificate of authenticity. My sister and I had filets which were def overdone. We both asked for medium and received well done. She had hers recooked and I just kept mine. The ambiance and the decor are fabulous. First time at HP. The Pros: it's a steak house with a broad, but typical menu. They have a reservation system. That's where the good ends. The steak was average at best. My petit filet was tough, and not a great cut - which petit filet is supposed to be very tender. My husbands NY strip was also not a great cut of meat. But where HP fails is in service. Our waiter was inattentive (had to ask for beverages to be brought to the table 4 separate times, and we sat for waiting to request our bill for 27 minutes). The valet situation is abysmal; also inattentive, didn't open my door for me when the car was returned, it took 17 minutes for our car to be returned, and when we arrived they asked us to park our car ourselves then they would re-park it. The bathrooms are disgusting, paper towel everywhere on the floors, counters covered in water. Basically, we will not be coming back to experience such horrible service. This place is pretty high-end and you will certainly pay for that. Food for the most part was very good but way too pricey IMO. Price is the only reason for the 4/5 stars here - I want to be clear. The appetizers were pretty awesome - Thick Cut Bacon (oh my), the Calamari, as well as the Lobster Bisque. My steak dinner was a special - bourbon soaked filet. It was OK, but not great. I felt the flavor was a little off (and I love bourbon). Dessert was Bananas Foster. This was a very delicious show. Steaks are outstanding! Burger is delicious and filling. Side portions are big enough to split for 3-4. Brussel sprouts were very good- not overfried like many places serve it, here it doesn't feel greasy. Gruyère cheese potatoes are the best side dish ever! Try it! Pork chops were cooked just right with excellent flavor. And when you think there is no room for dessert- make some! The most magical night! Thank you to Kelsey for making our FIRST marriage anniversary so special. We had ZERO expectations and almost canceled our reservation to just have takeout at home. My husband and I were welcomed by the most incredible hosts and led to our table that was covered in rose petals, accommodated by a lovely note signed by the entire staff. Kelsey treated us like royalty and ensured we were enjoying our experience the entire time. We cannot wait for our next anniversary so that we can experience it all again! Went in on a chill Monday night and had the best time. The space was cozy and I promise it was the best steak I ever had. I ordered a 6oz filet mignon and it was perfect. Also ordered asparagus, potatoes and a nice tasting cocktail as well. Our waitress Kay was super helpful with helping decide what to order. What a gem in downtown Birmigham! This place is always great as a date night and delivers a consistent food and service (I've been here several times). Hyde Park Wedge Salad- The smoked bacon and candied pecans give this a nice crunch. It's a typical wedge salad otherwise. You can order the dressing on the side as a protip if you want to control how much you want on the salad. Ribeye Steak- The crust on this was incredible. It was well seasoned and didn't require anything else. The cut itself is a fattier cut, but my portion had a good balance of meat to fat. The onion straws were nice as well. Sauteed asparagus- The olive oil wasn't particularly high quality (it didn't have the grassy, peppery flavor of good quality olive oil) but the parmesan saved it because, hey, who doesn't like cheese?! Potatoes gratin gruyere- Very rich and heavy. I couldn't really eat much of this because it was just so unctious. They were good the next day as leftovers! We were 1 of 3 tables in the bar area. The service was a 3/10 at best. Just two of us and ordered a Casaer with salmon and my colleague a steak med rare, I got a chicken casaer and his steak bordered on over cooked let alone well done. Appetizers came at different times and they brought me salmon on a separate plate after I was done with my wrong chicken casaer. Since it was our first visit to Hyde Park he kindly provided an introduction to menu & answered all of our questions regarding event planning. Our server was terrific as well, she was very nice & very professional. Wine markup is extremely high, almost double what I pay at other high end steakhouses for same bottle. My friends steak was prepared perfectly but my steak was far too raw, we both ordered medium rare. I sent mine back for additional cooking however, it came back just as rare & not edible. Went recently for my partners birthday bc he loves the colossal carrot cake. The service was not what we've experienced in the past at this location or others in different states. The hostess was rude and acted like we didn't belong. Then we were sat in a section that seemed like they were seating people who didn't "belong". All the POC, an overly casual family with a crying baby, etc. It was redlining 101. Service was just ok. Our server was friendly but did not check on us regularly and one of our dishes (au gratin potatoes) was never brought out. This happened to the table next to us as well. Also the tables in this section were very close to each other so you could hear everyone's conversation. What was planned as an intimate birthday dinner was disappointing at best. Extremely displeased with the service. We were very excited to go to Hyde Park for dessert and a drink after dinner in the area last night. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very rude male hostess. My husband asked where the restroom was at arrival and he made no effort to show where it was. While we were being seated, my husband went to the restroom and the hostess continued to make very rude comments about how he was going to show us when he took us to the table and seemed like he wanted to fight with me about it. When I told him he never told us that, he went off on us. He must hate his job. Once we were seated, we had a bad taste in our mouth and left. We ended up going to 220, which was great! read more

The seafood platter was delicious and filled with lobster, shrimp and crab. It usually has oysters but they were out so they added more of everything else. But for the apps, my favorite was the bacon. The glaze on top was so good and the bacon melted in your mouth. The steak was also tasty and cooked very well. For dessert, the red velvet cake on its own was okay but what made it great was the chocolate sauce served with it. I could just eat the chocolate sauce. The service was great! Our waiter was very attentive and explained everything on the menu. He also gave us background on items on the menu too. Hyde Park is quite established, with multiple locations across the country. However, this is my first time trying it, and we had a very satisfactory experience. The ambiance was excellent. It would be a perfect place for a date night, a small celebration, or even a work meeting. However, given the more quiet nature of the establishment, it may not be a first option for having dinner with young kids. Regardless, the service was excellent. They checked on us at the right pace, and the food came at the right time. Plus, the staff gave good recommendations and explained the menu well. We tried Steak Yzerman, a 40 oz Tomahawk (bone counted), and a feature of the day, a 26 oz Bourbon-marinated 41-day dry-aged steak. For sides, we got the roasted brussel sprouts cooked with bacon marmalade. The steak came out medium rare, as requested. One thing I have to note is that the sear on the steak was excellent. It has such a nice crust! To me, the steak is already well seasoned, but others prefer a little bit more salt and pepper. In addition, the meat is very slightly less tender than expected. It's still delicious, though! They have fried onion on the side. The Brussels sprouts were very well cooked, and the bacon marmalade was so indulgent. It didn't make a healthy side, but it sure was scrumptious. On a side note, their bread basket was excellent! I love the soft, warm pretzel sticks and the ciabatta. Overall, the food tasted great. Next was the ceasar salad, and it was tasty, however, the croutons served along side in a silver vessel, made it one of the best Caesar's I have had! I'm not a fan of most croutons, crunchy stale bread. These, however, are on another level. Slightly crisp exterior into a soft core & lightly seasoned. I bit into the first one, to try, & emptied the rest onto my salad. They are known for steak, and the petite filet did not disappoint. I requested medium and the temp was perfect. Mashed potatoes were good & creamy, nothing extraordinary, and went well with the filet. My associate enjoyed her cauliflower steak. I'm not a cauliflower fan, but the tomato based sauce was quite good. Same for the lobster bisque. They serve large pieces of lobster & place them in the bisque at the table. I had a very positive experience on a crowded night because the staff went out of their way to rearrange seating with what appeared to be smaller end tables near one of the couches. Hyde Park, in the middle of high end Birmingham, is a throwback with its old-fashioned steak house decor, plush furniture and decorative, low-level lighting. Even the menu is extra large and heavy with fancy fonts - can't go wrong with fancy fonts. They certainly know what they're doing when it comes to setting the right tone... Caesar Salad - with chopped anchovies - yummmm! Dressing a little over done, as I remember it. Cabrera Ribeye - 22 oz., bone-in, heavily marbled, maybe too much? A steak for one of our dining companians was overdone and we had to send it back, but servers very accommodating and quick to recover. The steak was not the best I've had, but solid effort. Potatoes Gruyere Gratin - Love au gratin, and they know how to stack the levels really high - super yummy and super filling. I just love how the edges are slightly burnt. Sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms - a great accompaniment to steak and slightly removes the guilt of not eating anything healthy. Warm Butter Cake with Bananas Foster - exciting flambe right at your table, you get your money's worth! The sliced bananas are soaking in a shallow pool of caramel sugar sauce. I came here on Saturday night to celebrate my birthday. The restaurant was accommodating and let us push our reservation a half an hour without issue. The place was packed at 8:30pm. We had a great meal and our server was very attentive. My only complaint is that our steaks took a super long time to come out. We were waiting a very long time after our lobster app, bread basket and Caesar salad for our entrees. The waiter realized and said he was sorry but didn't do anything to speed it up. By this time, the restaurant had emptied out. When the steaks came out, that we had waited so long for, they weren't even hot. Almost like they had been done for a while. Also, I had a free dessert for my birthday and I told the waiter. He brought the dessert menu and I picked a dessert out. He failed to tell me that the desserts on the menu are not complimentary, that it is a separate dessert that was free. So we ended up with 2 different desserts, which I wouldn't have done if I knew the ones on the menu didn't count. Heads up. Despite all of this, the vibes are right here. read more

We shared appetizers - carpaccio (my fav), shrimp cocktail, lobster tall cocktail, and onesterà on the shell, all good. The meat specula of the night was a bone-in ribeye, marinated for 40 days and soaked in bourbon for 5 (if I remember correctly). At only $59 and considering the establishment reputation, it was excellent. As far as chain steakhouses go (on the to-go bag they list all the locations+sister restaurants they have throughout MI/OH), Hyde Park is true to the two star description of "Meh. I've Experienced Better." We came as a large group for Restaurant Week & our server, Nick, was FANTASTIC. But, the great service didn't make up for the mediocre food. I had/tried: *Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (Red pepper aioli, spicy mustard sauce) - 1 big crab cake! The sauces were good. Thought there was a bit too much celery flavor/seasoning. *Tomato Bisque: I drank it all, but it leaned a bit salty & I've had better. *Filet Mignon: In case you're sensitive to gluten -- apparently their proprietary seasoning blend has trace gluten (maybe soy sauce??) But anyways, I just wasn't impressed. Felt a bit overcooked for medium rare. I made my own filet earlier in the week that I felt was much better. Yikes. *Spinach/Garlic: A bit oily. Very garlicky though. Mm! *Cheesecake: I'm not fussy when it comes to cheesecake. Texture was right & it tasted like a cheesecake. *Flourless Torte: This baby is like a hunk of fudge! It's VERY rich. 4 years later so it's time to update this review! The food is still fabulous here. I went with a group of 9 Yelpers tonight for Birmingham Restaurant Week. They haven't changed the menu much in the past four years, so I decided to switch it up and order a different appetizer and dessert. Their bread basket here is also still fabulous - besides your normal rolls, they also had soft pretzels sticks and some sort of "everything bagel" type of cracker. For my first course, I had the wedge salad, but I don't like blue cheese dressing, so our waiter, Nick, suggested a few others; I ended up with a parmesan pepper dressing. I did ask for it on the side and it didn't show up like that, but that was minor. I had the 6 oz. filet for my steak, and although it's not the best steak I've ever had, it was very tasty and tender. It came with fried onion strings, which were also good, and mashed potatoes, which was the only "meh" part of the meal; they were nothing special. For dessert, I chose the cheesecake, since last time I had the flourless chocolate cake which was a bit too rich for me. The cheesecake comes topped with a Luxardo cherry and was very good. Our waiter was hilarious, too, and cracking jokes the whole night, and our water glasses were never left empty. We also were seated in a side room near the restrooms, and I loved that we had our own private space; it was a little quieter than the main restaurant, too. Overall, 5/5 stars for Hyde Park, and looking forward to stopping by another time, probably for BRW since the prices are a bit out of my price range normally; the BRW menu was $39, which for a 3-course dinner in Birmingham is very reasonable. read more
