    Spicy rigatoni

My favorite restaurant that truly never disappoints. We started with the Cesar salad and eggplant parmigiana. For mains we shared a special filet pasta and spicy rigatoni. Our waiter suggested doing a split plate which was great. It's always very nice inside and I love coming here, can't wait to come back.

Casa Pernoi needs an extra two starts at least. The two of us were invited to a dinner party here by one of our vendors. It was a haul to get out there but we love the restaurant scene in Birmingham and I hadn't met these guys yet. I didn't know what to expect. The entrance is around the corner, in the alley. It's a walking path very well lit and charming. Step inside to beautiful dark wood, high ceilings and incredible aromas. We were shown to a private dining room around the corner. It was beautiful. High ceilings with windows on two sides, floor to ceiling. Introductions were made and the service began. The wait staff were on top of everything. Coat check bam! Wine glass bam! Refills, replacements, very thing was meticulously attended to. I think her name is Monica. She runs a tight ship for sure. There were others but I didn't get names. The food arrives in courses as noted on the table cards. I stuck with the red wine offered as it was one I would have ordered anyway. Montepulciano d' Abruzzo is a medium bodied red Italian that goes well with anything. (In my opinion) This label was excellent and was flowing for most in the room. The antipasto boards with bread baskets were first: Marcona almonds, cured meats, Manchego slices, chunks of parm, and delicious warm olives. Easy to eat and still chat at the table. The breads were so creative. Made in house olive bread, stout crackers well-salted, and a soft sponge slice that was almost moist. Next were the hot appetizers. I didn't try the meatballs though my husband said they were really good. My focus was on the incredible grilled octopus with grilled vegetables on a lovely ceci (creamed chickpea, aka hummus) it was so mild and tender though had a great flavor. The char didn't over power the dish. I will trek back out just for their grilled octopus. The third was sausage and peppers. They had a little heat though not much but was another fantastic dish. Mains was served in two courses : pasta and proteins. The pasta servings were about two large bites of two different pastas, red and white. Both stand on their own with perfectly cooked pasta. The cacio de pepi is a cheese sauce with black pepper tossed in a regular noodle. The bolognese was my favorite. Chef's special lamb ragu that was so mild, my husband ate it and liked it! I wanted to kiss the chef! He did not, however, try the fish in the next course. I wasn't going to push my luck here. I was stuffed by the mains but cannot pass up a branzino. There was also filet cooked to a perfect medium, broccolini, potatoes, and sides of a red sauce that was a perfect topper to the potatoes. Dessert was the tiramisu. A generous hunk on chocolate sauce and an espresso infusion sauce. To top off the night, we accepted the offer of a cappuccino after dinner and while we were winding down the evening of networking and chatting with others in our industry. I had to stay focused but was completely blown away by the everything about this restaurant. It will be a high recommendation for years to come.

Excellent happy hour. Very nice staff. The bar area is small so get there early if you want the happy hour specials. They have a lot of food options. We sampled a little of everything. My favorite was the Rigatoni Spicy Palomino followed by the Cacio E Pepe. Good portions too for the price.

We had been to a restaurant in this location in the past, but had not visited since it became Casa Pernoi, so we decided to give it a try. It was a beautiful September evening, so we sat in their spacious patio section in the back alley. The word "alley" may give the wrong impression...this is Birmingham, so of course it was a very stylish alley . Our server, Jeremy, was very knowledgeable and attentive. We started our meal with an appetizer special that I believe was call gnocchi fries. It was a little different than we expected, but it was good. The portion size was also more than expected, so it would probably have been more suitable for a bigger group. We followed that with a Caesar salad - we split one, which was more than enough. For our entrees, I selected the Cacio E Pepe. This has become a favorite of mine recently, and this was an excellent interpretation. At Jeremy's suggestion, I added ground sausage, which was an inspired choice. My wife is a big fan of bolognese sauce, so she ordered the Tagliatelle Bolognese. The sauce was a little tomato heavy for her tastes, but she still enjoyed it. With both entrees, we truly appreciated the homemade pasta.

This is definitely a top restaurant in the Birmingham area! Lots of seating available both inside and out. The menu had many options to choose from for each course and it was a great specials menu available too. The service was very polite and attentive from the hostess and the waitress. We started the meal off with bread which came with a few different kinds, all of which were delicious. The salad was on the specials menu and very refreshing and light with the watermelon. The meatballs were tasty with a nice little kick to the marinara sauce. Split the two pasta dishes which were both delicious. Pesto was nice and light with crab meat mixed in. The cacio e Pepe was very cheesy as expected with a nice amount of black pepper. No room for dessert this time around but maybe next time. Loved the meal and will definitely be back!

Our server was amazing and he explained the menu to us in great detail! The food was delicious and we loved the bread service! The spicy rigatoni was truly out of this world and I recommend everyone tries it! Beware - it definitely is spicy!!! A little pricey but all in all worth it.

We came in for a Happy Hour celebration during an early evening weekday. Wow! The house wines were great! Complimentary bread was a lovely addition, and the menu options basically completed our happy meal. Amanda was our server. We were seated at a table near the bar seating we'd originally requested. We shared we were celebrating a special moment, and the table was cleared of extra spots for us. Over and above beautiful! Amanda brought over a small lighted lamp as the room is otherwise dimly lit. Thoughtful and entirely practical! The house wines were exquisite. The rigatoni with spicy palomino sauce was (as always) a real standout. Meatballs (3) are hearty and tasty in house marinara. My guy ordered a wonderfully fresh and flavorful Caesar Salad along with yummy Parmesan Fries. Good times! We finished with a sorbet and decaf. My guy's digestif got mixed up with the more expensive version of what he originally ordered. We will know what to question if it happens again. All in all, we'd return.

This was our first time at Casa Pernoi, and it was an enjoyable evening with excellent service. And the food was very tasty. The restaurant itself has a few different sections and we were in the main area right when you walk in. But the side areas "faux outside" would've possibly been an even better ambience. That said, the tables were very close together. It reminded me of cruise ship dining in that you can hear conversations of your next table and it almost feels like you're dining with them. That would be the biggest downside to Pernoi, if that is something you don't like. My husband and I shared a number of things. House made bread was served first and was very fresh. We got a Brussel sprouts starter roasted with a red wine vinaigrette and I absolutely loved it. It was my favorite item of the evening. We then shared a Caesar salad. It was nice that they split it into two parts for us. It was a flavorful Caesar. And the croutons were likely from the bread they make. Next was the entrees. The chicken parmigiana and meatballs. I was already getting full so I only ate the chicken parmigiana. It was good, but not the best I've had. But I did enjoy it and my husband liked the meatballs a lot. I'd definitely come back sometime. And if allowed I'd say it was a 4.5 stars. Then

So good!!! Cant wait to come back. The octopus was cooked to perfection and i loved the truffle pasta.

I love Casa Pernoi all year round but especially in the spring/summertime when their patio is open! It's beautiful and has such a great ambiance. Their food is also amazing! Their spicy vodka pasta with chicken is great and so is the octopus appetizer.

    Meatballs and eggplant app

Great dinner on the patio! The highlights were the meatballs, eggplant appetizer, the bronzino and the chicken Parm! The only negative is that while we like our pasta al dente, the spicy rigatoni was too al dente for my family's preference.

Great ambience and very clean interior. Staff was extremely friendly, never wanted for anything. Jeremy was excellent. Food was amazing. The only thing I could knick pick on is that the gnocchi app would be even better served with a sauce.

You know damn well Yelpers that the number 1 rule about doing these reviews is this: NEVER DELIVER. It's just not the right way to experience it. You need the conversation, you need the interior, you need the cashier asking if you'd like to tip. (You know I'm joking, they don't ask. My fellow Berklians know that I ALWAYS tip 20%) When I walked in this couple already looked like they got into it. Atleast I know that if it's not love, or sadness being put into my pizza; it's ANGER. Beat that dough and smash those tomatoes. Slap that mootz onto that fresh pie, spank it a little. If your head doesn't look the color of a San Marzano making my pie... don't even bother. The crank hands me and my girlfriend the garlic bread. Bro. This might actually be some of the best bread I've ever had. It's like Canes with their sauce. Garlic bread is an incredibly overlooked component to a good pizza and I'm so happy that they put there ALL into making the best possible cheese bread. So delicious, it melts! The pizza was quite floppy, albeit, that was probably on me for leaving it in the box for more than 10 minutes. But the crust is chewy, the taste is pretty good. Tomatoes were a little bland, but that's probably a compliment to the cheese; like, hey look at me, f*** the tomato- look at me! I'm buffalo mozzarella, look how good I am. The penne pasta we got was VERY sweet, and cooked to perfection! The sauce was so sweet it almost tasted like it was TOO sweet. I literally had to add SALT to it like when should anyone ever have to do that to something overpowered by sweetness? Me of course cause clearly I wasn't thinking. It turned out to be spectacular though. I liked Grano, pretty good pizza at a monstrous price. But you can't deny, CLEANEST kitchen in the whole U.S. and definitely a lot of care put into their craft. There are 100% some maestro's coming out of that walk-in everyday, and like Tony Soprano's psychiatrist said, hope comes in many different forms. I love Italian-America, it's so dedicated. (4/5)

We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was the perfect choice. Our server, Patrick, was an absolute delight and took good care of us throughout our meal. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted great! For our next course, we split a Caesar Salad, but the parmesan basket it was served in made this dish truly unique. For my entree I had the Rigatoni alla Vodka. Vodka sauces are a favorite of mine and this one was among the best I've had. I was also quite pleased with the serving size, something that many Italian restaurants miss the mark on. My wife had the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. She loves a good bolognese sauce and truly enjoyed this one. We had originally decided to pass on dessert, but much to our surprise and delight, the head chef/owner brought us a cannoli, with a delicate "happy anniversary" chocolate wedged into a raspberry. It was a very kind and thoughtful way to wrap up a wonderful dining experience.
