I've been going here for twenty years. Best place to eat in Birmingham. The minestrone soup is to die for. I busted a for the garlic bread. Incredible ambience that makes you feel you are in Italy

Really really cute place. Super cozy and inviting and warm. Reallly loved the pesto the most, simple but delish. Our server was great! Oh you're too full from pasta?!! Suck it up and get the cobbler. Diet starts tomorrow. Don't play yourself

Starting off with the amazing that Sals starts you off with free bread. I had the lasagna and meatballs and it tastes just like your grandma made it. A very traditional meal, nothing too crazy but hearty. The ambiance is great and exactly what you'd expect from an American Italian restaurant

Amazing food and service! We came here for Valentine's Day and will definitely be back.

Pomodoro

The staff is very friendly and the service is great, but I've been here a few times and just always found the food to be very lacking. I ordered the pomodoro, you might be better off experimenting with something else. There's a main dining room but it's nice to sit in the front section with window seating if you're able to swing it, it's a nice, bright view.

Sal's has the best meatballs. I get them every time I visit. This little spot is perfect. Tons of charm, great service and delicious food.

charming local restaurant we just discovered-- had the nicest waiter named greg serve us--he has been there 15 years--food was good--everything is a la carte--pretty place with nice lighting--parking right out front--they call themselves 'sals'....

Got bolognese, noodles were overcooked and wet with water. Sauce was diluted and had minimal flavor . Bread was tough as cardboard.

The long awaited Woodward Italian shop I have been SEEKING and SALIVATING. I made it, I'm here,…read morelet's talk about it. I only just found out it was pick-up only. You know damn well Yelpers that the number 1 rule about doing these reviews is this: NEVER DELIVER. It's just not the right way to experience it. You need the conversation, you need the interior, you need the cashier asking if you'd like to tip. (You know I'm joking, they don't ask. My fellow Berklians know that I ALWAYS tip 20%) When I walked in this couple already looked like they got into it. Atleast I know that if it's not love, or sadness being put into my pizza; it's ANGER. Beat that dough and smash those tomatoes. Slap that mootz onto that fresh pie, spank it a little. If your head doesn't look the color of a San Marzano making my pie... don't even bother. The crank hands me and my girlfriend the garlic bread. Bro. This might actually be some of the best bread I've ever had. It's like Canes with their sauce. Garlic bread is an incredibly overlooked component to a good pizza and I'm so happy that they put there ALL into making the best possible cheese bread. So delicious, it melts! The pizza was quite floppy, albeit, that was probably on me for leaving it in the box for more than 10 minutes. But the crust is chewy, the taste is pretty good. Tomatoes were a little bland, but that's probably a compliment to the cheese; like, hey look at me, f*** the tomato- look at me! I'm buffalo mozzarella, look how good I am. The penne pasta we got was VERY sweet, and cooked to perfection! The sauce was so sweet it almost tasted like it was TOO sweet. I literally had to add SALT to it like when should anyone ever have to do that to something overpowered by sweetness? Me of course cause clearly I wasn't thinking. It turned out to be spectacular though. I liked Grano, pretty good pizza at a monstrous price. But you can't deny, CLEANEST kitchen in the whole U.S. and definitely a lot of care put into their craft. There are 100% some maestro's coming out of that walk-in everyday, and like Tony Soprano's psychiatrist said, hope comes in many different forms. I love Italian-America, it's so dedicated. (4/5)

After decades of dining in Birmingham, I'm always surprised when we come across a new gem (well,…read morenew to us, since apparently this place has been here for a decade). We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was the perfect choice. Our server, Patrick, was an absolute delight and took good care of us throughout our meal. We started with an appetizer special, the Wagyu meatball with fondue. It definitely did not fit the standard definition of a meatball, which was a good thing. The presentation was beautiful and it tasted great! For our next course, we split a Caesar Salad, but the parmesan basket it was served in made this dish truly unique. For my entree I had the Rigatoni alla Vodka. Vodka sauces are a favorite of mine and this one was among the best I've had. I was also quite pleased with the serving size, something that many Italian restaurants miss the mark on. My wife had the Tagliatelle alla Bolognese. She loves a good bolognese sauce and truly enjoyed this one. We had originally decided to pass on dessert, but much to our surprise and delight, the head chef/owner brought us a cannoli, with a delicate "happy anniversary" chocolate wedged into a raspberry. It was a very kind and thoughtful way to wrap up a wonderful dining experience.

Owner is direct messaging after I noted how small the main pasta dish was. Very unprofessionalread more

They used to serve Italian bread with a plate of olive oil and herbs. Now they offer what tastes like Hawaiian rolls. I like rolls but not with pasta. Maybe with pulled pork at a barbeque. Ordered the chopped salad. It was so spicy with peppers that I couldn't eat it. No the same chopped salad I'm used to. So disappointed as this was one of my go to places. Since the topping error was acceptable to my sister, Bella said I'll box it up and let her take it home instead of waiting it by throwing it out. When in Detroit you must go to buddy's for the home of the Detroit style pizza. Richelle, my sister, and I got 4 square pizza. Detroiter, BBQ Conant, and Margarita all were fantastic, in original crust. We ordered the wings and veggie sampler, really really good. Top notch wings, they could change the name to Buddy's pizza n wings for their 80th birthday. The breaded and fried veggies are among the best I have ever had, love the extra crunchy crumbles in the basket. Ranch, bbq, and siracha sauce was trying and enjoyed. The kids were in the mood for something different, so we decided to do carryout. When we walked in to order, the inside immediately caught my eye. There's a large bar area, cool signage, and a laid-back vibe. It wasn't overly busy, and we were directed by the host stand where carryout orders are placed. After checking out the menu, we went with the "Detroiter." The wait was about 20 minutes, which wasn't bad, but for a 4-square pizza at around $18, it did feel a bit pricey. The pizza itself was just okay for me. I was honestly expecting more, especially since Detroit-style pizza is so hyped. It wasn't bad, just didn't quite live up to my expectations. I did use the restroom while waiting, and it was clean and nicely designed. I loved the music-themed decor, vinyl records on display, fun wallpaper, and music playing in the background that gave the whole place a lively, upbeat feel. The spot has a cool vibe and laid back ambiance, but the pizza didn't wow me.
