I ordered a salad a couple weeks ago and contracted cyclospora I had explosive diarrhea, high temperatures and couldn't stop being sick and nauseated for the past week. I called the restaurant and I was rudely told no one has reported this. Well, this is absolutely unacceptable !!! I went to my Dr. and she confirmed I had cyclospora and scripted an antibiotic which doesn't seem to help. No one should order their salads!!!! read more

went here for the first time: my husband had been here years ago and said he loves the food; unfortunately the food was not good at all... husband was very disappointed as he said the quality isn't the same.. my husband ordered their pasta dish much to our disappointment they bought the wrong pasta out which he still ate i had a salad with salmon on the side. the salmon was not seasoned and the salad was such a disappointment big thick chunks of onion, carrots tomatoes etc it look more like a prep for a dish to be cooked than a salad it's self. overall we will not be back. the place itself is very cute love their out door seating that's where we sat. they may need a new chef or need to revise their dishes. read more

Came here one mid Sping day as to satisfy a meatball craving. For me, it was my first time here. Great staff and a nice cozy place to eat on this B'ham spring day. Service was excellent and our waitress Megan was truly the highlight of the experience. She was attentive, friendly, and made us feel really taken care of throughout the meal. The food overall was good but not great. I was hoping for more of a cozy, mom-and-pop, old-school Italian vibe, and it didn't quite hit that mark for me in terms of atmosphere or depth of flavor. One standout, though, was the tiramisu...absolutely delicious and easily the best part of the meal. Unfortunately, one downside worth mentioning is that my friend became sick afterward and believes it was from the mussels she ordered. I started with the arancini which is a favorite of mine. These are huge and generously stuffed. This is a solid arancini. For my main, I ordered the chicken parmesan. The chicken parmesan is good. It's not anything more than good, but it's far from being bad. It's a giant piece of chicken. It could use a little more crisp, but it was good. I loved the intimate setting of the restaurant, dim lighting, quaint atmosphere, small setting. The restaurant felt so cozy and warm. The gentleman at the front was so kind! The food was great and came out quickly! I got the bolognese and it was good, you can select your noodles. The garlic bread was great too! Bread does not come with the meal, so prepare for that additional cost. The prices were extremely reasonable! read more

The staff is very friendly and the service is great, but I've been here a few times and just always found the food to be very lacking. I ordered the pomodoro, you might be better off experimenting with something else. There's a main dining room but it's nice to sit in the front section with window seating if you're able to swing it, it's a nice, bright view. read more

I always do the Madison heights location and this was the first time at Bham. I will never go back. I ordered the double simple salad which was amazing! I ordered the rigatoni bolognese with two meatballs. This is the only pasta I get from here and there was no sauce. The portion size was just the two meatballs and barely any pasta. We went to Sals this Saturday and had perfect service, perfect food, and a very nice atmosphere. We were greeted by Adam who kindly checked on us during the meal. We're semi-regulars here, and usually it's pretty good. Tonight, however, our dining experience was just off. The server informed us that the fish special was not available because the chef wasn't preparing it correctly and people had been sending it back. When I asked about the side vegetables, I was told they were prepared al dente and were not soft and palatable. We skipped those. My salad had chewy lettuce in long 6" strips. Not bite-sized or crunchy. The bread arrived cold, not warm. The pasta was just okay. I hope they get better people in the kitchen because the restaurant has a great atmosphere. I have enjoyed to foid, but getting my carry out order done right remains a huge challenge. Example: ordered chicken parm. Asked for a side of extra marinara sauce, got home, no sauce. That was 4 years ago. This exact issue has happened multiple (10) times since. In fact it happened today, afain. And when I have pointed it out to the restaurant, I am treated as if I am the problem. They give me the eye roller, and explain where I went wrong. I do like the food, but people who work there are not interested is solving problems, and clearly asking for a small container of extra sauce is very unreasonable in their eyes. So, if you order carry out, take the time look at everything before you leave. Better yet, go somewhere they appreciate that you are doing business with them, or just simply be pleasant about missing items. Me, after 4 years of this, I am pretty much done. Food was very good. Had an aperol spritz to drink, Arancini was hot, crispy, and rich. Got the garlic bread with a side of olives. The bread was great; actually pieces of garlic. I had one of their specials, can't remember the name but it had shrimp, pesto, sun dried tomatoes and pasta. As a whole, the dish was great. Could have used a bit more pesto flavor and way less oil. My husband had the risotto which I thought was great. The server was very sweet. Unsure if they were short staffed but things seemed to take a little longer or we wouldn't see her for a while. I dined here on March 27. Our server was Jessica. While dining service was good. The check total was $71.55. I left a $20 cash tip and put zero in the tip spot on the check. After reviewing my transactions on March 31 I saw I had been charged $86.55. A tip of $15 had been fraudulently added to my bill in addition to the almost 30% cash tip I left. I spoke to the manager, Adam on April 2. I relayed the discrepancy and provided my transaction number and time of dining from my receipt. He took the information and asked to call me back after he did some research. He did call me back stating he had pulled the transaction. He claimed the server, Jessica had a similar check around the same amount as mine and had "inadvertently" charged mine. He assured me accounting had taken care of the fraudulently added $15 tip and I would receive the credit. It is now April 7 and I have yet to receive the $15 credit. It's only $15, but it's the principle and I don't appreciate being stolen from. I left a more than adequate tip. I have friends and a few family members that are currently employed by or were day one employees at ocean prime in Troy. I'm aware of how restaurant systems work. It's not that easy to add a tip to bill that doesn't have one. Oh, and I now live out of state and I'm no longer there to address it in person. I spoke to Adam a second time and he and assured me the $15 had been credited. Tried calling again today and he is not in. They also should be comping the bill in its entirety due to my inconvenience and their employee's fraudulent steeling. read more

Lasagna was one of the best we've had. Fresh, layering of noodles, cheese, spinach and beef - with an amazing sauce. Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts and arugula salad was also a standout. First I have to give the service an A+. Torrie and Carter were amazing and they are what customer service is all about. Nice atmosphere whether you sit inside or on the patio. I gave it 4 stars because the food was very mediocre at best. The veal francese and village salad(needs to come out chilled) were ok at best. The arancini was tasty! I will definitely try it again and hopefully the next time around I can give it that extra star! read more

The food was good. They were very accommodating to our reservation and friendly on the host front. The bad...never been told the word "NO" so many times while ordering. Every question or query was an immediate hard no. Really put a damper on the meal. We were there to celebrate a birthday. The birthday girl asked to try a small sample of the minestrone soup to see if she should order. Received a hard NO..."we don't do that!!! I've been here 4 years...it's a NO!!" Just wow out of the gate. I'm very pregnant and asked for a small side of pasta. After ordering a bowl of soup and a large entree salad. I said I'll pay whatever it costs. Just wanted the side portion. Another hard NOOO's several time. The server said he could only make it happen if I ordered an entree. I said charge whatever. More NOOOO's...again "I've been here 4 years and we don't do that!!" So condescending. I asked if they did anything for birthdays. Again celebrating actual birthday of a friend. Answer..."Nope sorry enjoy!" My salad had very little dressing. I asked for a little more. Got a nice charge on the bill for that. Was told "sorry house policy!" I mentioned I had never been charged for more dressing anywhere. Server rudely said "OK!" The entire birthday evening was soured by the service. I've been coming here for 35 years...since middle school. Never been treated like this. Ever. Sad evening for a birthday and pregnancy celebration.
