Great Saturday night entertainment.. had dinner at the bar and service was impeccable!

I must say I did not like this place for the following reasons. The server and his helpers were not great. We had a table for 3 so we decided to order one salad and share it just to open up our appetite. We told the server one Caesar salad. He said 3 instead we corrected him and told him 1 since we just wanted something small before our meal. He told us that 3 is better since they are small. So we decided to get 2 salads instead. We got the two salads and they were huge. We felt that was disingenuous of the server to tell us they were small when they could very well be a meal by themselves. We also received an extra plate but told the waiter that it was not needed since we would be using our bread plates due to space. He insisted on keeping it there. He came back with bread and my friend picked up the plate and told him please take this we are not using it. The waiter was not pleased. We took some time to eat our salads since it was a lot and we did have conversation going on the table. The waiter kept coming back asking if we were done. Clearly we weren't especially with so much salad he claimed was little. His visits were obnoxious considering we should not be rushed 5 minutes after receiving the salads. The meal tasted really good. The prices were extremely high for the taste and service. They tried a lot to push their up-selling on dessert. We declined several times. I only wished they would give the check as quick as their visits to the table. The look and feel of the place is old fashion restaurant which is nice. However their servers and helpers need an up date training in modern mannerisms for serving. read more

Definitely time for an update. Stoney Point continues to be one of my favorite hidden gems in Pasadena. Old school vibe with great food and service. The food is what my parents would refer to as "continental cuisine" with a decided Italian flare. We've hosted large parties here, gone with small groups of friends, or just a romantic dinner for two. Is the restaurant dated? Yes, but I don't care. I noticed some reviews saying it needs to be remodeled. Sorry but no. That's part of it's charm. Not everything needs to be turned into a gastro pub. Yes the crowd is definitely on the older side, but again, who cares. There's always a piano player, the cocktails are perfectly done, and the outstanding service by career waiters puts it over the top in my opinion. restaurant and piano bar place that has service every other place in the LA should envy. this is a small place, but they serve you with their hands behind their back, calling you mam and sir and saying things like "we are here to serve you". which made my really down-to-earth roomate who likes to make people connections and treat people like they exist outside of being wait staff bring out her bag of charms. she got our server to smile...then blush.... then a high five complete with laughter and perma grin after. and he still continued to treat us with the best of service. the piano music is fun to play "what's that tune?" to and makes for a happy atmosphere since otherwise this place could be a little "wealthy republican comes here after hunting quail or something". the drinks are strong and very very tasty. this is an order a bourbon or whiskey place, but my character of a roomate wanted a strawberry margarhita and she recieved one that she thought was one of the best she's ever had. the food!!!! oh my god to die for. one of us ordered duck and it was so beautiful- perfectly roasted with some kind of a berry sauce on top. you get a few octopi (plural octopus?) in the calamari, and although i didn't taste this food and didn't order any myself, they raved and the vegetarian options were also plentiful in the form of all different kinds of pastas. if not for the fantastic food and delightful drinks, go for adolopho the wonderful waiter read more

My husband and I love Stoney Point. So much so that we celebrate birthdays there, got engaged there, and make sure we head there for the full she-bang kind of meal whenever we have extra cash. We love going there alone, it tends to be our little secret. Most of the regulars are at least 20 years our senior, but we love that. The pianists are always great for extra added atmosphere and fun, the food is consistently good (we tend to get the Sand Dabs, Spinach Ricotta Ravioli, and Spaghetti with Clams pretty religiously) and the bar is great. Went Saturday for an early Mothers day. My salmon was great, a bunch of my party enjoyed the duck and the halibut. The service was excellant. The prices are actually pretty good for a slightly upscale place. I saw two different couples come in where the wife was dressed up and the men wore t-shirts, so it's not pretenious here. Let me just say, if you want to converse with the members in your party, when making the reservation, you must tell the Maitre D' you do not want to sit near the bar. If not, you and your group will find yourselves yelling over the piano music and the "loud talkers" sitting at the bar. We were there for a special occasion and really wanted to enjoy it, so I asked the server if we could move to another room. His response was, "I'll talk to the piano player and the loud guy at the bar". Um yeah...thanks a lot buddy, that'll help. I even considered giving the pianist $20 to take an extra-long break. Some of us had a seafood special (snapper, scallops & shrimp) which was pretty good. Others had Shrimp Fra Diavlo and Spinach & Ricotta ravioli, also good, but we can make it as good or better at home. All the desserts were decent, and they gave the birthday girl, a nice slice of Tiramisu (on the house). Overall, we thought the food was good (not great), the server "phoned it in" and the room was way too noisy. It's just not worth the considerable price tag. read more

I've wanted to check this place out for years. It was a cloudy Friday afternoon and the walk from Suicide Bridge made me thirsty. So I popped in for a Dirty Martini. Two hours and three drinks later, I was in for a soup of the day, an entree and a delicious coffee dessert. Best impromptu self-date night of the year; thus far. My husband and I consider Stony Point our "go to" restaurant, especially if we have a hankerin' for cioppino. We think it's the best around. If we haven't filled our selves up with an appetizer or salad before the main course, we always stay in our seats for the wonderful chocolate soufflé. I think this is the best Italian I've had to date. I've tried many Italian restaurants: Il Fornaio, Angellini Osteria (Beverly Hills), Wine Country Trattoria, Spago, Celestino, Mi Piace, Louise's Trattoria, Dominicos & etc. and Stoney Point was by far the best. Appetizer Soup of the day Pea leak soup--pretty tasty, a little salty but still delicious Entree Penne alla Vodka--substituted the penne for farfalle pasta since I'm not a huge fan of penne. The sauce was amazing and exactly how I wanted it. I literally just had lunch but just thinking about this pasta makes me my water. Dessert Tiramisu (complimentary birthday dessert accompanied by piano playing)--I've never been a huge fan of Tiramisu as it's too mushy for my liking. However, I was really impressed by the piano player who started playing happy birthday as the waiter brought the dessert over. It was a very nice and glowing touch. This place is great! And the waiters are friendly and fantastic, half the people seem like regulars being greeted with hugs and handshakes. The guy playing piano is good and smiles a lot. We didn't sing out loud but we were Definitely swaying and quietly singing! I had beef carpaccio with arugula, parm, lemon and capers as a starter...perfectly balanced flavors with such a fresh lemon flavor. My main was the Stoney Point chicken...like a Cordon Bleu with chicken, mozzarella & prosciutto. Delicious! Dad had fresh, light and crispy fried calamari, and sautéed sand dabs with lemon & capers. Ray had the Caesar's Salad, cold and crisp, and the main was the Italian Meatloaf. A tender meatloaf stuffed with cheese and prosciutto, and a red sauce with a side of pasta. He was thrilled. Dessert was a small hot flaky tarte tatin w/vanilla ice cream, a coffee espresso ice cream thing, and a lemoncello and lemon sorbet parfait. Perfect place to go with dad. Went to Stoney Point tonight for the first time. My wife and I went to celebrate our anniversary and I have to tell you that the food is fantastic (have the Creamy Mushroom Soup when it is available), also the Salmon and Osso Bucco are excellent, the drinks and atmosphere are great, as well, but the Service is what pushed it over the top. Thank you Stoney Point for allowing me to find out that my wife loves me just a little bit more tonight. read more

This place is definitely interesting. As several of the other reviews have mentioned, it's like the 1940's in here. The servers are polished and polite elder males, dressed in white dinner jackets and standing smartly at attention. There's usually a guy on a piano, playing jazz tunes and drinking a cocktail. The 1940's atmosphere draws a much older crowd - someone else mentioned "fur and pearls", which is right on. Stoney Point doesn't have a dress code, but everyone that comes here dresses up, for some reason. So the place has this weird, throwback sophistication vibe that's cool. The food is decent - steaks and fish, nothing too inventive or flashy. Simple and straightforward. This was a fun place to go to - but I have to give a single star, I'm afraid, because I came here once with a friend and her dinner had a piece of steel wool embedded in it. In a serving of mashed potatoes, I believe. When we confronted our waiter about it, he shrugged indifferently and walked away, not even offering an apology. Ouch! This restaurant was amazing. Saw the amazing reviews and thought I should give this place a try. It is a some what small old fashioned restaurant and pricy but is definitely worth it. Came without a reservation and got seated instantly. Food is simple but very good. I had gotten the Penne Alla Vodka plate and it was delicious. I wish I could've gotten every pasta plate there was. I seem to be out of the majority here but I was totally underwhelmed by this place. I went here before the theater with my Bubby and my aunt and uncle. They all live out in Pasadena so there are a handful of restaurants that my Bubby frequents. Sadly, tonight was not a Lawry's night. Stoney Point is a quaint little italian place with not a lot of parking. They do, however, have a lot of very large photographs of Pasadena all over the walls. It's kind of like they tried to go smooth, old school history but ended of with foam-core backed, wrong time period weirdness. It's like they wanted to be a little romantic spot but it was kind of too well lit. We got there around 6:15 and there were several tables already filled. It's definitely an early bird kind of crowd. They started us off with some bruschetta which was a nice touch. The special that night was Oso Bucco and my bubby and I both ordered it. Well, the waiter comes out a few minutes later to say they are already out of it. Um, it's 6:15, you have already run out of the special for the night? It's Saturday night. Get some planning skills, please. So, I ended up going with the lamb chops, my bubby had the lasagna and we were ok with it. My lamb chops were cooked perfectly - very tender - but the sauce was kind of gross. It was mustard based and it had a ton of minced olives on/in it. Way too strong, I thought. Dessert was delish, though - chocolate gelato, coconut sorbet and lemon mousse cake. Yum. Biggest pet peeve?? It took 10 minutes for them to refill my diet coke that was $3. And I had to flag him down to ask him. Diet Coke is my cocktail with dinner. Please refill. I'd go back if my Bubby insisted but not for any other reason. Oh, and there was no one on the piano when we were there. Maybe we were too early but that might have helped things a bit. read more

I felt I was taken back into the fourties. This place has been around for a long time and has some interesting pictures from Eagle Rock / Pasadena's past on the wall. I learned about mirror lake (johnston lake) and vinyards that used to be in this area. The service was outstanding, good wine and the food was delicious too (we had the specials: lobster pasta and softshell crab). It's definitely on the pricy side, so wouldn't come here on a regular basis, but worth checking out for a special occasion. read more

I have passed by this place ever since I could first drive a car. Finally as an adult I ventured forth just for drinks. Ended up with the biggest bar bill ever... $300. Worth every penny. Love these old classy establishments. Did not eat...but the food that was being served looked great. The piano man and all at the bar sang all the good songs...you know the ones. Screw karaoke, if you like true singing, this place has a piano bar with the greatest piano player in Los Angeles. Love to sing Sinatra, Cole Porter, Gershwin? Lou knows them all! The food is absolutely delicious!!!!! Adolfo also provided great service too! The portions are just right. The French onion soup is amazing.... It wasn't too salty or just full of beef broth. My boyfriend and I found Stoney Point Restaurant browsing our "Night on the town" restaurant book providing a free entree of $12 maximum value. Approaching the parking lot, the exterior of the restaurant appeared a lil run down. A little old man greeted my boyfriend and I at the entrance, pulled the chair out for me to be seated and placed a white cloth napkin in my lap. The white banquet style table settings, live piano music and La Canada type clientele gave a "Titanic" ambiance. My boyfriend ordered the halibut, I ordered the filet mignon and we shared the vanilla bean creme brulee all cooked beyond satifaction. The Barolo wine sauce on the filet mignon is unique. read more

When you walk in the door you are bound to have the same feeling I got when I entered. What a surprise. I had no idea this little gem was right around the corner. It is a throw back to the days of waiters who know their job and an atmosphere that is reminiscent of the fine dinner clubs of yesterday. On this Thursday night there was even a pianist playing songs on request. We sat at the bar and had only drinks and an appetizer. The calamari was very good and a red sauce that accompanied it exceptional. Our bar tender was very attentive, filling our water glasses and checking in to see if everything was OK, but did not hover. Plenty of free parking on site. Next time we'll go back to have one of the many very good looking dishes we saw being delivered to various tables (mainly couples). read more

Spending time lingering over a drink and great Italian food with a good friend is always a great recipe for fine dining. Well that was delivered and more. The small quaint restaurant was set up with cloth napkins and fine china with delicious food and bread was a fabulous combination! The waiters were so attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The parking is free and plentiful. I ordered the Gnocchi A Pomodoro and it was so good. I had never had it before and it was served piping hot! There is a piano in the corner and since I was there for lunch I didn't get the opportunity to have live music while dining. They close after lunch to prepare for dinner. If I am in the area I'll definitely go again. read more

My boyfriend and I went here for a Valentine's Day dinner. When we first walked in, we noticed that it definitely catered to a different age range-- we are in our mid-twenties, and most of the patrons were well into seniority. This wasn't a big deal, but it did make us feel out of place. We got seated fairly quickly (we had a reservation of course), and the service was not bad despite the fact that they were understaffed. The food, however, is what killed it for me. As an appetizer, I ordered a Lobster Bisque. It smelled and tasted like WET DOG. The smell of the soup got me so nauseated that I had to move it to another table to stop myself from throwing up! The main dish was mediocre, and the tiramisu was not homemade. It might be that I just ordered the wrong item, but just thinking about that Lobster Bisque makes me never want to return again. read more

Upscale Italian restaurant in the Old Pasadena neighborhood. The food is spectacular and comes with matching table service. This is a higher end restaurant that offers some awesome Italian food.
