We showed up 9 minutes after our reservation time; when I gave my name to the hostess, she asked "what time were you supposed to be here?" Uh, now? Reservations have a 15 minute grace period and we got here 9 minutes after cos we were trying to park. Came in for Sunday brunch tried to make a reservation and claimed system was down and should be able to accommodate. Went at opening 10am and claimed Party tables are full and was offering 3:30pm. If this was some kind of reality show, it would have made sense. This was literally the very worst service I have ever received in my entire life. If the waiter was not feeling well or just didn't want to serve us or it was some kind of dare, it would have made sense. It was quite a busy Saturday night and they did seem to have a lot of servers but few had a hustle attitude. I wouldn't be surprised if they were sourced from TROSA, trying to give people a second chance or pulling them from gang activities. Our masked male pony-tailed server took twenty minutes to take our drink order, one of which was the special which never arrived. We had to call other servers over periodically as our waiter completely disappeared. He was not on the floor at all. MIA. Apparently, in speaking with the manager Stephen later, he was new so maybe he just had our table to focus on. We were a party of four. Steak was ordered medium and came out rare. Utensils were not included with the meals and we had to ask another server. A salad had no dressing. All these things could have been addressed if the waiter had not gone AWOL. As positives, my chicken piccata was very good and we did get seated immediately. I spoke at length outside to the manager. A single desert with four spoons was offered in compensation. However, I can't really see myself going back although the youngest two members of the party have been to the restaurant many times and said service was known to be slow. Knowing my housemate, she would have left her standard 20% tip or feeling embarrassed that I spoke up, may have upped that amount. Since most people in these places tip irregardless of the quality of the service, I can understand why servers may not care if they perform well or not. This place is a dope spot to link up with friends or a date night. it was nice outside so I met up with my girlfriend and we did outdoor seating. our waiter Jayla was very nice and a sweetheart she was very tentative to our needs and gave great recommendations on what to order. First things first I ordered a blueberry lemon drop which is not on the menu but they manage to make it and it was delicious. had to be the best drink I have had in a while! for my appetizer I had a dozen oysters with a side of lemon and horseradish. Very Fresh! my friend had the salmon cakes which was good as well. For my Andre I had the chicken picatta which Jela recommended and I say they did a great job. This was a liquid night for me so my perspective is based on cocktail drinks and beer - average for what you get based on other venues that I've visited. Those that I visited this location with enjoyed their food and had great things to day about it (save the underwhelming serving size of chocolate cake). The staff was friendly and for the most part, attentive. The wooden floors can become VERY slick. Tread carefully (an observation that I made as well as others within my party). I tried to make a reservation for a party of 8 at 7 o'clock on their website, but the website wouldn't allow me to, and gave me the following alert: "Unfortunately, your party is too large to make an online reservation at Stir - Raleigh. We recommend contacting the restaurant directly." As instructed, I made multiple attempts to call the restaurant without getting through. Once I finally did, I spoke a kind hostess who helped me make a reservation. I repeated it back to her to and confirmed all the details were correct, and she informed me that I would be sent a text confirmation as well. After hanging up, I checked the confirmation, and saw I was booked for 6 o'clock on the chosen date, an hour earlier which would not work for me and several people in my party. When I called back to fix it, I spoke with another hostess and informed her of the mishap. She placed me on hold, and upon returning to the phone, she told me that her manager stated that they could not change the time to 7 because there were no more times available and the earliest they could do is 9. I was frustrated at this point because I double checked with the other hostess and she confirmed that 7 would work and that she reserved my party a table at this time. I asked to speak to the manager to explain to him what happened. Instead of hearing me out, a manager named Mitch was quite rude and defensive. He was cold and cut me off multiple times instead of being accommodating and understanding. I understand if they could not serve my party as previously communicated by their host, but I would expect the manager to at least listen to my concerns as I was inconvenienced by their mistake. I'm leaving two stars because I've eaten here before and the food was mediocre, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere and my server was very kind. However, I definitely did not appreciate receiving such poor customer service and I will not be coming back here anytime soon. read more

I'm a tad torn on our experience at STIR. I've heard great things about the cocktails and bourbon (the artisanal ice too) but wasn't very impressed. The cocktails were just okay. We tried the whiskey bramble, wassail and an old fashioned. For food we tried the hummus & pimento trio, crab bisque, crispy mahi bowl and fried green tomato burger. It was really good minus the mahi bowl (that was overpriced in my opinion). The tables were socially distanced with seating available both inside and outside. My husband and I shared the fish tacos, truffle fries, the sliders and I ordered a chopped veggie salad. The fish tacos were delicious! He said the sliders were really good too. The salad left much to be desired as far as flavor went. The portion was great and I loved an all veggie option but the dressing was very bland. The fries were soggy, which we found odd because they came out hot! We have NEVER sent food back but my husband asked the waitress for new fries because he said they were so soggy, they were inedible. I'll eat potatoes in any state so I could have cared less, honestly. The second round of fries came out and same thing, soft soggy fries. Again, I didn't care that much but he was upset that they weren't crispy at all. Overall, the food was good with some tweaks needed. The drinks were great and it has a fun atmosphere. * pre covid review * My boyfriend and I dined at STIR twice in 2019. TLDR? We sat outside both times, food was good, drinks were good, service was good, but the environment was a little loud. First things first- the dessert. It was amazing. I ordered the homemade candy bar and it was so. good. It's probably my favorite part about the experiences I've had at STIR. Sadly, I just looked at their menu and it looks like they've removed that item from the menu which is really sad. *cries* I hope they only removed it temporarily due to menu restrictions from covid ... or maybe it was seasonal. Either way, I hope they will add to the menu again sometime because it was incredibly good. They have an AWESOME outdoor dining area too. They have a covered and uncovered portion of their patio. They have a service/bar window so getting a drink is super quick, or you can even choose to sit at the outside bar. And, for the chilly months, they have heaters that really make the space feel really cozy (or hot if you're sitting really close to one). It does get really loud/crowded though from my experiences. Because everyone probably wants to sit outside! As I've seen from some other recent reviews, probably not the best place to brunch during covid. I recently (during covid) recommended STIR to a family friend for a bridal shower brunch "party" and, since covid has made many restaurants pause brunch service, it was difficult to find local restaurants in their area offering what they were looking for. When I saw that STIR was offering brunch, that was my top recommendation. Not only brunch, but $1 mimosas!! They loved the idea of practically endless mimosas, and decided to make a reservation. Overall, STIR is a good place to go for brunch or for a North Hills date night or something. Now that they've removed my favorite dessert from the menu, I don't know if I would dine again. My partner and I came here last night with two of our friends and had a great experience! The service, atmosphere, and food was pretty stellar. Our server was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. The atmosphere was spacious and pretty relaxing. They have options for indoor or patio dining. We sat inside, however, I would enjoy sitting outside next time, weather permitting! On to the best part, food and drink! I opted for a "Wild Moon Child," and this was actually the best cocktail I have ever had. Blanco Tequila, strawberry puree, fresh lemon juice, Lime Cordial, and Aperol. This was so light, slightly sweet, and refreshing. Perfect amount of juice and alcohol, perfect amount of ice. I could have had 3 more! I did go for a glass of Argentina Malbec after, and that was also great. For the food, we split a few items. We ordered the Parmesan Truffle Fries, Wedge Salad, Mexican Ceviche, and Sliders. In addition, I couldn't leave without trying the raw oysters, so I ordered six, two of each type they had. The fries were delicious, so flavorful, some of the best I have ever had! The Wedge Salad was good, but was a bit disappointed to see how much yellow lettuce was a part of the salad, versus green. As silly as that sounds, the green just tastes a lot better and doesn't have that awkward stale flavor. The sliders were good, but slightly well done. The cheddar, garlic mayo, and pickles did compliment it very well though! If cooked a bit better, they would have been perfect! Lastly, the oysters and ceviche! All of the oysters were great, unfortunately I don't recall which I liked best, but they were all smooth, fresh, and flavorful. The ceviche was 10/10! We started with a couple of drinks, they both were ok, but a little too sweet for my liking. We then ordered the truffle fries & blue wedge salad to start. The fries were so disappointing. They seemed like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. They were really soggy, limp, and greasy. The blue wedge was fine. Nothing to write home about. Finally, the entrees. I got the chicken piccata and my boyfriend got the crispy Mahi bowl. It was ok. The flavor was fine for both dishes but not really with $20 a dish. This place was really cute. We came on mothers day so there was a long wait (hour and half). They ended up boxing early for us though but we were out of the area so we still had to wait our full time. Once seated I got a margarita, it was delicious! It was a great classic margarita, I felt like i could taste all the different components of the drink, a little sweet, a little, tangy, a little tequila-y haha. If you're trying to avoid crowded restaurants because of COVID, this is *not* the place to be for dinner Thursday through Sunday. We went here for dinner on a Thursday night and it was packed! You would have never known were in the middle of a pandemic induced state of emergency. We were hoping to sit out on the patio, but the hostess told us that you have to indicate outdoor seating when you make your reservation. So now you know..... The weather was really mild, so they had all their convertible walls open, which made the entire restaurant feel like a covered patio. We felt comfortable eating inside because of this set up. I got a few oysters, which were super fresh and yummy but I did get some grittiness in my mouth. My main dish, the scallops, were delicious. The seasonal vegetables in the dish were carrots, beets, onion and sweet potato. A great mix, but unevenly salted - some parts were too salty and the others too bland. The restaurant setting is really pretty - the kind of place that makes you want to dress up cutely. Really enjoyed brunch at Stir. The food was universally good and the atmosphere is upscale but not pretentious. There were a few little things that weren't perfect, but in the end we decided 4.7 stars rounds to five. The restaurant is smallish and usually packed. Reservations are highly recommended, especially for brunch. The pictures of the shelving behind the bar is legit, I didn't see any duplicates in there...although I didn't look that closely, if it's even semi common, they probably have it. In my opinion, they have too many high top tables, which can be a problem for shorter people, but ask for something else if you need to. about 11am, we sat in a low table near the doors and in the sun, which was great for two but not recommended for more because someone would have the sun in their face. But there's only a few tables like that. Food is what you go for and everything we had here was spot on. For brunch, they have a "brunch bar", which would normally be a small buffet line serving a few items - deviled eggs, potato salad are the two that I remember. Despite me usually not liking potato salad and especially not with onions, they weren't overpowering and it was really good. Main meals of the "Mix-it-up Frittata" and the Nutella waffles with strawberries were fantastic. No mimosas, but that looks like a fun thing with a larger group. The $1 mimosas come in a wine glass and my instinct says they're a better deal than the $10 mason jar pitcher, but we all know pitchers are better. Small negatives kept it from being perfect - the cloth napkin shed lint on dark pants, can you consider dark colored napkins and getting close to what a customer is wearing? The door to the mens room opens up to the mirror reflecting directly to the stalls. I mentioned the hightops earlier and is there way you might be able to add shades for the tables at the far end or outside? But these are little things and won't stop us from coming back. Had an awesome experience here last night with a friend! It was the first time dining for both of us and we were not disappointed. We had (a couple rounds of) the Elderflower Sour and the Viva La Astral cocktails - absolutely on point and came out pretty quickly for a Friday night. Shared parmesan truffle fries and the spicy chicken samosas (which where HUGE) appetizers to start; both were delicious but the samosas were probably the favorite. The chicken was flavorful with a nice kick, pastry was perfectly crisp and it was all complemented so well by the tangy chili sauce. We ended up overestimating so didn't have room for individual entrees, but we still went splitsies on the shrimp and scallop truffle mac and cheese! No regrets. They even split it into two plates for us and each portion was still plentiful. Scallops were perfectly cooked and buttery, and the sauce - oh man, creamy truffle goodness all over. Unfortunately didn't get a picture of it though. Only letdown is that we didn't get to try more things, honestly. Service was awesome and friendly, enforced social distancing guidelines and all! The bar area and bathroom give like a modern, clean Art Deco-y vibe with lots of white and rosy gold tones. Service- A++ Alyssa was new and blew it out of the park! She was fun, nice, knew when to ask questions about the menu and wasn't checking in too often or too little (truly an art form). Appetizers and wine service - A++ We got a bottle of wine and the char boiled oysters - INCREDIBLE! The wine is well priced and I love how they check in to make sure you like the bottle before opening. The oysters are so fresh, big and juicy! The minute is fresh and great pairing with the Parmesan.
