First class outfit. My brother, sister and I coordinated a move for our parents from Chicago to Naples, and the whole process was professional, friendly, and absolutely dependable. Typically, having several point people (my siblings and I) to deal with is a bit much for most companies, but it never became an issue with Stevenson. Their coordinators (usually Lorna) took it all in stride and kept us all in the loop as needed. High points: o The crew chief - Joe Rychtarik was the driver and in charge of the move. He was excellent - very clear communication, attention to detail, and went with the shipment to supervise the move-in. o The owner - Bill Stevenson Jr. - did the estimate and was also very professional. o The crew - Justin, Louie, Kevin, and others - were neat, clean, hardworking, friendly, etc. One of them (to remain unnamed!) has been with Stevenson Transfer for 50 years, believe it or not. o Reliability - They showed up when promised 100% of the time, whether it was for the estimate, the packing, the move-out, or even the move in. o Flexibility - They let us pick the move-in dates, while other companies would not (it gets moved in when it arrives). Stevenson simply parked the truck for a week, then headed for Florida 2 or 3 days in advance to make sure they started the move-in on the date we requested (which was critical since my brother flew in to supervise the move). They also dropped part of the shipment off in a storage facility nearby as we requested. o No handoffs to other companies - although another Mayflower crew did the unloading in Florida, Joe (the driver) was there for the entire move and we had no damage (except one vase), despite numerous delicate antiques. Pricing was virtually spot-on with a United Van Lines quote, and we are very happy we chose Stevenson. In fact, my brother plans to use them when he moves out of state next year. Highly recommended. We just used Stevenson Transfer for our out-of-state move. This was the second time we've used them in 3 years. I honestly would not use anyone else! I love that they are family owned and have been in business for 100+ years. Lorna in the business office was able to get us on the moving schedule when we needed to be. She was so friendly and accommodating. Mike, the owner, comes out to your house to inventory your things to give you a quote. He is so friendly and efficient with his inventorying of your belongings. Their quote is based on total weight. We actually came in slightly underweight and got a small refund. Who does that anymore? The crew that came to pack us up -Dave, Shane, Bill and Mark - were awesome! So friendly and super-fast at packing everything. The next day, Dave, Kevin, Shane and Mark came to load the truck. They took such great care with our things. We chitchatted with them while they worked like we were old friends. Such nice guys! Dave and Mark met us up in Minnesota with our things and moved us into our new home. We had a couple mishaps with some wood pieces, that Dave immediately sent pictures of to Mike who told them to bring them back to be fixed. Being of the fix-don't-Buy-new mindset, we were thrilled to say the least. Such honest, hardworking people with great customer service. Any out of state move is stressful but ours was especially so since the planned date moved up 3 weeks without much notice, due to circumstances beyond our control. We also had to clean our house the same day we moved, so that our tenants could move in the next day. Very exhausting and stressful. Our crew was outstanding in terms of both customer service and the physical logistics and the care of our belongings and pets. Our crew included Joe (driver and crew chief), Louis, Pete and Paulie. Our overly protective German Shepherd escaped confinement three times, my fault. I was so embarrassed but they took it all in stride with great sense of humor. They were flexible in order to help us with getting to the cleaning, and in clearing an area where our dogs could have more room. Could not have asked for more considerate and efficient people. I was initially very tired and apprehensive, but after these guys were there for only an hour I knew everything would be OK. Also initial paperwork, communication and organizational tips from Stevenson in general was very helpful. The last half of the move went well also. It's rare that I can't think of some improvement to suggest but this is one of those times. I was referred to Stevenson by another mover, who does only local Chicago moves. From the moment I contacted Stevenson, the experience was never short of outstanding. Amazingly, they were able to come provide an estimate the next day; BIll Stevenson provided a quick, thorough and informative tour and provide a quote within 2 days. The move itself could not have been smoother. The four-person crew in Chicago was efficient, careful, respectful and friendly. I was blown away to find out the delivery was accomplished by a two-person crew. Everything was put in place, items were reassembled, and the crew even offered to relocate furniture once I'd gotten a sense of how the apartment was organized. This is a pre-move review. While I've hired Stevenson Transfer to move my stuff from Chicago to Houston and the move hasn't happened yet, I thought I'd share what my (great) experience with them has been. The politeness and professionalism of every single person in Stevenson Transfer that I've talked to has impressed me. The first one I talked to was Angie, and she has been awesome. Answering all my very basic questions (since I hadn't hired a moving company in the US, or anywhere else for that matter), and also very fast in returning any emails or phone calls with additional questions. I had to scheduled my move in a bit of a rush due to a work transfer, and Angie was extremely helpful in scheduling a visit from Bill Jr, who was right on time for the appointment, and also had the greatest attitude and answered every question I had. As as I said, I was in a rush and they were kind enough to get back to me with a quote that very same day, within hours. I still had more questions after that, which they promptly addressed. I'm highlighting the politeness and attitude of their staff because I did talk to a couple other moving companies and it feels like they think they're doing you a favor just by talking to you. I did get quotes from a couple of cheaper quotes from other companies, but after looking at their reviews on sites like Yelp and others...well, saving a few hundred bucks is not worth getting your stuff held hostage or having to wait for over a month for them. I called the company to get a quote, and they assured me the date I needed to move was available. Bill Stevenson was very personable, but his quote was very high. It left me with a lot of questions. I couldn't get anyone in the office to get answers for me. Then I couldn't get anyone to return my call. Finally Bill called to say they had decided they couldn't schedule my move. When I responded that they had assured me that they could handle my move, he basically said "too bad". He said he would email me some other companies he could recommend. I am still waiting. The man I talked to told me this right away, so I didn't waste any time. He was a little short with me on the phone, but I know it's a major moving season. After doing tons of research and several in home quotes, we chose Stevenson for our move from Chicago to Portland, OR. Bill Jr performed our in-home estimate and was very professional and easily answered any questions we had. We packed almost everything ourselves (except for furniture and a few awkward to wrap items) and when moving day arrived, things went smoothly. The movers were careful to mark every item and took excellent inventory. Our belongings then went into storage in Chicago until we were ready for them in Portland. We were nervous about the amount of times our things needed to be loaded and unloaded (from our home and into storage, out of storage and across the country, off the mayflower truck and onto a smaller truck for delivery - b/c of our location), but our things arrived in perfect condition and on time! Angie (the customer service rep) was with us every step of the way and was always quick to answer our emails and super friendly. In the end, our weight came in under the binding estimate so we ended up getting money back. Overall, it was a great experience and the Stevensons' helped to make our move stress free. I just used Stevenson Transfer (Mayflower) to move from Chicago to Denver and it couldn't have gone better! My stuff arrived in great shape and they were reliable, timely, and delivered exactly what they promised. Was it expensive? Yes. But when it comes to moving your entire household, you really do pay for what you get. They were able to confirm a delivery date in advance (which is the hardest part of cross country moving) and communicated with me before, during and after the move to make sure that I was happy with their service. I am not a big 'yelper' but I felt compelled to write a review because I spent so much time reading through all of them as I was trying to find a mover. Stevenson was great for my move from Chicago to Philadelphia. They came to do an in-home assessment and gave me a ceiling quote that ended up being $350 too high so I got a refund. On the morning of my move they arrived right on time and were very polite and professional. One piece of furniture did get broken, but it was still useable (a desk top that had been connected to its drawers got separated, but they put it back together on my delivery day and it works fine). The driver who picked up my stuff was the same driver who delivered it which was very nice continuity. There was an 8 day period between the pick up and the drop off and they dropped off on my preferred delivery date. Nothing got lost and with the exception of the desk, which still works, and nothing was damaged. This was as little hassle as I could hope for in a cross country move. read more

Wouldn't move anywhere again without them!! I concur with each prior review...unbelievably everything was handled perfectly and I had an exceedingly complex move. I actually had 3 moves in one-one truck was going to Florida, one truck was going to California and one truck (which hasn't been packed up yet so the items can remain to stage the house) will be going intrastate (Illinois) in the near term. Not only did this complicate the quote for Bill-which by the way the 2 quotes were within $50 of the actual weight and I quickly received both REFUNDS (yes, a refund)-but packing and moving day was complicated by the three different ultimate locations. Stevenson personally handled the Florida move from door to door....but they don't physically drive to California so they used an affiliate for that delivery and everything worked perfectly with that move as well. Their packing skills were excellent-I had no damage whatsoever and they even found a third party service to help us unpack in California. We ended up not needing that service because the affiliate that unloaded us in CA even helped us remove the dozen or so art/mirror/glass crates and took them all away for us!! We highly highly recommend Stevenson Transfer and they will cover the entire North Shore of Chicago!!
