All I can say is wow! I visited Steve Blacks this morning on a hunt for a new vacuum. I had already been to another local retailer and was planning on spending $389 on a Riccar. When I visited with Steve's son (soooo nice) he showed me the same vacuum but it was priced almost $100 less than the other business. I couldn't believe it! Not only did I get a great deal but he put it together for me and threw in some extra items for me. I had several recommendations for Steve's. Went today to purchase a new vacuum. Best experience EVER!! Steve immediately greeted us, asked what kind of floors we had as well as if we had pets. Steve didn't try to sell us the most expensive vacuum. We actually asked for what was the next step up. He gave us a great demonstration. He even had dirt and pet hair for us to demo with. They may not be authorized for Dyson repair, but our 1+ year old D18 was literally falling apart (not under warranty anymore), and the Dyson website gives no information on Service Repairs other than 'call our number' - sorry, but in 2012 I fully expect to be able to find what I need on the internets. I researched Dyson and on more than one forums found several people were having one or more issues similar to mine - not just the ball valve but head quit spinning and it won't lock in the upright position. So I took it in for a free estimate (after taking the vacuum apart myself) and they confirmed what I saw but couldn't fix - the ball valve was inoperable. Steve said the total repairs were cost prohibitive and recommended either a full sized Dyson (no way) or an Electrolux canister. We'll probably go in and price an Electrolux from them. My mom has used the same Electrolux for 30+ years. I'm impressed so far by my experiences. Also, the store was packed with customers when I dropped off the Dyson. Shop Local. read more

First time customer here - dropped off my Hoover WindTunnel upright on last Tuesday and picked it up today. My issue with the vacuum was the floor/carpet switch was broken. (As an aside, this has been an issue with this model for at least 10 years, probably longer. The vacuum has to be oriented correctly or the switch breaks. My wife and I learned this the hard way - a couple times! - but we didn't instruct our house cleaner...) Before I was half-way into the store, Steve noticed the broken switch and asked what else I would like him to do. I asked him to check the belts and filters. The vacuum looks like new and runs the same! Total work done: replaced floor/carpet switch, replaced both the drive belt and the brush roller belt, replaced the side (exit) filter with a new HEPA filter. Total bill was $48. Steve and his son are true professionals who price fairly - I'm hooked! read more

I took my Miele upright in on a Tuesday, told them the problem was probably just that it needed a good cleaning out, but I was not in a hurry at all. I should have gotten a quote but I completely forgot because the employee who was helping me was so friendly and happy and making jokes and laughing the whole time and it caught me off guard (in a great way!). I found out later in the week that I would have to work three doubles in a row over the weekend so I called them on Thursday just to let them know that I still wasn't in a hurry to get it back but if it happened to be ready on the weekend I wouldn't be able to pick it up until the next week. The man on the phone said he would take a quick look at it and call me right back. Less than 20 minutes later, I got a phone call and found out I was talking to Steve. He said, "Come pick it up today!" So I headed over there, and he was just as friendly as the other guy, who was there again and remembered me from a couple days ago. They told me it was "dirty dirty dirty gross gross gross" and took a long time to clean out but they replaced the HEPA filter and bag and charcoal filter as well. Cost me a grand total of $65. For a $500 vacuum cleaner, I expected to pay at least twice that. Well done, Steve Black. read more

I took my vacuum in to get the cord replaced and not only did they replace the cord with a better and longer cord, but they also put a new vacuum brush and bag on. Great quality work at a fair price. Turn around in a few day! My unit was nearly 10 years old. Six months ago it was making terriable noises and I thought it was trash. He cleaned it, replaced the belt and a few filters and it works like new. He said it should last another 10 years but reccommended another cleaning/service every few years since I had dogs but it was up to me. Steve Black and his family are a jewel of the North Texas small business community. I came today looking for a new cordless vacuum and Steve and his son were so helpful and kind. This is the second vacuum I've bought from Steve and his passion for vacuums is infectious!! It's hilarious because I never thought I would become passionate about vacuums. He threw fake animal fur on the floor so I could see for myself how the vacuum would take it. While I was there examining the vacuums, people came in (masked thankfully) and he knew all their names and greeted everyone warmly. Even though everyone was masked and it's harder to gauge facial cues, you couldn't help but feel the warm kindness emanating from the shop. I went in to Steve Black's Vacuums for the first time this week to see what was wrong with my old Dyson vacuum cleaner and the owner, Steve Black, was so friendly, helpful, informative & polite...and his shop was so orderly and clean... I knew right away that I really liked him! He quickly pinpointed that the problem with my Dyson was a simple short in the 'start' button and he was ready to do the repair for me on the spot. However, after asking Steve about his new Sanitaire vacuums, I opted to get rid of my Dyson I've had trouble with for years and buy a new Sanitaire! He was very fair with me on price (cost was less than a Dyson) and he even threw in a couple of carpet cleaning products free of charge. He's been in the business since the 70's and his son works with him and is just as polite and customer oriented as his dad is! I've bought three vacuum's from him over the past 17 years and have never had to replace them. About a year and a half ago, I took my mother in who needed a new vacuum cleaner. She had been having hip trouble and Steve didn't want to sell her the two higher end vacuum's she was looking at because the suction power on them might be hard on her hip. She ended up buying the lower end one and is very happy with it. He and his son always greet us and know we are repeat customers. I've been a customer at Steve Black's Vacuums for about 10 years now. (Maybe even longer) I've bought 2 vacuums from them, and have brought the one I use daily in for service a couple times. (Nothing major was needed. My cleaning ladies like to crush the hose, and today I needed to have a new plug put on it.) Steve and his son are so welcoming! They have a smile for everyone who walks in the door and even though I don't come in often at all, they always recognize me. Steve and his son have gone out of their way numerous times to help make my vacuum "cleaning lady proof." They've put on an industrial strength hose so it couldn't be crushed, they ordered a new wheel when one broke, and they replaced the plug for me. Because I drive over 45 minutes to get to them, they always do their best to service my vacuum while I wait. You can always guarantee that their prices will be extremely fair..... and several times they didn't even charge me for the work that was done. I trust Steve Blacks Vacuums 100%. They won't try sell you things that you don't need, they are curteous to everyone, repairs are always done lightning fast, and they are incredibly friendly. There aren't many businesses I would drive that far to get to, but Steve Black's is definitely one of them. As long as I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area, Steve will always have my business. Took in my vacuum for a new cord. Got a quote of $30. When I went to pick it up, I was told it had needed a new belt, filter and bag. I thought "oh no, now what's all that going to cost me?" These guys are very kind and will definitely do their very best to assist you. They fixed my vacuum but it broke a second time shortly after and when I brought it back, they were very apologetic and didn't charge me to fix it again. Dyson Owners beware!!! Steve Black is NOT a certified Dyson Repair Shop and will NOT tell you when your Dyson is still under warranty. I took my Dyson to him at least 5 times with the same problem. He gladly charged me $40 each time when he should have known that this was a manufacturers defect and under warranty. Took my Dyson to Allen Vacuum where they repaired it correctly once and for all for FREE! I am incensed that Steve took my money and when asked why this problem kept happening just repeated over and over "That's just Dyson's for you!". I am outraged that I spent over $300 on repairs that were for something that was still under warranty. Shame on me for not calling Dyson directly. Shame on Steve for not referring me to a Dyson warranty repair shop and selling me after market parts to boot!!! read more

Outstanding service, incredibly friendly, and helpful to a fault. When I came to get my vacuum repaired, I was new to Texas. A store associate saw me pull up, patiently waited for me to get out of my car and rushed over to help me get my vacuum out of the back seat. Then I was quickly checked in and without even blinking was told since my vacuum was under warranty there was no reason to try repair. They save me time and money and requested the vacuum company to expedite a whole new vacuum and had it ready for me to pick up within a matter of days. Talk about superior service. I really like Steve Black's. I've gone there for years. Once, after having been away for three years, I went back (we had briefly lived in San Antonio)--he remembered me... AND my vacuum cleaner (brand, model). Amazing. He is slick--he'll sell you something before you know what hit you, but it's always a top-notch product that he will stand behind forever. He won't try to sell you something you don't need, by the way.
