I bought my vacuum in for a full service. The rubber belt had split. The guy told me all I really need a was a new belt and a bar ( spinning thing) . He explained the filter was clean the bag was basically new. This is not our main vacuum, and is rarely use. I appreciate the fact that he didn't upsell things I didn't need. I called a competing vacuum repair store in Plano looking to repair a small bushing/wheel on a Dyson Motörhead. The first guy I called said you can't repair it so I need to buy another one for $150. I then went to Steve's shop and he said to leave it with him for a week or so and he'd see if he could fix it. He called me back a week later and said he fixed it and said it was "no charge". I went to Steve Blacks Vacuums to see if they could repair my Shark Model #LZ602 31stick vacuum cleaner that had stopped working. Steve said that while they don't service Shark products (basically because they're cheap and are virtually a disposable vacuum), to leave it with him, and maybe he could get it working again. After a few days, he called back and said he did get it working and with the parts, the bill came to $49. It looked brand new when I picked it up. When my Shark finally quits working for good, I'm coming back to buy something he does service because I've never been treated so fairly and honestly and I know I'll get a reliable vacuum that I don't have to go to a big box store for or buy it from Amazon Prime. Steve Blacks Vacuums is THE place to go to get your vacuums cleaned and repaired. I don't live anywhere near him, but I will drive to get to him! Yes, you heard me right! Your vacuum needs regular cleaning maintenance! Keeping it clean will improve the performance as well as the life of your vacuum. I've gone to him several times for both a "regular" old fashioned vacuum (with bag) where he cleaned it, replaced the wheels that broke (I know, how did I use it with broken wheels?) as well as the fancy cordless Dyson bagless type which actually needs pretty frequently cleaning to keep the suction tunnels (not sure if that's the right word) clean to maintain optimum suction. On top of being an expert in his field, charging REALLY good prices, he and his staff are RIDICULOUSLY KIND and POLITE! Right now they will meet you outside ... but even before this past year if he saw you unloading they would rush out to help you. Such kind and respectful people! read more

I will state, first off, that I have never used Steve Black's for repair work, so I have no opinion on that aspect of the business....but then again I probably never will since I fix my own vacuum. But I have been going to Steve Black's for years. The first time I went in was solely because I had looked everywhere for a replacement belt, and I spotted this store on the way back home after a fruitless search around town. I had company coming in the next day, and was desperate to clean up before they got there. It was 10 minutes past closing, but Steve cheerfully opened back up for me. He had the belt, and even told me that he would make sure that he kept a couple in stock even though there wasn't much call for that model...and he has. He's always friendly, remembers who I am, asks about my kids and never tries to push me into buying the upscale vacuums he sells in his shop. This place is like a crooked car repair place that tries to charge you outrageous prices for repairs you don't need. I needed a nut put back in place on my steam cleaner. Steve himself said I needed a new compressor and refused to look at it. I explained I had only bought it a week ago and I had forced the nut out myself and didn't have the tools to open the case and replace it. He insisted it was a bad compressor and it would cost upwards of $180.00 to repair! Steve is rude and a scam artist! Avoid this place, avoid getting ripped off! read more

I have been dealing with several vacuum cleaner businesses in several cities for the last 20 years. I work in Facilities management, and my maid service needs fast efficient vacuum cleaner repairs. The best service I have ever received was from Steve Black. He is honest, efficient, and has reasonable prices. I know of no issues except he tries to steer you away from crappy vacuums that he knows will break and not serve you well in the long run. I personally bought a Sanitaire from him when I moved to Dallas to replace my Eureka. He showed me both in action proving the superiority of his recommendation. I appreciate it and the fact that my vacuum has been a really great purchase. Shop around, but at least try Steve's shop. Apparently Steve hasn't had the training to repair rug cleaners. I brought my cleaner in and he gave me this long, crazy story about how no one is able to repair them. I knew he was lying but he told such a fantastic story that I didn't know what to say. I was thinking - you mean we can land something on Mars, but no one can fix a rug cleaner? He shook his head sadly and told me I'd better rent a Rug Doctor. Instead I took it to another repair shop. It works fine now. Off on Friday, he told me there was like a 20% chance he could fix it but promised to call me and let me know in a timely manner. The customer service is supreme, and I enjoyed that they explained to me what was wrong, how it happened, and how to prevent/fix it in the future. The fees were super cheap. I thought my cord was bad, and was quoted $40. After they inspected it, they said it wasn't my cord, but that my belt and roller needed to be replaced. I inherited a Kirby vacuum from my mother in law and my wife absolutely loves it. We needed a new belt and while I knew I could do the repair myself, I thought, this would be a great time to get a tune up. I looked Steve up on Frisco Online and called him up. He was extremely friendly and I thought fairly affordable. I brought the vacuum in and had it back in a one business day. I've never met a friendlier shop owner. It is a family run shop, as his son was the one who greeted me and provided me with the final result. Although they did repair an item without asking my permission, it was low cost and it didn't bother me that they went the extra step. It is hard to find customer service like this and again, this was my first and only experience at the shop, but thought it was interesting that others called it a crooked car repair place.
