Had a great dinner. Enjoyed the quiet and dim lit environment. I enjoyed the pistachio crusted salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes with a pretty edible flower on top. My partner enjoyed the steak with the best house vegetable medley; more impressive than any veggie medley I've ever seen ever! Just a quick update, I came to the Steer hoping they brought their Tom and Jerry back.... they didn't but i still had a great time,lol. Instead I ordered their hot apple that definitely made me feel warm and toasty. I was very pleased with this drink because it very well balanced, not too sweet nor did taste strong. I was initially going to get wings and fries but when I saw they had cauliflower crust pizza I knew I had to give it try. They wings saucy and crispy as usual, but this pizza was excellent, I had to ask the bartender did he put in the right order. Last night was no different, Joe (server) was excellent! The food as always was very good too! We started with our favorite app, the calamari w/ chili sauce. It is lightly sautéed and delicious ! Grandson had grilled cheese off the kid menu and said it was the best he's ever had! My husband enjoyed his wood fired pizza and I liked my topless burger; burger served on a dressed salad . I'm a little mixed on my review here. Our visit wasn't bad but nothing exciting that would make me want to go back any time soon. Initial impression was the offputting from the gas torches outside the entrance. We stopped here on a Sunday evening so didn't expect much of a crowd. The bar was pretty much empty and the dining area had people at only 3 tables. Sort of a weird atmosphere. We ordered a couple of wood fired pizzas. First was the caprese pizza with mozzarella cheese, tomato, basil, and topped with a balsamic reduction. The other had chicken, artichoke, provolone cheese, and banana peppers. Both were thin crusts which I like. The caprese was good with the balsamic reduction which I normally don't associate with pizza but I preferred the chicken. The combination of artichokes and banana peppers gave it a bit of a different flavor that I enjoyed. And the chicken wasn't dried out which often happens with chicken strips. Our server was pleasant enough. Nice surprise when we got our bill and saw that the chicken pizza was included as a $6 happy hour special that runs until 7:00. The food was good. If you're wondering if The Steer is the same place after reopening after COViD, I'm here to tell you it's not! First of all we ordered some food and an appetizer. There were three other people in there at the bar - the waitresses appeared to be having a good time with them. Along with the kitchen staff who would occasionally come out to chat. Meanwhile, it had been 45 minutes and we were wondering where our appetizer was - shrimp cargot. Well a few minutes later our MAIN COURSES came out. I asked the waitress where our app was. At first she said it must of went to another table. Then she came back and said the chef burned it and they were making another. Frustrating, to say the least. Eventually it came out and it was nothing special - 5 frozen (sure seemed like it) shrimp covered in butter. Once we got the bill we realized one of the mixed drinks we ordered was $15 a pop. He had two of them. Seems a little crazy when it was a Malibu cocktail made with grenadine. We didn't notice any price on the menu.. obvi we wouldn't of bought it. The Cesar salad with steak wasn't anything special. The medium steak added to it seemed more like it was rare.. or killed behind the restaurant, but I digress. The Cajun chicken Alfredo was the only decent thing we ordered - but we could of gotten that at Olive Garden. The wait staff couldn't care less that we were there. Celebration of dear friends in their wedding reception! Top floor was beautifully put together with social distancing involved. Very small gathering and food was delicious! The staff were professional and welcoming towards party! Haven ? was 1 of the bartenders who made awesome drinks and also made suggestions if I wasn't too sure of my choice of spirit! Top floor is really nice! Many of us didnt know it even existed! Majority of us came to the decision of coming back and doing future events! While I don't think they are operating during COVID-19, I am missing their vegan friendly menu and nachos. Their nachos were definitely delicious, comfort food that I'm missing. Today is August 2, 2022 and the Steer is reopened. I want to make a comment about how incredible the staff is today at accommodating us. We needed an east table to access after a broken ankle incident and they went out of their way to show us the ramp, conveniently located right at the parking lot, and opened the patio doors so we could grab a table super close to the car. That type of kindness makes evenings go smoothly. I have tremendous appreciation for the host & waitress duo who made everything go smoothly. I went to the Steer for brunch with a group of friends and family for my birthday. The restaurant itself is nice and I liked the atmosphere. We were seated in the back room which allowed a lot of natural light in. We started with a carafe of mimosas because, brunch. And those were great. I ordered the Chesapeake eggs Benedict which are eggs Benedict with crab cakes. I sadly did not enjoy these eggs benny and it's one of my favorite brunch meals. The hollandaise was too thick and lemony and the crab cake tasted reheated. The potatoes were great - full of flavor. I also tried a few of my friends hot wings and those were amazing! I've been to the Steer a couple times now. One would think, given the name, this would be a haven for only meat-eaters. But, wisely, the Steer has a pretty inclusive menu with clearly marked (and delicious!) vegan and gluten-free options. You won't have to pick at a salad while everyone else happily devours apps and then proceeds to oooh and ahhh over their entrees. Both times I've been here I've started with the vegan potato skins. They're so delicious my meat-eating BF couldn't tell they were vegan. My BF ordered a burger this time but said the actual burger lacked flavor. Last time he had lamb chops which he really enjoyed. I appealed to our waiter to help me decide between the vegan meatball pizza and the lentil loaf. He highly recommended the lentil loaf, so I decided to order it and wasn't disappointed! It tasted just like my mom's meat loaf, only cruelty-free and without the animal fat to clog up my arteries. The two sides I chose were the chickpea tots and mixed veggies. The tots were not very pleasant to look at, but wow, with the dipping sauce they were amazing! My meal was extremely filling, I even passed up dessert. We also ordered one drink apiece as it was happy hour (even on a Saturday!!). Also, they offer some $6 apps during happy hour, which was a great deal. We will definitely be back! This is the very same restaurant that inspired the song "Stop And Steer" by OneRepublic. I wonder how much they paid for the advertising. I also wonder how much they pay Missy - my fave waitress here and a popular Yelper - because it should be a hell of a lot. She's the reason I came here, and the reason a lot of other people come back. She's just that awesome. What to order: Burger, Griddled Mac n Cheese. What else: Anything off the menu, including extensive Vegan menu. In any case, I took Missy's advice and came by to try the burger. She did not "Steer" me wrong. It was one of the better burgers in town. Juicy, filling, and a 5-star effort. I got the basic burger to keep the price under $10 (burgers are in general so overpriced these days!) and it filled my burger needs. While it wasn't at the very top of my "Buffalo burger" list, it definitely hit the spot, and I'd come back here and try some of their other adventurous-looking dishes, and I would also bring a certain Vegan Goddess that I adore here, because their Vegan menu looks interesting, inventive, and appetizing. If it were "The Store" then it would just be a glorified 7-11. But it's so not. The outside is dramatic and memorable, with fiery torches of flames adorning the exterior. You can see them all the way down Main St. The atmosphere of the place is lovely, with a large bar full of excited and exciting college kids, plus some older regulars, and a seating area for those who'd rather just enjoy a meal. Plus they have Missy, and you can't go wrong when you have Missy. If it were "The Star" then Wise Men would come here bearing gifts for that Latino guy, Jesus. But it's seriously not. The owner (Curtin) is the same guy that runs Lake Effect Diner next door, which is one of the most delicious diners in WNY, but very overpriced. Steer has similar prices, but it's a place you'd expect to have higher prices, unlike L.E.D. Several of the highlights of the LED menu such as the griddled mac n cheese, can also be found here. There's a lot of negativity about the owners, due to food-truck-opposition a good friend just told me, which is a shame, since the food at both places is excellent. I disagree with the food-truck-opposition but I'm not going to stop coming to either of his places because of it. I'm a big fan of the food, for sure, and he seems like a good guy. But I'm definitely on the "food trucks ftw" side of the fence. If it were "The Spear" then it would be an Olympic Javelin Practice Facility, but it's totally not. I've noticed lots of nice responses from Curtin on the L.E.D. page and also on the Steer page. He seems to be handling his critics and fans well, without being accusatory or confrontational, and I appreciate that. I got a nice note from him in response to this review which I appreciated. My two criticisms are of (a) his prices at L.E.D. which make me a once-a-year customer instead of a twice-a-month customer, and (b) some of his staff at L.E.D. who are so rude, inattentive and neglectful that it explains a lot of the negative ratings, moreso if you read those reviews. What I don't like is that someone is waging a campaign against L.E.D. with 33 filtered, fake reviews from people with 0 friends and 1 review, giving L.E.D. 1 star. I have no idea who is doing that, but it's more likely to make me want to support the place than avoid it, and it irks me that people do that sort of thing. If it were "The Smear", it would be doing the same thing to other businesses, but thankfully, it's totes not. But that's all about the L.E.D. and not about the Steer which is a great place to drink, looks great on the outside and inside, has a surprisingly ambitious food menu, has excellent burgers, has at least one wonderful waitress/bartender (hi Missy!), and even more impressively, has an excellent Vegan menu. And if it were "The Sheer", it would sell stockings, whereas if it were "The See-er" it would be full of psychics, and if it were "The Skier" it would have a bunch of Austrians, Swiss, Norwegians and Swedes inside (from opening time until Finnish), but alas, it's definitively none of those things. read more

This place is appropriate for all ages during breakfast lunch and dinner hours. They do turn up and party after 9. Be prepared to be ID'd at the door. We called last minute and got reservations so that was a good sign. Our waitress was very polite her service was great. The drinks are a bit pricey I'll say. At least $10 a pop besides some wines and most beer. My boyfriend ordered was the philly steak soup appetizer which was phenomenal came with crackers. I got the french onion soup. French Onion soup was so CHEESEY. More cheese than actual soup but the flavor was spot on so I gave a pass. The macaroni and cheese tastes like REAL baked mac and cheese if you know what I mean a side is $7. Fish fry is HUGE and will definitely fill you up. I got the Blackened Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Alfredo. For me it was a nice portion. The chicken was good and flavorful and the shrimp was buttered, peppered and salted. One interesting thing, that those who drink tea know, is that the "iced tea" tastes differently at each location depending on whether its real tea that they brew, or the syrup stuff from the soda dispenser. This tea seem like a freshly brewed black tea. The steak was great, although a bit undercooked (which seems to be the norm everywhere-- I think all the chefs have a dark alliance to undercook meat because they all think it tasted better rare -- drives me crazy.) The Average: The service was average. She had 3+ tables, and each table seemed to have 6+ so I completely understand. The Bad: Nothing I can recall. How could it have been a 5 star review? Had to pay a cover fee and get a wristband (that's fine) but when we left they wouldn't let us back in even though we paid and had wristbands on. It was overcrowded. They let underage kids in. This place was amazing! I went there for dinner and there was ample space inside. The inside is dimly lit and has a nice atmosphere. There's also outside seating available. The food was great: big portion sizes, filling, and everything was well-seasoned. Some were better than others though. I wasn't a fan of their mac and cheese, which was a bit dry and too heavy. I hate replies that think they are so perfect that it must have been my fault somehow. I keep coming back to this place for reasons I can't really put my finger on. I just like it. It is on Main St where the traffic can be heavy, but there's a good-sized parking lot. I've never really been there for the bar part, but it seems like a great space for that. The menu changes from time to time, which is nice to see. There's great vegetarian options too- more than usual for a restaurant like this. The only downside is the mishmash of chairs and tables. Some are wobbly, some are too tall, some too short...it's odd and can be comfortable. There is outdoor seating in the warm months too! read more

I came on a non traditional club night so it wasn't super busy. While sitting at the bar, the bartenders were nice and attentive. I did get food, but while looking at the menu it was so hard to figure out what to get. So many items sounded really good, and I liked that they had a lot vegetarian and vegan options. I decided on the Po Boy and I was not disappointed. The flavors came together very well and it was a good amount of food all together. It came with fries, and thankfully, the sandwich wasn't just a bunch of bread. The bathrooms were a nice size and clean. The interior of the actual venue was a nice design and had cute fireplaces. I get cold easily and it was nice to not freeze the whole time I was there. As soon as you walk in, it's warm which allows you to defrost on cold Buffalo nights.
