This whole restaurant just screams average. The decor is average, food average, cleanliness average. There was only one lady working the whole front of house. You order up at the bar they where out of a few things but nothing major. They give you tiny tiny tinyyyy little glasses for your drink. We started with the garlic bread hedgehog. It was tasted but not something I'd come back here for. I also got the sweet heat burger with sweet fries. Again all very average. Stopped in on a Thursday evening for a beer and some appetizers. The place is within Whole Foods and was not crowded. Played a couple games of pool before sitting at the bar. The billiard table closed at 7pm to stage a two hour trivia contest. A number of people arrived for the contest filling the bar. Staff was attentive and friendly as we ordered. The atmosphere is very casual and as you might expect first class. They have a nice selection of beer on tap and an ok appetizer menu. Food came out promptly, ordered wings and frings, the wings were ok but small. The frings (fries and onion rings) were good , came with two sauces. I havent tried a lot of menu items here but I will vouch for their margaritas. They are small but pack a punch. You can expect to pay $10 per drink so I will usually stop for only one when I'm feeling up for it. The bar is clean and modern along with the dining seating. When you're hangry but you need to shop. Stop and have a drink and order some food. There's a nice long list of local micro brews and Kombucha from Barrel and Brine on tap. Also they notify you when the tap lines were last cleaned (thank you). Ten days ago/- not bad! Try the Elder Flower rose kombucha! Delish! The menu is pretty broad, lots of veggie options and nice selection of snacks. My salad was good and no Complaints. The restaurant itself is comfortable with fresh flowers on the table (nice touch). Next to, and accessible from, Whole Foods is this cafe/burger joint/ bar. It's large and has all sorts of seating, and a full bar. The menu has some local goods on it, which is great. That partnering will be appreciated by all of us. It's open and bright. Very comfortable and relaxed all around. There were both shoppers and lunchers only when I was here. There is some outside seating here too. A few TVs show games, but on low or mute. No loud radio either. It's a smaller menu which I gather they will be modifying as needed. It isn't the cheapest menu around but it's ok. Weirdly the fireplace was on this 80degree September day. It'll probably make more sense in December. I can see this place being a success. My cheeseburger was served with a couple of thick pickle slices and a mini- mountain of crinkle cut fries. The burger was cooked to medium rare and was almost hot when served. It was very good, although I would have liked it a bit hotter, temperature-wise. This seems like a very nice place to go sit and eat either before or after grocery shopping. Chicken wings (Texas BBQ) are WACK and I'm positive all their wings are similar. Cauliflower tacos were cool , different but the tortillas were cold and diminished the meal. We really wanted to like this place but ended up disappointed. We like to stop by Whole Foods every now and then to get a few fun cheeses or desserts so we decided to try Bar 1818. It's an attractive, casual setup with various seating options and even a pool table. You order at the bar and then food is delivered to your table. The one real positive throughout our experience was the service - the cashier helpfully explained a few menu options, and the waitress was very attentive despite it not being a traditional table service setup. Unfortunately that's where the positives end - we ordered two classic burgers with regular fries and sweet potato fries, an app of Buffalo wings, and a chocolate shake. The Buffalo wings and shake were average - not great, but a mediocre version that's at least not actively unpleasant to eat. The burgers were VERY disappointing. They looked good and the buns were high quality, but the burgers themselves were so dry. I don't know if the meat mix is incredibly lean or what, but our burgers were not juicy or flavorful at all despite us ordering them medium rare and rare. Overall led to a really disappointing meal. We might return at some point and try something else on the menu, but honestly there are such numerous food options in the immediate area that we probably won't risk it. read more

I have to admit, I wasn't too excited to go to the bar at whole foods when my wife suggested it for lunch over the weekend. Turns out, this bar is great! Decent beer selection ($6 for every pint - mostly local offerings) cocktails, wine, ciders, boozy milkshakes. They advertise when their tap lines were cleaned last, in this case it was a week ago. I had to stop in to pick up from the Amazon Locker, which is really convenient in itself, packages arrive earlier. I was walking out and looked at the menu board and decided "Why not?" I'd always wanted to try this. When I entered I was the only customer, so I walked up to the bar and double checked the menu. I ordered the Black & Blue burger with a side of fries. The fries were a side order, $3.00 but you only live once right? I sat down and looked over the list of local brews then rather quickly my food came. On looks this was a fine burger, over a half inch thick, dressed with fresh greens and the roll was fresh and not flattened. Definitely passed the eye test. The burger was juicy, not greasy and the flavor was great. The meat was very fresh and the Black and Blue were present but not overwhelming. Fries were crisp, not greasy and plentiful. Price was slightly higher than most similar places, but the quality justifies it in my belief. Will definitely return to try other items. Menu and pricing deceiving, if you ask for sides they are not an upcharge but full price and they leave out the original sides... even when I asked to keep them if its a full side charge. Broiled fish was way over done and soo very small and dry, one skinny little dried out fish on a huge empty plate. Mashed potatoes (3.99) cold and dry. Tuna was ok... but it comes with literally nothing for $15.99 .. soy sauce is the side, my wife requested 2 sides thinking they came with.. nope, $3.99 for small bowl of rice, $3.49 for little broccoli. I went there with a couple of friends to have a beer. It is a nice and roomy bar area, a modern look like the Whole Foods store. There are 12 beers on tap, all local ones! Very impressed with this cute little restaurant! Before a long grocery shopping haul at Whole Foods I decided to stop and grab some dinner and the options are very intriguing. I may plan on spending some summer afternoons here solely for their boozy milkshakes and buffalo cauliflower bites! My first time here I opted for a veggie burger that had a spicy jalapeño mayo, cilantro and cheese- definitely a wonderful blend and highly recommend. Probably my favorite basic burger is lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard or mayo depending on my mood, pickle on the side. After a walk around Whole Foods Market I ambled into the1818 bar in the front of the store. I am glad I did because they have a decent happy hour. Chicken wings and a draft for $10 sounded like a good price and it filled the bill. Actually there is a happy hour menu that shows various bites from fries and rings to hummus crudites dips. Also wines and or craft beers pick any two for ten dollars. The two wines today were sauvignon blanc and merlot. The beers were many about a dozen or so local draft beers of all types. The order of wings came with a choice of buffalo, soy ginger or honey mustard. I went with buffalo a anchor bar buttery piquant kind of sauce. The wings came out fast and hot and they didn't disappoint. There were about ten pieces of carrots and celery with a dip of which I couldn't tell if was ranch or blue cheese or a mix of both. I didn't have the time to inquire about this dip further but it was suspect at best. I will have to return tomorrow to follow up my investigation. The beer I selected was a bock beer a crisp cold clean dark refreshing dark beer that was satisfying. Service was quick and pleasant the folks at the bar were amicable. I will follow up on the review later. I have to learn more about the dip that accompanied the wings. read more

I wasn't expecting much based on previous reviews, so I figured why not give it a try. My buddy and I were in the mood for good burgers. First, I really was impressed with the ambiance - it's like a large hang-out room where you can either sit at a table in a large or small group, plus there's there's a corner area with a fireplace, flat screen TV and multiple seats with a table in the middle where you can hang out with some friends. Did I forget to mention there's even a pool table? The menu is not very large, but they they have a decent sized beer menu featuring lots of local breweries. The burger menu is not large but I was liked what they had to offer - I tried the black and blue burger - YUM. Good amount of flavor, tender, and warm. The fries were also very good. The only negative is that it can be difficult to get the attention of someone behind the counter to take your order, but this shouldn't be difficult for the restaurant to fix. They at least were kind to us and brought our burgers to our table. I'll definitely go back again sometime! read more

I am one that enjoys going out to eat and enjoy a new and completely different dining experience each time, but for some reason this place didn't leave a good impression one me. Located inside the new Whole Foods Market that opened up (I know it because this Market in General has been the main sponsor for the James Beard and Emmy Award winning show Top Chef for the entire Series). The Foodie in me was screaming on the inside wanting to come here, I was like a Kid in a Candy Store. After spending over an Hour walking around the Store and looking at all the different Ingredients, we headed over there its located on the left side of the Store. We saw menus on a little stand outside and we looked it over and we thought the food looked interesting. We walked in and there was no sign saying either (Please wait to be seated or Seat yourself). So we just sat ourselves in the middle of the Dining Room next to the pool table (which I gotta say that I saw some of the workers playing instead of tending to Customers, none of them came over to greet us). Instead of someone coming over to take our order we had to go up to the Counter and place our order and they brought it to our Table. The girl who brought it over, her name was Karen (very energetic, Big Smile). While deciding I asked her where the eatery got its named, she said that it was named Bar 1818 was because that was the year the Amherst area was established as a Town. We started off with some drinks (Non-Alcoholic) Dad got a Lemon-Lime Soda and I got an Organic Root Beer (they were good, not overly Sweet). For our Lunc Dad got an order of Wings (choice between Bangkok, Tokyo, Santa Fem Montego Bay or Buffalo). He chose Bangkok (a dozen wings for 8 Bucks) baked to Perfection in the oven then glazed with a Thai Chili sauce and topped with Peanuts and Scallions (It had that Crispy Skin while the meat was tender inside). I got the Harvest Salad (Arugula, Braised Radicchio, Honeycrisp Apple, Roasted Butternut Squash, Brussel Sprouts and Marcona Almonds), So much going on in this Salad. Mild peppery flavor from the Arugula, Tartness from the Apple, Sweetness from the Squash, Bitterness from the Raddichio, Nutty Crunch from the Almonds and the Sprouts were left whole and it has a meaty texture to it. I just didn't like that they left the ends on the Sprouts instead of cutting them off, it was a really good Salad. I also ordered some Nashville Hot Chicken Sliders topped with pickles from Barrel & Brine (courtesy of RJ & Lindsey Marvin, I wanted to get them to show respect to them). But Karen forgot to put the order in (she even said that she forgets to do it, not something to tell your customers, better to keep that to yourself). We waited 10 minutes for them and when we told her about it she tried giving them to us Free of Charge, so between waiting for the Check and the "Free Sliders" we waited less than 15 minutes. I hate being ignored like that, service is one of the 5 Key Elements to running a successful restaurant (there's also Food, Décor, Concept and Ambience). You got to make sure that your customers are attended to, I don't think my Dad would eat in here again, I say if I decide to come back it'll probably be with someone else and I hope to have a better experience. I really enjoyed the atmosphere at the new restaurant located in the Whole Foods on Sheridan road. You truly forgot that you were in a grocery store atmosphere. There's a pool table and fire place inside, with some large TV's and oversized couches to sit and relax. The bar is cozy, with TVs and soft lighting. Very enjoyable. We went for lunch, and split a salad and a burger, with a few drinks. The beet salad was just OK, too heavily dressed but still edible. The burger was delicious, flavorful, and very filling. It came with fries, which looked frozen (not fresh). Our drinks were delicious and the bar staff was friendly and attentive. The downside is that there is a small menu. I asked about them potentially expanding into brunch, they said that corporate would have to authorize it, and they weren't sure. I wouldn't run back there unless I had a craving for a burger, or maybe a small appetizer and a drink. But aside from the small menu, a great option and worth stopping by. read more

I always enjoy going here because the decor is nice and the wait staff is always friendly. While we've never had the food here I certainly would because it always looks good. We have been here a couple of times now for drinks, because my wife really likes their margarita. I'm more of a beer guy so I try to stick to that and I'll say while their selection is small, it's usually pretty good in its variety. Having tried the margarita (variety being the spice of life and all) I can say that it's just OK to me. In my opinion it's not exactly worth the price they're charging (if I remember correctly it was something like $10). I did some shopping at Whole Foods tonight with two of my girlfriends. When we finished our shopping we decided to check out 1818. We sat down at the bar not really knowing what to expect. The woman working behind the bar promptly greeted us and gave us a menu. Her name was Karen and she was incredibly helpful. We were delighted to see our local breweries on the menu! We decided on some drinks and sat back to enjoy the company and the atmosphere. Karen regularly checked on us throughout our visit. We stayed until close. When Karen brought us our checks we got into a conversation about the Whole Foods establishment as well as 1818. She was a wealth of knowledge and we enjoyed learning about all the wonderful things Whole Foods & 1818 have to offer. Overall, a 5 star first experience. We will definitely be back! read more

it takes a real unskilled professional to undercook french fries. the burger was good but they only offer a real meat burger and a fake meat burger. the real beef burger was really good hence the 3 stars. if the french fries had been cooked all of the way this could have gotten a better rating. the chicken sandwich is just on par and nothing special, same with the fish. read more

One of my best friend always going to this bar . First time she told me to go I checked on google and I told her, they have $$$ and she was like No it is not expensive at all and that was so true! The meat was absolutely awful that I have to take the meat out of my sandwich and just eat the bread and Lettuce and tomatoes that was a big surprise! While they just have burger in the menus you expect them to have really good burger but it is what it is. In other hand their drink is super good. I had a margarita and I can easily say that was one of the best margaritas I've ever had. The onion rings was so good. Salad was good. Wish my burger was good, while it look delicious :( The other thing is some how they just charge u for the food no spot for tips so u need to have cash for tips. First time here as a mood boost after the doctors, let me say it did not disappoint. The menu is small, but succinct with various flavors and options available. You can change up an item if you have an allergy. I went for the Standard Burger which comes with a side of fries, onion rings, or salad - of course I went for the French fries! The ambiance is warm and inviting, it's a place I WISH I could have built into my home - very clean, spacious and accommodating. It didn't take long for our food to arrive. The presentation was BEAUTIFUL. The meat on the burger was cooked perfectly, shredded lettuce, tomato, cheese and special sauce (hella yummy) was to die for and huge (larger than many burger places I've been to and VERY fresh!). They give a great helping of French fries which made me super happy and paired it with Barrel & Brine bread and butter pickles (yum and huge!). Had to take some home with me because it was a large portion. Would definitely stop back in here again. In the future I would split one portion with a friend and grab a drink. The setting is a really cute and open floor plan. We sat down and the bartender brought us menus and water and let us know to go order at the bar when ready. We decided on the chicken sliders and Bangkok chicken wings. The chicken wings had a nice sweet flavor. It would have been nice if the peanuts were crushed a bit versus just throwing them on the plate as is. Regardless, the flavor was good. The chicken sliders were awful. First, they looked burned. If we had known they were fried chicken we would not have ordered them. There were 3 sliders with fried chicken thighs, which I prefer breasts. They tasted weird and were super greasy. I can't describe the flavor, but it was not pleasant at all. I couldn't force more than one down and my husband hates to waste food so he ate the other two. I'm not a huge fan of the restaurant in a grocery store concept, and so I was skeptical heading into Bar 1818. Despite that, I could not have been more pleased with my experience at Bar 1818. My husband and I sat at the bar, where there is ample seating. There are also quite a few tables, a cozy fireplace to sit by and a pool table. We both ordered burgers. They were fantastic, huge and juicy and made with very tasty grass fed beef. The sweet potato and waffle fries we ordered were perfectly crisp. The waffle fries were outrageously good, as in, I could have eaten two orders of them alone. Our food came out fast, which was nice, and the chef came out to check on things - also nice. When I ordered my burger, I was given the option to have vegan cheese, along with the regular cheeses. This impressed me. I've recently had to go dairy free, and high on the list of foods I miss is cheese. Being able to have dairy free cheese on my burger really made me smile. The margarita was decent. The milkshakes, however, lend a fun vintage feel to the spot and were delicious. After we ate, we picked up a few things in this store, which was nice. If you are in the area, definitely stop here for lunch or dinner. I recommend the burgers.
