This Starbucks is well set up for grab and go orders. There's a walk up window, so you don't even have to go inside, and the mobile order pickup area was clean and easy to use. They also had plenty of snacks, merchandise, and the Chicago mug available. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that all seating is outdoors. That's understandable for a city location, but it would be nice to have indoor seating for people who want to bring a laptop and stay awhile. I also appreciated seeing the Pride flag displayed and employees wearing pronoun pins on their aprons, which helped create a welcoming atmosphere. read more

Terrible customer service. Walked in early morning and the two baristas were too busy with mobile orders to greet us or acknowledge us at all. I understand the staff is busy, but at least recognize the walk-in customers and say "Be with you in a minute." Nothing at all. Waited ten minutes -- without a word or eye contact from the staff -- and went to Stan's Donuts where it was also busy, but the staff managed to be friendly and made great coffee. read more

Important note: review left during COVID restrictions in Illinois. This is probably one of the worst Starbucks experiences I've had. I get that there are steps places need to take, especially those as required by Illinois orders, but this place goes above and beyond to make sure any welcoming Starbucks is known for is eradicated. The Starbucks corporation should be ashamed too... My father was in town visiting and has always been a loyal patron to Starbucks, especially since me and my siblings probably have 15+ years experience working for Starbucks. He suggested we go in to get drinks and a bag of coffee beans. I obliged, although I typically prefer supporting local shops. There's a sign that says only two allowed inside at a time. We go in, with our masks on, pick out our coffee bag and order our drinks. The guy at the register was not friendly. He instructs my dad to scan the bag from behind his mask and the plexi wall. My dad fumbles with the bag and finally gets it scanned (the register guy clearly annoyed we existed - "it's on the bottom" he says rudely). Then, we start ordering our drinks. Again, through masks and plexi, my dad has a hard time getting the guy to hear exactly what he's ordering, he had to repeat himself multiple times before he finally got the guy to get his order right, but only after lowering his mask to get it through. The guy quickly snaps and rudely instructs him to put his mask back up. Then, after we order, we are told to wait outside, in the cold, for our drinks. If we are going to be waiting outside with a strict two person occupancy, someone needs to be stationed to make sure the line is running smoothly and no one is getting cut in front of, or is missing their drink being ready, or maybe even bringing drinks outside to people if that's where we have to wait. Again, I get that there are orders, but make it easier on all of us, this whole situation is tough and unnatural enough as it is, don't add to the tension with rudeness and confusion. PUMPKIN IS BACK BABY! And so am I to my friendly neighborhood Starbucks. I've got a few options for 'Bucks located within walking distance to me, but this Roscoe/Broadway location is my go-to! The staff are some of the nicest I've encountered, my drink is always made in a timely fashion, and my order is (usually) correct. What more could you ask for? They are also taking proper COVID precautions, making my coffee pick-up experience even more enjoyable. Pro tip: always mobile order ahead of time. Right now, only two people are allowed inside at a time, so skip that line, by ordering ahead of time. When you arrive a nice barista will pop their head out, ask your name, and then return shortly with your beverage. They leave it on a table outside to minimize contact, which I appreciate. This location can get busy, especially at peak times, so you'll be waiting outside with others, but for the most part, everyone is respecting one another's space. They also have a small outdoor patio, that is open, but with only like three tables, so don't expect to come and get a spot. Overall, my interactions with this Starbucks have been nothing but positive, and will continue to stop her for my morning coffee. read more

If I could give it zero stars, I would. Just as I got to the register, the barista started to make two very large pour overs. Her two colleagues weren't really doing much. She was really rushing to get the pour overs completed. (Not sure if they were online orders) No one said hello or said I'll be right with you. After about 10 minutes - again with no one acknowledging me - I just forget it and left. I mentioned the terrible service to one of her colleagues as I was walking out the door and that barista didn't say sorry or anything. I really felt sorry for the barista behind the register. They recently extended the counter for mobile order pick up's which is SO nice! It makes it feel so much less crowded and cramped. But there's nothing like trudging down the street to get your morning cup of joe and know the people behind the counter. When my babies were babies, we'd bring them in. My experience at this Starbucks location was horrendous. As soon as I walked in I was told in a very rude way to keep my distance and stand on the zero sticker that's on the floor. I looked at the guy who said that to me and I replied by saying "OK, but can you be a little more professional and with less attitude and aggression when you interact with your customers? The lady who was at the register was also rude and she was talking to me using her hands I also told her "you know there's a way you can talk to people to get your point across using less attitude and less hand gesture & be more friendly. Wow, long lines for Easter Sunday at the local Starbucks! Despite the lines, it was pain free. I was in and out in ~ 5 minutes. The baristia at the register showed me how to use the new functions of the app (thanks!) and they also SPELLED MY NAME CORRECTLY!!!! Bonus points! My one 'complaint' (me being picky) - the nice lady handing the finished drinks out said "And name" ... The girl calling out the drinks obviously didn't have her coffee this morning. She clearly doesn't know what customer service is. I get it, it's hard to hear with the masks on but don't be rude! This Starbucks makes me a little sad. It's very small. And no matter when you go, there always seems to be a huge line. Which moves along very nicely. And the coffee clerks are all amazingly nice and welcoming. Even with the non-stop hustling that is their job. Indeed, it was just this Sunday last that I had the occasion to visit Sir Starbucks' modest establishment as a result of a quite unforgivable error by my butler. As I had summered many years in Berkeley it was quite natural that my man servant might recommend the local Peet's affiliate on Halstead and Cornelia. Which had only recently opened it's doors to the public and is not so overwhelmed with patrons. You see, Peet's Coffee in it's origin, is of Vine and Walnut streets in Berkeley. Near to Shattuck and not far from Cloyne Court Hotel. A delightful and refreshing residence I have frequented, where it is said that "beauty and hospitality are mated". No, it is with terrible remorse that I must report that I did not take my morning's tea at Peet's. Gout be damned, I hobbled unaided (and on poor advice) to the Starbucks on Broadway and Roscoe. A sight that would have Sir Starbucks, no doubt, chortling in a manner quite unbecoming of his rank. The ignominious Sir Starbucks, I fear, is not a socially minded aristocrat at all. By his actions, he is no doubt a firm believer in the Stamp Act of 1765 and doubly so of the Cider Bill of 1763. Why is it not true that his caffeinated concoctions are sold at exorbitant rates? Is it not true that another fair minded individual, blessed with wondrous success, would consult the Rochdale principles and reflect on their virtues. I propose here an ammended version of these principles. A more modern version, offered by Dave Fishwick of Burnley. And urge that Sir Starbucks consider them for immediate implementation. (Rules 1-5 have already been completed) 1. Never lose money 2. Never forget rule number one 3. Never give up 4. Never ever give up 5. See rule number 4 6. Start a non profit bank with your minibus fortune Sadly, Sir Starbucks' minibus fortune is modest. However, he has quite clearly prospered in other areas. So then, is not is possible to blend beauty and hospitality as the hoteliers of Cloyne Court have done? How about free bananas on Tuesdays? There is something indecent about this Starbucks. Let me preface this by saying...I've been working and going to school downtown for 10 years now. I've been to dozens of different Starbucks locations in the Chicagoland area for various reasons (school, work, dates, friends, whatever). I want everyone to take special note of this particular location. Yes, the lines can be long but that's not exactly a rarity at a Starbucks. This Starbucks is very clean and in a good location. This place gets a five star rating for the impeccable service. My girlfriend and I will go out of our way to go to this Starbucks for the service. Of course, it does help that this location is less than a block away from where we live. Nevertheless, we go to this location for the service. I'd like to make special note of Adrian - an employee that works at this location. She's literally the nicest, friendliest, and most charismatic employee I've EVER had the fortune of talking with. I quite enjoy her personality and charm. She has a strong character, is fully on top of her job, and makes the atmosphere so enjoyable. My girlfriend and I leave this location in a better mood after she serves us. I hope management reads this and is fully aware of what an awesome employee they have working at this location. I can say with confidence that as long as you have Adrian and hire people like her, I will be a perpetual customer for as long as I like coffee. They know your name if you come often enough and I usually get one thing: the morning bun. I love getting my java-on at this small location. The bad part is there are no restooms.:( The great part is the Baristas! Matt and Robin working the late shift always make me smile with thier friendly chats. They have a good memory for my favorite order, too! One thing that has got to go is the tip jar questions. Visiting this Starbucks location has been the highlight of my day for the past year and a half during COVID. My drink is always perfectly prepared and ready for me when I mobile order. They've started having a "Dad Joke of the Day" that adds a much needed moment of brightness and humor to start the morning. I live nearby, and for my husband and me, this has become "our Starbucks." This is not my favorite Starbucks in my neighborhood, but it is the closest to my house, so I have a tendency to frequent it out of sheer laziness. The staff are friendly, yes. However, they aren't necessarily the friendliest coffee slingers I've met. The store is pretty small, but I am a fan of their outdoor seating when it is warmer out- a perfect people watching spot. I know that the baristas are supposed to call out the drinks they are making, and the workers at this Starbucks never do. At the same time, they rarely mark the cups. So when my drink is up, they might say "tall misto" even though I ordered a decaf tall vanilla soy misto. So how am I supposed to know, without the call-outs and without the cup markings, that they actually made the drink that I wanted. Yes, i can taste the difference between a lot of drinks and usually figure out if they messed something up, but I like the reassurance of having my drink being repeated back at me. I think that's just the way it goes. My favorite thing about this Starbucks? The artwork that they hang- I believe it is sold at their store to profit those in need. Nice touch. read more

Sadly, this is also my neighborhood Starbucks, so that makes it even worse. Best service ever. While working from a table, I was posted samples four times. As a Vegan, I couldn't accept, and unfortunately they couldn't bake me bin vegan goodies. However, twice they offered to make me soy latte samples. Both were delicious and I highly recommend the gingerbread seasonal special! Confirming Natalie's experience, I saw another bug in the pastry case. I've worked in food service in the past, so I know that with many people coming and going flies and bugs can get in. When I brought it to the attention of the person behind counter though, I couldn't believe her reaction. Sarah was her name, and she got defensive with me - saying it was a raisin! Rude and defiant, she turned and walked in the back without another word. Watch out yelpers, those raisins in your muffin might have legs!! No more lattes for me from this place. Ok I confess I usually shop local but.... I have to admit this is one of my favorite starbucks. We went on vacation last year and stopped at one - needed java to keep my foot on the gas - and the bevarage was AWEFUL. Our local spot here in lakeview is a real gem. They always make my beverages exactly how I want them and they do a good job juggling all the customers in the morning. I was stuck going to another starbucks in the burbs where my dad had some surgery - yeah - I had to wait at least 15 min for a drink when there were only like 3 other people ahead of me. The DMV is friendlier and more efficient -- and even the DMV does not have the nerve to ask $5.39 for a plain coffee Frap with soy that is not blended right (runny and nasty). This particular one does a lot of morning business during the week as folks rush off to work.
