Super cute coffee shop with friendly staff! I don't like super sweet lattes but thought the oatmeal cookie latte was pretty well balanced and a reasonable price. They have free wifi so it would be a great place to work or study but I'd recommend getting there early or going during off hours since it was full when i went on a Friday afternoon.

I love Backlot Coffee. They're cashless here. Not somewhere I get terribly often since usually I would stop by when I was visiting Hewn in Evanston, so I was super excited when I saw that we were going to get our own Backlot in Ravenswood/Lincoln Square. The chai is pretty good here, and that's my go-to drink so yay for me. Their specials are good too, like Sandy's Holiday Soda. Reminds me of my favorite punch at formal events and holiday parties we attended when I was a child. This location is much more spacious than the other locations; Evanston always feels crowded, though lively (but Evanston has the best food and pastries) and honestly I don't even recall if Irving Park has any seating besides maybe a few counter chairs. The Montrose location has several two-tops as well as a large communal table for folks to use. Parking can be more of an issue than the other locations, though. There are some street spaces along Montrose or the side streets as well as a 15 minute pick-up spot, but no dedicated parking for the place.

It was a rainy day, and I thought it would be the perfect excuse to explore this little coffee shop. They are laptop-friendly, which is always a plus. I got for a black coffee paired with their birthday cake donut. The coffee was smooth, and the donut was delicious. The barista was friendly and its cute cozy spot to check out!

Very excited to have backlot in the neighborhood! I've been eagerly awaiting their arrival and I'm happy to say they're finally here!! They have a few street parking spots right out front which was convenient to run in and grab a cuppa while I was running errands. I was looking forward to grabbing a treat and a coffee. I got the horchata draft latte. It was pricey but what isn't these days. They only offered this in a 16 oz. For treats they only had cookies, banana bread, or a vegan scone available. Hopefully they'll have more options next time I stop in! The space was super bright, clean, and spacious. I could hear everyone's conversations so might not be the best place to work if you have work calls to take. I loved the gigantic round table. I'll be back!

I mean... they had already won my heart just with their adorable flying squirrel merch and decor, but the coffee was also delicious. I highly recommend the Cardamom Rose Latte. I got it with soy. The apricot pastry was okay, not quite as great as the coffee. It's a cute space, and the staff were super nice. There were a good number of people in there studying or chilling when I came by on a Wednesday mid-afternoon but definitely enough seats left.

We love Backlot Coffee!! Two visits so far in the last month and my god we're glad this opened up. Interior is gorgeous, soft, and airy with an artsy vibe to it. Service is wonderful as are the staff. My favorite so far is the strawberry cream cold brew, I would drink this every morning. My husband loves the black cold brew and to him it's one of the best cold brews in the city. All the pastries are spectacular. We had two donuts so far as well as the following croissants: spinach feta, ham & cheese, tomato basil. Croissants are huge and flakey, just as they should be. Definitely add this to your radar.

The shop is sparsely decorated but seems to be a real staple in the community, which felt special to visit as an outsider. My friend and I both ordered egg and goat cheese bagel sandwiches. I ordered an iced lavender matcha and my friend ordered a cappuccino. The sandwiches were made with boiled eggs, which felt extremely odd. The egg type was not clarified on the menu, but I feel like for a breakfast sandwich to include a boiled egg instead of a traditional fried or scrambled egg, that should be disclosed to customers with some sort of expectations. My friend said the cappuccino was "just like every other cappuccino I've ever had." The lavender matcha really just tasted like a regular matcha. It was good but not much lavender flavor! Our food also took a bit to come out, despite the coffee shop being empty (only one other person already dining when we came in) and what we ordered. It looked like there were only two workers. I personally wouldn't visit Sipping Turtle Cafe again, unfortunately. There are a lot of other great options around that satisfy me more.

I don't know what sorcery they are using to bake these scones, but they are not your average dry, flaky pastry. They are moist, gooey, huge, heavy on flavors and ingredients, and always delicious. I'm tempted to ask the owner to start texting me the scone flavors of the day so I never miss my favorites. Top 5 scones: - Peaches and cream - Cherry chocolate - Vanilla chai and/or vanilla rosemary (can't pick) - Lemon ginger - Chocolate caramel pecan Obviously I'm a sweet pastry person, but they also always have a couple of savory options like ham jalapeño cheddar, goat cheese, etc. I had one that was like blackberry habanero one time?? So good and so unique. Thank you, Ritual, for always feeding me scones :)

I got the 16 oz. iced latte which only comes with two shots of coffee, but I asked for an extra shot to be put in. The latte was fine. The espresso flavor was definitely very strong, but nothing unique or experimental. This is pretty typical of Counter Culture beans since they tend to stick to mainstream preferences. Overall, chill spot. The coffee is reliable, and the interior is cozy.

There's currently no reliable way to place a to-go order ahead of time: their phone number isn't listed, the website advertises online ordering but it never seems to work, and the delivery apps are hit or miss at best. I'd honestly order from here a lot more often if I could easily place an order while out walking my dogs and pick it up later. We stopped by on a Saturday morning around 8:30 am. There were a few patrons dining in and enjoying their breakfast. The display case was well stocked. We ordered the following: 1) Sourdough English muffin, pack of six* 2) Pistachio lemon doughnut 3) Strawberry glazed doughnut 4) Chocolate glazed doughnut 5) Almond blackberry croissant* 6) Pain au chocolat* 7) Lemon blueberry Danish* 8) Pistachio chocolate escargot* The ones marked with an asterisk are my favorites. The pain au chocolat was love at first sight/touch. I could immediately tell it was incredibly flakey, buttery, and light just by lifting it off the plate. Every bite was divine. If I was not concerned with my waistline, I probably would have had more than one. I used the English muffins to make lunch sandwiches at home. I toasted them and they held up really well after I layered them guacamole, pan-seared German bologna, cheesy-potato omelette, and Sriracha aioli. I am thrilled to try other sandwich variations with these English muffins. Another pro is that they offer Sparrow Coffee. My husband and I are both fans. There were several small tables for dine-in options. We would love to return and enjoy a cup of coffee with breakfast.
