Since my last review 2 years ago, I've developed such an obsession with Ritual's scones that I think they deserve their own review. I don't know what sorcery they are using to bake these scones, but they are not your average dry, flaky pastry. They are moist, gooey, huge, heavy on flavors and ingredients, and always delicious. I'm tempted to ask the owner to start texting me the scone flavors of the day so I never miss my favorites. Top 5 scones: - Peaches and cream - Cherry chocolate - Vanilla chai and/or vanilla rosemary (can't pick) - Lemon ginger - Chocolate caramel pecan Obviously I'm a sweet pastry person, but they also always have a couple of savory options like ham jalapeño cheddar, goat cheese, etc. I had one that was like blackberry habanero one time?? After a quick lunch nearby, my friend and I stopped by Ritual Coffeehouse for an afternoon coffee. They don't roast their own beans at Ritual, but they source from Counter Culture (which is a pretty much the Starbucks of third wave coffee). I got the 16 oz. iced latte which only comes with two shots of coffee, but I asked for an extra shot to be put in. The latte was fine. The espresso flavor was definitely very strong, but nothing unique or experimental. This is pretty typical of Counter Culture beans since they tend to stick to mainstream preferences. This was my favorite coffee shop of our visit! Such a cute shop and you can tell they care about serving you good coffee. Counter service was quick and we took our goodies out back to their little cute little ally/patio. The vanilla latte was smooth and perfectly sweetened. The cinnamon roll was soft and a little crispy where the cinnamon sugar mix came out of the pastry. I can definitely see why this is a neighborhood favorite. read more

This place is kind of small. It has an old time feel to it. It has a whole bunch of records and a record player that plays them. It's pretty cool. It feels like you are in back time. It's also by the train. I only had the cappuccino. It was good. Unfortunately I was unable to try any of their bakery and breakfast items because I went late at night and they were sold out. The lady who took the orders was nice. I'll need to go back during the day though so I can try their bakery/ breakfast items. There is no sign out in front, so you may miss the spot. It was a quick visit:) I was walking home from Trader Joe's and got an urge for coffee to go from a new place. I actually walked passed place as there is no signage. Thank goodness I looked at all the yummy pics on Yelp and decided to make a U-turn. I finally noticed coffee drinkers sitting through the large tinted windows. The staff were laid back and way going. I got my iced vanilla latte quickly and I was out of there. It's a nice cozy place that has a shabby chic / art house vibe. I'll be back! read more

Be aware that people do bring their dogs in here pretty frequently. Not a dealbreaker for me per se, but it's good to know if that bothers you. The best part about this cafe is the cute back patio that I used to frequent when I lived closer. Now I stop in when I'm coming/going from the Brown line or bus station that's just a few steps away! I've never ordered food from here but the coffee is always solid. read more

Amazing latte art! Gets very crowded quickly, even during the winter! They have strong wifi and lots of people stay a while to get some work or studying done! Very close to the Brown line Irving Park station and also has some street parking on the side streets. Love that it stays open late for those in need of a later night caffeine boost. read more

Got a delicious, lighter roast macchiato (drop of cream style) the day I came with some fruit flavor but balanced acidity. Later got a lovely vanilla latte, creamy and perfectly balanced so the coffee shone through. Hipster vibes (record player out in the open with tons of records) and super lovely, friendly service. As a bonus, the baked goods are made *in house* and look to die for. Would love to have a place like this nearby. See you next time I'm in Chicago! read more

Ritual Coffeehouse is a quaint little place with top quality coffees and teas. I had the vanilla latte, fresh baked in-house wild berry peach muffin. I've had their fresh brewed coffee and it packed a nice punch! Not bitter but pleasingly smooth and a rounded out flavor. Service is fast here and Jacob helped us get our day going nicely. They also have a variety of bagels, mini pound cakes and delicious scones. The jalapeño cheddar scones are delicious. They are baking different items everyday. They have nice seating indoors and patio seating in the back. They are open everyday til 10pm too. It's a fun place to just relax and hangout. Hadn't even been in this place 2 minutes, sat down opened my laptop and the manager came up and said "did we miss your drink order?" Said I hadn't ordered one yet and he said "if you're gonna be in here you need to get something, this isn't a library". Place was super dirty too. Never going back. read more

Came in on a Sunday evening because they are open til 10. The place was quite busy at 6 and stayed steady the entire time I was there. The coffee was great. The place itself has a good amount of seating, with a few spots in the window. The music was a bit loud for anyone needing to take calls, but other than that, this is a great place to read more

Thank God for this establishment having late hours! I was hanging by a thread on my ovn shift not desperate enough for trash DD or Starbucks so I quickly searched uber eats for latte. Thankfully I caught them 20 minutes before closing. I was so fortunate to have a fresh large cup of almond milk lavender latte delivered right to my job. This small cafe with records and flyers along the walls has a nice vibe and the service is always quick and friendly. The food and coffee are pretty good, and they have a small menu of options. I'm more into breakfast sandwiches and bagels than pastries, but they do have a few selections of different cabinet items if you like that. I usually get the chai latte--it's decent, not the best I've ever had. I give it a 4/5 because my boyfriend, who loves coffee, thinks their coffee is delicious. I go to A LOT of coffee shops, across the country, and this place was one of the best...though I can only vouch for the cold brew, service, and atmosphere. Cold brew was about as good as it gets, which wasn't shocking when I saw the roaster they are using: Onyx. I don't live in Chicago, so I don't know how widely available it is there, but I have only seen it at one cafe in New York City, so that was a treat. Onyx is expensive coffee, I know, but the prices at Ritual were really low. Their larger size cold brews are a freakin' steal. I got into some chit chat with the staff and maybe even the owner and they said that is intentional. Also, I was with friends and ordered 3 cold brews 3 different ways, and she got it all right, which isn't the hardest chore, but appreciated none the less! Love the alley outdoor area in the back. Really charming, in a gritty way. Top of my list next time I am in Chicago, especially since good coffee there seems kind of hard to find in general. read more

My friend and I were driving around 8 pm lookin for a coffee place at that late night time. It's very cute inside and feel like oldies in there. The music in there is calming and the vibe is there is really relaxing and chill. The barista was nice and it was kinda neat. I took some pics of what was around, such as money origami and it was kinda vibey in there Menu was adorable to me. There's a nice back seating that my friend and I didn't get a chance to go check out, but if I was doing homework, I would like to come here for if Matcha latte w/ oat milk. This is my go to stop for coffee when I'm in this neighborhood. What I like: Good coffee. Good bagels. Friendly staff. Outstanding outdoor patio. Open late (what's up with coffee shops closing at 2pm?) Good music. Prices are fair. What I think they could improve: Chairs are not very comfortable. Get new chairs. Good things: The patio is nice, the whole beans they sell are really good quality. The bad Things: There is an older guy that works there who is super rude, unfortunately he's probably the manager or owner. Avoid that dude. The rest of the staff is great! Also, the bathroom is always dirty, they let dogs jump on the counter (even though they make food). My Coffee got cold and I asked for a warm up and the old guy told me I needed to buy a whole new cup. dude.. how cheap can you be?! read more

while getting in some bowling down the street i noticed that I had a scratch in my throat, thought some tea would be a nice balm so between games I wandered down the street. such a great space. records galore, happy staff, full of folks hanging out on computers and chatting. had a nice chat about options zeroed in on a non caffeinated loose leaf tea for myself, ordered a Turmeric Latte for the lady. good stuff read more

The baristas were very pleasant, and they managed to make orders quickly despite the long line. Pretty efficient operation in a small space. While I wouldn't say it was the best latte I've had, I think it was the most reasonably priced quality coffee drink I've had in Chicago. When visiting Chicago over Labor Day weekend, we walked here and WOW - I had the best scone I have ever had in my entire life! I am a home baker who is very particular about my pastries, and OMG the caramel pecan scone (still warm from the oven) ... I am in awe of how good it was!! Still thinking of it almost a week later and planning to make a batch of salted caramel today in an attempt to replicate this masterpiece at home!
