The bread is indeed the star here.
Located just a couple shops down from Happy Lemon, StarBread Bakery may not look like much from the outside, well, it doesn't look like much on the inside either, but hey, it's not about the decor, but about the Senorita breads here.
It's a very small storefront, with just a small display for donuts, and other baked goods to the left of the register when you walk in, and to the right, is the packaged baked goods ready for quick pick up and to-go. The baked goods on the left side sort of varies, with donuts, some fruit pastries, and other bread type assortments you'd usually find at a bakery, albeit, a smaller selection and variety of it. On the right side, the sealed goods looks mostly like things such as mini-cupcakes, which seem tasty, to other packaged breads which would usually count as things like cookies as well, or just things that can be more easily packaged for the on-the-go.
However, nobody really comes to StarBread because they're just really craving a donut, or at least, would be much more unlikely. What really shines here are what they're known for, and that is their delicious Senorita breads.
The prices for the Senorita breads are cheap, and basically doesn't make sense to just pick up a few, since they only take credit after a certain amount of cost, so you might as well just pick up a box of at least 25 for that, but depending on how many people you're buying this for, 25 may not even be enough for you once you get started. I could probably have eaten all 25 by myself to be completely honest, but I was reluctant to fill up on regret so early in the afternoon already.
The Senorita Bread from a bread standpoint is just your typical rolls. It's baked nicely on top, but once you look at the bottom, oh boy, that's where it'll really get you. When you get the bread fresh, it is absolutely amazing, and worth the trip over. It's just so simple. The sugar, the butter, and texture of the bread, it all just meshes together so well. When you first pick up the bread, one thing you will notice is that the bottom of the bread as you pick it off the bottom of the box just peels off from the bottom. Why does it peel off? Well, the butter, the delicious, sugary butter. But that's not to say that the dough is mushy, and not baked long enough. It's quite literally seems that way because of how much butter there is that this dough soaks in that it creates a consistency that makes you think it's too doughy, but it's really just delicious. When you first take a bite into a fresh one, oooo boy, it's fantastic. The butter is melty, and sugary, and just leaks right out and into your mouth. Make sure to be careful of the butter being too hot if you do get it fresh off the line. While it's amazing, it's also quite dangerous, so please be aware especially if you are sensitive. At one point when I was eating the second roll, the butter was leaking out of the other side of the roll as I held it up, and it was burning my finger as it dripped down (not that I cared in that moment), and had to run my finger under some cold water. Definitely be careful.
The Senorita Bread is exactly as advertised, and I would be more than happy to come back here in the future again. The staff here are also nice, and price wise for the Senorita Bread, it's a great place to be if you're craving some nicely made bread. Last thing to note, there will be stretches of when they're out of Senorita Bread, because once the fresh ones come out, they tend to sell pretty fast. Often times when you see a line outside the shop, that's because many have already called ahead, or came by earlier to see if there were any fresh batches coming out, and made it back just in time to get their baked goods. It would definitely be recommended to call ahead to see if there is a fresh batch ahead of time, just in case you wouldn't want to wait once you get there, because it does appear to take some time to bake them for each batch, and while worth the wait, may be better to wait elsewhere since there's really nothing else to do in that immediate center. read more
