After friends and family recommended Alpine Pastry & Cakes, it was a must go when I was in the area. I bought a German apple coffee cake for a family party and bought delicious PB, chocolate walnut, and raisin and oatmeal cookies for my parents and brother. My parents and brother raved about their cookies! One of my biggest food weaknesses is meringue. I didn't think I was going to eat the entire meringue in one sitting back home, but because I haven't eaten a meringue treat in so long, I'm sure that's why I could not stop myself from finishing the meringue with rainbow sprinkles! Their customer service is excellent and their line moves quickly because of this. They have dining tables so you can enjoy your pastries, cakes, and/or hot beverage in their fun and comfortable dining areas. Prinsesstårta!! Okay so I LOVE princess cake but it truly is a long process to make. Many bakeries and patisseries don't have then for whatever reason, but Alpine Pastry & Cakes does! I was overjoyed that they had it in a small format with the dessert log slice format so I don't have to buy a whole cake. It was lovely!! I will be back to have more princess cake. We also tried other things and they were good too. We liked how the chocolate cake seemed like it has a fresh Dutch cocoa taste. Service was good, there is a one-way dedicated parking lot, and the place is pretty busy (I'm guessing because people like it a lot) but the line moves swiftly. I'd like to consider myself a croissant connoisseur. They are by far one of my favorite pastries and I'm constantly searching for the next best one. To date, I haven't found one that is more buttery and crispy than the ones served at Alpine. The ends have the most perfect crunch, and the center is so layered and fluffy. I am determined to try every pastry they have to offer. I also love their peach cobbler (?) (top left) and the raspberry crumble (?) (pictured next to the peach cobbler). The bottom right are chocolate walnut cookies which are incredible with a cup of black coffee. I also heard they have pretzels on Friday, which excites me so much. Late review, but I went here the day before thanksgiving. Luckily it wasn't that busy. I was planning on ordering pumpkin and apple pie. However when I got to the counter, someone ordered the last pumpkin pie so I just settle for apple pie. It's a small bakery and it looks like people usually order and get it to go. It is very nice to have family owned bakeries versus the chain stores. There are many options for cookies, cakes and pastries as well as coffee drinks. Today, I was craving a butter horn similar to the old Neldams in Oakland Ah, it was not to be because it's not an item that they make. Instead, I went with the bear claw and it wasn't bad. Very flakey and almond tasting due in large part to the almond filling which is generous. For me, it was a bit dry even after I zapped it for 10 seconds in the microwave. Today, they had quite a few cakes in the display case. The prices of cakes has just blown me away and it's not just here. Plenty of parking and tables to enjoy your treats. After being a loyal customer of this pastry shop for quite some time, I have to admit that my experience has been hit or miss. Out of all the cakes I've tried, I only genuinely enjoy two -- the Princess Cake and the Coffee Crunch Cake. Unfortunately, the others I've bought and tried, such as the Guava Cake, Velvet Cake, and Viennese Cake, were big disappointments for me. Most recently, I decided to try their Strawberry Delight Cake -- a white chiffon cake with strawberry preserves, strawberry cream, and cake crumbs on the side. I had high hopes for this one since the presentation looked adorable and I love anything strawberry. However, the biggest letdown was the cake itself: the chiffon was bone dry, and the strawberry preserves were overly thick and gelatinous. The crumbs on the side also didn't help -- their texture reminded me of desiccated coconut, which I didn't enjoy. Overall, I was really disappointed with this cake. While I still appreciate a couple of their offerings, like the Princess and Coffee Crunch cakes, most of their other varieties have hugely missed the mark for me. I truly think the Strawberry Delight Cake could have been much better if the cake hadn't been so dry. Because of the inconsistency in the quality of their cakes, I can't give this place more than two stars. read more

This seems like an abundant bakery with sweets, cakes and cookies beaming all around the shop in coolers. The array of baked goods causes you do double takes or even triple takes of the array of desserts. I'm never sure what to pick. And secretly I'd pick it all if I could. The vibe here is cheerful and bright. The shop is clean and up to date. Alpine has a large space for a bakery and chairs and seats for inside dining. I would have stayed at Alpine today, but took my order to go this afternoon. I must say I was disappointed when I took a bite into my Red Velvet Cupcake. The frosting wasn't tangy, and the cupcake didn't seem very sweet. My daughter cookie on the other hand seemed to taste much better because she finished off in a flash. The service was excellent. I was greeted less than a minute upon arrival. The staff was patient with my daughter when clarifying her order. The price was reasonable. Two large decorated cookies and a cupcake for $16. I've been here before and my dessert experiences here have bee mixed but mostly positive ones. read more

I see this bakery whenever I am in Concord, Ca but never stop by. Finally, my husband and I went in and good thing we did! This place has an old fashion feeling like a bakery back in my younger days. It is clean and staff are attentive! They have a big pastries selection! And they all look amazing! They also have cookies, cakes and specialty coffee. We were looking for an anniversary cake and found one of our favorite coffee crunch cake. The cake, surprisingly, is light and not too sweet. We were in concord and decided to look for a bakery to buy an anniversary cake. We found this place on Yelp and decided to try it. We found this place to be huge. They have a lot of things to offer from cakes. Muffins, cookies, pastries, pies, and donuts. Their selection of cakes is so extensive that it took us a while to pick one. We finally decided to get the coffee crunch cake. It's made of white chiffon cake, filled & iced with Coffee whipped cream, and covered with coffee crunch. This cake is so soft and delicious. Every bite you take will melt in your mouth. The coffee crunch is not hard and it will also melt inside your mouth. This cake is just so awesome and delicious. We love visiting independent bakeries. They have their own personalities when it comes to the products that they produce to sell. The business is one long collection of counters filled with cakes, cupcakes, individual cakes and pastries, a register and then a hook to the right where there was another display case of cookies, macarons and meringues on display. I'm sure that I forgot some items but that just means that I'll have to return soon. We managed to narrow our choices down to three items. We got: Bavarian Cream Puff Chocolate Taco Apple Strudel with Whipped Cream We ate way too much food throughout the day. We had the Bavarian and Streusel for dessert, and the poor Taco waits for us in the refrigerator. The two that we ate were even more delicious and luscious than we had expected. Service was excellent. The sales floor was clean and well lit. There were some tables on the side. ****Note I took the Chocolate Taco out of the refrigerator and gave it a hour to come closer to room temperature. Cut it in half and shared. OMG! It was so rich and decadent! Even eating just 1/2 of it seemed like an overload of chocolate flavor. Chocolate Cake wrapped around Chocolate Mousse with a dab of Raspberry and then the entire thing folded like a taco and dipped in chocolate with chocolate sprinkles. While the cost isn't inexpensive ($9.50), sharing it cuts the cost in 1/2. Just be sure to have a large glass of ice-cold milk or a cup of hot coffee at hand! read more

Yesterday , we picked a cake from their display called St. Honore to bring to a party the next day and selected a slice of almond cake to split with husband. They have a wonderful display of various cakes, cookies, pastries, etc to choose from. The building is welcoming and it gets busy but line moves fast. The workers are so sweet and kind. I rely a lot on yelp. 3.9 for this business is (by far) not justified. It is this once in a blue moon event where I rate a business 5 stars. And in this case, an even higher rating would have been justified, if available. I recognize that the inconvenience of ordering through the phone bothers people, including me. It can also lead to misunderstandings, etc. The online platform requires a two day lead time, which might be too long for some, including me. I called twice, and at both times, was served immediately. I ordered a large number of desserts, macaroons, etc, for a special event, and the four of us with vastly (!) different taste preferences all loved them, hands down. And we, collectively, do not believe there is any other store in the area which can compete with them in terms of freshness of ingredients, authencity of taste, and how long it stays fresh. An outstanding business, and the only bakery we will go to from now on. read more

I don't usually take time out of my workday to write reviews but they truly went above and beyond for me. I had called ahead to ask if they could wait a few extra minutes since I was running late and they did, my boyfriend's favorite dessert is a very specific cheesecake and I didn't want to miss it. When I got home, I realized they had accidentally given me the wrong one. The next day, I called and they immediately made it right. They kindly offered me either a replacement or a reimbursement and I chose to pick up the original cheesecake I wanted. Mistakes happen, but what really impressed me was how they handled it. The owners clearly care about their customers and that makes all the difference. Oh and the cheesecake itself? Absolutely on another level, delicious, beautifully presented and worth every bite. The shop is also super cute and spotless, which I really appreciate. Definitely a must-try. Thank you!!! Oh I hate to do this because they have done cakes for me in the past, but the call I just got off of was SUPER unpleasant. I called in today to see if they could decorate a faux cake for me. Not only was she rude, but she told me she would charge me AS MUCH AS SHE WOULD for a real cake. You mean to tell me it would cost me $100 plus to decorate a piece of Styrofoam? And then, when I told her the shape of the Styrofoam, she flat out said no. As if the shape of the Styrofoam changes the action? And I'm not a baker, at least not a professional one, but something feels off about what feels like the refusal to help me. And it's not like I am looking for free service, I'm willing to pay, but I'm not willing to pay cake prices for icing on Styrofoam. Saying no, as a business is OK, I'm all for it. But customer service needs a serious rebranding. I have never had a good in person/over the phone experience. Their food speaks for itself, but the customer service skills really takes away the value of a local business that has been around for years. A great classic bakery. The young lady who attended me today was so very patient, kind with this old lady. Upon entering my eyes feasted on so many wonderful choices of cakes and pastries. They have an area inside and outside where you can sit drink your coffee and eat a selection of your choice. Even on the phone on a previous day, the woman was extremely kind and patient. I recently ordered a $100 retirement cake from Alpine Bakery, and unfortunately the customer service was so disappointing that I will not be returning. The bakery's online ordering system does not provide a "Notes to Bakery" section, so I used the only available field to communicate that I wanted nothing written on the cake and that I wanted the top surface left flat for a cake topper. The following day I received a phone call from an employee who immediately criticized me for my instructions, telling me they "did not make sense" and that I should have placed my order by telephone. Rather than blaming customers for limitations in the online ordering system, perhaps Alpine should consider adding a notes section for special requests. The same employee also seemed shocked that I wanted to pick up my cake at 8:00 a.m., asking, "Oh, that's early, are you sure?" Since the bakery opens at 7:00 a.m., I was surprised that an 8:00 a.m. pickup was treated as unusual. When I arrived to pick up the cake, I asked whether they could simply place my edible marzipan photo topper on the cake. I was immediately told, "Oh, we do not take anything from the outside." I was not asking them to keep or modify my topper, only to place it on the cake. If that is Alpine's policy, that is perfectly acceptable, but there is a courteous way to explain it. The products at Alpine are good, but customer service is just as important as the product--especially today, when customers have countless options for cakes and pastries. Unfortunately, every interaction left me feeling like I was inconveniencing the staff rather than being a valued customer. Because of this experience, Alpine Bakery has lost a customer. The next time I need a special cake or Italian pastries, I will happily make the trip to Stella Pastry & Cafe or Victoria Pastries in San Francisco, where the products are exceptional and customers are treated with warmth and appreciation. read more

Our favorite was the chocolate mousse cake. The apricot cookies and apple turnovers were also very good. My daughter liked the chocolate stock cupcake, but it was a bit rich for her taste. The service was friendly and helpful. Even though there was a line, there were enough employees to keep it moving quickly. Alpine bakery reminds me of my favorite bakery growing up that closed down a few years ago called Taste of Denmark or Neldam's in Oakland. The store was clean and very welcoming. Service was quick and speedy. I was out in 5 mins with a cake in my hand. My goal was to find a cake similar to the chocolate cake I had growing up called "dream cake" from Taste of Denmark. The closest cake I have found to it is the Dream of Cream cake. It's fluffy and not too sweet. Perfect cake for a birthday! And the prices is unbeatable- $32 for a whole cake. What a steal! Mocha mouse cake Not sure what the white part was but didn't really have a flavor, the coffee mousse was tasty, the tiny piece of 1 inch cake was soggy inside. The shell was gritty so I just threw it away Macaroon- not good it tasted like it was in the freezer for quite some time.
