I hadn't had Beard Papa cream puffs in a long time, so when I spotted a store here in Concord tonight, I was excited and knew I had to try them. I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered a ube-flavored cream puff shell now, as well as an option for ube-flavored cream filling. Of course, I chose that combo. The ube flavor definitely came through--at first, I mostly tasted white chocolate, but toward the end, the subtle ube notes emerged nicely. The cream filling was smooth and enjoyable. However, the cream puff shell itself was a bit stale and dry. We did pick them up around 6 PM, but I still think the store should find a way to keep their products fresh throughout the day. Overall, the cream puff was tasty, but I probably wouldn't buy it later in the day again. We also tried the dulce de leche cream puff, which turned out to be just a regular cream puff topped with a sticky caramel glaze - nothing particularly memorable there. Beard Papa fan! Gave them a try in Tokyo Japan and glad to have them in the states. It's been awhile so I thought I'd refresh my memory by visiting a location I have yet visited. Can't go wrong with the original, but went ahead and also tried something new to me. Green tea! It was great, but not better than the original in my opinion. You can't go wrong with neither. I dropped in on a Tuesday afternoon and there was just one worker present. She was great multi-tasking, but be patient. Tuesdays are probably one of their slow days which explains staffing. By the way, their drip coffee is not bad at all but beware it's served extremely hot. If you have no luck with street parking, look for garage parking down the street. 4.5 stars but I'm feeling generous and rounding up to 5. My first time visiting Beard Papa's was shortly after they opened, sometime in January or February 2022. I had the Oreo and strawberry cream puffs. Although I liked the strawberry shell and filling, the Oreo cream puff was bland. I love anything Oreo/cookies and cream so I was disappointed. Fast forward two years later and I have the opportunity to attend the Elite event. This time I had the original and ube cream puffs. Both were delicious and not overly sweet. I could definitely taste the ube flavor. Service was friendly and efficient. Would love to come back to try more flavors. I'd also reconsider trying the Oreo in hopes the flavor improves. Placed an order for a mashle cream puff and a hot chocolate at about 6pm, went to Sunvalley mall for about an hour then headed to Napa right after for a show at 8pm. This cup was in the car entire time after leaving beard papas with the windows UP. Came home and wanted to finish my drink so I wanted to warm it up in the microwave. Took the lid off and saw all of these fruit flies in my cup. & no there is no fruit flies in my car. I'm so disgusted, I drank SO much of it too. I don't even know how many fruit flies I ingested since I was drinking it over a period of time. I literally want to throw up as I'm writing this. You can even tell on the rim there's fruit flies smushed into the cup because the worker put the lid there. Why on earth would you serve this to someone??? read more

I love Beard Papa cream puffs and used to get them quite often after work when I commuted to SF via Bart. Unfortunately, both SF locations have since closed. But fortunately, Beard Papa has crossed over into the East Bay so I can occasionally get my sweet tooth satisfied. Beard papa offers a variety of puff shells with fillings as well as other desserts like cheesecake, eclairs, and lava cakes. For the cream puffs you choose your shell and filling and they're made to order. Shell flavaflavs include plain, chocolate, strawberry, matcha, etc. Filling flavaflavs include vanilla, chocolate, ube, coffee and a few others. Flavors rotate out, so it's best to call ahead to see what specialty flavor they have for the day. Price of the puff depends on what shell you want and filling, and they range from $4-4.35. If you buy 6 puffs, you'll get $1 off and a cute yellow box. My friends tried the coconut with ube and they stated the ube flavor was very indistinct and muted. I didn't try it because I don't care for those flavors. I enjoyed the matcha and the oreo puffs. The matcha was filled with vanilla bean cream; my favorite pairing. I tasted more white chocolate than the matcha, but the flavor was there. The vanilla cream was smooth, cool and custard-like. The puff overall was crispy and dialed down the sweetness of the white chocolate glaze and cream. The oreo I didn't have until 2 days later but it was still good despite the texture of the puff going soggy. Keep them in the fridge if you're not eating them right away. The shop is quaint with a few tables to enjoy your puff treat. They have a fun wall of Beard Papa mans on one side and a brief history of how the shop got started on the other side. Overall, good puffs. Enjoy them fresh! Reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and the puffs were nicely packaged in the box. Location of the place is not bad; they're close to Teaspoon. Parking outside can be difficult because it's quite busy but you can park in the free garage 2 blocks over. This Beard Papa's is located in the Todos Santos Plaza area in downtown Concord, occupying the spaces vacated by Loard's Ice Cream. After getting bubble tea next door on 03/22/2023, my friends and I were looking for a place to hang out. We decided to come here since they have tables for customers. We also wanted to get a couple cream puffs to go with our drinks. We walked in at about 7:10 pm and it appeared the workers were prepping for closing time. There were no other customers besides us. One of the workers greeted us. We got two cream puffs for us to share - one crème brûlée and other ube. The total was $8.40. I had a piece of both and they were just okay. The puffs tasted a bit stale. This was not a surprise since the area was pretty quiet when we arrived. There probably wasn't enough turnover at that time for them to make fresh ones. The good thing was they weren't too sweet. I sure didn't need more sugar that evening. Workers were friendly and welcoming. Beard papa's 4 life! This location in downtown concord is great because it's next to so many restaurants - who doesn't want a cream puff after lunch/dinner? The creamy puffs are piped to order and the combinations are endless and delicious. My favorite combos (so far) are the ube shell with matcha filling and the chocolate shell with vanilla filling. Overall a 5 store is not in the best location and it smells kinda funky right when you walk in (kinda a deterrence.) It's like the smell of butter and sugar. I dunno.. otherwise the place was clean tho and the display of items was pretty and to the point. Food was actually quite great. I recommend getting it stuffed with ice cream! It's a huge treat but the flavor of the puffs are actually quite lovely. I got orea with icecream and 5 others all with vanilla filling that was a light creamy vanilla bean not too thick and filling or gross. Pleasant flavor and texture Oreo ( great Oreo flavor! We ordered a dozen of these creme puffs to go, 1/2 went to my niece and half came to me. I had two plain powdered sugar with chocolate filling, two Oreo Cookies n' Cream Shell with chocolate filling, and two Ube Shell with Ube filling. I liked all of the flavors we ordered except the Ube did not taste like Ube to me, just my opinion. And I recommend you eat these right away. Don't keep linger than a day. They'll get soggy. And these are not overly sweet. So this was a quick and easy order. Fast and friendly. The size of the creme puff were pretty good size, like the size of a muffin. I was surprised. They have a lot of different and new flavors but my favorite is always the original shell with vanilla filling. -The shells: For my taste, the original shell is the best because it's light and airy. I've noticed that the shells that are covered in chocolate/matcha have a good flavor profile but are WAY TOO sweet. But if that is your thing, go for it! (note that there do NOT have gluten-free options.) -The fillings: All of the fillings are not as sweet as you think they are going to be. And comparatively, not as sweet as the shells with toppings. --vanilla: the best hands down. Definitely give this one a try --chocolate: it's not bad but it does feel like the vanilla + powdered cocoa. --ube: the ube flavor isn't very strong, but you do feel the notes of it coming through subtly. Bearded Papa's has a variety of cream puffs and fillings that you can mix & match. We ordered the S'mores with Vanilla cream, Green tea with green tea cream, and cookie crunch with vanilla cream. My favorite out of the 3 was the green tea, which has just the right amount of sweetness. The woman who helped us out that day was super friendly as well. The only con to note was that I would have preferred to eat the cream puffs inside the store--which has about 3 tables--but the temperature was extremely hot inside. The food was decent; enough filling. The service was very annoying. The lady seemed to have hated her job. She barley spoke English which is no issue at all expect she acted like we were the issue for not understanding. When we asked for the 12 she randomly selected for us and when we asked how it got to that price and which ones were picked she didn't want to tell us so she pointed to the screen that had the order and we had to scroll down. I guess which wouldn't have been a big deal if we knew what was placed before hand and her attitude was "look for yourself" I don't recommend the watermelon lemonade it was bland. It took 20 plus mins for our order and a lady ordering after us had to wait that time plus to even order her food. It was no warm or welcoming. We should had read the fine print so this was on us; but there is a HUGE sign that says any drink 3 dollars if you buy two or more: we got 12 plus and the drinks we got were not 3 bucks it was 6.50. I went to the sign and finally saw on the bottom this didn't include frozen. In total we spent 75.00 with no tip because the lady seemed so annoyed with us even walking in. read more

Upon entry there were three workers and no "hello" or "hi" or "welcome in." Even at the register the two were chit chatting about what song to play in the store. However the worker making the treats was helpful and answered my questions. We got the 6 mini puffs with chocolate filling. I prefer these because you can easily pop them in your mouth like a snack and not get your hands so messy! My mom got the creme brulee puff with vanilla filling which she devoured! She said the filling was nice and light almost pudding-like and not too sweet! Looking forward to trying the chocolate eclair we took home! I would love to give this place a higher rating but not being greeted and continuing your side convo with a customer at the register ready to order sets a tone for me. The green tea flavor fell a tad short, and the eclair was drier and less airy than I expected, so there's some disappointment there. There wasn't too much foot traffic. I knocked on the door and one of the workers opened the door to tell me they close at 7pm, but I mentioned their sign and online says 730p and I've been here before past 7p. While she was kind, she didnt let me in, closed the door and continued to clean up. I drove off and passed the store to catch another look at their hours in case I misread it. To my surprise I saw an entire family walk in and their OPEN sign lit up. I was so confused. I parked, again, and walked in. The workers didn't apologize but admitted that indeed they close at 730p not 7pm. Two stars for the inconvenient experience but it won't stop me from visiting again.
