Newest addition to Todos Santos in Concord! Very exciting to have this new business close to home. I must say, I am not a big fan of waiting in line during grand openings. Patience is a virtue. People are mad, tired and business are usually trying to get the hang of things. If you go during grand/soft openings, there is a chance you might run into some uncomfortable moments. I drove by on Saturday and the line was long!! I was like nope! I will come back. I came back on a Wednesday during lunch and there wasn't a line or wait at all! There are a couple of parking structures in Todos Santos and parking shouldn't be a problem. The establishment is clean and nicely decorated. The staff is friendly. I must say it is but confusing where to order. When you walk in there is a counter with lots of cream puffs and then the cashier is in the middle. I was a bit confuse. The person who helped me was very nice. They were out the green tea and chocolate filling when I came but I've tried the green tea at other locations. Vanilla is my favorite. You basically choose your pastries and then the filling you want in them. I had Green Tea, Strawberry, Oreo and Chocolate all with Vanilla. Oreo was surprisingly my favorite ( it has white chocolate and I LOVE WHITE CHOCOLATE)! I like that the pastries are not too sweet. They are the perfect combo for when you want something sweet but not overly sweet. Do I think it is worth 1hr+ wait, not really but I'm excited to have this new business in town. First of all, this is the slowest business I've been to in my life. Yes, it's their first day but I have been to other grand openings before that was much faster. Waiting at the end of the day for over an hour is unacceptable. I was in line about 4PM and didn't get my pastries till about 6PM. A lady literally passed out while waiting for Beard Pappa's behind me. They gave her water and a cream puff after she was able to get off the dirty ground in front of the store. My number was 17 but many 20's got their orders before I did. The last straw was my first cream puff had almost no filling (see picture). I noticed that one of the girls would add two quick squirts of filling and didn't even check if there was ample filling. I bought six puffs and most of them were only half filled while the first one wasn't even a third filled and I ate mostly a dry crumbly shell. The strawberry shell was too sweet. Finally, the cashier forgot the grand opening promotion (buy 5 and get 1 free) and had to have his manager correct the tab after asking if the promotion was still active. Of course the promotion is still active, the promotional sign was behind his head! Incompetence and poorly filled pastries are bad business. They should have placed a limit on the first day's orders because there were people who ordered DOZENS and apparently these large orders takes forever to fill while others who want just 6 pastries wait for hours while hundreds of cream puffs are being filled by just two or three young inexperienced staff members. Love beard papa's, come here often after having dinner nearby. Tonight I came at 7:04p (11/13) but the door was locked, and two workers were cleaning up. I knocked on the door and one of the workers opened the door to tell me they close at 7pm, but I mentioned their sign and online says 730p and I've been here before past 7p. While she was kind, she didnt let me in, closed the door and continued to clean up. I drove off and passed the store to catch another look at their hours in case I misread it. To my surprise I saw an entire family walk in and their OPEN sign lit up. I was so confused. I parked, again, and walked in. The workers didn't apologize but admitted that indeed they close at 730p not 7pm. Two stars for the inconvenient experience but it won't stop me from visiting again. I discovered Beard Papa's in Osaka, Japan and had not had any for a few years. Then, back in January 2024 I found this shop. Everyone in my family loves the puffs and the mini cheesecakes. HOLY CREAM PUFF! These babies are good! If the only cream puff you've ever had are those frozen ones that come in a square, white plastic box, boy are you in for a treat. Beard Papa's is located next to Lima, which is on the farther end of Salvio St, by the park. There's a free parking garage on the same street that is less crowded than the main one on Salvio, and a much closer walk. There isn't much street parking at all, but good luck to you for trying. They have a promo rn where you get $3 off if you buy a dozen. This came out to $45, other they're $4 each. One is enough, even for a girl with a sweet tooth. They're big and messy (TWSS) and they don't store well. You've been warned. After sitting for a few hours, the custard filling makes the outer shell a little bit soggy, which I didn't really like. What's cool is you get to choose the flavor of your shell, and the flavor of your filling. The TV menus were all off when we came in, and they only had a teeny tiny menu at the order counter. It seems like the flavors rotate out so as of yesterday, the custard fillings are: vanilla, chocolate, ube, and vietnamese coffee. The cream puff shell flavors are: original, strawberry, ube, oreo, matcha, honey butter, chocolate. They also have a creme brulee one but that one comes pre filled with vanilla custard. YOU HAVE TO GET THIS. The crunchy sugar on top was texturally divine. Literally tasted just like a creme brulee. We mix matched a bunch of flavors but the ones I tried were strawberry w/ vanilla, ube w/ vanilla and oreo w/chocolate filling. Now that I think about it, I'm not really sure why I didn't try one with ube filling.. but I can tell you the ube shell wasn't really giving ube flavor. I think other reviews said the same thing about the ube custard but the purple color is really pretty lol The vanilla custard was definitely my favorite filling. I did not like the chocolate filling at all. It had a really bitter after taste that just isn't for me. I did like the oreo shell because I love white chocolate and that's basically what it was with oreo crunchies on top. The oreo bits were a great addition for texture, considering I ate this 9 hours from when we bought it so the shell was a bit soggy. The strawberry shell tastes just like a strawberry yan yan! I liked the bite I had, but I was one and done afterwards. It's pretty sweet gives artificial strawberry so if you don't like that, I suggest you skip this flavor. FYI- These are not the type of treats you eat in the car. Ours didn't have the custard oozing out, but when we bit into them, there was a ton of custard oozing out everywhere! I love Beard Papa's and I'm over the moon that we now have a location in Concord, instead of picking up some from SF and bringing them back. Beard Papa is the go to place for a fresh and delicious creme puff. You can never go wrong with a classic original with vanilla filling but the other shells and fillings are just as good. This location is still getting into the groove of things and the increased popularity for being new is definitely creating a stress point but that should even out as they continue to operate and fine tune their process. For my experience, I went the second day they opened and the line started about 40 minutes before they opened. I joined the line 10 minutes before opening and was 20th in line. It took about 45 minutes after opening to leave with my order in hand and the line as I left was 3-4x from when I joined. In the grand scheme, taking and completing 20 orders in 45 minutes is not bad but there is definitely room for improvement and speed but again, once the hype calms the line and process won't be as long. I'll definitely be back, but I'll wait until the line finds a nice normal. read more

It's been years since I've had Beard Papa's! We were in the area recently and remembered there was a location in Concord. It was mid-day so parking was surprisingly easy to find right in front. I actually placed a pickup order via the app about 15 minutes prior. Upon checking in, my order was ready within a few minutes. When I got to the store I noticed they had a buy 5 get 1 free promotion. Unfortunately, the Beard Papa's app did not offer this promotion but the gracious employee was understanding and gave me a free original cream puff to honor their promotion. We ate a few in the car and I ended up walking back in 5 minutes later to order another 6! We weren't able to finish all 12 and were surprised how well they kept in the fridge overnight. These are dependable cream puffs, the shell is crisp and they fill them after you order them, so zero sogginess. The cream is just right, not gummy, cloying, too thick, or too sweet. The churro flavor with vanilla cream is a good combo. I'd rather have these puffs than many other desserts you can find at restaurants or bakeries. read more

I'm so happy they opened a Beard Papa in the area. Every time I go to Todos Santos, I have to stop by and get a cream puff. The original is a great choice but my daughter and husband love to try the other flavors - so far we've had oreo cookie crumble, the smores, the cookie crunch and the chocolate eclair. I've also tried the green tea filling which was nice but I'm always fond of the vanilla custard. We also tried the custard cheesecake which was their version of the Japanese cheesecake. This event was so fun! I took my boyfriend and my pup. They went to Todos Santos Plaza across the street while I ordered the goods! First off, let's talk about the location, so convenient! But if we had the pick a favorite it would have the but the Churro. I ate Beard Papa's as a little kid and wanted to reminisce my childhood by getting a cream puff, but after my recent experience here, I'm never coming back. First - the taste. The filling inside is bland; there's NO flavor at all. The vanilla and chocolate filling tastes like sweet custard. Like most reviews stated, the flavors of the filling are bland and way too subtle. What's the point of making different flavors when you can barely distinguish and taste them? Second - the service. People can't follow simple instructions. I placed an online order of 3 eclairs. When I walked out of the shop to eat my eclair, I noticed they got one of the filling orders wrong. How is that possible? This is probably one of the EASIEST places to follow orders. You just fill cream in an eclair/cream puff. I went back to the shop, letting them know that one of my eclairs had the wrong filling. The young lady apologized dismissively saying that she was distracted. (The store was empty when I went. . .not sure what you can be distracted with?!) Anyways, she took the mis-filled eclair out and replaced it with my correct eclair. In my personal opinion, having worked in customer service, I would have let the customer keep the mis-filled eclair and make a new one. But no, the girl acted as if it was no big deal replacing my mis-filled eclair. Why would I come to a place with poor customer service that gets your order of 3 cream puff/eclairs wrong WHILE the store is empty? There's nothing sweeter than fresh baked goods! You can literally see them baking fresh choux pastry shells in their ovens! There's a bit of a wait when you order here but I don't mind because that means everything is fresh! I usually go to the South Bay or the city for cream puffs so I was excited to see a Beard Papas open up in downtown Concord. Lately there's been an influx of Asian dessert shops opening up around here and I'm absolutely loving it and encourage everyone to support these shops so they can stay! What a lovely addition to Todos Santos Plaza! I waited till the end of the day to get these cream puffs due to long lines all day long. At 3 pm, it took 20 minutes to order 4 cream puffs and another 45 minutes to pick up my order. Since I showed up 2 hours before closing, they ran out of some flavors like the strawberry shell and the Creme Brulee. The lady said it would take about 45 minutes, so my bf and I did some grocery shopping at a Safeway nearby. 45 minutes later, my order was ready! Shell flavors: Oreo, strawberry, chocolate, honey & butter, matcha, and original. Filling flavors: matcha, chocolate, vanilla Cost: $4.00 per cream puff Good customer service, but slow service. I first had Beard Papas in sunny SoCal so when I found out there was one in Concord I was beyond excited. Their cream puffs are SO GOOD! They're not overly sweet, soft but flakey, and best of all they offer a couple of options. To be completely honest, when I put their address onto Apple Maps it kept telling me they were in the middle of the whole plaza, not by the street. Because of this I did get lost trying to find them. I eventually called them so they could guide me and finally, I reached them. I came in to buy 12 vanilla cream puffs to take back to Vallejo and share with family. I especially love that they are made to order and they're not just sitting around with the filling. They packaged them up for me in two separate boxes as requested and I was ready to pay. The only memorable thing about this visit was when I was paying. The girl at the register changed the screen too fast without letting me know so I mistakenly gave them the biggest percentage of the tip which was fine but I had a tip in mind using cash. With that little mistake, I ended up paying probably $12-$18 more of my already pricy bill. Like I said, its fine...nothing we could have done at that point since she completed the transaction but I wish I had a bit more control of that. However, that will not stop me from coming by again because its Beard Papa's and their cream puffs are so good! read more

I usually can only get these whenever I go to San Francisco and I always had to go get Beard Papa's whenever i'm visiting the SF Moma or going to the Westfield Mall since Beard Papa's close by. Beard Papa's in Concord? I was thrilled to bits when I heard it was opening where I lived! Beard Papa's is a Japanese chain where they make the most scrumptious cream puffs. Beard Papa's is right in the heart of Todos Santos. Parking on the streets were very limited; although, Concord makes it up by providing two parking garages for more space. I initially came on the first day. The street parking was filled, so I had to park in the garage. When I came upon the store, I was stunned. The line stretched all the way down to the fountain! I left because hell naw was I staying in that line when it was hot outside. I came during the 2nd day and arrive when it was open at around 6 pm when the line wasn't long. If you went to other Beard Papa locations, then you may know that they have a wide selection of shells and fillings. Unfortunately, when I went, the Concord one only had the vanilla and chocolate filling by the time we arrived. When I did order, they ran out of the chocolate custard filling, so get there earlier. I ordered the original, green tea eclair, and Oreo shells with a vanilla custard filling. The cashier was friendly and quite organized which was great, despite all the chaos that unfolded because of the grand opening. The workers who were assembling the cream puffs were groggy and slow, but I didn't mind the wait because they must've been tired out from the rush. Overall, the cream puff was so yummy. The powdered sugar on top complimented the golden brittle crust of the shell. On the inside, the shell was so dense and fluffy, while the vanilla custard was so creamy, but not overly too sweet. For $3.50, it is reasonable to have that price point because of how fresh the ingredients are. The only thing I would suggest is filling up the cream puff more since it wasn't enough. It also wasn't as fresh as the other Beard Papa cream puffs that I had. There were barely any specks of vanilla beans in the custard filling. I was honestly surprised to see how long the line was on opening day (someone did the marketing right!!) my husband and I got there at 10 am and the line was ridiculously long so we left the line and came back yesterday (no line!) I'm always happy when a new dessert place opens so there's more options when I want something sweet and this is a great addition to Todos Santos if you have a sweet tooth! Parking is usually pretty easy here since they have parking garages and parking on the street. When you walk in you're greeted by colorful beard papa wallpaper which is super fun and you see all the colorful cream puffs being made. Head to the middle of the store to order. Unfortunately, they only had 4 flavors left when we went and only the original filling so we got what was left. I'm a big chocolate fan so chocolate was ultimately my favorite, but my husband's was the plain vanilla (a little too plain for me ) My honest critique: while I love that there's a new dessert place; I wasn't too impressed. We saw the place open up recently over the weekend, and it was super packed. I waited till a week later to try it out, which had no line on an early weekday. I went to pick up a Bakers dozen of Cream puffs for my co workers which was an assortment of different flavors. The only filling they had at the time was a Vanilla cream filling and Chocolate flavored. They mentioned that they had a couple over flavored creams, but were out that day. Finally a Beard Papa's out by me. I have been going to ones in sf for a hot minute and of course had to try once they opened down the street from my house here. The pastry was good just fyi it's meant to be a bit flakey and more crunchy than soft. The filling tasted exactly how it always tastes and the offering is decent. My favorite is just the classic one. The ube is good not super heavy on the ube flavor though. They are new so they are still trying to figure things out and get their groove set up so it did take a bit long to get my order but over time I am sure they will be quicker.
