What Happened to the Choco Bun? Plenty of free parking. When you walk in, grab a tray and window shop all the pastries. They individually wrap these so grab what you want and place it on your tray. Once you're finished, cruise up to the counter. Would I Come Back? Yes, I keep coming back. I use to come back for the Choco Bun, but if they've changed the recipe at all locations, I'll only be coming back for the Milk Bun and Nougat. Their Signature Item: Egg tarts are their signature item. If you've ever been to an Asian party, someone almost always brings a box of egg tarts from 85-Degrees. But on today's visit. Well, just look at the photo. Someone stepped away from the oven for about 6 minutes too long. Choco Bun ($2.55, Grade D): The Choco Bun has been my absolute go-to for years--the closest location to me is usually the South Sacramento store and I tell everyone they have to get it whenever they visit an 85°C. Unfortunately, it's been about 8 months since my last trip, and the Choco Bun is no longer something to write home about. Milk Bun ($2.05, Grade A+): If you've ever had their Milk Bun with the custard filling, the Choco Bun used to be very similar in texture. Now, it's flat with super dry edges. Not good at all. Luckily, I also bought a Milk Bun (my usual second favorite), and by default, it's now my number one because the Choco Bun was a complete bust. It's so fluffy and sweet. Melts in your mouth. Strawberry Banana Smoothie / no boba ($5.85, Grade F): It was incredibly artificial-tasting--nothing real about it. I only made it through a quarter of it before throwing the rest into the garbage. My fault for hoping for a "just picked" fresh fruit taste, but this was honestly one of the worst smoothies I've ever had. Nougat ($9.60, Grade A+): The bagged Nougat candy is fantastic. It's soft, gooey, and packed with what I'm guessing are pieces of pistachio. Delicious, but a fair warning if you have dental issues: these will wreak havoc on your teeth. It's not quite as sticky as a Starburst, but it could definitely pull out a denture! Bottom Line: The staff here is friendly, and there are still a few standout 5-star items that make a visit worth it (the Milk Bun and the Nougat). However, the disappointing recipe change to the Choco Bun and the absolute miss on the smoothie knock this down to a 3-star experience overall. read more

Vietnamese coffee, in my opinion, should be strong, bold, and sweet, and I was pleasantly surprised that 85° Bakery delivered exactly that. While we were there, we spoke with another customer who also ordered the Vietnamese coffee. She asked for 125% sugar because she found the "regular" sweetness to be too bitter, but I have to disagree. I ordered mine at the regular sweetness level, and it was already plenty sweet with definitely no extra sugar needed in my opinion. In fact, it might even be borderline too sweet for some people, but since I enjoy sweeter drinks, it worked perfectly for me. One thing to note is that you cannot adjust the ice level for this drink. I did not understand why at first, but it makes sense now because even after the ice melts, the coffee remains strong and the flavor stays rich and sweet. Overall, it is a solid and well balanced coffee. That said, I still really enjoy 85° Bakery's sea salt coffee drinks as well. I love 85 Bakery. I come here at least once a week for their pastries or iced strawberry matcha drink. This location is located in Park and Shop next to plenty of restaurants. There is always plenty of parking and if you drive an EV, there is an EVgo charging station directly across the bakery. They have a variety of baked goodness and it changes every visit. My favorite is the Hokkaido custard bun and the potato croquettes. My go-to drinks are the strawberry matcha and anything I can customize sugar free. Everything is reasonably priced as well. The lines aren't so bad now that the hype has died down and the wait for our drinks never takes that long. Overall, the service is excellent and the employees there are very friendly. They do have tables and seats in case you feel like dining in, but most of the customers that do go there are in and out. Amazing service, as always. I ordered the promotional drink (which I completely forgot to take photos of!), and it was delicious. I absolutely love the mango cake here--especially since I was able to redeem it using my rewards. If you didn't know, they have a great rewards program where you can earn free drinks or food, which is such a nice bonus. I ordered the strawberry matcha drink, a summer edition. However I wasn't a big fan of it because it wasn't sweet. Just a personal preference. The pastries are nice and fresh, but also aren't too sweet. It's a grab and go type of bakery. So service depends mostly on yourself lol. My Go-To Spot Pastries and Drinks! I live just down the road from this location and visit multiple times a week. It's become one of my favorite spots! The store can get busy at certain times, but I usually stop by before lunch when it's a little calmer. Their bakery selection is incredible, and honestly, I always end up buying more than I can eat because everything looks so good. My personal favorites are the Ube Bun, Cheesy Dog Bun, and their egg tarts--absolute must-tries! Every other week, I grab a box to share with coworkers and friends, and it's always a hit. I was really unimpressed by 85°C bakery on Willow Pass Road. I love the one in Dublin and so I was excited to see this one, but there were a couple missteps for one thing they just didn't seem to have the pastry selection like everything seemed to have meat in it if it were savory the other thing was, I ordered a large decaf coffee and asked for cream and they said I had to pay extra for half-and-half $.50 and then when I got my coffee, it was cold! They said only if you order a medium, is it hot and I just think he should've told me that because who would put half-and-half in their cold coffee? I don't know. I just was very unimpressed with everything there. The ambience was not so great either because the aisle that you walk in to get your selection is really small and they didn't have any liners or tongs. I'll stick with the one in Dublin. read more

The store is clean most of the time and there is some seating if you want to eat there. There is also a kiosk to order drinks on if you do not want to wait in the pastry line. The mango cream roll was a tasty 7/10 at $9.80, and the strawberry cream square was also a 7/10 at $5.15. Both cakes tasted very fresh and fluffy. They were not dense at all! So, what about tiramisu cheesecake! As a tiramisu fan, the Instagram ads drew my eye with promises of creamy decadence and chocolate richness. A golden fork rested on the plate. Was it worth the deal? And thus I went to the only 85°C Bakery Café in town to have a taste of luxury. 85°C Bakery Café is in a strip mall just off a busy road. The café was packed with patrons filtering in and out, and I quickly realized the doors were one-way when I tried to go in through the exit. After going in through the correct doors, I filed my way through the crowd and past the shelves of baked goods. The place was filled with delicious wrapped pastries ranging from Hokkaido custard buns to red bean breads. At the counter, the cakes were neatly arranged on display. I got the tiramisu cheesecake, a self-described Basque-style cheesecake with tiramisu mousse and cocoa powder. The tiramisu cheesecake slices stood elegantly between the red velvet cake slices and the strawberry panna cotta cups. The assistant carefully boxed up the cake slice for me, and I was soon out the door. I quickly realized that this was a Basque cheesecake first and a tiramisu second when I took my first bite. The cake was like biting into a layer of soft cream cheese, tart and full. The tiramisu was the flourish; my fork sank through the cocoa dust into the mousse and met subtle resistance from the cheesecake halfway down. The bold espresso and earthy cocoa flavors on top mixed with the rich, creamy waves of cheese beneath. Cheese upon cheese, this tiramisu cheesecake was a cheese-lovers dream. This was a good slice of cheesecake from 85°C Bakery Café. While my preference is more for tiramisu than cheesecake, I appreciated the cheesecake, and I'll be back to try the other baked goods at 85°C Bakery Café in the future. read more

I saw some others review this place on Instagram so I thought I would give it try. The place is clean, the employees are nice, and they have a good selection of pastries. That said I didn't enjoy the pastries that much. I tried the strawberry danish and a strawberry and crème sponge like cake. Both were just okay. The crème wasn't overly sweet, which was fine, but the overall flavor was pretty bland. The danish (croissant) was soft, but again nothing special. What I did enjoy was the Vietnamese ice coffee. I added a sea salt cream and wow this was amazing! The drink was delicious! The second time I came here was only for the iced coffee and boy did this take forever. I get it that it won't be as quick as the bigger coffee retailers, but dang. It was slower than my slowest coffee experiences anywhere else! Overall the food didn't do it for me. Not sure why it's taken me so long to try 85C, but better late than never! I've mostly gotten drinks here, though I got a mango bun yesterday for the 50% member discount on select mango items. The mango bun was not overly sweet. As for the drinks, I've had the taro milk tea and the sea salt coffee. The sea salt coffee was a new member welcome gift after I downloaded the app. The sea salt creama was an acquired taste, though adding stevia helps make it less salty. The taro milk tea is my favorite because I can taste the taro flavor and it's not overly watery at 50% sweet. I can't wait to try the various ube and taro baked goods! The first two times I came, service was friendly. However, the person who helped me yesterday seemed less friendly. Not sure if she was new or just having an off day. The store is good sized and carries what appears to be most of the selections that 85 ° offers. The shelves for each selection was also well stocked. They also have a small seating area of about six tables and a couple of accent chairs. Got my favorites, marble taro, taro puff pastry, Hokkaido custard bun and decided to use the 50% off on my reward app and got a cinnamon roll. Checkout was friendly and efficient. When visiting family in the area, I like to visit this 85 Degrees location. Although it can get busy here, for the most part they keep things pretty stocked but new flavors can sometimes be difficult to find as they sell quickly. We love their baked goods but a favorite of our family's is their egg tarts with mochi. When we get home, we love warming them up a tad in the toaster oven. It's flakey with a nice, sweet custardy middle Other than their bread, they also sell a variety of cakes showcased in their case by their registers and a variety of drinks (milk teas, expresso, blended, fresh tea, as well as add-ons - boba, pudding, konjac, lychee jelly, etc). Inside this bakery, there is plenty of seating on the side, and always clean if you'd like to have your sweet treats there. This place closes their bathroom thirty minutes early because they said they cleaned it already, my son had to hold his pee in and if I knew they weren't going to let him use the bathroom I would've not got so much stuff and already paid for it. -_- I asked nicely if they always close the bathroom early thirty minutes before they close and the cashier ringing us up said "sometimes" My son was asking over and over if he can use the bathroom while I was paying and he said no because they already cleaned it I asked what time do you close he said eight I looked at the time it was about 7:30pm I looked over to see where their bathroom was and someone (worker) just came out and blocked off the area I told the cashier I wish they didn't do that (in a nice voice) and I said its not nice for the customers and he didn't say anything but he did roll his eyes and gestured his head in a rude manner as if hes mocking me in front of my kids. my son is seven years old and autistic and he didn't know what to do had to hold in his pee until we went next door business called "Spicy Lao Food" and they were closing at 8pm as well and we didn't buy anything there but we asked if my son can use their restroom they were so nice and said yes! That is a good business! people who treat you and your kids like human beings! and compassion. Not like the customer service here at 85 degrees. 85C definitely grew on me this past year. My first visit wasn't the greatest experience, but there's definitely truth in giving places second chances. In this case, a second chance turned into multiple visits. And now... ya girl is lightweight hooked. When I hit the park n' shop, I have to force myself to look the other way because I'll be in there like swimwear EVERY friggin' time! Lord knows this body doesn't need any more carbs or sweets. But when it comes to 85C... how can you NOT?! So many choices. So many delicious goodies. I have yet to try their milk teas, but them pastries is where it's at, folks! My go-to is their egg tarts. Highly addictive and highly delicious. I love how they come slightly browned at the top and how chewy and sticky the crust is. It's not what you'd find at an authentic Chinese bakery like in Oakland or SF Chinatown. BUT... I will shamelessly admit that I adore their version so much. It so tasty and I get it every time that I stop in. Everything else is kind of like a wild card after the egg tarts for me. I've had several of their pastries and cakes and for the most part, they've been yummy. I've gotten cakes for employee's birthdays and everyone has really enjoyed them. Practically anything baked with meat and/or cheese has been so scrumptious. I love the jalapeño cheese bread and the bacon and cheese bread. I mean, there's been a few misses but you can't really go wrong with the baked goods here. I try to choose at least one new item that I haven't tried when I visit. I will say that you need to pack some patience though because the lines can get painfully long during peak hours. But honestly, this place is worth it. Idk if its me, but if im going to go somewhere for sweet buns i'll drive to richmond and visit Shang Kee Bakery. Their quality and bang for your buck is a lot better than 85 degrees. Everything sweet wise @ 85 degrees is just way TOO sweet or too much dough to filling. The best thing i had was a sweet and spicy sausage bun. I had the opportunity to get some pastries at this 85C, so I opted for the garlic cheese bread and matcha choco bun. The garlic cheese bread is sweeter than you would expect, although it's also quite savory. It's actually fairly light and hollow inside, and not as strong of a garlic taste as you might expect. A good option if you like dairy and something a little bit sweet. (Note: I had already broken it in half and started eating it before I remembered I hadn't taken a photo, which is why my picture shows it broken in two) The matcha choco bun is also pretty good, the matcha part of it and the chocolate filling are quite sweet, I almost wish the matcha was even more bitter because I feel like that would balance out better with the sweet aspects. read more

They have a good selection of both sweet and savory pastries, with some of my and my husband's favorites being the hot dog bun, the salted chocolate chip cookies, the mini cheesecakes, and the jumbo guava cheese strudels. They have a nice assortment of cakes as well, sold whole or by the slice, which makes this a great bakery to pick something up for a birthday or other special occasion. For drinks, they have a decent selection as well. A go-to is definitely the sea salt caramel coffee. I recommend getting this 50% sweet unless you like it on the sweeter side. Service/checkout is usually quick and no fuss, but nothing super special. They usually keep the inventory of baked goods stocked well throughout the day, with only a limited supply toward the end of the day. The seating area isn't very large, so most people grab their drinks and pastries to-go. Still, there is space if you want to sit, eat, and chat for a while. Like I said, 85 Degree is consistent and convenient. Their pastries and drinks are worth giving a try, and their cakes are good for parties.
