You'll find outdoor seating and porch seating. It's nestled in the amazing small mountain town of Challis, Idaho where I went to high school. There are many outdoor activities in the area and a golf course not far from the restaurant. Their pizza buffet is my all-time favorite! Last time I was there I had a maple sprinkle donut that was to die for. The same fun barista is still there after all these years. I live in NY now and visit my hometown when I can. I highly recommend

Wish we had brought our kiddo to ride the bear!!! Definitely had the ambiance of a locals place, which elevated it in our book. We ordered the elk chili, the nachos with spicy beef and a couple salads. The chili comes out in a big bowl, and the nachos were piled high. Well, let me tell you. I SAVAGED those nachos. Meat and creamy cheese everywhere, slop all over my fingers. It was like feeding branches to a wood chipper. I mean, I did DAMAGE, for God and Country. The elk chili was fantastic. Great taste and large portion size. We managed to finish it off between two of us. By the time it was over, the table was pure CARNAGE. Chili bowl looked like it survived a zombie onslaught and there was meat, cheese and unidentifiable goodness everywhere near the nachos plate. I cleaned it up the best I could and AWESOME waitress BOBBIE C came and finished clearing the murder scene. Like that wasn't enough, we split a chocolate toffee mousse dessert. Creamy chocolate mousse goodness. Pure heaven. I know, after the chili AND nachos, there is going to be a plumbing WAR CRIME soon, but I would go back to Mountain Village Restaurant in a heartbeat. Can't recommend this place enough! Big thumbs up!!!

That wasn't cool, he seemed super grumpy. I notice things and people notice things in general. If you don't want to be friendly, then maybe a host isn't the job for you. The eating area was nice. It had enough space where you didn't feel like you are on top of each other. The server we had was actually super nice, I did not catch her name but was great. Attentive and friendly to us all. The food we ordered was the tri tip, peach salad with shrimp, mini cheeseburgers, soup, and chicken wings. The tri tip was smokey and tender but you barely got any. The taters I ordered were over fried in old oil, it didn't taste right. The peachy salad with the $7 add on for shrimp was a rip off, there were 5 total shrimp! $25 for this salad. Maybe 1/2 a peach. Wife described the shrimp as overcooked and rubbery. Shrimp should be slightly orange just past translucent and juicy. See photo. The mini cheeseburgers were mini but the kids liked them. Daughter liked the potato soup, and an order of chicken fingers had all fries the size of about a 1/2 in. It was weird, not sure if it was intentional as it was a kids meal. The other kids meal had normal sized fries. Overall it was disappointing. Also, I don't like restaurants who calculate the tip for the after tax amount...tip should be on the cost of the actual food, not also the tax. Come on people. Not worth it, I wouldn't stop here again.

However, my favorite part was the bakery. We tried the cranberry-lime poppyseed bread. I enjoyed it because it was not too sweet and the cranberries baked into it were delicious. My daughter had the lemon meringue tart and said it was good but a little dry. She enjoyed her big vanilla sprinkled macaron though. My absolute favorite was the seasonal offering of a strawberry-rhubarb tart. I cannot say how much I loved this pastry. It was perfect from the filling to the crust. The filling didn't taste like it had any added sugar and the strawberries served as the sweet to the tart of the rhubarb. The crust was light and you could see the layers that were just firm enough but melded perfectly with the pie filling. There was a brown sugar oatmeal and butter crumble on top that added all the sweet you need. I wish I could eat this every day and will come to visit every time I am back this way just for the chance to savor this perfect pastry again. Thank you!
