Galena is literally my favorite place in the world. You may think this is an exaggeration, but I can back it up! I got married here, took most of my xc ski lessons here, and come as often as I can in both winter (ski) and summer (mtb/trail running). Food is simple but delicious, they even have good beer / wine / spirits. Prices are very reasonable, especially for kid things like ski rentals ($15 for a classic pkg). First time at Galena Lodge, I was very impressed with the foods, it was very tasty and fresh, definitely exceeded my expectation. They were very busy but yet the service was great and fast, it seems like they are used to the rush, they are very organized. I was there two separate days and they both were good. The first day I rode the Lodge Loop, Gladiator, and Rip & Tear. The Lodge Loop was pretty easy. The hardest part was the beginning. The Gladiator was pretty much only up hill. Rip and Tear had both uphill and downhill. The downhill was SO much fun. This is the order I did the ride. I went up Lodge Loop until the split then I went up Gladiator, then Rip and Tear. After that I went back and did the whole Lodge Loop. Before I did the whole Lodge Loop I got food at the lodge. I got the special for that day; it was a bratwurst. It came with beer cheese and relish. I got both things on the side. It came with fries those I recommend. The other people in my party got a burger and a basket of fries with beer cheese. It was a little pricy but worth it. The next day that we went there we biked the Senate Loop and the Galena View Loop. 3 of us did it twice and did about 9 miles. However it does not put a lot of strain on your legs the uphill looks intimidating but not super bad. After we did that we got ice cream. I got the chocolate absolutely delicious. And for $4.50 it was worth it as well. They are very generous with the scoops. The other person who got ice cream got half caramel espresso and half huckleberry. By the way the cone is a little small. Even though it is out of the way I think that it is better than most ice cream places. It is about 45 minutes outside of Ketchum. Beautiful hiking trail/snow shoe trail. There are several trails that you can hike up to. In the winter, you can either do snow shoe or cross country skiing. We went up to yurts area. The view is spectacular on the way up. Shortly you'll be in the woods and in the shade. After the hike, we went to the lodge for lunch. Bowdie is the friendliest and sweetest dog you'd ever met. We order the kimchi tofu rice, curry bowl. Both are vegan and exceptional delicious! The lentil soup is really tasty as well. One of the best places I know for amateur cross-country skiing. Includes a very decent rental shop and a large network of trails. The food is solid but uninspiring (as expected at a ski hut). Note the 7000+ feet elevation and don't push hard if you are not acclimated yet. read more

I visited Galena for a long weekend in January 2016 because a good friend was working there for the winter. We took advantage of the snowshoes and ski rentals and explored some of their dog friendly trails. The snowshoe trail was my favorite, winding through the snowy mountain woods. Back in the lodge we sampled the fare: tasty soup and baked goods (don't miss the Don bars). The prices were what you should expect in the mountains. I didn't stay in the yurts but if my experience at the lodge is any indication, I expect a night or two in a Galena yurt would be an enjoyable mountain adventure! If you're in the Ketchum area for a sunny winter weekend it would be a mistake to skip Galena! Note: no cell service or public wireless at the lodge. read more

We attended their "Full Moon Dinner" this January. It was AMAZING! The staff is very friendly (we arrived very early and had a few drinks by the fire while we waited for dinner seating). Appetizer: Seared potato cake with spicy remoulade and crispy bacon over mixed greens with potato crisps Soup: Grilled tomato w/ caramelized fennel Entree choices: Roasted pork loin w/ blueberry BBQ sauce, roasted red potatoes and a carrot parsnip puree with crispy parsnip chips Or Grilled mahi-mahi w/ a roasted tomato and caper salsa, quinoa pilaf and a carrot parsnip puree and toasted pumpkin seeds Dessert: citrus cheese cake w/ whipped cream and raspberry sauce No full moon skiing since it was snowing, but we skied the trails around the lodge the next day. Got out of the car and heard music! I love music during lunch time, and it was live! They had a Dog area to seat with a beautiful waterfall and the usual area.Huge patio area and a huge green field to play with the kids or some freesbe time! People where everywhere, but there was plenty of seating area! I got a Tuna Salad and my man got Smoked Turkey Sandwich-- ALL OF IT WAS FRESH. Our choice of drinks: MAC AND JAC Uhhhh love it! I can't find this beverage anywhere other than the NW area, so I was pleased to see the choices of beer had my own favorite! I was there for their recent full moon dinner. We had a wonderful four course dinner, followed by snowshoeing on a clear, cold Idaho evening, lit by a vibrant full moon. It was a fabulous experience. The lodge is a cozy place to be, with a room off to the side, with a large fireplace and comfy sofas. The food was well prepared and nicely portioned (there was a choice of entrées, and special diets could be accommodated if they are notified in advance). There is no cell service and no Wi-Fi. It was a welcome retreat from the buzz of every day life! read more

Gelena is a great place to go when visiting Sun Valley. We traveled up there to go skate/nordic skiing. It is beautiful, allows dogs (for a $5 fee), and is a great alternative to downhill skiing. You can rent boots, nordic skis and poles and the map is easy to read. There is a nice restaurant (try the elk burger!) after your work-out. And you'll need it! If you forget gloves or hats or even your coat, there is a gift shop, too. read more

Every time I'm in Sun Valley I like to break up the downhill experience with a day of nordic skiing at Galena Lodge about 20 miles north of Ketchum up Highway 75. With affordable rentals, an extensive network of trails (some dog friendly, fyi) and a cozy lodge, Galena's a thoroughly high quality, low key experience and a Sun Valley must. Pros -Trails - lots to choose from with a wide range of technical difficulty and length to suit skiers of all abilities. -Dog Friendly - -Good food and drinks at the lodge. -Power - when Ketchum went dark on the Christmas-day blackout, Galena fired up their generator and was cooking with gas. -Snow - at the north end of the Wood River Valley, Galena gets more snow than other nordic trail systems in the area. -Scenery - close to the high peaks of the Boulder and Smoky Mountain chains. -Affordable - even with gear rentals and trail fees, this is the least expensive good time to be had in Sun Valley. Cons -None that I can think of. read more

Easy is how I would describe working with Erin at Galena for our wedding. She knows her stuff and can make your big day way less stressful. She is incredibly accommodating and thorough with all of the details leading up to the event. She never tried to oversell anything or pressure us into something we weren't comfortable with. We could not have trusted Erin anymore with handling the amazing venue that is Galena. We also would highly recommend talking to her about the local Ginger Beer used for their Moscow Mules. read more

A fantastic retreat in the winter with a host of x-country and snowshoe trails. Lessons and gear rentals are available at a reasonable rate. The kids love the small sledding hill next to the lodge. There are a few sleds there to use, but would recommend bringing a sled for the kids. At peak season, the sledding hill can get really crowded. The scenery is hard to beat. A winter wonderland. The food is great, and reasonably priced. Galena is wonderful in the summer as well. Lots of great trails into high mountain lakes, with most accessible for kids. It is high elevation though, so plan accordingly The lodge is dog friendly, and there are a host of dog friendly trails. Highly recommended. read more

The greens in the salad were so yummy and interesting different varieties. Radish greens on top of the fish were fresh and spicy. Stopped for lunch here after a morning hike to Baker Lake. Bruce Innes was playing music on the deck on a beautiful, warm July day. The food was delicious (all homemade, using fresh, organic ingredients), the waitstaff was friendly, attentive and made us feel more like we were lunch guests at their home, rather than customers at a restaurant. They also have an extensive beer, wine and alcohol selection...perfect for lounging in the lawnside Adirondack chairs listening to music. Galena Lodge is one of my most favorite places in the Ketchum/Sun Valley area. Their food is some of the best in the valley. The Don's bars are unmatched . You have to try one to know what I am talking about. Really, their entire menu is delicious...the hot chocolate, the veggie quesadilla, the foccacia Pizza. They really do it right. The people are friendly (Don & Erin are great), the atmosphere is awesome and there are not better views. Their NYE dinner is one of my favorite holiday traditions. I cannot say enough good things about it! The skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, mt. biking etc from the Lodge is also incredible. read more

We came to Galena Lodge to rent some bikes and ended up getting more than we anticipated! The man handling the bike shop was very enthusiastic, realistic and knowledgable on the trails. He recommended some great ones for us intermediate riders and we had a great time. Hungry after our rides, we stopped in the lodge to get lunch and drinks. The menu is sophisticated for a lodge and it even has a full bar! Everything ordered was awesome, southwest chicken salad, pork mojo, and the adult grilled cheese. Yummy stuff. Surprisingly the drinks were also amazing! A much better than average margarita and Bloody Mary. The place was perfect for an after ride lunch. Would definitely come back and recommend!!!! read more

My wife and I ended up nordic skiing for six days at Galena last month when a friend had to cancel our planned alpine skiing at Bald Mountain. What a pleasant surprise! Although we still love our skiing on Mount Hood, Galena had the best snow and grooming we experienced this season and the cosy lodge, with a fully stocked ski shop and excellent restaurant really wowed us. We especially loved the special dinner and moonlight skiing (requires reservations). We're going back next year. read more

Four of us visited Galena Lodge in Sept 2016 to do some mtn biking. The guy in the gear room was friendly, helpful and did not try to over-sell us anything. The mtn bike trails we rode ranged from some nice uphill ones to totally awesome flow! Probably the most fun flow trails I've ridden. We were told that there were plans to put in more trails up the mountains a bit to lengthen the rides and make more advanced technical riding possible. I would love to come back to Galena Lodge again! Please keep up the good work Galena Lodge!! read more

I attended a wedding rehearsal dinner here. The rustic lodge was perfect for the western-themed affair. The food was delicious (lamb burger was excellent), the drinks were strong and they even had horse drawn hay rides for the guests. My family and I visited Galena Lodge a few days ago. We were staying at the Sun Valley Lodge but there was no snow. The concierge suggested that we go there to snow shoe. I called the day before and spoke with Julianne, who was super friendly and helpful. I told her hat there would be 2 adults and 1 child to snowshoe. She set us up with an hour long guided tour with Kyle. We took an uber up the mountain and the scenery was beautiful. Once we arrived we were warmly greeted by the staff and told to hang out in the comfy lodge for a bit. We had a little snack and then met Kyle in the ski office. He was very friendly and engaging with our 7 year old. We started the tour and he was extremely knowledgable and very patient with us. He gave us some information about the property and the wildlife. He was so nice that we decided to book a cross country skiing tour for that afternoon. We ate lunch in the lodge, which was very good, and then went out on our skiing lesson. During both lessons he was patient and he was able to modify the lessons to meet all of our levels. It's true that any age and any skill level can do the activities. read more

I usually do not write reviews, but I feel I must write about the Galena Lodge. We recently held a catered event (my son's wedding) at the Galena Lodge. On the positive side, BEFORE I received the final bill, the food was excellent and the staff was easy to work with. When I received my final bill, I was charged for the dinner for the waitstaff!!! I've never heard of anything like this before!! At $40 per plate this is outrageous!! No where on the contract does it state that I would be responsible for feeding the staff!! I contacted several other places in the Sun Valley area and posed this question to their catering staff. All of them said that their places do not charge for that and they felt it was highway robbery for a place to charge for meals for the staff!! I also feel that the staff pilfered some of our wine. We were charged for way too many bottles than I know this group would drink....but then how do you prove that. I guess I could have asked to see the used bottles at the end of the night before I saw the bill. Anyway, my recommendation for all who read this who are looking to book this place as a venue....beware of what is going to bite you in the A** with the final bill. read more
