The Sun Valley Resort was built in 1936 by the Union Pacific Railroad. It is located in the Northern Rockies region of south-central Idaho & is open year round. There are many outdoor recreational activities. At the base of Bald & Dollar Mountains are scenic vistas, sports & activities. The grounds are meticulous, lush & serene. There are many shady places to sit & enjoy the landscapes. We are over 5,000 ft high so it's cool, breezy & dry. There is a camp with children's activities. The outedoor ice rink near the pool are luxurious. A racquet center with tennis & pickleball courts was busy. Bike rentals & horseback riding were popular. There are many dining & shopping options at various price points, however nothing here is a bargain. I did find beautiful unique gifts in the shops. The mountaintop dining options are closed for the season. From the moment we pulled up to valet, everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. The property is spotless, beautifully maintained, and full of history and charm. We visited during the film festival, so the energy was buzzing and festive--such a fun time to be there! I can't say enough great things about this place! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away. The room was massive, beautifully designed, and packed with great amenities--a cozy fireplace in the living room and a huge bathtub that felt like a personal spa. The little details, like the door openers at the front of the property, made everything feel extra convenient. This is easily one of the best properties I've ever stayed at. The food was excellent every time, though I will say things tend to close early and can be a bit pricey. That said, the overall experience more than made up for it. This property is sprawling and beautiful. The rooms are decent-sized and the decor is lovely and reflects the style of the mountain town for which it's named. There is plenty to do year round and they even have an ice rink for skating! The staff is friendly and helpful. Some of the salon staff seemed a bit inexperienced, unfortunately. Everyone who had their hair done for the wedding we were attending came out with the exact same hairstyle. We had four days of traditional wedding events that took us over town and I wish I planned more time to enjoy the hotel property. It's truly lovely. read more

Gorgeous property. The views are absolutely stunning. Rooms are spacious, with plenty of storage. Restaurants were great, delicious food. However the service was below par. The only place that I felt like we got good service was in the bowling alley and spa. When we checked in the reception attendant, a male, was extremely rude and dismissive. It just seemed like everyone was inconvenienced. The spa was really nice, and the therapist was great. The relaxation room was very peaceful. Lots to do on property as well. Ice scaring rink, movies, shopping, and sleigh rides. There's a shuttle service to and from the airport as well which is super nice. Widest runs. Incredibly steep pitch. And long long runs. I swear I've been on so many runs and have had no one on the mountain. It's the craziest experience do fly down Greyhawk or Cozy and not have anyone there! Love this place. I have a Snowbasin pass so I get 5 days here. So worth the drive to come up. For the last eight years a group of my friends and I have made an annual pilgrimage to ski at Sun Valley. And our commitment to return is based on its quality as a premier ski resort with a great variety of ski runs, well maintained lifts and classy lodge facilities. It is a bit remote, but the benefit is that crowds are never an issue. I'd suggest that this isn't a mountain for beginners, as the runs are long moderately steep and challenging. But the runs are groomed nightly and the snow quality is generally very good. For an easier mountain, the associated Dollar Mountain is a nice location for kids, families and to rest your legs on some quick runs after a few hard days on the big mountain. It's worth the drive to ski this world class resort in Idaho. read more

During frequent trips to Sun Valley I always love spending time at this resort. While we always stay with my in-laws in Ketchum, we find ourselves here often whether it's to eat, enjoy the spa/pool, feed the ducks, shop, and more. My kids can't get enough of all the amazing activities they have from the pool (basically a ginormous hot tub in the winter) to ice skating to the recently renovated arcade/bowling alley. On our most recent visit they begged to stay a night at this fancy hotel, but my husband and I had a better idea to get a room for ourselves while the kids had some quality time with their grandparents. We booked a room at the Inn, but due to low capacity at the lodge were upgraded...silver linings of the pandemic. The room itself was comfortable, but a bit stuffy. The real beauty of the resort is outside the hotel room. During our stay I enjoyed some time at the spa. I've been to the spa in the past and had much better experiences since they were a bit disorganized (possibly short staffed?) during this time. Regardless really enjoyed my first massage in over a year thanks to the pandemic. My absolute favorite restaurant at the resort is the Konditorei Bakery and Cafe. I could happily eat lunch here everyday and have done just that on some trips after a morning of skiing (the resort is an easy shuttle ride from the mountains). Another great option with kids is Village Station for a fun casual atmosphere and tasty food. While the pool can only be used for the guests at the hotel or spa, I love that the rest of their amenities/activities are open to anyone. We'll likely be back this summer and look forward to beautiful summer days at the Resort! read more

My family has been visiting since the 60's. Each generation has owned a second home here. I was married in Sun Valley and it's truly one of the best places on earth. It is a beautiful combination of elegant, rustic and charming. Unassuming and some looking to feel special, which I love! However, I fear its losing its level of refinement when it comes to experience. As an example, sadly the Duchin Room has no soul. It feels and aesthetically looks like a Marriott. I spent my wedding night at the Duchin, it was the after party. It used to be classic, dark, and elegant. It was like New York but in the mountains. Today, it's got art that looks like it was bought on Etsy, no reference to the name Duchin. No soul. read more

I've been to this resort once in 2019 and again in 2023. Both times have been great. I was there for an event and the staff did a great job putting smiles on our faces. The food that was served did not have a lot of variety and was also pretty bland and mostly dry. The food we ate was mostly all catering so my food comments were not based on the restaurants. I did eat at Gretchen's and the food was pretty good! Overall, Sun Valley is a super cute town, great skiing, and relaxing. I also went bowling and the pin setting machine did not work well at all and the lanes were over oiled like a slip and slide. read more

It used to be special but now it seems it aspires to be the next Vail or Aspen with worse snow. Prices are sky high. Lift lines grow every year. Snow is very iffy until February. This is not a powder skiing experience like Utah. There is no parking in town and Ketchum's charm has faded as they build humongous buildings. Local retailers are being squeezed out by national chain stores. It's starting to remind me of Breck but without the snow and harder to get to. There are almost no locals left--they have been replaced by cheap and under trained J1 visa seasonal workers. A sad destruction of what used to be one of America's great ski towns. read more

I loved this place, I understand that it's more money than best western and Hilton, but there is a reason. I feel that this place is a better value (and City) than Shore Lodge in McCall, ID. Many options close by to eat and shop. I will visit again. Only complaint was that the door key kept shocking me when I would open the door. read more

Spent a week staying in the Sun Valley Lodge Apartments as part of a ski trip with a group of 38. First I have to compliment the staff of the Lodge who really go above and beyond to make a visit special. They managed to get our group from the airport to the Lodge and moved in to the condominiums with a minimum of fuss; even when they left one of my bags at the Lodge when we were flying out, they managed to locate it and get it to the airport and on the plane before we left. Overall excellent service by all of the staff. The condos we were staying in were nice, the main room had the kitchen and living room with a larger bedroom upstairs and a smaller bedroom attached with its own bathroom. The rooms were nicely decorated and well maintained. In addition the cleaning staff did a nice job every day. The downside of the condos is that they were about a 5 minute walk to the bus stop and you had a bit of a hike outside to get to the pool and hot tub, luckily they provide some nice cozy robes to wear. The lodge itself is worth a visit, with the outside skating rink just in back, a heated pool, large hot tub and even a small bowling alley downstairs. The lodge is decorated with pictures of various celebrities who have visited Sun Valley over the years along with the kind of decor you would expect at an upscale lodge. The village at the Lodge has a number of shops as well as some nice restaurants so there are things to do at the Lodge. The Bus system works well to get you to the Bald Mountain ski area as well as downtown Ketchum where most of the action is; you just need to pay attention to the schedule and which bus is coming through. If you are staying at the Lodge you can check your skis for free at the Pete Lane ski storage at the base area which makes skiing multiple days much easier. read more

Fine dining, beautiful scenery, with a professional out look over all. You can tell if you stayed there it would be expensive but super nice. Staff was kind. I can't begin to say how disappointed I am with the experience of staying at the Lodge. Dated room that is literally subterranean, so a view of dirt ( and it's supposed to be, and we paid for, a suite.) Catering department that couldn't put together a small party without 5-7 days notice, even though no meetings n the building ( felt pushed into very expensive accommodation.) Staff that tried but were unable to execute, and upper management that never responded. They are the only game in town, so clearly taking advantage. Many fabulous ski resorts in the US that are equally historic, so choose somewhere else. I average over 100 hotel nights a year, so know how this is supposed to go. read more

I don't understand how Sun Valley only has 3.5 stars on Yelp. It's a masterpiece. We stayed at the new villager condos which had access to the resort pools. We spent multiple nights enjoying the pool at the sun valley inn. Gorgeous views after skiing and was perfect after logging some solid vertical. Trees draped in gorgeous lights, a clock tower and friendly staff. What else could you want? Fun to walk around the resort and eat there too. Definitely a gem here in Idaho. read more

The BEST Spa around. While the prices are high, they are consistent with resort pricing. For a 50 minute Signature massage ($150) you get access to their amazing outdoor salt-water 95 degree hot tub. My husband and I spent 4+ hours including our massages enjoying the spa, lunch and the outdoor hot tub. We enjoyed lunch at the Poolside Cafe attached to the spa - I ordered the Chicken Caesar ($15) which was delicious although a small-ish portion. My husband ordered the Pork Carnitas Quesadilla ($12) which was a hit. Booze is a tad steep but you have 'hot tub' service with the bar tender bringing you drinks while you're soaking. We booked this hotel planning to ski with our sons But found out a few days before the ski resort was closed for the season. But we had a great time anyway We checked out the resort went ice skating hung at the heated pool. The Ram restaurant and the kodetorei both had great food along with gretchens at the resort. Everyone at the hotel was very nice and helpful. Pia at front desk was very nice to our family to. Gerald the valet was very nice to. Nice accommodations. The decor is rustic, but cute. My room was spacious and clean. For the first floor near an exit it was fairly quite. I did hear a lot of movement from the room above me early in the mornings, but I didn't hear talking or TVs from the rooms around me, so that was a plus. The inn was central to everything in the Sun Valley resort. Keep in mind this is a resort so restaurant and room service prices seemed a little steep to me. And the two restaurants at the inn didn't open until 4 or 5 pm. The room had a mini fridge but no microwave so plan accordingly. Two complaints about the room: 1, the room had a very strong perfume smell. Might be the cleaner housekeeping uses, but I had to keep a window open most of the time to air out the room to avoid a headache. 2, the pillows on the bed. Way too big and stiff. Four sleeping pillows were on a double sized bed and all ended up on the floor because they were all hard and huge. Needless to say, I did not sleep well the two nights I was there. Very friendly staff and bell service. Always available to answer questions. I was there for a work conference, but can't wait to visit for pleasure. Very close to Ketchum too. Lots more food/restaurant choices for a very short drive from the inn. Easy drive from Boise for a weekend getaway. read more

It's "the place" to stay while in Sun Valley, an old lodge and inn with tradition, but remodeled and updated. It might be pricey depending on the time of the year, but great place for hiking and biking in the summer, or skiing the winter. Chances are you are coming here for a work event, but there are plenty of options for fun and play. They have everything from conference rooms (where your work stuff will happen, in both the lodge and the inn), restaurants, bakery, dessert places, a brewery, ice skating ring, pool, golf course nearby, hiking/biking trails and everything in between! Even a movie theater and bowling alleys, and if this is not enough, you can ask for a car ride to Ketchum about a mile away, where more restaurants await you. So chances are you will find stuff to do at all times, or use their all over the place wifi to go online if you don't! read more

Very disappointing stay! They promise a year round resort but it's not true! After the ski season they shut down many of the amenities for repairs and there is nothing there until the summer! To top it off, despite the resort being abandoned, I had a mix up on my business travel (I had to book the hotel and my work booked the flight). I was confused by the dates and booked the wrong dates! I got a no show bill and I explained my company wouldn't reimburse me! They said there was nothing they could do because I kept out other guest from their empty resort! Sad! Pathetic! Totally not nice people! Wouldn't bother to help! Not even Airbnb has been so unreasonable! I would recommend all conference goers to stay away! There are better conference locations this time of year! Didn't order drinks as frankly we were eager to leave. Had been there the night prior and had fantastic service! Bartender on Columbus Day 2021 evening sucked. Red head with an attitude. The pool rules are ridiculous. Two hour timeframe so they can clean with chemicals for the next group. We were the only ones in the pool! Common sense has fallen on the wayside. This weekend was my first time in Sun Valley. I was here for a wedding and blown away by the incredible scenery... The bride and groom reserved a block of rooms at Sun Valley Resort, and after a three night stay, I see why! The Sun Valley Resort is charming and comfortable. Their staff is incredibly friendly and attentive (except for one bitchy spa manager) - separate review on that later. The resort offers free shuttles to and from the airport, the doormen are always smiling and welcoming, the front desk people go above and beyond for guests, and the location of the resort is awesome for nearby hiking and biking. The resort offers three different lodging options. I stayed in the main lodge with my friend Julie, but other wedding attendees stayed in the Inn and in apartments on the property. Everyone seemed pleased with the accommodations. I feel like three nights is not enough to explore everything the property has to offer. We did find an awesome coffee shop and noticed there are bike rentals and an ice skating rink. We took advantage of the hiking trails across the street and took advantage to the gym, pool, and spa... I hope to return to Sun Valley again in the future and when I do, I won't hesitate to stay here again! read more

SUN VALLEY, ID: This is a really nice property, in a beautiful location, and has impeccable service. The golf is as beautiful here as anywhere in the country and the ambience is peaceful. The banquet food is average if you are here for a large event; not bad, a couple good dishes, and some poor ones. The restaurants at the resort are hit and miss as well, and at a 30% surcharge. The actual hotel is in need of a major renovation. It is like staying at your rich grandmother's house: it's expensive, outdated, cozy, and smells like a nursing home. They are renovating the larger lodge, hopefully they will do a good job and get to the inn as well. I can't comment on the skiing since I've only come during the summer and fall months. read more
