I was fitted by their staff for a premium full suspension mountain bike. Paid about $90 for a 4 hr rental. Went up to Galena to ride the Harriman trail. Got on the bike and my friends laughed and said a 6 foot tall woman should not have been fitted w a small size bike. Luckily my daughter is 5' 6" so she could ride it and I just jacked her seat up to the max. When I returned the bike and told the guy that I couldn't use the bike because it was so small he said "oh" and walked away. read more

He made sure every bike fit before we rented them, even racing to his other shop to get a better fitting seat. David clearly knows his stuff. These guys know and understand customer service. My husband and I are both local UPS drivers in Blaine County and this is the first year we're able to afford skiing. Last summer I purchased a pair of old rental skis from the Sturtevants in Hailey for $60 there was a whole rack of skis priced between $60-$100. It worked out perfect, I was able to throw them in the back of my UPS truck and go on with my day. Today, March 25th 2023, my husband and I dropped in to Sturtevants in Ketchum to either rent some rental skis or possibly purchase some rental skis for him. When I asked the middle aged man that was helping us if they had some cheap rentals we could purchase, he asked if we were renting or buying. I explained that we might like to buy since I'd been able to get my rentals for $60 in the summer and since it's the end of the season I was wondering if they had any good deals or if they had some skis around $100. The man helping us scoffed at me and told me that they don't sell skis for $60. I again asked if he might have any around $100, he told me no. He didn't offer me any prices or talk to me about it at all. We ended up proceeding with renting skis and when my husband was entering his information the Sturtevants employee started grabbing a set of skis for him. This would be my husband's second time skiing and the last time we rented skis for him he felt out of control, so I suggested that we might try to get him shorter skis and the employee told me no and that the skis he had which comes a little above my husband's chin, we're the shortest he'd be willing to rent to him. When we went to check out since it was 12:30 pm my husband asked if we could rent them for a half day today and a whole day for tomorrow. The employee, again scoffed and said no. I'm not sure why this interaction went the way it did, but we left feeling that this employee didn't care about us at all. He came off in a very condescending, rude way. The overall experience was terrible. In the future we definitely won't be using Sturtevants, but I hope that in the future nobody is treated the way my husband and I were. read more

Worked with Sturtevants on several issues and the experience varied wildly. I purchased demo skis from them and overall thought this experience was good - you basically get one say to try out as many skis as you would like, and have the rental fee credited towards your purchase. I would recommend doing your own research prior to coming in and having an idea of what you're looking for - they make recommendations, but having an idea of what's on the market and if you're getting a good price is a good idea. Most of this was done at the Warm Springs location. I had a rather poor experience regarding boots at the Warm Springs location. I rented boots for a couple days as my boots were being shipped in from out of state. After a couple hours on these out of state boots, they didn't feel great and I brought them in to see if anything could be done for them (it had been a few years since I'd last worn them). I was resolutely told that they were the wrong size and that I needed new boots because the one's I had were too big. They offered to sell me rentals, which I thought sounded like a great deal, but after a day with them decided that they didn't fit quite right. Still, they recommended i buy new boots. Following this, I went to the downtown Ketchum location, fully prepared to buy new boots. After working with Matt, he helped diagnose the problem with my existing boots and spent time helping me fix them. Ended up that my old boots were totally fine and there were just some issues with my feet being a bit different sized. Thanks to Matt, I saved $500 that I would've spent on new boots. tl;dr: I'd highly recommend Matt for boot fitting/buying boots but would probably not recommend the warm springs location outside of rentals and tune ups. read more

I brought my disabled daughter to rent skis/boots there and I received HORRIBLE customer service from the manager, David. David shamed me because I was struggling to get the ski boots on my daughter's feet. She has hypotonia so it's difficult to put any shoe on her feet, let alone a ski boot. David refused to help me get the boot on because it was 'my responsibility'. This is a type of bigotry called ABLEISM and it needs to stop NOW. I will never shop at Sturtevants again. read more

This is not the place to go if you want customer service. Rented bikes here and spent quite a bit of money. Great bikes. No assessing if the bike was right for our size. No adjusting our seats. We had to ask for helmets. Simply put, we felt like we were imposing. read more

Very disappointed in their bike rentals. I rented 2 Performance gravel bikes for 5 days. The Performance gravel bike as the called it was a entry level gravel bike. For $80 a day it was a joke. The components were the lowest of the lowest. The brakes on the woman's bike didn't work at all. Very scary to so the least, descending. First day, had to take the bike back in because I was unable to get in the big ring. I would think they would go over the bike after each rental to make sure it works perfect. Employees weren't concerned at all that the bikes we rented weren't up to par. If you know anything about bikes, and want something more then an entry level bike. I would look else where before renting from Sturtevants. read more

went in on august 13th to look around. I got talking to Dane the lead tech there. he Let me test ride a e bike. Wow never seen or rode one but he let me test it. We talked about an hour like I was the only customer in the store and he wasn't just trying to push me away like other stores would if you didnt plan on buying. I can't say enough about the wonderful customer service at Sturtevants I had received. I came in to get inserts to relieve pain from plantar fasciitis which flared up intensely a few days before Sun Valley marathon. Seth , very knowledgeable, had inserts custom made for me. To cut the story short , He went above and beyond to help me and thanks to Seth , I was able to run the marathon the next day. Even though I had to change the plan from "race" to a long run because of the injury, I managed to take first in my age group . read more

Wow! I was shocked by how poorly I was treated yesterday when I called both shops to find some ski poles to replace my Slalom race poles. I'd broken one the day before arriving here while skiing Brundage Mtn.. I came to SV to race in the Masters Memorial Cup races, so needed them badly, but these employees didn't seem to care. 5 star boot fitters! Sturtevants went above and beyond and didn't charge a penny to fit boots I purchased 3 years ago elsewhere. They claimed the fix was so easy, "not to worry about it" and worked on my boots FOUR TIMES to get the fit perfect for me. For free (but I did tip!). I had very sore inside ankles on both sides and they worked to bump out the shells and get them just right. I went twice to the store on Main Street in Ketchum and then to the Warm Springs store near the slopes for a few final tweaks. Hooray! Happy feet! read more

We read some Yelp reviews and decided to try this place, a couple blocks away from the awesome bike trail that is a conversion from the former Union Pacific line. Great, friendly service, quick. Went there to rent 2 city bikes in early August on a Monday at around noon. No wait, Signed up and out in about 15 minutes, paperwork, helmets and all. And had a great 28 mile jaunt down the riverside trail. Bikes were in great repair, well maintained. Easy one-beep scan for check in and we were off to dinner. read more

They treat their customers with respect. Great people, great inventory. It just feels good there. Do NOT shop at the bike shop across the street called Formula Sports. They are rude to the Hispanic patrons and have employees that insult their customers. Really a small-town sense of customer service. When you insult customers, it follows you forever. The entire team at Sturtevants went out of their way to get my dialed in to the Mtn biking in and around sun valley. If you're even toying with the idea of doing some Mtn biking out here swing by and talk to these guys. There is mountain biking right from the shop so if you don't have a rental car you're fine! There is also legendary Mtn biking on Bald Mtn as well as really fun single track a little south of Ketchum. The guys at the shop spent a lot of time with me making sure I had the right bike rental, knew where I was going, and that I had all the proper equipment. On vacation, it's Not so much about the cost of a rental or experience as it is the wasted time taken from Family and loved ones resulting from a bad experience. I had the latter elsewhere and was impressed by Sturtevant's attention to detail, interest in finding the right fit for me, and ensuring the best possible ride based on my own experience. Extremely disappointed this year in the lack of customer service. I came in to shop for a pair of ski pants and the lady working apparel ignored me and never offered any help. She was apparently 'too busy' helping another customer prance about the store and look for something that was cute. When I grabbed what I needed, tried on, made eye contact with her and waited at the counter to pay she didn't come over to help me check out. After waiting 15 minutes to pay, she finally came over and grabbed the ski pants and asked if I wanted anything else. Again, zero eye contact, never asked if I found everything I was looking for, and was very rude. Never said thank you. If I wasn't desperate for ski pants that were left at home, I would have walked out and not been a patron here. 2 stars for the store having what I needed. One star for the complete lack of respect and poor service. read more

The wife & I needed bikes for a few days. Most of the rental shops in the area have competitive prices... But we're in need of a coffee fix, Java on Fourth Coffee Cafe is nearby Sturtevant's...and Sturtevant's rents bikes out for multi-day outings. We talk to the guy behind the counter & he points to the rates up on the wall. Different rates for cruiser, mountain & road bikes...we opt for the mtn bikes since we'll be riding them on dirt paths to and from our cabin to the lodge & taking them thru bike trails at Redfish Lake. Although helmets come with bike rentals, I was in the market for a new one & their prices were reasonable. I found the same off road Giro helmet I was in the market for; for $15 less than if I bought it at back home at my LBS...and I can't ride w/out gloves! Great prices on those as well. New helmet AND gloves? Happy Birthday to me! It started getting crowded in the store & decided it was time to get the ball rollin' & check out of this joint. We told the guy we were ready & he asked for a moment while he helped someone in line before us. "Sure buddy..." Several minutes later, standing right in front of him, he asks, "who's next?" Before I could say anything he started helping the couple that walked in AFTER us. C'mon man! I know it can get hectic up in here...but really? I just spoke to you 5 minutes ago! Rent your bikes first thing in the a.m. Though it was almost noon, we were charged for the whole first day. ...anyway, dropping off the bikes after was a much better process. Bar codes on the bikes are scanned, a receipt is printed out, you make sure that the bill is correct before leaving the premises & you're golden. FYI: the bike shop turns into a ski-rental shop in the winter. Looks like we'll be back then. I'm deez® & you've just been pimped! Peace. read more

My family and I have been renting equipment and shopping at sturtevant's for over 20 years. I have to say after many years of visiting we finally figured out that this was hands down the best place to rent our gear in the valley. In fact my snowboard, snowboard bag, one pair of bindings, googles and many other items are from this store. I recently rented skis, ski boots, poles, and a helmet from this shop. Although I had a pleasurable experience with the boot fitting, the rest of the service was poor, and we've decided to not use this company in the future. When we attempted to return our gear, they were very disorganized and seemed put out by our request for help. The employee behind the check-in station was extremely rude and said he couldn't deal with our request. We didn't understand our bill (which was over $300) so we asked for an itemized receipt which we never goWe just wanted to make sure we weren't charged twice for anything. I find it surprising that such a high-end business is unable to explain their charges. When I rent a car or a hotel room, they seem to be able to provide a record of what they are charging me without any attitude. All in all we felt less like paying customers and more of a burden. With that being said, the boot fitting and the equipment were excellent quality. read more

My friend recommended a visit. We were looking for a rental for my wife, some trail recommendations, and a possible shuttle. Staff was super surly - end of the season I guess. Very few rentals available on a Thursday and most thrashed - end of season I guess. Crappy vibe. Went down the street to another shop and got great service, a nearly new bike for a couple days (and $20 cheaper) and some great trail recommendations with smiles. Not new to cycling or bike shops and well aware of this brand in Bellevue and Sun Valley. But these guys came up way short this time. I am sure there are good people that work here but we didn't find them during our visit. read more

I was hesitant about this place because they are a multi-sport shop, fly fishing, bikes, and other stuff, which usually means they do a few things mediocre and nothing well. I walked in and they were super friendly. I only stopped in for a map and trail info, Nick, the young kid who helped me, was pretty fantastic and explained the trails I was looking for and was pretty cool. The shop looked pretty well stocked, i am not giving it 5 stars because i didn't get any service or need any parts, so i don't know how that is. Also, Deano, who worked in the fishing/hiking part of the store, we super helpful with camping information. The whole staff was friendly and I would definitely go back. read more

I went to Sturtevants more than 5 times for bike related services. I found the customer service to be hit or miss. The soft goods had great service and I always felt respected by the employees working there. I did not feel the same with the bike shop staff. While I had great service at the bike shop once, the rest of my visits (including buying a bike!) were honestly terrible. I dread going there because the bike staff is rude and dismissive. Sturtevants probably has the best offering in town for bike related things but I will avoid going there in the future to avoid feeling belittled by the bike staff. read more

I came in from out of town and before we could even start riding I experienced a mechanical that I couldn't handle myself. I headed over to Sturtevant's and without hesitation they took my wheel and cassette and provided the assistance I needed to get rolling (hah) for the day. The team fixed my issue while I was standing there and answered all my questions about why and how it happened. While we were waiting for the awesome shop guys to fix the issue, we were met with open arms and given trail recommendations and local knowledge of the area. If I could give 0 I could. I went into rent skis today, to use tomorrow. I'm a long time snowboarder and was excited to be shifting to skiing. I've rented twice from the trip, both time from the mountain. Being freedom Seattle, and knowing Sturtevants, I wanted to give you a try, especially since I am planning to buy boots in the very near future, and had anticipated buying from you. But wow, just wow. What a horrible experience. I ended up walking out, not renting and will not be buying boots or anything else from you store. The 3 people working rentals were absolutely no help. Just threw me a couple pairs of boots and walked away. I had questions about the fit and they had no interest in helping me, and more than once got a rude response. I saw them treating another couple just the same.. and they were dealing with lost luggage. I was appalled at how an employee who I believe to be the manager spoke that that couple. I would get if they were buy but we were the only ones there. It's by far the worst service I've ever received. read more

We had such friendly service from Jake renting our mountain bikes and shuttling up and back from the Harriman Trail. He couldn't have been more patient and supportive. We had a great time because of his input, even though it was a new type of adventure for us. He is there all winter too for those renting and buying during the snow season. A great selection of local tested flies, great guides (Morgan and Paddy), accurate and good reports as well as service in the store (Morgan again and Gary).
