This local small mountain-lake town bakery is what Hallmark movies are inspired by. It's hard not to fall in love with this tiny bakery that usually has a line out-the-door for Stacey's baked goods and coffee! There's plenty of outdoor seating and some space inside to enjoy your coffee and pastries. I visited this Stacey's Cakes when staying in a cabin in Donnelly, the next town over about 20-25 minutes away. It was a friend's birthday and we snuck out of the cabin to grab a birthday cake and luckily for us- they had premade cakes in the back that serves 8-12 people! We got the berries and cream cake and even picked up the perfect cake topper! The cake came frozen, so we left it out at room temperature for 4-6 hours. The cake was a hit, everyone loved it! How do you review a spot with an excellent product and poor service? It can be a challenge. At Stacey Cakes in McCall you can expect quality baked goods in a small town setting and a cute, aesthetic environment. On the other hand, a notably difficult customer experience along with limited hours made our excitement about this spot deflate. Upon deliberating, discussing at length, and coming to a decision on a cake, the owner, who had been right there observing us announced from the open kitchen in a curt manner that the available cake (per their own sign) could not be sold to us. Confusion ensued as the sales person apologized & we looked for other options on the "still available" cake board. Then a few minutes later, as we had started the process of deliberating again, the owner called out from the open kitchen to her sales person (not acknowledging us, making eye contact with us or explaining to us) said "sell them the cake." (I'm assuming she retabulated her orders for the day.) Understanding the challenges of running a small business and inventory management, there is no reason to snap at your customers. A kind apology or thoughtful acknowledgement would have smoothed the whole thing, but instead we had a charged experience. I was fairly surprised about the interaction until a conversation with a local friend illuminated that this experience was not a one off, but a pattern. End of story is that we did buy and did enjoy the cake, but the odd, and tense interaction didn't meet our expectations for customer service. read more

What a terrific place! Located in downtown McCall, this wonderful bakery seemingly wraps its arms around you when you enter, as the incredible scent inside is so darn good. Walking distance from the McCall hub of Payette Lake and the Shore Lodge, this is such a must-visit stop. Open until 4PM, Stacey Cakes has its own parking as part of a strip mall, and will satisfy your sweet tooth cravings! Since I was just arriving from Boise, I needed to graze a bit, and walked away with three items which I loved. The chocolate chip cookies were awesome, chewy and huge, and I liked them so much that I ate the second one slowly, almost rationing it to savor it. A bag of ginger snaps were memorable, so delicious. But the highlight for me was the raspberry chocolate shortbread, one of the best pastries I have ever enjoyed. A truly great bakery that is still on my mind, and I can't wait to visit again. read more

Stopped in for treats while in McCall yesterday - actually, we drove up just to see if they had cinnamon rolls - and we were not disappointed! $61 later we had coffee, cinnamon rolls, cherry tarts, berry crumble cake, cookies and a full size apple pie! Everything was amazing. We can't wait to return! Sadly, it was POURING out so we mad dashed back to the truck and I got no photos. Notes: The place is tiny so if it's full, plan to take it to go. We were a family of 9 and they allowed us all in at once but we ordered and dashed since the few tables were taken. Cash and card accepted. They only offer regular coffee, not fancy coffee so get your latte elsewhere. Outside seating, but if there's weather you won't want to sit at any of it. Parking is in lot in front or walkable from any street parking. No bathrooms that I saw. read more

Was really really disappointed in the cake we purchased. We ordered the berries and cream cake for my husband's big birthday and we followed their instructions to let it sit out 4-5 hours before eating since the frosting is made with real butter. Very very little berries inside and the frosting tasted like it was made of nothing but butter. Would be cautious with ordering cakes with butter cream frosting for this reason. None of us finished our slices and threw the cake in the trash. read more

We ordered a cake for my mother-in-law's birthday. I had gotten the date wrong and called to change it and Stacy was so kind and made the change even though they're so busy. The cake was so delicious. The buttercream was so fluffy and had the perfect hint of sweet and salty. The cake was not too sweet. I highly recommend Stacys. This is the primo bakery in McCall. They have nothing but the best homemade pastries, cookies, desserts, and coffees. I know they do catering (and their cakes are excellent), but I usually stop in for a smaller treat (or several) to go. I actually have to avoid going in there sometimes because it's just so good. Food: THE GINGER SNAPS... try the ginger snaps! They're spicy and soft and chewy. They leave an interesting aftertaste and you won't want to stop once you've tried one. I always pick up a package when I'm in town. I've also had their berry tarts and cookies. Drinks: The hot chocolate is rich and creamy. They don't hold back on the whipped cream. Yum! I aspire to be like Stacey. Seriously, as a baker I hold her and this wonderful bakery in high regard. It is truly a gem. Some people wait in line at Ice Cream Alley, which is a great treat....but I wander down the road for a pastry confection that is pure and simple and divine. This shop not only is one of my top 5 favorite bakeries of all time, but it is super wonderful to be in. It's cute, cozy, and charming. You can see the kitchen from the front of the store. It smells heavenly and is worth every last cent. If you get to this wonderful little town, make sure to stop by, you will not be disappointed. We love to get a box of goodies to go as well, so we can enjoy these delicious treats for a day or two more. Stacey is the wife of the head chef at Rupert's, a lovely restaurant in town. The great bakery items (including the amazing ginger snaps!) are overshadowed by the poor customer service. Today, two young ladies were at the counter, neither offered a bag and left our items (2 bags of gingersnaps and three bakery items, plus two drinks) strewn on the counter for us to awkwardly collect and try to carry out the door. No take-out forks were available or offered. The coffee was too hot to serve without a cup sleeve (but those also were not available and when my partner tried to ask about that, and a bag, one gal just blurted out "have a nice rest of your day!" and scurried away). By the time we struggled to our vehicle and tried the coffee, it's clear the reason it was so hot is because it had been sitting on the heating element all day and tasted so burnt we threw it out. Wish we could get our tip back. We won't be coming back after this experience. read more

Definitely hard to choose from the incredible selection of freshly baked goods. There was good energy going on as 3 or 4 gals worked happily in the kitchen though the cashier was a bit reserved. After I paid for my order, the person after me, obviously a local, ordered the lemon Danish and I was overcome with FOMO for a moment. Dang. The individual salted caramel cheesecake was unreal. We also loved the mini ginger cookies which were perfectly chewy and very gingery. The huckleberry coffee cake slice is tainting me from the fridge as I write this and I hope it will survive the night to be enjoyed on our plane ride home with a cup of black coffee tomorrow. We cannot say enough good things about this place! Whenever we visit McCall, we end up sneaking in here for some delicious treats. We have been here at least 50 plus times. Stacey makes some of the best cheesecake ever. From salted caramel to huckleberry to others. I also love the quiche. A great way to start wonderful day in the area. With her tarts, ginger snaps, brownies, cookies, and coffeecakes, she really makes decisions difficult. To top everything off, Stacey went above and beyond working with my wife on our wedding cake and cupcakes. Everyone loved the taste and care she took decorating them. I'm a little disappointed with my visit here. I've been before, but only ever purchased the gingersnaps that everyone loves (and that I too love). But we bought a twix shortbread cookie an a mini caramel cheesecake that just did not live up to our expectations. The cookie was dry, with too much shortbread to caramel and chocolate ratio. The cheesecake was overly sweet. I have almost NEVER seen my husband not finish a dessert, but he just couldn't finish these. The prices are also pretty dang steep, with our small cookie, mini cheesecake, and bag of gingersnaps ringing up at over $22. I feel that if I'm going to pay those prices, the product had better be outstanding. And it wasn't. They may want to consider re-naming the establishment Stacey Gingersnaps, as it seem cakes are not their forte. Two stars for the gingersnaps alone. read more
