Breakfast burrito (with sweet potato!)
David S.

My breakfast burrito had sweet potato in it! Neat! This place is a gem. Good food. Decent prices. Fun ambiance. Friendly and welcoming. Also, location: Stanley is beautiful. Recommended.

It's been years since we've been here. It's still as good as we remember. We both got the Crag Breakfast sandwich. A meat, cheese, aïoli sauce , on a soft ciabatta bread. One bacon and one veggie sausage. I know what you're thinking but the sausage was delicious. Both outstanding. These may be the best breakfast sandwiches we ever had. The coffee selection was good too. All the staff were very friendly. Got a scone and cinnamon bun to go. Highly recommend this place.

Potato Mountain - my favorite!

Stanley Baking is always on my mind once I roll into Stanley! The line looks intimidating but the wait is so worth it! All of the staff are kind and helpful. The sourdough cinnamon rolls are one of the best ones I've had! So light and fluffy, with the right amount of sweetness. Both of the entrees are great but the potato mountain is my favorite! Having the egg and beef over the potatoes is a game changer. It's a sweet little homey restaurant with a cabin vibe. If you're in town, you must give them a try!

Open for the season. Just a perfect place to hang and enjoy a meal. Great food served with a smile.

Phenomenal breakfast burrito, wow. Crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside. Wish they allowed you to do normal sausage instead of either veggie sausage or bacon, but still amazing. Tomatillo salsa was incredible

The busy breakfast place did not disappoint! You order at the counter and hope to find a table. There is also outdoor seating if you want to enjoy the great views. The food was hot and fresh. The biscuits were really good, but the gravy was okay. The pastries were very good, especially warmed up. Overall, this place felt like a higher end diner with a great menu.

There is not much in this town, and this place seems to be the most popular dining destination. The meal took a while, and I think the kitchen was slammed because our turkey Reuben sandwich came out a little sloppy. It was fine tasting, but honestly, I have had much better turkey Reubens. It really just felt like a basic turkey sandwich. The strawberry rhubarb shortbread cookie, however, was delicious and definitely saved the day. Also, the root beer they serve in cans was a delightful surprise.

Such a fun time was had eating breakfast at Stanley Baking. My brother and his girlfriend were visiting from Japan and they thoroughly enjoyed the American breakfast! The eggs Benedict was very rich and yummy. The atmosphere of the cafe was very cute. I liked how it looked like a cute cabin with different art on sale. The staff was very very kind and great as well.

Window to order baked goods and coffee only. Avoid the line!

I had a delicious Reuben sandwich which was made with homemade sauerkraut with purple cabbage. What a treat! The fresh rye bread was perfect and the sandwich was just big enough not to be overfilling. I'm used to toasted bread for Reubens, but I didn't miss that at all. I suppose you could ask for that. Hubby had a sourdough blueberry muffin which was moist, not too sweet and had plenty of berries. We sat outside on the patio which offered plenty of shade and seating options. There was a line to order food and it did go a bit slow, but the man taking my order was friendly and thorough, and the food was delivered quite quickly to my surprise. The inside offered tables and several bar seats. This place is a gem and I am looking forward to returning to try the breakfast items.

AMAZING! The Crag breakfast sandwich was one of the best sandwiches we have ever had!!!! The coffee is great as well! The cinnamon roll is iconic and the best blueberry scone i have ever had!

French toast special or as my daughter calls it, toasted toast.

Great breakfast. Watching the guy ride his unicycle away holding his box of pastries was entertaining.

The fresh black berry scone was amazing. Light and delicious. Latte was hot and yummy. Took a little bit to order our food and for it to arrive but worth the wait. The oatmeal pancakes are huge. Ambiance was comfy and cute.

Caramel Macchiato & Idaho Kombucha

Made a coffee stop on our way out of town and ended up staying for a snack! First, this is the place to be, when we arrived there was a line out the door... but then I noticed there was an express lane. Giving people an option of dining in and ordering from a food menu or ordering a beverage / bakery item, skipping the line. Genius! I ordered a Caramel Macchiato with Almond Milk, so delicious and creamy. The barista perfected the sweetness level too (I like mine semi sweet). My partner ordered the Idaho Kombucha, making me question if I wanted to double fist with my coffee and his choice. They have an extensive bakery menu, although they do run out quick, due to demand. We had to get a cinnamon roll of course, it was *chefs kiss.* It was so good, I dug in before I remembered to take a photo! Large enough to share between two, unless you're up for the challenge. The atmosphere was lively and cozy, with cabin vibes. Highly recommend!

Great sandwiches and cookies! Seating could be a bit more comfy. Two lines to order rather than one would help alleviate long wait.

So we popped in with my wife after taking a hike, looking for some non-foo foo grub. Saw the bear…read morehobby horse and knew this was my kind of place. Wish we had brought our kiddo to ride the bear!!! Definitely had the ambiance of a locals place, which elevated it in our book. We ordered the elk chili, the nachos with spicy beef and a couple salads. The chili comes out in a big bowl, and the nachos were piled high. Well, let me tell you. I SAVAGED those nachos. Meat and creamy cheese everywhere, slop all over my fingers. It was like feeding branches to a wood chipper. I mean, I did DAMAGE, for God and Country. The elk chili was fantastic. Great taste and large portion size. We managed to finish it off between two of us. By the time it was over, the table was pure CARNAGE. Chili bowl looked like it survived a zombie onslaught and there was meat, cheese and unidentifiable goodness everywhere near the nachos plate. I cleaned it up the best I could and AWESOME waitress BOBBIE C came and finished clearing the murder scene. Like that wasn't enough, we split a chocolate toffee mousse dessert. Creamy chocolate mousse goodness. Pure heaven. I know, after the chili AND nachos, there is going to be a plumbing WAR CRIME soon, but I would go back to Mountain Village Restaurant in a heartbeat. Can't recommend this place enough! Big thumbs up!!!

Upon entry, I asked the older gentlemen host about a patio or if it was dog friendly. He said no,…read morewhich I was fine and I said I still like a table for 6, my wife would be outside with the dog. He begrudgingly sat us and tossed our silverware on the table. That wasn't cool, he seemed super grumpy. I notice things and people notice things in general. If you don't want to be friendly, then maybe a host isn't the job for you. The eating area was nice. It had enough space where you didn't feel like you are on top of each other. The server we had was actually super nice, I did not catch her name but was great. Attentive and friendly to us all. The food we ordered was the tri tip, peach salad with shrimp, mini cheeseburgers, soup, and chicken wings. The tri tip was smokey and tender but you barely got any. The taters I ordered were over fried in old oil, it didn't taste right. The peachy salad with the $7 add on for shrimp was a rip off, there were 5 total shrimp! $25 for this salad. Maybe 1/2 a peach. Wife described the shrimp as overcooked and rubbery. Shrimp should be slightly orange just past translucent and juicy. See photo. The mini cheeseburgers were mini but the kids liked them. Daughter liked the potato soup, and an order of chicken fingers had all fries the size of about a 1/2 in. It was weird, not sure if it was intentional as it was a kids meal. The other kids meal had normal sized fries. Overall it was disappointing. Also, I don't like restaurants who calculate the tip for the after tax amount...tip should be on the cost of the actual food, not also the tax. Come on people. Not worth it, I wouldn't stop here again.

However, my favorite part was the bakery. We tried the cranberry-lime poppyseed bread. I enjoyed it because it was not too sweet and the cranberries baked into it were delicious. My daughter had the lemon meringue tart and said it was good but a little dry. She enjoyed her big vanilla sprinkled macaron though. My absolute favorite was the seasonal offering of a strawberry-rhubarb tart. I cannot say how much I loved this pastry. It was perfect from the filling to the crust. The filling didn't taste like it had any added sugar and the strawberries served as the sweet to the tart of the rhubarb. The crust was light and you could see the layers that were just firm enough but melded perfectly with the pie filling. There was a brown sugar oatmeal and butter crumble on top that added all the sweet you need. I wish I could eat this every day and will come to visit every time I am back this way just for the chance to savor this perfect pastry again. Thank you!
