Wonderful meal on the outside patio which was a treat before summer heat sets in. Starters were very good: bread and butter (WOW!), tuna, gem salad (WOW!) Tagliatelle with mint and bread crumbs....the crunch was welcome but the mint was not for me. Service was perfect. Drinks were fine. We will be back : )
This restaurant has been at the top of my list of places to try for quite awhile. It is consistently listed as one of the best restaurants in the area but they don't take reservations! Our group of 4 showed up on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 and got seated immediately. We ordered their bread and butter, roasted bone marrow, scallops, ribeye steak, pork belly, fried oysters, and desserts. Everything was amazing!! Service was outstanding!
Celebrated our anniversary with a first time visit to Stanbury. Our server was amazing Love the vibe here. We started off with cocktails, Out in the Sticks and Dance Alone. Both were good, and served quickly. For apps, we had the bread and little gem salad, and enjoyed both. The butter was the star! For dinner, I had tagliatelle (not a fan of this version) and husband had the steak - Best Ribeye in Raleigh, hands down! We ended with the Chocolate Torte, which I was pleasantly surprised with since I'm not an Escazu chocolate fan. Stanbury changed my mind about their chocolate with this beautifully prepared dessert.
Really interesting process to get a table, you cannot call ahead and make reservations. You walk up at 4:30 and in theory can make reservations for a later time that night... except when we asked for 6:30, they told us they really only had two seatings, 5 and 7:30ish. We ended up just staying, and they bring parties in one at a time starting exactly at five. I guess it's part of the shtick, but that's what lost a star for me. Getting someplace at 4:30 only to wait 45 minutes wasn't ideal. That said, the service was wonderful, and the decor is great, though, it's so dimly lit inside, you don't get the full benefit. We loved the men u and the food was overall outstanding. I was a little disappointed in the pig's head, but, to be fair, my husband thought it was great. The fried oysters were perfectly cooked. The grilled sweet breads were to die for and I've never had them anything but fried before. SO good.
I've heard so many good things about Stanbury, but never ventured over bc they don't take reservations & I love a reservation. We got there at 5 on a Friday and only waited 15 minutes, with a menu in hand. Every dish was amazing, honestly. The standouts for me were the smoked fish nduja and striped bass. The smoked fish nduja flavor was so addictive, my whole dinner could have been just that and I would have left happy. The striped bass had one of these nicest fried fish skins I've had in a while, and it stayed surprisingly crisp with the salsa on top. Another fun dish was the bulgogi zucchini - I knew I had to order this unique concoction when I saw it on the menu, and the flavors did not disappoint. The fried oysters dish had perfectly crisp oysters and the sauce gave sriracha mayo vibes, which I love. I love the vibes here, and the seasonal menu was spectacular. We sat outside on the porch which was nice, save for a few pesky flies. We will definitely be back for more when our built-in babysitters are back in town. 8.5/10 s *Smoked Fish Nduja: shaved zucchini, idiazabal, basil, pistachio *Octopus Tostada: salsa macha, cucumber, onion, avocado, cilantro, peanut *Bulgogi Zucchini: squash banchan, sesame, gochugaru, scallion *Fried Oysters: cucumber, daikon, carrot, spicy mayo, cilantro *NC Striped Bass: succotash, berbere butter, piquillo, pickled onion, corn bread *Bread &
I kept hearing about Stanbury and how it's one of the best restaurants in Raleigh. They don't take reservations, so we had a 15 minute wait in a Tuesday night at 7:15 PM. We started out with the smoked fish spread. I saw it had harissa in it but it wasn't spicy at all. It had a wonderful smokey, almost venison flavor. For the main course, the Char Siu NC pork chop hit the spot. A beautiful smokey sweet flavor that was ten times better than the local bbq place we visited earlier in the week. There is plenty of food on this plate to split among two people. We finished the night with Blueberry buckle which is strusel cake, lemon sabayon, thyme, blueberry coulis. Be prepared for a lot of complex citrus flavors that are both tart and sweet. One thing to note, the atmosphere is very dark, and made reading the menu or taking photos somewhat complicated. Overall, we couldn't have had a better experience.
Everything every time. Just absolutely amazing. The food, the service, the ambiance. Staff always impressed me with their kindness. Just when I think the place can't be better, Drew blows us away with his new creations. I will be back again and again!
We got bread, smoked fish, drinks, pasta, and a salad. Loved it! - Vibe: Moody, chic, lousiana bayou (extra points for uniqueness!) - Service: attentive af, water never empty, food timed in cascade etc - Food and price: curated, worth it
Falls Short on Living up to the Hype and Recent Guide Recommendations -- Restaurant Review: Stanbury - Raleigh,NC -- After reading a lot of recently good reviews about this restaurant and its mention in the Michelin guide, I decided it was probably worth the time to see what all the hype was about. When evaluating a restaurant, it is important to consider three main elements: Food, Service, and Ambiance. -- Nestled in a Northern Raleigh residential area, the restaurant's initial curb appeal makes you wonder what is truly hiding beneath the walls. With a rustic outdoor ambience and decorated with random vintage décor, you must wait in a line of potential patrons at 4:30pm to secure a table for the evening, no matter the weather. Inside the restaurant, you are greeted with a cabin-like country feel, with a continued theme of random décor, old garage-sale buys, and walls of chatka. -- The service is definitely elevated, with the staff complementing the environment with a 'welcome to our cabin' feel-like ambience, like pulling up a chair to an open campfire with a group of friends. The service staff made significant efforts to make you feel welcome and went above and beyond to ensure the dining experience left you feeling warm and inviting. -- Unfortunately, the food fell short of what one would expect from an elevated restaurant experience. -- We started with the beef tartare and bluefin tuna crudo, per the waitress's recommendation, along with an order of the bread & butter. The beef tartare definitely delivered a stellar combination of flavors, but fell significantly short in overall presentation. The dish's plating lacked creativity, appearing sloppy. It definitely was not inviting and certainly didn't appear to be a very elevated dish from first glance. The beef itself was well-seasoned, and the sharpness of the scallops complemented the overall dish and flavors, the richness of the quail eggs, the crunch and savory depth of the escargot, and the tanginess of the aioli. The tuna crudo did a better job of living up to the overall expectations of a strong dish, with a good appearance and a strong flavor combination with sunchose, chives, lemon, shallot, and olive oil. The bread was baffling to me. Essentially, you were ordering a couple of pieces of toast. -- We decided to go with the Choucrotte Garnis and homemade Tagliatelle pasta for our main entrees. The garnis was a major disappointment from start to finish, falling significantly short of what you expect from a dish deeply rooted in German and Bavarian tradition. From the poor plating to the less-than-harmonious combination of flavors, this dish really didn't have any degree of culinary elevation that would lead you to wanting more. In fact, I have absolutely experienced a much better version of this dish at a small corner pub in Europe. The bratwurst was bland and lacked flavor; the pork was flavor OK, but certainly didn't leave a memorable experience for me wanting more; and the mustard that complimented the dish completely took over, with an aggressively hot, sharpness that destroyed every bite. -- The Tagliatelle did absolutely stand out with the perfectly cooked, tender pasta, and stellar combination of flavors with porcini and chestnut mushrooms bringing a richness to the dish, garlic bringing a complementary aroma without overpowering the dish, pecorino adding a sharp edge, and walnuts introducing a nuttiness, finalizing a well-balanced and flavorful dish. -- We finished with sticky toffee pudding, date cake, eggnog ice cream, rum caramel, and Maldon. It was a good way to end the night and certainly provided the warmth and finale needed to top off a subpar food delivery. -- I always find it baffling when a restaurant curates amazing images of its dishes but fails to replicate them for actual guests. I wouldn't go so far as to say, " Don't go to this restaurant", but I would recommend tempering your expectations. It doesn't rise to the level of a phenomenal culinary experience. I also don't believe it was worth standing out in the cold weather at 4:30 to get a table for the evening. It's a lot of effort for a OK food experience.
This dinner was phenomenal and the menu is innovative! Stanbury-- I stan. The pork chop, butter and piping hot bread, beef tongue, and fried oysters were all highly recommended and well received. The flavors and plating were absolutely spot on. The service was fast and friendly. The hubs and I enjoyed the ambiance and the cocktails. The restaurant was packed but didn't feel stuffy. All in all, we'd come back in a heartbeat. Cheers!
This place is a culinary experience! This is the type of restaurant the depict in "The Bear" with an ever changing menu and dishes that only a true creative can concoct. This is a place where I say trust a wait staff recommendation and go out on a limb trying new dishes. Whether it's shared tapas style or splitting an entree the wait staff does an incredible job of spacing out your food so you have the perfect amount of time to sit and enjoy the company and ambiance of this tucked away gem! I wouldn't recommend this place to you if you're looking for a "quick bite". Go here to celebrate, catch up with friends or just enjoy an incredible meal GET THERE EARLY. for real, you have to get there before 5:20 on a weekend to get a spot by 8:30. With no reservations though must get there early and it'll be worth it. If there's a wait, just walk down to the standard or station and wait cause it's worth it
If you are going on a Saturday, be sure to get your name on the seating list right at 4:30! The timing worked out for us tonight and we absolutely devoured this meal. My favorites were the beef tartare, grilled romaine, and pickle soup (very unique and not too pickley, despite the name). Our server checked in at all the right times and ambiance was perfect. I appreciate the chocolate shop next door and plenty of heated spaces to wait until opening. We will definitely be back!!
The number one thing to know about Stanbury is they do not take reservation. And it's super popular. So timing is everything if you don't want to wait for a table. If you don't mind an early dinner, show up fifteen minutes before they open, get your name on the list and they will seat accordingly as soon as they open. Secondly, do know it won't be an inexpensive evening. You are paying for quality and perfection in execution. Four of us had a recent enjoyable Saturday dinner. The menu changes frequently. You won't find their menu on their website, but they will sometimes post one on Facebook. Off the current menu we shared off the small bites: Fried Oysters, Scallop Yakitori and Grilled NY Bigeye Tuna. All four of us agreed that the Tuna was the best. The Scallop, while good, was really expensive for what was probably two scallops cut up. So half a scallop per person. For the mains, we shared two of the pork chop dishes and one Tagliatelle. Having had pork here before, we knew they do especially well with it and they did again. The pasta was very tasty as well. For dessert we tried all three: a blueberry cheesecake mousse, peach cake and dark chocolate bread pudding. The blueberry one was the surprise favorite. Cake was a light blah, while bread pudding was the least fave. Service good. Two of us got a little water dropped on us when refilling water glasses, but hey they kept them filled to go along with the alcohol we consumed. As for ambiance, it's on the dark side, with medium to high noise level.
Reviews are largely positive. Many highlight the creative, rotating menu, attentive and friendly staff, and a unique and cozy atmosphere.

Stunning food. They change their menu periodically to keep ingredients fresh and seasonal. They created an amazing vegetarian dish for my wife that was not even on the menu. I had the pork chop which was the best that i have ever had. It is a bit on the pricey side but its worth it. We will be back pretty soon. read more
I am so full right now I'm about ready to burst, but I don't regret it one bit! I had the tagliatelle entree with a cocktail and cleared my plate (I might have even licked it if it wasn't such a nice place). The chocolate cake was good, but the peanut butter ice cream and the brûlée banana that came with it amazing! The staff was awesome too! Very prompt and friendly. This place goes on my list of Raleigh favorites! read more

My husband took me here for our one year wedding anniversary. It's the fanciest dinner I've ever had personally in my experience. It doesn't look like much from the outside at all and it's very hard to park. However, the food, WOW it was amazing I still think about it. I plan to take my husband for Valentine's weekend! The bone marrow was a blessing! The steak was amazing the potatoes that came with it were hands down the best potatoes I've ever had whoever made them I know their parents are proud. The oysters were also so good! And the tartar was my first and it was such a lovely experience! The only thing I didn't love was the mushroom bisque, I was so excited for it and it was delicious however the cream swirl on it just wasn't my favorite but my husband loved it. Everyone should try this place! read more

My favorite restaurant in Raleigh!!! Excellent service and the best small plates I've had in a while. You must order the bone marrow, lamb tartar, scallops crudo, oysters and please do yourself a favor a leave some room for dessert. They are all amazing!! Sometimes I feel like having a liquid desert, can't go wrong with their old fashions. read more
Dark, lively and sensuous is how I'd describe this small neighborhood restaurant! Located in the ex-Market Restaurant, the space has been spruced up with side patio, roll-up garage door and organic accents all-around. With a small seasonal menu of meats, seafoods and veggies in interesting combos, the Stanbury brings a sense of upscale origins to this casual location. Start off at the bar with the short menu of cocktails and you'll get the evening off right. They definitely take some pride here so don't miss out. I got seated in the back corner in the red, high-back plush corner and it makes for a good people-watching spot. Beware that the space is noisy and busy so don't expect too relaxed a dinner. I did a pork belly app along with some swordfish. The pork belly was well prepared but I thought my main was a bit sloppy and complicated. Not to say that they didn't put the right effort in, just didn't work out that well. The Stanbury is not cheap, expect to spend $50+ a person with one drink but it does its job well if not perfectly. I'm sure this restaurant will evolve over time but the Stanbury is already the hot destination in this quiet corner of Raleigh... read more
What is there to say bout this place that hasn't already been said---an all around amazing placed. Ambiance- very cozy. This may sound silly but the restaurant was actually WARM and i was comfortable taking off my jacket. Low lit, quiet music, very chill. Service- excellent. They have amazing retention and hostess, wait staff, bartenders and cooks all in sync. Food- this was my first time here but everything i had was amazing and i've been told by regulars they've never had anything bad. The menu changes regularly but some of my favorites: scallop crudo - amazing flavor and texture cioppino- amazing flavor with fresh seafood and good portion brussel sprouts - hard to ever go wrong but they added an extra flavor tagliatelle- apparently a staple on the menu with flavor changes monthly Cost- not cheap. two of us with one entree and probably 6 small plates with 5 glasses of wine was $200 including tip BUT everything was delicious and we were stuffed. Will 100% be back. Just make sure to make a reservations weeks ahead of time! read more
My new favorite restaurant in Raleigh! This place not big nor do they have fancy chairs but boy do they cook like a fine dinning place... There is always a long wait so make reservations. . . Their menus changes all the time, which makes me sad because I have come to fall in love with their beef tartar and their lamb chops. Their "small plates" are really not all that small. The 2pieces lamb I had was perfectly cooked to my taste (making me drool thinking about it)! The tartar turns heads, it was sooo good. I made my friend tried it for the first time and she fell in love... read more

Stanbury was excellent! I've heard good things and I don't know why I assumed it was an upscale fancy place but it's not really. It's just nice enough to be a good weekend meal with friends but just casual enough to feel like you can go during the week and sit at the bar and feel comfy. We got there and it was packed on a Friday night but the hostess was so sweet and said she thought a couple was going to finish their drinks at the bar soon - did we want her to save the seats for us when they paid and left? Yes! She told us a waitress would take our drink order in the meantime. Perfect. We ordered...and the table was ready for us shortly after. When we sat the cocktails were delivered! We ordered the pickled salmon starter with beets (I don't love pickled salmon, I have realized but I imagine if you do, this was a great dish - I do love beets and they were spot on!), and the fried oyster dish (GET IT!) and shared a main dish of fresh tagliatelle, which was delicious. It was fun to sit at the end of the bar closest to the kitchen too, and watch the cooks make things. They know what they're doing. Ambiance, service, price, flavors: all A+. Can't wait to go back! Great for a date or evening out with friends, but probably best for parties of 1-4. read more

Hands down, the BEST restaurant in Raleigh. My wife, our entire table and I had a PINNACLE Experience. The service was outstanding. We had an Irish lady that wasn't hesitate to take pics of our group. She was timely. Kind and considerate. The drinks were so unique. The food.... phenomenal. Haven't had food this good in a long while. Every dish was gourmet. Flavorful and memorable. We'll definitely be spending more time there in the future. Definitely, the Stanbury is all the Rave!!!! My only suggestion for a better experience is more outdoor heaters for this cold season. See you soon!!!!!!!! read more
Still one of my favorite go-tos. Even after I bounced and then came back for a day or two. Great service. Great ambiance. Tasty food. I always recommended this spot to folks and I will continue to do so. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the shrimp. (In all fairness, that wouldn't have been one of my picks anyhow, but my dining companion chose that dish.) But everything else we had the other night was fantastic. I love small plates. Means you get to try a little bit of everything good. read more
I incredibly love this place! Another must go to in Raleigh. It's was a great choice to sit at the bar since it was a bit loud but I had a nice time! We started with Cheese platter with all three cheeses and I'm so glad we did. One of the best boards I've had. The almonds and fig compote were so good! I was a little bummed by the bread. It was overly toasted and tough. It didn't help that I was at a winery the day priory which served fresh baked banquettes for the cheeses. The pigs head was very similar to the Filipino sisig complete with raw egg on top. The texture was very familiar and so good with the beans. My only comment is that the mustard creme was a little overpowering. It was still super yummy. The lamb tartar was top notch! So fresh and not gamey at all. My favorite was my drink the Penicillin. I was driving so I couldn't have another one so I may just come back for more! read more

I would have gave this a 4-5 star rating based on some of the dishes I had which were amazing. The standouts to me were the tartare and the sea bass. I am giving this a 1 star because I started with the raw oysters which was a huge mistake. I became violently ill and ended up throwing up everything later than night. It's almost been a week later and I am still having gastrointestinal issues. I want to say it was the oysters but I'm not 100% sure. I became a bit nauseated after 1 oyster but finished the dinner anyway. read more

We flew in from CA and wanted a place with great menu and drink options. Since we just got off a flight we didn't want anything we had to be dressed up for and we did not want to make reservations. This was the place! A cute and cozy restaurant nestled in an adorable neighborhood. We ordered 3 small plates and 1 large plate, my husband and I shared them all. We were blown away with the taste, presentation, and most of all the amazing service! If your in the area this place is a must! read more

This was a great experience. The small plates, the converted building, great wait staff and wonderful friends. I celebrated my birthday with all Raleigh locations this year. The Stanbury was highly recommended. Carrie our wait staff was knowledgeable, friendly, professional, and all around awesome. The entire table loved her. The Crispy Pig Head was outstanding, the Aguochille(sp), Fried Tomatoes, Fried Bocquerones, and Mexican Corn were outstanding!! Last but not least: the Roasted Marrow was delicious!!! The drinks were tasty too. Thanks for a fabulous outing. I will be back! read more

Went here for the first time last night for my partner's birthday. The whole experience was fantastic, from the moment we were greeted by the host, until we finished our delicious dessert. The ambiance was wonderful, the food tasted great, and the service was spectacular. This really put the cherry on top of an already great birthday. Recommendations? I ordered the rib eye and it was worth every penny. You also HAVE to get the bread and butter. Sounds crazy, but you won't regret it. Also, the fried green tomato small plate was awesome. As was mentioned by others, the Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding was great, but my entire table agreed that the chocolate s'mores dessert was the best! Will definitely be returning read more

Wow! What an experience! First time trying a few foods happened here. Bone Marrow was probably the most unique. Tasted good with sides. Octopus ceviche was good but very different from a traditional ceviche. May not order that again. Clams were buttery. Salmon was so fabulous. We had a few more dishes. Clearly well thought out dishes and created with intention. Great place and want to go back to try more. Make reservations far in advance. Side bar: some of the best chocolate is sold next door. Go there after for a second desert. read more

It's my second time here in like a week lol. This time everything was amazing but I'm giving 4 starts because I feel the wine as well as the liquor (for example digestives) selection are a bit expensive for what it is. Besides that, experience was 5 starts. Don't get confused, try the Ribeye . It's in my top 3 I'ver had in my life and I've travelled a lot. I went with my wife so I always suggest to share the ribeye (it cost 36 bucks but it's big and don't need to order 2. We already ate half in the photo attached) and 1 or 2 entrees. I recommend again the beef tartar and another one more fresh like the shrimps or similar. Btw, leave some space for the bread pudding OMG. Thank you again guys! read more

Only go here if you're ready to get your mind blown. Every bite was out of this world. We started with bread & butter and Brussels sprouts- these were my favorite of the whole meal. Everything was so fresh. We also got the pig head appetizer which was great. I'm an adventurous eater and enjoyed the flavor but the soft texture was a little edgy for me. We split two rib eye steaks with fingerling potatoes and arugula salad between the 5 of us and holy cow it was delicious. Perfectly seasoned, crusted, and had a hollandaise sauce of sorts to top. The salad also is perfectly dressed, not too much or little dressing and the potatoes were delicately fried and soft in the middle. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in town. One of our friends who was a new patron even went back this week with family! read more

Phenomenal restaurant, with a quirky, eclectic atmosphere, and excellent service. The bar was great, and made one of the better Manhattans I've had in Raleigh. The pork chop was superb, being both tender and incredibly flavorful, something hard to achieve in my opinion. The restaurant is tucked back in the Oakwood, Mordecai area, with a quaint neighborhood feel, but still just a short drive from downtown, Glenwood, or Five Points for drinks after dinner. read more
