It was our first time here and it was a Friday night, the place was busy but thankfully we had placed our name on the list ahead of time. When we got there we waited maybe 10 minutes. We ordered a seasonal drink and our teen ordered a mocktail. They bring bread to the table and it was nice and warm. Started with a cup of chili and the chimichuri Shrimp for apps. Our meals consisted of the 10oz sirloin with broccoli, the Firehouse steak with baked potatoe and their house salad with chicken. Everything was delicious, the steaks were flavorful and cooked exactly how we liked it. The appetizers we're amazing as well. The shrimp with the side of the corn salsa was amazing. Went here for Isabella's date night birthday. I ordered the GRILLED SALMON & SHRIMP with Aji Amarillo sauce / seasonal ancient grains / seasonal vegetables. The salmon was decent, but I didn't eat any of the seasonal ancient grains, as they were mushy, and not good. The two (2) shrimp were excellent. The WOOD GRILLED CHICKEN, Portabella mushrooms / blistered tomatoes / spinach / chimichurri / Parmesan mashed potatoes had to be sent back. The chicken was visually dry and overcooked. The mashed potatoes looked days old when they were served. The only thing that was good was the BABY BACK RIBS, Slow-roasted and grilled / java BBQ sauce / fresh fruit / side. But when I asked for to swap out the poor food for more ribs they stated that they were out. How can you be out before 5 pm, I mean, it wasn't even the dinner rush. My opinion has not changed that this restaurant is consistently excellent. Food is fantastic. Service is always good. It's a quality experience. Not cheap but not ridiculous for what you get. They really have perfected everything from the appetizers to the mains and desserts. Even the sides are so good that three out of our party of seven ordered their three-sides for an entree meal today. Favorites were the Southwestern au gratin taters, the corn, the mushrooms, and the carrots. If you like a great grilled flavor, this is your place. Burgers, steaks, fish, all terrific. But one of my favorites recently has been their roasted chicken. Sounds like it should be boring, but believe me it's not. Others in our group enjoyed the Tomahawk pork chops, the Steak Penne and Sis was super glad they let her order the lunch sirloin even though we were given dinner menus for our 2:30 Sunday meal. They still bring freshly baked bread to start. If I were to nick 'em on something, their butter tastes more like margarine to me. Pro tip: You can order a side of their lobster queso to add to any meal. Particularly good if you get something with mashed taters and broccoli, just sayin'. Drink wise you can't go wrong either. Decent wine-by-the-glass options, and love that you can pick whether you want a 5-ounce or 8-ounce pour. Husband is a huge fan of their Dirty Bird Martini. Biggest tips are to make reservations as this place is always popular! And allow time for parking. North Hills can be a pain, but in our experience, just head straight down into the parking garage. I was appalled at the pieces that had been served. I will not order the tacos again. However, the French fries were crisp and delicious. The smoked wings, and steak and cheese egg rolls were dry. Firebirds is at a great location in North Hills and has a classic steakhouse feel. The ribs are perfectly cooked and gluten free BBQ is delicious w/o being overly sweet. The cook on the steaks is great if you prefer a rare to medium cook. Medium well is usually under or over. Well done is fully dry which seems to be an ability lost with the last generation of chefs. If you're going for a celebration and want to take pics, avoid booth seating as the lighting is horrible (dark yellow on a dangling light shade - casts a lot of shadows on the face). The lighting in the booth also makes it a less favorable place for a first date. Your plates also don't picture well under the yellow lighting (booth only). Noting that I've only dined here twice. The good thing is the food was awesome but my beer sat at the bar while the server, Tim talked with another sever drink ing his coke for approximately 10 minutes until l asked if that was my drink at the bar, it was. My wife asked for a refill and not getting it after 20 minutes, no exaggeration, went to the front desk to see the manager, the hostess can to the table to say the manager was busy, then her drink arrived without a word from the server. Went in on Saturday for brunch. It wasn't too busy. Clean and good music playing. Waitress was a lady with locs and she was very nice and attentive. I got the Sparkling Diamond and Double Black Diamond Martini drinks and both were amazing, it's really only a question of bubbles or no bubbles! For food I got the steak and egg tacos and I swapped the Sriracha sauce for bacon jam and fresh fruit for a side of bacon. It was absolutely amazing. From the drinks to the food, everything was brought out fairly quickly, with little wait. So that was definitely a plus. For our appetizers, we ordered the buffalo wings which were tasty and sauced just right. They also brought us bread which was crunchy but delicious, especially when paired with the butter provided. For our entrees, we both ordered the "Wood Grilled NY Strip" which was delicious to both of us. It's soft and juicy, providing a great taste. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Eggrolls, the Cajun Ribeye w/ Caesar salad, loaded baked potato and the 1/2 lb lobster tail. Everything was delicious except for the lobster tail. No worries though. The ambience was nice. It was a little noisy but nothing unbearable. Our server, Ryan, was professional and per our request gave us recommendations on items to choose. He also had a wonderful sense of humor. Although he was very busy, he still took the necessary time to ensure that all of his customers were doing okay. We all ordered different entrées on the menu, and we also ordered desserts. All entrées were scrumptious! We enjoyed every bit of all items ordered. We sampled each other's dishes so that we could try the different entrées. My absolute favorite entrée was the one with the Sea Bass. The Sea Bass was cooked perfectly. It practically melted in my mouth. The lemon cake was my favorite dessert Everyone enjoyed their food, and the atmosphere was wonderful for our celebration. Located in North Hills, there's not much parking right out front, but there's a lot around the corner and of course the parking decks that have easy access as well. I most frequently go for Happy Hour at the bar. You can get a few select apps for half-off as well as the day's drink special. I'm always pleased with the service, drinks, and food. If you can make it to Happy Hour (4 - 6:30 Monday - Friday at the bar or on the patio) then try that so you can try a few different things. We came to Firebirds because The BBQ Lab which we were going to is apparently closed on Monday and Tuesdays does to lack of staff. We arrived and were told there'd be a 20 minute wait. My Dad, fiancée and I decided to go somewhere else but used their restrooms. While walking there my fiancée soad "damn that food looks good" so I went on OpenTable and put in a reservation. I came out to find that the men decided we'd wait for a table and I told them that I had made a reservation already. We actually were seated right away which was the fasted 20 minutes I've ever waited. Lol. Our serever came over right away with waters and asked us for our drink orders and if we cared for bread. Our drinks and hot bread came out pretty promptly. We all decided on the perfect pear menu for lunch. My dad opted for the cheeseburger and chili while my fiancé had the chili and the fried flounder sandwich. I had the BLT salad and the barbecue chicken sandwich. Both of the guys liked their chili. My Dad in fact, said that he had wished that he had just had two bowls of that instead of a burger. My fiancé liked the chili, but he actually did not care for his sandwich that much. I liked the BLT salad, but the chicken on the sandwich was a little large in thickness and didn't fit my bun. It was actually kind of hard to eat because it was kind of tough. We decided to celebrate Mother's Day a day early to avoid the crush of crowds. And given that it's been a while where we dined at the North Hills Mall (the last time we dined was at the BBQ Labs and at the Capitol Grill) we figured it might be good to find a good place to eat close to our home. So in order to ensure we don't wait too long I made a reservation via OpenTable for 8 pm Saturday. We were thinking that the mall would be too crowded because of the special day, we arrived at the restaurant 20 minutes earlier. Amazingly they seated us promptly instead of waiting for our reserved times. This was refreshing! That alone makes this place a hundred times better than P.F. Chang (check my review in Yelp). Ivy our server met us shortly and did a wonderful job letting us know our options based off our orders and took our orders promptly. I just want to say she was a key reason why we're giving this establishment 5 stars! Hire really engaging and gracious servers and wait staff and I guarantee you that any slight mistakes will be overlooked. We started with the soup of the day - which was a Manhattan Clam Chowder. To be honest we were a bit surprised by it. It wasn't the traditional chowder as it didn't have cream in it. But it was a revelation! It was bright, tasty and filling. Thank goodness we just ordered a cup each. Otherwise it would have filled us up. For our main course, we ordered the half rack of ribs along with steamed broccoli, potatoes au gratin, a 9 oz filet mignon medallion along with sautéed vegetables. I paired my steak with a glass of High Note Malbec. For our dessert we shared a slice of Creme Brûlée Cheesecake. How do they rate? The chowder was a solid B. The rack of ribs were smoky and rich. We give it an A. The au gratin was spectacular! A+! The filet was well prepared and rested. Subtly seasoned and so juicy. Solid A. The sautéed vegetables were well seasoned. B+. The Malbec was deliciously dry. Another solid A. The cheesecake was good. Not spectacular but above average. B+. Overall we enjoyed our experience here and we would even say the food rivals Capitol Grille for 1/2 the price. Did I mention that the ambiance was nice? Despite it being a busy night, we didn't feel neglected or overwhelmed by the crowd. The noise was subdued and we could actually have a nice conversation with our normal volume, not having to raise our voices above the din. I'm not sure how they did that but it's impressive. All in all, we're pleased with our experience and we'll be more than excited to come back for more! P.S. we forgot our credit card in the receipt billfold and Ivy had to chase us to make sure we didn't leave it behind. She's truly a gem! read more
