Wonderful meal on the outside patio which was a treat before summer heat sets in. Starters were very good: bread and butter (WOW!), tuna, gem salad (WOW!) Tagliatelle with mint and bread crumbs....the crunch was welcome but the mint was not for me. Service was perfect. Drinks were fine. We will be back : )

This restaurant has been at the top of my list of places to try for quite awhile. It is consistently listed as one of the best restaurants in the area but they don't take reservations! Our group of 4 showed up on a Wednesday evening at 5:30 and got seated immediately. We ordered their bread and butter, roasted bone marrow, scallops, ribeye steak, pork belly, fried oysters, and desserts. Everything was amazing!! Service was outstanding!

Celebrated our anniversary with a first time visit to Stanbury. Our server was amazing Love the vibe here. We started off with cocktails, Out in the Sticks and Dance Alone. Both were good, and served quickly. For apps, we had the bread and little gem salad, and enjoyed both. The butter was the star! For dinner, I had tagliatelle (not a fan of this version) and husband had the steak - Best Ribeye in Raleigh, hands down! We ended with the Chocolate Torte, which I was pleasantly surprised with since I'm not an Escazu chocolate fan. Stanbury changed my mind about their chocolate with this beautifully prepared dessert.

Really interesting process to get a table, you cannot call ahead and make reservations. You walk up at 4:30 and in theory can make reservations for a later time that night... except when we asked for 6:30, they told us they really only had two seatings, 5 and 7:30ish. We ended up just staying, and they bring parties in one at a time starting exactly at five. I guess it's part of the shtick, but that's what lost a star for me. Getting someplace at 4:30 only to wait 45 minutes wasn't ideal. That said, the service was wonderful, and the decor is great, though, it's so dimly lit inside, you don't get the full benefit. We loved the men u and the food was overall outstanding. I was a little disappointed in the pig's head, but, to be fair, my husband thought it was great. The fried oysters were perfectly cooked. The grilled sweet breads were to die for and I've never had them anything but fried before. SO good.

I've heard so many good things about Stanbury, but never ventured over bc they don't take reservations & I love a reservation. We got there at 5 on a Friday and only waited 15 minutes, with a menu in hand. Every dish was amazing, honestly. The standouts for me were the smoked fish nduja and striped bass. The smoked fish nduja flavor was so addictive, my whole dinner could have been just that and I would have left happy. The striped bass had one of these nicest fried fish skins I've had in a while, and it stayed surprisingly crisp with the salsa on top. Another fun dish was the bulgogi zucchini - I knew I had to order this unique concoction when I saw it on the menu, and the flavors did not disappoint. The fried oysters dish had perfectly crisp oysters and the sauce gave sriracha mayo vibes, which I love. I love the vibes here, and the seasonal menu was spectacular. We sat outside on the porch which was nice, save for a few pesky flies. I kept hearing about Stanbury and how it's one of the best restaurants in Raleigh. They don't take reservations, so we had a 15 minute wait in a Tuesday night at 7:15 PM. We started out with the smoked fish spread. I saw it had harissa in it but it wasn't spicy at all. It had a wonderful smokey, almost venison flavor. For the main course, the Char Siu NC pork chop hit the spot. A beautiful smokey sweet flavor that was ten times better than the local bbq place we visited earlier in the week. There is plenty of food on this plate to split among two people. We finished the night with Blueberry buckle which is strusel cake, lemon sabayon, thyme, blueberry coulis. Be prepared for a lot of complex citrus flavors that are both tart and sweet. One thing to note, the atmosphere is very dark, and made reading the menu or taking photos somewhat complicated. Overall, we couldn't have had a better experience.

Falls Short on Living up to the Hype and Recent Guide Recommendations -- Restaurant Review: Stanbury - Raleigh,NC -- After reading a lot of recently good reviews about this restaurant and its mention in the Michelin guide, I decided it was probably worth the time to see what all the hype was about. When evaluating a restaurant, it is important to consider three main elements: Food, Service, and Ambiance. -- Nestled in a Northern Raleigh residential area, the restaurant's initial curb appeal makes you wonder what is truly hiding beneath the walls. With a rustic outdoor ambience and decorated with random vintage décor, you must wait in a line of potential patrons at 4:30pm to secure a table for the evening, no matter the weather. Inside the restaurant, you are greeted with a cabin-like country feel, with a continued theme of random décor, old garage-sale buys, and walls of chatka. -- The service is definitely elevated, with the staff complementing the environment with a 'welcome to our cabin' feel-like ambience, like pulling up a chair to an open campfire with a group of friends. The service staff made significant efforts to make you feel welcome and went above and beyond to ensure the dining experience left you feeling warm and inviting. -- Unfortunately, the food fell short of what one would expect from an elevated restaurant experience. -- We started with the beef tartare and bluefin tuna crudo, per the waitress's recommendation, along with an order of the bread & butter. The beef tartare definitely delivered a stellar combination of flavors, but fell significantly short in overall presentation. The dish's plating lacked creativity, appearing sloppy. It definitely was not inviting and certainly didn't appear to be a very elevated dish from first glance. The beef itself was well-seasoned, and the sharpness of the scallops complemented the overall dish and flavors, the richness of the quail eggs, the crunch and savory depth of the escargot, and the tanginess of the aioli. The tuna crudo did a better job of living up to the overall expectations of a strong dish, with a good appearance and a strong flavor combination with sunchose, chives, lemon, shallot, and olive oil. The bread was baffling to me. Essentially, you were ordering a couple of pieces of toast. -- We decided to go with the Choucrotte Garnis and homemade Tagliatelle pasta for our main entrees. The garnis was a major disappointment from start to finish, falling significantly short of what you expect from a dish deeply rooted in German and Bavarian tradition. From the poor plating to the less-than-harmonious combination of flavors, this dish really didn't have any degree of culinary elevation that would lead you to wanting more. In fact, I have absolutely experienced a much better version of this dish at a small corner pub in Europe. The bratwurst was bland and lacked flavor; the pork was flavor OK, but certainly didn't leave a memorable experience for me wanting more; and the mustard that complimented the dish completely took over, with an aggressively hot, sharpness that destroyed every bite. -- The Tagliatelle did absolutely stand out with the perfectly cooked, tender pasta, and stellar combination of flavors with porcini and chestnut mushrooms bringing a richness to the dish, garlic bringing a complementary aroma without overpowering the dish, pecorino adding a sharp edge, and walnuts introducing a nuttiness, finalizing a well-balanced and flavorful dish. -- We finished with sticky toffee pudding, date cake, eggnog ice cream, rum caramel, and Maldon. It was a good way to end the night and certainly provided the warmth and finale needed to top off a subpar food delivery. -- I always find it baffling when a restaurant curates amazing images of its dishes but fails to replicate them for actual guests. I wouldn't go so far as to say, " Don't go to this restaurant", but I would recommend tempering your expectations. It doesn't rise to the level of a phenomenal culinary experience. I also don't believe it was worth standing out in the cold weather at 4:30 to get a table for the evening. It's a lot of effort for a OK food experience.

This dinner was phenomenal and the menu is innovative! Stanbury-- I stan. The pork chop, butter and piping hot bread, beef tongue, and fried oysters were all highly recommended and well received. The flavors and plating were absolutely spot on. The service was fast and friendly. The hubs and I enjoyed the ambiance and the cocktails. The restaurant was packed but didn't feel stuffy. All in all, we'd come back in a heartbeat. Cheers!

This place is a culinary experience! This is the type of restaurant the depict in "The Bear" with an ever changing menu and dishes that only a true creative can concoct. This is a place where I say trust a wait staff recommendation and go out on a limb trying new dishes. Whether it's shared tapas style or splitting an entree the wait staff does an incredible job of spacing out your food so you have the perfect amount of time to sit and enjoy the company and ambiance of this tucked away gem! I wouldn't recommend this place to you if you're looking for a "quick bite". Go here to celebrate, catch up with friends or just enjoy an incredible meal GET THERE EARLY. for real, you have to get there before 5:20 on a weekend to get a spot by 8:30. With no reservations though must get there early and it'll be worth it. If there's a wait, just walk down to the standard or station and wait cause it's worth it

If you are going on a Saturday, be sure to get your name on the seating list right at 4:30! The timing worked out for us tonight and we absolutely devoured this meal. My favorites were the beef tartare, grilled romaine, and pickle soup (very unique and not too pickley, despite the name). Our server checked in at all the right times and ambiance was perfect. I appreciate the chocolate shop next door and plenty of heated spaces to wait until opening. We will definitely be back!!

The number one thing to know about Stanbury is they do not take reservation. And it's super popular. So timing is everything if you don't want to wait for a table. If you don't mind an early dinner, show up fifteen minutes before they open, get your name on the list and they will seat accordingly as soon as they open. Secondly, do know it won't be an inexpensive evening. You are paying for quality and perfection in execution. Four of us had a recent enjoyable Saturday dinner. The menu changes frequently. You won't find their menu on their website, but they will sometimes post one on Facebook. Off the current menu we shared off the small bites: Fried Oysters, Scallop Yakitori and Grilled NY Bigeye Tuna. All four of us agreed that the Tuna was the best. The Scallop, while good, was really expensive for what was probably two scallops cut up. So half a scallop per person. For the mains, we shared two of the pork chop dishes and one Tagliatelle. Having had pork here before, we knew they do especially well with it and they did again. The pasta was very tasty as well. For dessert we tried all three: a blueberry cheesecake mousse, peach cake and dark chocolate bread pudding. The blueberry one was the surprise favorite. Cake was a light blah, while bread pudding was the least fave. Service good. Two of us got a little water dropped on us when refilling water glasses, but hey they kept them filled to go along with the alcohol we consumed. As for ambiance, it's on the dark side, with medium to high noise level.

Wow. After not going to Stanbury's for 3 years. (not sure why) we went for a birthday early Mother's Day dinner. Remarkable. The bone in rib eye with their smashed potatoes remarkable. Mussels with awesome broth and bread crazy good. Our server Sydney was spot on with knowledge and perfectly timed service. Can't wait to go back. Will for sure be there sooner then three years. read more

My favorite restaurant in all of Raleigh and it has never disappointed. The suggestion is to order everything on the menu and sit back and have a culinary adventure. I visit bi monthly and every time they announce burgers. Best eatery in town. read more

4.5 stars. Scored last min reservations here. It was a great find for me. A small hipster gastropub that serves up mean dishes. - Bone Marrow - simple yet intense flavors with the sea salt and caper salad. - Tuna Crudo - Very refreshing dish. A lil too much sauce in it though. Might have been better it the sauce was just lightly seasoned into the dish. - Sweet Breads - Very tasty and flavorful. Almost like a sweet, sour, spicy peking flavor. - Crispy pork head - a pork jowl meatball. It was good but the mustard sauce kinda killed the dish. - Scallops in mushroom puree - Cooked perfectly the scallops had a nice crisp on the outside. The puree with the potatoes went very well. It was a tad but salty but still good. - Milanese pork chop - So crispy but so moist. It was one of the best pieces of pork I ever tried. Service was a bit slow and food took a lil long to come out but overall they were nice and attentive. Another spot on the list for next time! read more

We visited last night for my husband's birthday. They made a point to ask if we were celebrating a special occasion and he got a candle in his dessert and they also provided a free champagne toast! We had fantastic, attentive service. I love that Stanbury isn't too big, it feels intimate, and the food doesn't come out too quickly - so dining feels like a true experience and we can savor. Our appetizers were the tuna crudo and the crab toasts. The crab really shone - simple, but absolutely delicious. For entree my husband had the Swordfish and I had the tuna Puttanesca. His swordfish had so many wonderful things going on and amazing Provencal flavors! The tuna was fantastic, served in squid ink pasta with a rich tomato sauce. All of my favorite Italian flavors going on in there! We will definitely be stopping back in again (and maybe ordering the same things)! read more

Really good small plates, small funky atmksphere, great drinks and really friendly people. Had the swordfish crudo which was perfect, the cauliflower dish was a pleasant surprise lots of flavor and served with a great creamy sauce, not too much. The lamb was sooo tender and has a flavor unlike anything I have ever had. The schezuan peppercorn really dominates your palet and lingers for a while but the flavor is really good never the less. read more

Came here for dinner on Saturday night. We liked the ambience (festive) but the location is a bit isolated, doesn't appear to be anything close in walking distance. The food menu is a bit eclectic. Had the quail which was good but a tiny portion and had a lot of bones to work around. The crudo was descent but lacked significant flavor. The crispy pig head was ok, almost served like a crab cake... I did not like the oysters at all. This is the first time I ever ordered oysters (out of probably 50 times) that I didn't like, also the first time I couldn't finish them. They also have minimal dressing - so if you are a person that likes vinegar, horseradish or hot sauce with your oysters, know they are not served with those. It's hard for me to give a good review when I come across the only oysters I don't like. Would come back for a drink but not at all in a hurry to come back for the food. read more

One of the Top 3 best restaurants in town. Consistent. (consistent is important ya know?) Same chef owner, owners, and consistent team since opening. It is my "GO TO" restaurant for any Monday i'm in town, and maybe again on Friday or Saturday. :):):) Make sure you know where you're going. There's not a lot of signage outside. No need, just look for the full parking lot. (please don't put up a big gaudy sign) Don't sit at the bar. It's my favorite place to sit and I don't need you to make me wait longer for a seat. :) Definitely get a reservation, or enjoy a cocktail on the porch if you're OK with waiting a bit. (Enclosed/heated in the winter, and cool in the spring/summer) One of the best apéritif & digestif selections in town, cocktails, beer & wine. You can get a 40oz Miller High Life presented in a seau à vin and a champagne glass. Why? It's the champagne of beers! Menu changes daily with local fresh ingredients. Get the tag, fried oysters, daily oysters, whatever salad is on the menu, daily cheeses, if they have the duck pastrami, get it, the steak is always amazing, crispy pigs head, etc. (EVERYTHING is outstanding) Top menu items are "smaller" but 1-2 are enough for one person. Bottom menu items are larger, and always consistent with a few meat and fish options, along with vegetarian options. You can even bring your date here that only likes "chicken" for dinner. (Your choice on having those kinds friends) But hey, even they will like it. They will be scared of the menu and think it reads "too cheffy," just order for them, then break up with them the next day. Chef Drew, Joseph, Cory, Kari, Carrie, Katie, Sydney, Lily, Brandle, and whoever i'm embarrassed i've forgotten to mention, will all take care of you like family. Re: Coronavirus/COVID19 Pandemic: Handled/handling wonderfully. They are doing takeout typically Thurs/Fri/Sat nights. (I miss Mondays!!!) They post their daily menu each day around noon on their instagram and website. The take out menu is BOMB!!!!!! Duck pastrami fried rice?! Meatloaf. Husband said this was the best meatloaf he'd ever had. He ordered multiple orders to freeze the following night. Fried Oyster bánh mì , Jesus. Crispy Fingerlings!? Get F'ed!!!! Pick up for takeout is easy, they have a tent outside so you're not touching a door, and staff that stay far away, they carry out a paper bag to you without touching the handle, they don't let customers crowd each other. Even though they are all in gloves, they are constantly changing into fresh gloves! Cheers to the leadership at this business for quickly adapting to this new world and doing everything they can for their team. These are the kinds of businesses that will come back bigger and better than ever with loyal customers and team members. read more

Stanbury is truly a hidden gem! I am blown away that a restaurant can be this good after only being open a few weeks! I usually follow a strict waiting period on new places so that they may work out the kinks of being new. I am so glad I broke my rule this time!! The atmosphere, the service, the food...all fantastic!! I think we tried at least half of the menu on this outing and everything (oysters, salmon, cheese selections, pork belly, soft-shell crab) was fresh, creative in its presentation and just delicious! Our server was very helpful in choosing wine to complement our meal and his suggestions being a bit out of my comfort zone turned out to be amazing! A meal at Stanbury is an experience in culinary excellence! My husband and I look forward to returning and sharing with our foodie friends! read more

Great service, accurate recommendations, amazing food, interesting ambiance -- what's not to love? Because we didn't have a reservation, my friend and I were seated at the bar, where we shared small plates of fresh oysters, Roasted Marrow, NC Tuna Crudo (seasonal), and Crispy Pig Head. All of the dishes were incredibly rich and flavorful, salty but not overly so. Trying the roasted marrow was an experience--the marrow is used like a butter spread on whole grain toast then topped w cooked argula, onions, and capers. My favorite dish was by far the crispy pig head, which had a crispy, breaded outer layer with mustard cream and pork inside. Get a reservation ahead of time, and if you have a long wait to be seated, make sure to visit Escazu, the artisan chocolate shop next door. read more

Wow this place was incredible. The atmosphere is fantastic with the open garage door and good weather. The place is small, so a reservation might be helpful if you don't want to wait. I sat at the bar with a friend and we had perfectly good service there. We both had the cheeseburger which is apparently not always on the menu. If it is, get it. It's fantastic. We also had the fried green tomatoes as a starter which we also both enjoyed. I am already looking forward to my next trip back!! read more

I had the camarones a la diabla and they are were great but be prepared that they come with heads and shells still on and it's a messy affair taking them off. Stanbury has been on my list for awhile...but could it live up to the hype? Kind of. I loved how casual and fun the decor was and service was A+ all night. The food was good, but I wouldn't go as far to say great. I enjoyed it, but can't say it was memorable. My husband and I shared four small plates: pork head, bone marrow, short rib, and fried oysters. The short rib was our favorite, the bone marrow was good (basically buttered bread with a small amount of beef flavor), the pork head was really a let down based on the raving reviews, and the oysters were good but very small and you only get 6. I still enjoyed our experience but I don't think I will be anxious to return based on good food for $$$$. I don't mind paying high prices for food that blows me away but this was just a good experience...not phenomenal. read more

Best in Raleigh. Atmosphere is laid back and cool, and the food is incredible. We go there for the ribeye - seriously the most amazing thing ever. And the potatoes that come with it. WOW. They're always changing up the menu slightly, keeping on staples but changing it up so it's never exactly the same when you go back. Incredible wine list and cocktail menu. LOVE the entire staff - super friendly and the service is always spot on. I have nothing but good things to say! read more

After living in Raleigh for over 30 years Stanberry has become one of my favorite places to eat. Was not able to make reservations, so we figured we would show up and see if we could get a spot to eat. They said they had a table available but we would have to leave by 7:30 PM. It was our anniversary night so we figured why not. When we sat down, We were immediately greeted by our server who was very friendly and checked up on us constantly. We had three appetizers and one entrée and they all arrived at different times so we didn't have a stack of plates on our table. The atmosphere was eclectic highlighted by Mardi Gras beads, the music was perfect, but most of all the food was delicious. They handed us some celebratory champagne to drink by the fire outside on our way out. It was a great experience and we are already planning our next visit for a birthday. read more

I absolutely love going to this little bistro/restaurant. Their offerings are always unique, the presentation is sexy, and the flavor profiles are to die for. We had the Burrata, Quail, Buffalo Sweet Breads, Himachi, Rib Eye, and for dessert the Krispy Kreme tobacco bread pudding. Not one dish disappointed at all. The libations offered are always on point and the servers are personable, attentive, and very kind. The decor and ambiance is comfortable and cozy. read more

A MUST for Raleigh! We tried probably 80% of the menu by getting one small plate after another and this was one of the best meals we have ever had! Obviously fresh food and the chef is a genius by what he puts together. Kimchi brussel sprouts, green beans with pieces of blue fish, steak tartare, crispy pig head were a few of our favorites. The staff was really nice too! The atmosphere, food, staff, service all exceeded our expectations. read more

Loved everything we tried! This was our first time and we will definitely be going back. Even if it means driving 15 miles from Wake Forest...Excellent cheese plate, followed by the grilled romaine salad and finally the crispy pig face! Enjoyed the causal atmosphere and great service read more

The food and flavors were outstandingly memorable, as one would expect. We four ordered four or five small plates and two entrees. All items were five star. My friend and I visited Stanbury upon recommendation from his co-worker who said it was the best restaurant in town. After dining there we totally agree! We visited on April 20 and unbeknownst to us they had added a few "4-20 friendly" menu items on the list. My friend and I always order a variety of plates to share and inadvertently ended up getting some of the 4-20 specials, including a Monte Cristo that was to die for (but it's not regularly on the menu - boo!). The sweetbreads were fabulous as well. We had the scallops and steak as our entrees, after-dinner drinks suggested by our server, and a piece of chocolate cake. Our server was personable, funny, and took great care of us and we even had the opportunity to speak with the chef in person about our meal. I highly recommend Stanbury and will be back soon. read more

In most restaurants, when you're paying $40+ for a main dish...it's usually accompanied by a little bit of elbow room and good spacing between your table and the loud party next to you. Not so at the Stanbury. The food was delicious, but we were literally 2 feet from tables on both sides of us and made it literally impossible to have a private conversation without our neighbors hearing every word. If this type of proximity doesn't bother you then I think you'll love it. But if you like a little personal space, you may be perturbed. read more

I don't even know what to say. Had fried oysters to start and the Ribeye to close. Next level good. The smoked, brined, smashed and fried mini potatoes were almost better than the steak. You need a reservation so call way in advance. It could be the cucumber gin and tonic but I think this is the greatest restaurant of all time. read more

My boyfriend and I have been here only twice but this place has quickly become one of our favorite restaurants in Raleigh. Stanbury maintains its elegance while also creating a low key, cozy neighborhood vibe, almost blending in with the residential area that surrounds it. Reservations will make your life easier but we have also stopped by at 7:30 on a Saturday night and enjoyed a drink outside while waiting about 30 minutes for a seat at the bar. Standout thus far has been the oysters - we've now tried six types from different places and all were great, notably free of the excessive accoutrements that some places provide. That said we have yet to order a dish that we wouldn't try again. read more

If you haven't been to Stanbury yet, it is an absolute must! I went to Stanbury for the first time this past Thursday night and it was all around a perfect dining experience! To start, the servers were attentive, polite and extremely helpful with menu selections. Drinks & entrees were extremely unique- its the perfect place to go for a refreshing change of pace from your ordinary dining experience. Regardless of what you order you won't be disappointed- I was with a party of 8 and everyone left both impressed and satisfied (but I will say I highly recommend the Tagliatelle). Whether you are going out with family or friends, for date night or girls night out, Stanbury is hands down THE place to go! read more

Made a reservation for a Saturday evening. It wasn't super packed, but the tables were slowly filling. Thanks to Yelpers on tips for parking! I was able to know ahead of time arrive around 5pm to get great parking: several spaces directly in front of the restaurant. My server was excellent! She gave me great suggestions and was very attentive throughout the meal. She made it much easier to decide on what to order. I would definitely come back here to entertain clients or a special someone. read more

Another great restaurant for Raleigh. I made a reservation for 3, four days in advance and had no trouble getting a table (it as a week night). Parking was quite frustrating as there wasn't enough. Our waitress was extremely nice, casual, and extremely helpful. For starters, I ordered the grilled romaine - one of the best grilled salads I have ever had. I then went on to order the seared scallops - amazing! The other vegetarian at the table ( I often eat seafood) ordered the house made tagliatelle. Being a vegetarian, it's frustrating when the only vegetarian dish is a pasta - there are many more create things out there - anyhow the waitress insisted that it was delicious and should not be missed. She was right - it was amazing! so fresh and the cauliflower sauce that accompanied it was seriously like nothing I had ever had. Our favorite restaurant and bar. The menu changes often and you never know what you'll find here. We usually order several small plates, so that we can try as many of their dishes as possible. The roasted bone marrow is always excellent and you can take the bones home for your dogs. The bar staff is friendly and will ask questions to make sure you get a drink that you'll like. We like to sit at the bar and talk to the other patrons as they will often tell you about the dishes they have had and enjoy. This is a wonderful restaurant that is often busy, so make a reservation or be prepared to wait. read more

This location is in the newer part of North Hills, right beside Restoration Hardware, and fits perfectly in the area. There's not much street parking available, but there's a large parking deck right beside Restoration Hardware and a very short walk once you exit the escalator. I highly suggest parking close to the escalator to be closer to the entrance. I suggest a reservation to avoid a wait, especially if you're going during the evening or at peak weekend times like brunch hours on Sunday. Luckily, there's a small waiting area and seats outside as well if you do have a wait. The bar is large, so that's an option for waiting if it's not packed. The restaurant is large with lots of seating options. There's also a large, nice covered patio as well. I'm pretty sure they have heaters outside as well for colder months. The service, food, and drinks have always been excellent, with one exception. I deducted half a star because I wasn't a fan of the steak when I came with a friend once. She ordered a NY strip, and it was a perfect cut and a perfect medium, but it was bland. There was no seasoning, which was a huge bummer. We had to ask for steak sauce because it was just so bland. My favorite drink to order is the Hugo Spritz. It's the first place I've had one, and I've been hooked on those ever since. Some of my favorite orders include: Spring Rolls, Hot Crab Dip, Shrimp Hemingway, Blackened Chicken Alfredo, Mediterranean Bowl, and the Tavern Benedict with grilled chicken.

Then I got the chicken pot pie and biscuits. The pot pie had old biscuits for the topping, but the creamy mixture with large chunks of chicken was delicious. My biscuits came with honey and were served warm. I left with a slice of the chocolate-caramel-coconut cake, a side salad without onions, and a fried boneless thigh. The salad was made correctly, and the dressing was included. The salad was full of veggies, and the cake was rich and moist. Service was friendly and as soon as I finished my iced tea, another appeared. My wings were brought out first and it was a while for the rest of the meal as the restaurant was full. But they didn't rush me at all. I actually liked the space between the dishes, as I might not have been able to eat it all otherwise. I couldn't finish both biscuits and was even provided a container for the honey. I am going to miss Beasley's, but I'm glad I got a positive experience to remember the restaurant.

For dinner the last time I went, I had the Creamy Chicken Penne Pasta with Cajun seasoning and blackened chicken. I believe everyone should experience the quiet luxury of dining alone at least once. No hurried meal, no phone occupying the empty seat, no assumption that someone is missing. Just good food, a thoughtful atmosphere, and the freedom to let an evening unfold at one's own pace. At Peregrine, I have discovered that solitude and community are not necessarily opposing experiences. There is a little corner pocket to the left, perfectly positioned to watch the entryway. From there, I observe the gentle choreography of people arriving and departing: friends greeting one another, couples settling into conversation, a dining room finding its rhythm. I can participate in the life of the restaurant without needing to be at its center. And perhaps that is what I enjoy most. Dining alone here never quite feels like being alone. Much of that feeling comes from the people. Ty, the bartender, remembers my favorite drink and often brings it almost as soon as I walk through the door. A small gesture, perhaps, but being remembered without having to announce yourself is its own quiet expression of care. Riley, my server this evening, was equally memorable. The best word I have for his presence is grounding. Fine dining can sometimes come with a choreographed urgency, as though the purpose of service is to move guests efficiently through an experience. Riley offered the opposite: an unhurried, unpretentious attentiveness that made room for curiosity and silence alike. He knew when to engage and when to let me simply be. From the host's welcome to Ty's familiarity and Riley's steady presence, this team makes hospitality feel less like performance and more like belonging. And then there was the food. I began with the Corn Ribs, a playful reminder of what happens when a familiar ingredient receives serious consideration. There is something wonderfully unpretentious about corn, especially in the hands of a kitchen interested in its possibilities. The Crawfish and Grits with makrut lime followed, and here the kitchen's understanding of depth and intentionality became unmistakable. Grits carry generations of Southern food memory; the aromatic brightness of makrut lime expanded that familiar foundation without diminishing it. Each flavor seemed to have a purpose. Nothing felt arbitrary. With a chilled glass of Albariño, whose crisp acidity complemented the richness of the dish, the pairing was nothing short of perfection. For my entrée, I chose the Finisher Trout with collard greens and curry potlikker tea. I was drawn to the idea before the plate arrived. Collards and potlikker have histories: they have sustained families, anchored Sunday dinners, and carried Southern knowledge across generations. Potlikker, especially, speaks to resourcefulness and the wisdom of wasting nothing. The curry brought another tradition into that conversation. It was an imaginative meeting of the rooted and the unexpected. I appreciate a kitchen that understands the difference between complicating a dish and giving it complexity. I ended with Splendor & Purism: dark chocolate, dulce de leche, Earl Grey, and Shingo pear. Richness, caramel sweetness, fragrant tea, and fruit shared the final chapter. I liked that dessert felt worth lingering over, rather than a signal to hurry toward the check. And that freedom to linger is what stays with me. There was no obligation to keep conversation going, negotiate what to order, or explain why I was there alone. I could savor a course, observe the room, and let my thoughts wander. We sometimes treat solitude as something to remedy. A person dining alone can inspire curiosity or misplaced sympathy, as though an empty chair must represent an absence. Yet I find that dining alone can make us more attentive to the world around us: the exchanges between guests and servers, the generosity of small gestures, the temporary community formed by strangers sharing a room. From my little corner, I was both an observer and a participant. I return to Peregrine for its culinary imagination, certainly, but also for the consistency of its care. Exceptional hospitality does not have to fill every silence. Sometimes it simply creates a place where you can be fully present. So take yourself to dinner. Order something unfamiliar. Ask about the menu. Allow the evening to belong entirely to you. There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. And sometimes, a table for one offers the fullest seat in the house.
