Loved this place. The ambience itself earns all the stars, let alone the food and service being great. Well, it's cafe style so you aren't served, but she was still nice! We ordered the pambo (I think that's what it's called) with the eggs and Brie inside the toast. Delicious! Fresh! All flavors went together well, and they made me a great cappuccino to go with it. The outside patio is a dream; lots of plants and sitting space. In the back there is also a fireplace that I hope I get to see lit one day. The upstairs is also cool. Whether you are going alone to study or with a friend to eat, this is the place for you. read more

Came to this cute cafe for a last-minute brunch right before I had to leave for the airport. Food: good, but nothing spectacular. We got the Stable Eggs and Pomba. I really like the idea of local, farm-fresh ingredients, but the Pomba was just too heavy for me (the brie gelled up in the cold weather rather quickly), and the Stable Eggs was something I could've easily assembled at home, not seasoned particularly well. Service: Nothing to complain about, it's a quick line up to the register where you order and pay, and then you seat yourself with your number and the server brings the food to your table. My encounter with the cashier was pleasant, and he entertained me and my friends' fight to grab the check (obviously it's my turn to pay, Brian). Ambiance: I actually loved the ambiance, and this totally made the brunch so much more fun. We explored the back (they were having some sort of cheese-centric cooking class?) and found a variety of plants and cookbooks for sale. Such a cute and wild piece of jungle in the middle of the city. Overall, I think I'd come back here if I needed to stop by for a quick bite and didn't want to wait in 3-hour SF brunch lines. I was looking for a nice, aesthetic, quiet place to get some food and work done. This place has a great vibe, nice outdoor seating with a few spots inside. The food was great, I had the veggie sandwiching gluten free bread and it was super tasty. I saw a couple of pups hanging out which is always a good thing. Quiet, nice, clean and really cute. However it had no power outlets whatsoever and spotty WiFi. Maybe this is a business decision so that people don't stay long, I get it, but it's a total turnoff! Be wanted to come here for a while now and finally made it!!! The space is beautiful! Probably one of my favorite in the city. The outdoor area is great and the interior with the upstairs balcony type seating is super cool! If I lived in the area this would definitely be my typical work spot! But coming from the other side of the city late morning in a weekday parking around here was so difficult! That was my only compliant. Great little cafe hidden on the backstreets off Mission. This place has a beautiful little venue, complete with a second floor, a handful of options for seating and an awesome outdoor patio. Great for a cappuccino and an egg muffin with ham (so good! and affordable, thank goodness) on the weekends, I typically only stop in for pick up but would definitely come here on a lazy day to get my coffee fix, hang out with some friends, and maybe try their brunch at some point! Get there early, it gets crowded pretty quick and definitely expect to wait in line! I visited here today with my two dogs. Outdoor seating is cute and spacious, but a bit too cold to stay for a hot drink even sunny day in SF early March. We waited for a while for two drinks - a london fog and an espresso - and it made us even more cold outside. Well, it was fine, sometimes it takes time for many reasons - many customers, short staff, etc. My London fog was lukewarm and blend :( it was disappointing for the price and wait time. I come here a lot because the food is really good and reasonably priced, and the outdoor seating area is gorgeous. It can be hard to find a seat but I have always had luck. I'm docking one star because one of the cashiers who works on weekends a lot (a tall guy) has a serious attitude and treats customers pretty bad. Heading out to San Francisco, I had a long list of coffee shops I wanted to visit and this was on the top of the list. The food, coffee, and aesthetic were all good, but it was absolutely terrible service. Yes, I'm from the Midwest and so maybe that means I expect people to be courteous. Highly recommend this place. The seating either inside or outside are all great (even inside there is plenty of fresh air). The outside area is definitely a hidden gem in the Mission. I mainly eat breakfast food here and the fruit they give you with breakfast is very fresh/high quality. I generally get the veggie bagel and an iced latte and both are quite good. read more

It's such a cute cafe and loved the side garden. My friends and I came to have a light breakfast before heading off for our day's activities and it was a great way to slide into the weekend. There was a line out the door when we arrived but it moved relatively quickly. At 11AM on a Saturday, it was pretty busy which we expected. After we ordered our drinks and food, we milled for a little bit around the patio area hoping a table would open up. The bussers were super nice and helpful, they cleared off a table where a couple was at and promptly turned it into a 4-top for us. They were swift and kind and we were definitely thankful. I got the London Fog and Bacon and Brie panini (it came with a small side salad too!). Both were excellent and I ate every last bite. Bacon was crispy and rich. I would've enjoyed a touch more brie in the panini, but I would still order it again. We were cleaning up to leave when the bussers also came by to clean up for us which was more than kind of them to do. The atmosphere was just lovely and I'll definitely be back. read more

Love what they did with the space, the monstrous windowed doors are cool and allow sunlight to wash over the cafe.Their ham sandwich was delish! Very fresh, high quality ingredients were used throughout. The guy working the register had a laid back vibe and was very friendly. Stable Cafe is a good place for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. It's located near Folsom and 17th so a bit off the craziness on Mission. Maybe that explains why this place isn't too overly busy at times where you have to wait 30mins plus elsewhere to get a table. The menu offers a variety of healthy breakfast choices - from yogurt, oatmeal, to bagels and sandwiches that are mostly combinations of either panini or dark bread with egg, and cheese/bacon/veggies on the side. I tried the Pomba (toast, bacon, brie, egg in the hole, $7) and Nono (eggs, tomato, cheese, toast, $7). Both was good but the portion size not too large. I was actually still hungry afterwards. The coffee however was great - you can get French Press ($2.75) or regular coffee that was nicely bold and flavorful. Apart from the food, nice job on the interior (fellow Yelper Janice C. mentioned it used to be a police horse stall before?) - Stable Cafe is not too big but they made the most of the rather small interior. When I was a teenager (read: age 13) - my mom decided that getting me out of bed every morning was her life's work, and was making her miserable. I simply could not wake up, and it mattered none at all what time I went to bed. Ten hours or 3 hours of sleep - I'd still be hard to wake up. What's not cool about this place is - - - no outdoor seating (coffee is so much better in open air), uncomfortable seating (all wooden chairs or stools), and limited space resulting in no privacy. I am all about drinking my coffee and having my mind relaxed, and my butt comfortable. My butt was not comfortable here. Without a patio, I can't rate this place as 5-stars, but it serves up good coffee and service is very friendly. People in the Mission seem to hang here to work/read or what have you - and it's obviously a cool neighborhood joint. Taste-wise, I prefer Blue Bottle Coffee. But it's less hype here, good coffee, and much better prices than the exorbitant prices that Blue Bottle charges. Although reviews that take account for variables such as the structural layout, ambiance, food and service, and price are significant, whether a place had served to my purpose for the visit is often what translates into how I make sense of my experience. After getting tips from Yelp about their free wifi, cheap pannini, and generally friendly ambiance, I decided to make a visit and put in a few hours of work. The structural layout came as advertised; it had a cute outdoor seating area next to the café and large windows with a second floor to host laptop users. The place is cute and tiny with a long line of people waiting to order that tend to cluster from the entrance to the register. The menu was posted behind the staircase that was invisible until you get to the register. I was attracted to several menu items that included their sandwich items ($8) and their good looking empanadas behind the case. Instantly excited about the prospect of a productive afternoon, I ordered a mushroom and a spinach empanadas ($4.50 each) and pressed coffee ($2.25). It wasn't until I received the food and went upstairs I realized that the café did not have any plugs on the walls and the other laptop users could only stay as long as their battery life would let them. What a bummer. They also ran out of soy--until Monday--so my coffee tasted horrible even with brown sugar added. My empanadas were decent but quite expensive. It was not warm all the way through to the middle, but the fillings were still pretty tasty. I thought it tasted better with the side of smoky chipotle sauce that had a nice kick, but otherwise I wished I had ordered their sandwiches or simply go elsewhere for a better meal. Service was rushed and I felt compelled to bus my own dishes even when I had already left a tip. My visit was brief as I didn't even bother to break open my laptop. It was a wasted effort as I had to trek across town to find another café to get my work going. I thought their food was decent but not worthwhile when nearby options are better and more affordable. Stable Cafe is my favorite plan for bunch. Why only 3 stars? It's horribly inconsistent. I'm a regular (I go to Stable about every other week, and have been doing so for the past year or so), and am always surprised at my final bill, the size of my food/drinks, and how quickly (or not) my food arrives. I don't get the sense that new employees are trained very thoroughly. One example of this: the Mate Latte. Usually it comes in a large cup, and is perfect - just sweet enough, the mate is perfectly steeped, etc. Sometimes though, it's in a small cup (for the same price!), no honey, and too bitter to drink. The only pattern seems to be that new employees in particular really struggle with making the drink, which makes me think that more training before they get behind the counter would be helpful. Or the french press coffee. There are two prices: $2 for a small, and $2.75 for a large. However, there was a period of time when suddenly all "for here" prices for coffee changed to $2.75 for a small coffee, no refills. I asked why, and was told by a new employee, "It's just how we do it here." So now I just order my coffee in a to-go cup to avoid the confusion, even if I plan to drink it at Stable (saves me .$75 too, if I order a small). I've also gotten basic sandwiches that should come with ham, without any ham (and lots of eye-rolling if asked for a side of ham to add to the sandwich). Or wraps that are missing bacon. Or sandwiches on a bagel that should be on a croissant. Sometimes I'm overcharged, sometimes undercharged. I'll point this out if I notice while I'm there, but, with a menu that's relatively straightforward (at least for brunch), I'm not sure why there's so much variance in the bill. The people behind the counter can be friendly and nice, or completely rude. I keep coming to Stable though because the food is just SO GOOD. Best eggs in the city. As long as you're prepared to deal with inconsistency (I try to think of it as an adventure!), you'll enjoy your meal here. read more

This was a real catastrophe of poor service. I came here with a friend for brunch today before heading over to our office nearby. It was pretty evident from the first interaction with the staff that at least one staff member was drunk or high. But hey, as long as they do their jobs, who cares? We both separately ordered a Luna; I also got a cup of coffee and he an Americano. For some reason, I was given a table number placard and he was not. I assumed that would be because they would deliver both our meals to the same table--that turned out not to be the case. I ordered first, but he got his coffee first. After about 5 minutes of waiting for my coffee, I asked about it, and was bafflingly told, "We drank it." Okay? I asked for a new one, and they made it for me. Upstairs at our table, I got my food about ten minutes later. They took the table number away, leaving us to wonder how they would know where to bring my friend's food. I ended up finishing my meal before my friend got his--and we ordered the same thing within a minute of each other. He went down to ask about it. Meanwhile, the couple next to us had the complete wrong order brought to one of them, and the one whose food did not arrive also went downstairs to complain. (Edit: My friend finally got his food and filled me in on his trip downstairs. Apparently, he dealt with a second waitress who was also obviously in an altered state, who was eating and drinking while he was trying to converse with her, and she didn't seem to care much about the situation.) My friend came back upstairs and a few minutes later, the obviously-impaired server followed. Clearly having a trouble time forming a coherent sentence, and giggling the whole time, she told him, "We're going to take a little longer making your Luna, okay?" Not caring to make a fuss, my friend said that was fine. By this point the guy at the table next to us who got the right order had finished his, and his partner was still downstairs trying to figure out where hers was. They received a complimentary cookie as an apology (they said it tasted disgusting). About 20 minutes later, my friend got fed up with waiting and went downstairs to check again. He was told, completely inexplicably, that they simply weren't making his order and had forgotten about it. They said they would start again. Eventually, the table next to us got their correct order, preposterously late. At this point we had been there close to an hour in total. My friend suggested I just head over to the office without him, since who knows when this debacle would finally resolve itself? So I did that, and then I started writing this review. He still doesn't have his food. Nice one, Stable. Bang-up job. You've inspired the second Yelp review I've ever written in my life. read more

Perfect for a wedding in the city. Last year my wife and I were planning our own wedding. It is a hard job and mostly because of all the decisions you have to make. There are lots of places who promise to save you from some of those decisions by providing a one stop shop for your wedding. You could be in a very nice venue having a very nice meal with your friends and family and be totally happy. We went to wine country and a few other destinations around the bay area and kept thinking we could do better everywhere we went. We just didn't want the same wedding, with the same white chairs, under the same trellis arch. We met in the city and decided to get married in the city. Minah and her team at Stable helped us arrange a perfect night in their beautiful space. They were incredibly accommodating to our needs and to our other vendors. Our coordinator told us one story about them needing to pull out a ladder and fix a tree branch which had fallen and just would not have looked right, just in time for our guests arrival. A lot of people will add stress to the days before your wedding, but not Stable Cafe. They are easy-going and extremely helpful. One of the more important thing is that they are willing to work with any caterer and have an amazing kitchen. Trust me, this is a huge benefit. If you are having an event with around 85 people, this is a great space. read more

Stable cafe is one of my new favorite places to have brunch on a sunny morning. I especially love the outdoor seating in the garden area with all the succulents and the modern rustic interior design is dreamy. I always get the "luna" if its on the menu because it is TO DIE FOR! Egg, ham, cream cheese and mozz on a toasted bagel. If you get a chance to take a peek at the back room at the end of the garden its amazing! At first you have this amazing hip space with one of the best courtyards I've seen in SF that doesn't require an entry fee. You also have a crowd that would otherwise illustrate the perfected mix of SF urbanite you read in those travel magazines. However, the coffee plain sucks and the service isn't too off. Food is not bad, though highly overpriced. I recommend the Nana - toast with ham, eggs, and cheese. You can't go wrong with that. I really wish they'd get the coffee right, but for now they are alright in my book... A friend recommended I check out Stable, promising I would love it, so I had high hopes that were completely satisfied as soon as I stepped inside. It's a small coffee shop, but very cute - A+ for atmosphere and cozy-ness (especially the upstairs seating). I paid my first visit on a particularly cold day so I didn't get to enjoy the outside seating, but I will definitely be sure to come back on a warmer day since everyone raves about this. Coffee was yummy as was my croissant. The service is stellar here! I also didn't get kicked off the wifi network once - woot! My only two complaints would be: 1) no outlets and 2) it closes at 4pm. I read about Stable on Yelp and thought I check it out today. What an awesome space for a coffee shop! I can easily see myself coming back here with my laptop and hanging out for a couple of hours. The ceiling is about 20ft high with huge ~15ft windows on the street side of the building. The interior is loft like, modern industrial with a lot of rustic timber and steel with seatings on 2 levels. Interior seating is limited but there are 5-6 tables outside as well. The Wifi is free which is a huge plus. I ordered a Ham & Swiss Panini which comes with a side of mixed salad with vinaigarette dressing. The paninis come on french bread which is an interesting twist. It was good but on the small side. At 6.75 though, it's pretty reasonable. The small French Press coffee at 1.75 was reasonable. The coffee was good, but not great. I'll try their Espresso next time. Parking was not difficult, at least on an early Friday afternoon. 3.5 stars for the coffee, 4 stars for the sandwich and salad, and 5 stars for the space! I'll be back with my laptop to write more Yelp reviews here! 3.5-4 stars for coffee, 4 for the panini I had, 4 for atmosphere. I work right down the street from here, so stable cafe USED TO BE my go-to lunch and coffee spot for a year and a half. After about 3 months of bringing my own lunch to work (it's hard times, yo!), I recently decided to treat myself and head back to stable for my favorite menu item, the quinoa salad. What I got was not what I expected. What I got was a measly tuna-can-sized portion of quinoa salad. A 1/4 of what the portion size used to be, at the same price (~$9). The quality was good, but I couldn't enjoy my meal because I was so angry. The quality of service and portions are decreasing, and the prices are remaining the same. I am so disappointed. As beautiful as Stable Cafe was, the horrible service inspired me to write my first yelp review. I went to Stable Cafe on a Saturday around noon. It had a steady flow of people, but not very busy. What first threw me off was the nasty look I got from the girl at the register. I still can't figure out a reasoning for. My friend and I then waited quite a bit of time for our food, which later didn't make too much sense because the portions were so small. So my brother, who was also wondering where his latte was after 15 minutes, and I decided to go inside and see what was taking so long. The two waitresses we're hanging out behind the counter having a conversation, while five plates were sitting next to them getting cold. They then brought out our food, but the waited another 5-10 minutes for my friend to get her food and my brothers latte. The food was good and the outdoor space was beautiful, but based on the poor service I received I will never go back. I would much rather have anyone give me great friendly service, than a Urban Outfitter Model with no work ethic. read more

What's going on with the 3.5 stars?? I'm totally shocked. My first experience at stable was awesome, just the perfect place to enjoy a perfect SF summer day. I had SUCH a different experience with the service! Our service was spot on. The servers were energetic and friendly, made my hibiscus mimosa the second I ordered it, and with a smile. They brought our food out promptly, again with smiles and jokes. Lets talk about the most delightful thing about stable...the SPACE. It is just so beautiful. It caught my eye while I was driving by, and I knew we had to check it out ASAP. Turns out that SF gave us a gorgeous week, and stable was the perfect place to enjoy the weather. The modern rustic vibe, the gorgeous garden with succulents adorning the walls, the garden in the back, the open spacious interior...we sat there for hours, re-ordering plate after plate because we just wanted a reason to stay longer. Sure, the food isn't michelin rated, but it's a cafe, relax! We had a pear/brie panini, and a fig/goat panini. I wasn't into the fig nor did I like the choice of bread, but did enjoy the pear/brie. The quinoa salad was excellent though, refreshing and great for a warm day. Please go enjoy the space. You owe it to yourself. read more

I wanted the poultry in the grilled chicken sandwich. But I also wanted the squash in the veggie sandwich. What to do, what to do. Solution (as recommend by the friendly guy working the counter): add squash to the grilled chicken. Cost you two quarters more. Done. My veggie/grilled chicken hybrid was superb, and it came with an unexpected side salad. As for the space, well, I can't really articulate better than I did in my first yelp. Homey feel, yummy food, and great place to getaway. For some reason every time I come to this place I can't help but feel at home. I love how small it is and I love the fact that its in such a residential area. Sometimes when I want to getaway for a bit and just spend some good ol' alone time this is the place I like to go. The food is nice and healthy and the portions are just right. Everything is quite simple. The atmosphere, the food, the seating all work with one another to create this little cafe like coffee shop. This review is an overall review for the place and it's my own personal experience of all the times I have spent at Stable Cafe.
