After placing our orders, a sudden downpour changed our minds. We were lucky to find a table near a large window overlooking the street. We ordered lattes, but it wasn't just the lattes that warmed our heart. The service is top-notch. The servers were friendly and brought warmth on this cold windy day. Tried the Nicoise salad and honestly it felt more like a giant plate of mixed greens with canned tuna sprinkled on top. Way too much lettuce, barely any green beans, plus raisins and cheese which felt weird for a Nicoise. A proper Nicoise is usually more balanced with tuna, potatoes, eggs, tomatoes, olives, and vinaigrette all carrying equal weight. Would've been way better served in a bowl and half the size with more focus on flavor over volume. The chicken panini was also pretty underwhelming. Tarragon Cafe has a very sweet collection of menu items to satisfy a diverse mood and taste: Soup and salad, frittatas, paninis, chicken Caesar, nachos, avocado toast, hummus plates, pain au chocolat, ham & cheese croissant, biscotti and all sorts of specialty coffees and teas. I enjoyed their New England Clam Chowder and salad, it was excellent. Their soup of the day- and I was torn between choosing- was Thai red curry. Service was warm and personal, ambiance was calm and welcoming. SFFD stopped in to pick up lunch and I thought that was another absolute vote of confidence in Tarragon Cafe. The banh mi was delicious! I've had it twice and I can say it's delicious! It might not be an authentic one since this is a panini and not on a baguette but the pickled vegetables, and pork belly was delicious. I had a kale quinoa salad once and I do not enjoy it. It had lettuce in it and that was not appreciated by me. The service is quick and I love the location. Dogs are allowed outside but not indoor so I would call it dog friendly! read more

Decided to walk into this place because it smelled really good! I noticed a sign that there's no laptops on the weekend so I assume lots of people come here to work/study on the weekday. Walked up to the cashier and ordered an almond croissant and a chai latte. She rung me up. I was waiting for the croissant but it didn't seem like she was getting it for me. Also it wasn't busy, there wasn't a line forming behind me. Then people started rolling in when I was waiting. I asked the cashier that rung me up if she got the croissant I asked for and she flat out said no and proceeded to do what she was doing.. She barely even acknowledged me... Chai latte was ok. I was pleasantly surprised by this little cafe. I needed a quick lunch to go and was able to call in my order for pick up, let them know I needed it ready by a certain time, and they made sure to take care of me quickly when I arrived. The grilled cheese was better than I thought it would be, a crunch on the outside of the buttered sourdough bread and tasty cheesy goodness on the inside. A simple but satisfying grilled cheese. Tortilla was nice and warm, great wrap job, tons of chicken, croutons were crunchy until the end, lettuce very fresh and crunchy and perfect amount of dressing. Very cute and quick sit down lunch or just to sit and work! Plenty of seating indoors and some two person tables outdoors. On a sunny day, it's a lovely cafe to sit in and have a coffee chat. It's super close to Duboce Park too, so you can easily meander over there and dog watch after; people often bring their dogs to the cafe and sit outside as well. There's also live jazz on on Thursdays(?) at 5:30pm. I got the Caprese Panini ($14 + tax). The bread was super crispy and the pesto inside was delicious. Tarragon is one of those neighborhood gems you feel lucky to live near. Mario, the owner, is genuinely one of the kindest people -- you can tell he truly cares about the food and the community. Everything here tastes like it was made with love. The clam chowder and Caesar wrap are my absolute favorites (I crave them weekly), and the staff is always warm, friendly, and helpful. A quick note: they do limit laptop use at certain times, and honestly I appreciate it. It keeps the space comfortable and welcoming for everyone, especially when it gets busy. Some people complain, but I actually think it makes the café feel more relaxed and community-oriented. Their Saturday night rotating dinners are always delicious, and whenever I don't feel like cooking, Tarragon is my go-to. If you haven't tried it yet, you're seriously missing out! read more

Heard about this restaurant from a friend and finally got to try out their Friday night dinner with live music. A very casual cafe with cozy friendly seatings. This cafe used to only serve breakfast and lunch but have expanded to serve dinners on Fridays and Saturdays. Located in a part of Fillmore Street that is very nice. Chef Mario presents his weekly special on his huge chalk board inside the cafe. A piece of art in itself. We had lasagna tonight in addition to hugh plates of nachos with sausage & cheese topping. So Goood. We are also eying the delicious sandwiches in the glass case. Too full tonight. Will definitely comeback to try those another day. read more

This is a jewel in Nopa! This is the perfect place for a very casual brunch with friends or a quiet establishment to work from home. The restaurant was a little more quiet than I expected, so I wouldn't suggest this cafe for a large group meal where you expect to yap super loudly. If you're looking for a more intimate setting for a 1-on-1 brunch, this is the place to go! Food recommendations include the Fillmore Salad or Fillmore Wrap! Service has been rude on several occasions and it feels uncomfortable being there, like they're watching how long you stay. Plenty of breakfast items, salads, and sandwiches on the menu. Unfortunately, they were out of chicken and pork belly when we arrived. We ended up splitting the Breakfast Sandwich & Smoked Salmon on Levain Toast. Both breakfast items came with either fruit or salad. Its funny how you can live so close to a place for awhile and never tried it. But today seemed as good a chance as ever since we were badly craving a big ole salad after a few weeks in Italy lol And boy are these salads big! Haven't been back to the lower haight in years and stopped by cafe Réveille (too busy and wasn't feeling it). I was hungry for breakfast and checked reviews in neighborhood and spotted Cafe Tarragon. Walked in and was greeted by warm smiles and good vibes. I ordered the frittata (which is made by the gentleman behind the counter) and A cappuccino. The coffee was strong and yummy (maybe not "pretty" with fancy foam etc but decent indeed). Veggie frittata was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavors. Salad dressing great. It was very fresh and healthy, and food came out fast. Based off the sign they had on their sidewalk chalkboard, they also seem to have live music on certain days of the week, which seems cool. I wanted to try their avocado toast or smoked salmon and I ended up getting the smoked salmon with a side of salad and it did not disappoint! Loved the pickled green onions and capers on micro salad and the generous sprinkling of roasted pepitas (?) that provided the perfect crunch along with levain bread. Came here on my birthday--I was getting some pastries at Choux down the street and asked the owner if they had any coffee shop recommendations. She recommended Tarragon, so I headed over to grab two coffees afterwards. It was pretty empty when I went (around 9 AM on a Friday) and the employees were friendly. The prices are basically what you'd expect for San Francisco--pretty expensive. The portion size didn't justify the price either. But the coffee tasted fine and I felt happy supporting somewhere local. I wouldn't say that the coffee was "worth it" or that I'd go back regularly. If I'm in the area and desperate for coffee, I'd probably stop by again. But I wouldn't go out of my way to have it. If you have the money to spare, it's a nice cafe to visit and check out! read more
