The menu says it comes with salmon and crab, but I didn't get any of that. Maybe it was the small amount of minced seafood under the shrimp, but regardless it was almost nonexistent. The other guests ordered the Chicken Marsala and Braised Short Ribs and those were very good. The Patata Bravas which is basically fried potatoes dressed with some sort of aioli were also really delicious. I couldn't even get the attention of anyone as they seemed to all be huddled in the kitchen. I had the Caesar - $14, which presented well but was really awful. It was soaking wet with a dressing that had absolutely NO CAESAR flavor. The cheese on top, also flavorless and the 2 croutons were rock hard. I have never had such a bad Caesar. The Artichoke soup was o.k. My friend did really enjoy his Moules Thai which had the best sauce I have ever tasted and the killer fries of course. We each had a Crepe for dessert which is always super delicious. The whole meal was not worth $102 for lunch. There are also those who built the reputation of San Francisco's dining scene which rose as a star and then become a fallen star years later. It happens to our favorite sports athlete and entertainers who had over a decade of stardom and to fall from its former glory like a fallen Angel. There is one place which had a 17 year consecutive run as a Michelin Star restaurant in San Francisco and finally lost its star in 2024 . It is located in the cusp of the San Francisco tourist trap of Fisherman's Wharf and it's the one and only Gary Danko. On a Fleet week weekend in SF I was feeling patriotic and I decided to try Gary Danko which serves Contemporary American cuisine. After watching the Blue Angels show across the sky while the sun was out I built up an appetite. I got the 5 course meal for dinner which started with a Lobster Risotto with rock shrimp which was tasty and not too salty like some in SF. I then I got the Roast Maine Lobster with Chanterelle Mushrooms which had a claw which was savory and similar to what I saw on my social media feed. Then I got the duck and it was tender and delicious . I then had an artisanal cheese tasting with featured cheeses from all over America. I finally had the Baked Chocolate Soufflé with Two Sauces which was rich and not too sweet and a good treat. I washed it down with a drink called the breakfast of champions and an after dinner Sherry. Gary Dankos is still a star in my book and a great American restaurant in SF ready for a comeback and rise to a Michelin star again. Only after my father spoke up and said that he had seen it too did she stop and say she would go check. It was only after we returned home that I realized I had clicked on a 2024 menu. Still, her response to a simple question was extremely off-putting, especially given that her tone became noticeably more respectful when speaking to my father. I understand that I was looking at an outdated menu, but there was no reason to respond so dismissively to a genuine question, particularly at a restaurant of this caliber. It was the first link that popped up when searching "gary danko menu". The second issue occurred during our second course, when the staff forgot my father's corn soup. He realized it had been missed because they had brought him a knife and fork but not a spoon. When he flagged down the same server, she and the original server, who had briefly peeked around the corner before walking away, eventually came over to check on it. Her response was, "It's on its way now. It's just not done yet." At the very least, I would have expected an apology for forgetting the soup. Other minor issues added to the overall disappointment. When calling weeks prior, no one picked up the phone. It leads to an automated voice system that couldn't answer my questions. I left my phone number in voicemail and never heard back. During the meal, I never learned any of the servers' names. When I previously dined here with a group of seven people in a private room, the service was the best we had ever experienced. Our server introduced himself and was genuinely kind and attentive. Yesterday's experience, by comparison, felt impersonal, with different staff members bustling around without much personal attention. No one offered to walk us through the tasting menu or explain the dishes. On top of all of this, I'm pretty sure I ordered a soufflé for a friend and they brought out crème brûlée. Since my friend didn't want to bother them and I was already unsettled from asking a basic question, I didn't bring it up to the servers. The food this year was also just okay. The beef tartare contained beets, and the avocado mousse had so much lime that, when paired with the beef, it tasted more like guacamole than a dish with distinct beef flavor. The duck breast and hash was my favorite entrée, although I learned that I do not enjoy endives. The quail was cooked well but was not seasoned to my taste. The tagliatelle was so buttery that I could not finish it. The Louisiana butter cake was excellent, and my friends enjoyed the soufflé and crab salad. Overall, we paid $800 for dinner last night, but the interaction over a simple question about eggs Benedict was disappointing.
