Wooden Spoon serves up a solid all-day (till 3 pm) weekday breakfast, that I would definitely come back for. From the brothers behind Woodhouse Fish Company, this newly discovered spot may be come a breakfast staple. The Big Spoon ($25) is a fitting name for a dish served on an enormous plate with a healthy serving of eggs, bacon, two buttermilk pancakes, and a generous helping of breakfast potatoes. Their eggs Benedict comes with a nontraditional hollandaise alongside arugula salad, those same delicious potatoes and a small sampling of fresh fruit. They have a creative list of breakfast cocktails and a healthy looking Chinese chicken salad and a variety of sandwiches, if you want to head in a lunch direction. A warm beige, dark wood and green interior with traditional wainscoting, a long bar, and some old school vibes gave it a classic feel, especially given its location inside the historic Swedish American Hall.
This place always has a crazy wait on the weekend. However, during the work week, it's pretty easy to get a seat immediately. So keep this place in mind, if you're running a morning errand in the Castro. Big Spoon w/ Biscuit: Like those diner combos, but much higher quality. Definitely more food than I'm used to eating in one sitting! The pancakes were so fluffy, like pillows, and did a great job soaking up the butter and maple syrup. Though the syrup portion was a bit skimpy, so the jam was good for later stages. The home fries were some of the best I've had; like they were roasted in spices and then deep fried to make them crispy. So flavorful! The biscuit was great for dipping into my sunny side up eggs, though a tad dry when the yolk ran out. Bacon was long and firm, the way I like it. Some nice fruit on the side as a palate cleanser.
Finally made my way to Wooden Spoon after it sitting in my bookmarks for a year! Such a cute establishment :) We came on a Monday afternoon and did not have a wait. We ordered the Market St. Benedict, Morning Bowl, Big Spoon and the Swedish Lemon Pancakes! Every dish was perfection! The fried potatoes were crispy, eggs were cooked to each of our preferences, and the lemon pancakes were so soft and fluffy! On top of that, we had amazing service and the food came out relatively quick! Will definitely be back again :)
My friend and I were in the neighborhood and wanted to stop by for a late lunch around 1:45 pm. One of the waitstaff told us there was a table being cleared and cleaned for us and that we could wait on the side until we were called. However, the host told us to scan the QR code to put our name on the waitlist. Realizing there were a few others ahead of us and that the wait could be around 30 minutes, we decided to hop back into our car, which was parked about 50 feet from the restaurant. Surprisingly, we received a text 5-10 minutes later informing us that our table was ready. It seemed like there may have been some confusion between the host and waitstaff. We were seated in a tiny corner at a long table with bar stools. We inquired about the table that the waitstaff had initially told us was being cleared for us, but the host informed us that all those tables were reserved for larger parties of 3 or 4 and that we would have to wait another 30 minutes for one of those tables. Yet, it was 2 pm, and it seemed like more tables were becoming available. Unfortunately, we weren't offered a more comfortable table to dine at, so we just settled for the bar stools. That was disappointing. *** OUR PICKS *** FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH ~ fried chicken, rosemary focaccia, sun-dried tomato aioli, arugula. The focaccia bread was pillowy soft, the aioli had a spicy kick, and the chicken was crispy yet tender inside. Overall, it was a good sandwich. I do think it would benefit from having a few more toppings, such as sliced red onions, tomatoes, and/or a pickle, so diners have the option to add some freshness and texture. The only vegetable included was the arugula. 4/5 CRISPY YUKON GOLD CREAMER POTATOES ~ whole grain mustard crème fraîche. These were tasty, crispy potatoes, and the crème fraîche was flavorful. A great pairing with the sandwich. 4.5/5 My friend and I decided to split the sandwich and potatoes since this was a late lunch. It was just the perfect amount to satisfy us while still being light enough that we could have dinner at a reasonable time. Aside from the seating experience, we had an enjoyable meal. I wasn't quite sure why the host assumed more people would be coming in for lunch that late in the afternoon, especially with the kitchen closing at 3 pm. Honestly, the food here is pretty good, and if we had been given a better table, especially since it was already past 2 pm, the experience would have been 5 stars.
Stopped in here after a Saturday Barry's class with one other person and waited about 10 minutes for a table. We got seated at a booth that overlooks the kitchen which was a really fun spot to sit. Even with people on both sides it didn't feel cramped at all. I ordered the Little Spoon with sunny side up eggs and added bacon on the side. Really solid breakfast plate. Nothing over the top but everything done well. The wheat bread was a highlight for me, fluffy and way better than your average toast. The one hiccup was at the end of the meal. We asked for the check and it got forgotten for a while. Had to flag down a different waiter before it finally came out. Small thing but worth noting given how smooth the rest of the experience was. Overall a great spot for a post workout breakfast. Would go back!
If you're looking for a brunch spot with plenty of vegan options, look no further! This charming little brunch spot offers a great selection of vegan-friendly dishes, along with something for everyone. There's plenty of seating, the portions are generous, and everything we ordered was delicious. We tried several breakfast plates, and each one was flavorful and satisfying. Definitely a great place for brunch, whether you're vegan or not!
Don't come here with any party larger than 4, because they won't have space for you. I had a group of six, we've been waiting for over an hour and a half, and for the last hour, there's been zero parties ahead of us, yet smaller parties ( waiting for 20 min or less) are getting in before us. I get that this place is capacity constrained but how the hell is this possible? I guess if we separated into small groups we should have gotten in sooner but why is that not explicitly written anywhere? Given the wait, this better be the best Goddamn brunch that ever existed. Update: it's good, but not worth waiting more than 45 minutes for. If the line is that long or longer, go somewhere else. It's not worth that long of a wait. It is frustrating because they refuse to give us a timeframe on when we could get seated, and this is honestly one of the worst places I've been to in terms of transparency for seating times. That being said, food was decently priced (ordered 5 dishes for 6 people and shared family style), and of decent quality. We ordered the French toast, big spoon (medium poached eggs), muesli, house hash, fried chicken & biscuit, and three nitro cold brews. After tax, 5% surcharge and tip, it came out to just over $150. The main reason for the rating is simple - no group, regardless of size should have to wait two hours to be seated, where smaller parties are "prioritized" over others. That's a failure of planning and the seating chart organizationally, and blaming customers is... A really poor excuse.
Arrived Saturday morning within an hour of opening to avoid waiting, and luckily there was no wait! The ambiance is nice and modern. SERVICE Fantastic! Both the hostess and our server were amazing. The food came out quickly and water was topped off multiple times. FOOD I got the House Hash and it definitely looked better than it tasted. The short rib was very tender but could use more time marinating/seasoning. The amount of crème fresh was very overwhelming on the palate and sadly took over the entire dish. Potatoes were overcooked. Matcha Latte was yummy and came with a cube of sugar. My sister liked the Chai Latte. Maybe next time I'll try a brunch cocktail, but there are so many other delicious brunch spots in the area.
This place is pretty awesome. Great atmosphere with a massive bar and a sunken kitchen. The street side windows do open fully creating a nice breeze. Came for a Monday lunch and it had a nice crowd which is a testament to the great value. Amazing flavor and reasonable price point. I think I just had the best tuna melt I've ever eaten. I also was quite impressed with the muesli . Photos say it best.
I ordered the House Hash with my egg sunny side up and it was scrumptious. The short rib was tender, the potatoes were crispy, and letting the yolk run over everything made it. Big portion and well worth it. I would order it again. Tip : Don't come in a big group after opening time it would be hard to find a large table.

I've walked by this spot a few times and always see a lot of people waiting in line/for a table on the weekends, so was curious to try. It took around 1hr between when I joined the Yelp waitlist and when we got seated. I had the Chinese chicken salad, which was pretty standard and solid. My friend got the breakfast panini and thought the same. Perhaps we ordered wrong (swedish pancakes and short rib seem popular!), but did not fully understand the hype + 1hr wait. The restaurant interior was pretty packed and a bit noisy.
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the fresh, flavorful food, friendly, attentive staff, and cozy, inviting ambiance. Drinks are also well-regarded.

Wonderful Friday brunch at Wooden Spoon. Everything is so fresh, wholesome and actually satisfying. We got the crispy potatoes, avocado toast, and I had the Morning Bowl with an egg + bacon. That pistachio-basil pesto with the veggies is sooo good. Love the big spoon, the pancakes . Oh the Tuna melt is another showstopper! Ordered the Big Spoon and a mocha, it comes with really good servings. Bacon, eggs, potatoes, fruit, sourdough and pancakes . It hit the spot. Yes!!! I recommend the Wooden Spoon. It deserves the "Bravo"award!!! De-Liciuos!!! read more

So delicious! I really liked the chicken and biscuit. The chicken was perfectly crunchy outside and juicy inside, the biscuit was soft and buttery, and the hot honey added a nice kick. My friend got the pancakes and they looked so fluffy! Service is quick and friendly too. It's a cute vibe inside too! It took about 10 minutes for our party of 4 to be seated at a table, even though the queue said it would be a 25-35 minute wait. If you see a long wait, perhaps don't lose hope too quickly and stay nearby in case you get called early. They do release your reservation 15 minutes after notifying you the table is ready. Also, when making a reservation, there's an option to choose exclusively either the bar or a dining table. If you'd like to prioritize conversation during your meal, I'd try to choose exclusively the dining table! It was a harder to hear at the bar. read more
Cute place with good food options. Kinda loud, but had enough options for everyone. Some cheaper options for smaller plates, robust drink menu for coffee and cocktails. Felt a little costly to me, but we would come back again! Recommend getting coffee and one of the specials. read more

Wooden Spoon is a beloved neighborhood brunch spot in Duboce Triangle. We tried the eggs benedict, hot chicken biscuit, biscuits & gravy, house‑made sausages, and granola‑crunch french toast. Portions are hearty and comforting, with standout sweet and savory picks. No reservations, so expect lines on weekends; bar seats open up faster. The space gets busy and a little noisy. Prices are fair for San Francisco brunch. Great for a casual weekend morning meal with friends. Would happily return. read more
Honestly might have just found my new favorite brunch spot. Don't come with a large group unless you're ready for a wait. Even for 2 people at 11:30am, the wait was around 30 minutes. But the wait is worth it. We each got a cocktail- I got this bourbon chai tea cocktail that was amazing and my friend got an espresso martini that she really enjoyed. We shared an order of the Swedish pancakes, I got the Chinese chicken salad, and she got the tuna melt. Everything was delicious. The Swedish pancakes are ADDICTIVE- great flavor and great texture. I was stuffed and still kept going back for more. The Chinese chicken salad is a contender for best salad in the city in my opinion. And the tuna melt was BIG and very flavorful. On other tables, many of the dishes we didn't order looked so good and I almost regretted not getting more (until I realized I was super full). I need to go back and explore the menu more. The staff were super friendly and helpful for recommendations. I will be back. read more
A cozy, quiet breakfast spot with a relaxed feel at Wooden Spoon. I ordered the chai latte, Swedish Society pancakes, and the salmon scramble. The entrées were good, just nothing that particularly stood out overall, but it was an enjoyable meal and I left satisfied. The salmon scramble was my favorite. It was super creamy, the arugula balanced it nicely, and the potatoes were really crispy. Really lovely dish. The fruit it came with, though, didn't taste particularly fresh and was better left off the plate. The ambiance was a highlight. The space felt very cozy and quiet, especially since we went a little after 8am, which made for a relaxed experience. Service was also fast and attentive. The chai latte, however, was disappointing. It tasted really watery and didn't resemble a chai latte at all. I wasn't able to finish it. That said, the restaurant kindly removed it from our bill, which was appreciated. Overall, a positive experience great atmosphere, even if the food was more on the simple side. read more
Such a gem of a place! Came here for brunch with my girl friend and will definitely be returning more often. The place is located on Market street, as you walk in you pass the bar and a smaller seating area, we were seating in the dining room next to large windows that allowed the sunlight in on such a beautiful day. To drink I ordered a cappuccino which wasn't my favorite. I would prefer more foam as this one seemed a bit watered down or more similar to a latte. My friend had the nitro cold brew which I will definitely be ordering next time around. For food we ordered the pancakes for the table, absolutely delicious! Similar to crepes, had slight tang (possibly from yogurt?) and though soft they also had crispy edges. The custard and lingonberry compote complemented very well. I had the harvest bowl which came with sweet potatoes, mushrooms, pesto farro, arugula, tahini sauce and pickled red onions. Add on eggs and bacon. Was delicious, seasoned well and great option for someone looking for healthier alternatives. My friend had the fried chicken and biscuits (which I tried) and man oh man, I wish my health was good to order this as my main entree.... Maybe one day when I decided a cheat meal is needed. The chicken was crispy, seasoned perfect and juicy, biscuit was large and soft (not overworked at all). It came with a sweet and spicy glaze and herb butter that accompanied everything so well. All in all, such a wonderful spot and I reccomend it to anyone in the area for the day! read more

We came around noon to join the waitlist and waited for ~1hr. We had an issue with the waitlist where we were accidently removed when our turn was up and the staff were helpful with adding us back on. The staff were very efficient and food came fast. The table was kind of narrow and felt like shared bar seating. Granola Crunch French Toast ($19) -- 4/5: The granola bits added a nice crunch. House Hash ($26) -- 5/5: Meat and potatoes were super tender! The creme fraise sauce made everything taste great. Would definately recommend!! read more
The Wooden Spoon is a gem. It has a great atmosphere for a weekend brunch, the staff is amazing, and the food was genuinely mind-blowing. We ordered the BLT, Chinese chicken salad, and heirloom tomato salad. Everything was solid, but I'd 110% get the BLT again (the focaccia bread is fantastic). Logistics-wise, there's a QR code outside that you scan to join the waitlist. We arrived around 12:30 PM on a Saturday and the est wait was 20 minutes, but we were seated in under 10 minutes (we didn't request a specific table and got seated at the bar). read more

I picked the Wooden Spoon for a visit randomly after looking at Yelp. We arrived and were seated after the hostess checked to make sure she had space for us. I found the menu interesting. There was an egg and fried oyster dish. I've never seen anything like it, so I tried it. Let's just say I don't think oysters go with eggs. Everyone else I was dining with enjoyed their food. The service was okay, not great but not poor. The restaurant was clean. read more
Getting brunch with my friend, we decided on the Wooden Spoon! We'd both never been but were curious and love brunch. The restaurant is unassumingly spacious! Definitely cozy, with lots of wooden spoons, and vibes reminiscent of a modern diner. Super casual as well. There are multiple sections plus a bar. It's spaced out with tables for small parties as well as bar seating. Not many options for larger parties. We opted for a table and appreciated the service from all staff. We were checked on throughout, and everyone was kind! I got the Soft Scrambled Eggs to eat. These were so freaking good. I love soft scrambled eggs, and it was light and fluffy. Appreciated how much smoked salmon they gave. The flavors were on point, and the portion was generous and filling! My friend got the Morning Bowl and enjoyed her meal. There are lots of brunch spots in the city, and Wooden Spoon is a great one to try out! It's easy to miss, but not as busy as other spots, and still good. Find them off Market Street, with metered and free residential parking available nearby! read more

Been here multiple times at this point and I have yet to be disappointed. The potatoes are haunting. I think about them when im going about my daily life. The portions are generous and the food is so fresh. It's nice going back and being remembered by your server, too! The vibe is very busy and bustle in the morning, but it's not overwhelming. Also, sounds irrelevant but it so makes a difference-- the bathrooms are very nice. read more

Walked in around noon last Friday - they were still serving breakfast and offered lunch items as well. Small crowd formed after we put our names down. It's in a great location - I've done yoga around the corner and gotten laser'd next door lol. We got seated in the corner counter (my ideal spot) above the kitchen. Swedish pancakes were delish, paired w/ 2 yummy sauces - a tart lemon curd or sweet lingonberry. Short rib hash was also really good and well portioned!! Would definitely come back to try their other items:) alcoholic drinks looked good too but we got the house coffee and oat milk chai latte which were standard. read more

Went on a Saturday around 11:30am and it was packed. Three of us still signed up and got seated at the bar in about 8 minutes despite the long queue. Not bad at all. The vibe is industrial but cozy. Service was efficient, and wait time is average. And the food?Delicious. I got the house hash, and it did not disappoint; short ribs were tender, potatoes crispy outside and soft inside, and the sauce tied everything together perfectly. Well balanced, great portions. My friends loved their plates too. We also shared the granola crunch french toast and it was addicting. Highly recommend. Just be wary of wait times if you're pulling up on a weekend. After an outing to the SF SPCA, we decided to find a place nearby for lunch. The menu at Wooden Spoon looked good, so we decided to give it a try. There was no line when we arrived, and we noticed there were a few tables available. The lady behind the bar told us they would get a table ready for us, so we waited by the hostess stand. When the hostess came over, she told us there would be a 15 to 20 minute wait and we have to put our name down on the waitlist. We said okay and went back to our car to wait. Just as we got comfortable with the windows down, I received a message saying our table was ready. When we went back inside, the hostess seated us at an uncomfortable corner spot. I asked if we could sit at one of the four top tables instead, but she said no because it was reserved for a party of fours (mind you it was 2:39 and there were no one in front of us. We told her we were willing to wait a bit for another table, but she said it would be another 30 to 45 minutes. We didn't want to wait that long, so we took the corner bar table. At the end of the meal, I told my lunch companion that I was thinking of rating the restaurant 3.5 stars, but I was willing to round up because the food was really good. However, the more I thought about it, the more I felt I had to round down because of the hostess's poor bedside manner and the confusing seating experience. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, which we were told was their signature dish. It was served on focaccia with a side of arugula salad. The salad was nicely seasoned, and the sandwich was well prepared. At $23, though, I thought the sandwich was on the expensive side. We also ordered a side of crispy potatoes, which were prepared well. They had a buttery, tender center with a wonderfully crispy outer skin. At $9, I thought they were reasonably priced and definitely worth ordering. Our server was really nice and came by to check on us a few times. We were so busy talking that we didn't even get around to really looking at the menu, so I appreciated the attentive service without feeling rushed. Overall, the food was very good, and the company was even better. I felt the experience was a 3.5 star experience, and I was torn about whether to round up or down. In the end, I decided to round down because the hostess interaction left a sour taste. I just wish the initial seating experience had been handled a little differently. read more

I have been here a few times now and have had a nice experience every time. There is typically a wait during weekend brunch/lunch times, but I've never had to wait too long. I'd say a 20 minute wait is pretty standard. Walking by, you'll see quite a crowd mingling outside waiting for their names to be called. I've tried the Big Spoon and the Little Spoon. Both are solid, classic breakfast options just depending on how hungry you are. It comes with your typical breakfast spread with items like potatoes, toast, eggs your way, and jam. The Big Spoon comes with a meat option and pancakes if I'm remembering correctly. I feel like the items on the menu aren't necessarily hard to make yourself at home, but let's be real, most of the times we're too lazy to buy ingredients to cook this stuff. If you're feeling that way, this brunch spot is the spot for you. Just expect to pay SF prices for simple dishes. read more
I wanted to try a new brunch spot so this place up on yelp and I came here around 2pm on a Sunday and surprisingly there was still a wait! Parking around this area could be difficult, but luckily we got a spot. I would recommend Ubering or taking public transportation here. You just put yourself on the virtual waitlist and wait to get called. I liked the eggs Benedict, but I thought it was really overpriced. The Panini was also good along with the arugula it would be better if they had more dressing on the arugula though. The French toast was average and there happened to be a hair under the French toast. We tried to flag someone down to let them know, but the service here is not attentive and we sat at the bar too. I probably wouldn't go out of my way just to eat here. read more

No wait, no frills breakfast spot in Duboce with friendly service and standard breakfast fare. Upcharge for egg on the morning bowl was an unpleasant surprise but food came quickly and was packed with flavor. Would certainly come again with friends but won't be craving Wooden Spoon! read more

Depends what time of day. Weekday mornings should be ok - can probably get a resident spot.
Do they serve real maple syrup or is it the fake stuff like Log Cabin or, even worse, corn syrup?
It is the real deal, I checked with them and they affirmed that's its genuine maple syrup.
Does the "(v)" on the menu stand for vegetarian or vegan?
It stands for vegetarian. I went there yesterday and asked.
