I've heard the hype around Original Joe's from peers, family, and coworkers for so long, and now I finally understand why people enjoy it so much! We started off with the calamari appetizer, and it was crisp, succulent, and so good with the tartar sauce. Definitely a great way to start the meal. My friends and I ordered our entrées, and the food came out pretty quickly. We all shared our dishes with each other, which made the experience even more fun. My friends got the chicken marsala and the veal, while I ordered the marry me farfalle pasta. The veal was delicious, and although the chicken marsala was a little dry for my liking, the flavor of the dish itself was still really good. The marry me pasta was wonderful, creamy, and something I really enjoyed. Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food made for such a great dinner experience. It's famous, I remember the first time I saw it made, I was sitting at a counter and the cooks were right behind the counter in an open kitchen. So, I was looking forward to coming here, the Original Joe's, the place where this famous dish started. I gotta say the parking in North Beach is impossible, especially with the big Suburban we rented, so we just Ubered over from the hotel. This is one busy restaurant. Prices are SF high as well. But this is a company paid assignment so what the heck. I ordered the Joe's Special and my friend ordered the cheeseburger. I know, kinda ordinary, but it's supposed to be really good. I didn't get to see the food tossing cooks from where we were seated, but the food came out and smelled wonderful. My friends cheeseburger and fries came out with beefy meat sandwiched inside a torpedo like French bread. My Joe's special filled the plate. It's made with ground beef, mushrooms, onions and some other stuff. I think I taste the white wine maybe. I've had this dish before at other places, but I'll say here at Original Joe's is the best I've had. It's a real experience to come here and I'd come again. Original Joe's was on my SF bucket list and has finally been checked off this past weekend. We got reservations (which is essential) because the wait must have been hours on a weekend. Considering this is a chain, I had low expectations but some dishes really stood out to me. I loved the fritto misto (fried mixed seafood and vegetable). Super crispy and the mix of lemon and fried olives + seafood were incredible. I also loved the branzino which had copious amounts of herby butter. It was perfectly cooked and de-boned for easy eating. The side of spaghetti was nothing special. I also tried the St. Patrick's day corned beef and potato ravioli special. My worries about the corned beef being too salty ended up being unfounded because the raviolis tasted like barely anything at all. Stick to the classics because that's what Original Joe's does well and you'll be pleased to get an affordable meal in North Beach. This is definitely a popular spot. Got a 3pm reservation on a Saturday (was aiming for later but that was all that was left a week in advance) and it was popping inside. I do think they could probably accommodate walk ins though, at least that early. Server was nice but a little strange. He was so quiet we could barely hear him, and it doesn't help that the restaurant is pretty loud. But he was nice and it all worked out. We started with the arancini. It was good. Not much more to say haha. Crispy on the outside, nice cheesy texture on the inside. Now my prime rib dip was incredible. I added cheese and grilled onions and mushrooms as someone else suggested on here and I highly recommend that. The sandwich was massive and was stuffed with meat. Appreciate the side of horseradish and the fries that came with it were good too. We also had a vegan in the party. While there really aren't any options on the menu, she was very easily able to get some spaghetti with red sauce and add vegetables to it. I noted on the online reservation that we had a birthday in the party. Typically restaurants seem to ignore these things so I meant to let the server know as well. However, at the restaurant I forgot to inform our server. I was so happy when I saw him bring out a dessert for our friend whose birthday it was. I really appreciate when a restaurant keeps tabs on these things. The dessert was also delicious. It was a piping hot funfetti cake with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream. The menu here fits the bill especially with their Friday lunch special being fish and chips. Coming here a little after noon, I was led by the hostess to a window side table in the main dining room. I studied the hardbound menu before deciding on my meal. On recent visit, started with calamari and antipasto platter which were great. 8oz Filet Mignon was some of the best steak I've ever had - beautifully cooked to medium rare and tender. Unfortunately dreadfullly over-salted, even after scrapping off all the sauce. I balanced it with broccoli (not salty, perfect cook too) every other bite. Truffle mash was ridiculously good. Normally I'll only have a couple bites of mashed potato but finished this too. Butter cake was extremely sweet but the texture of the crust and flavor were great. Original Joe's has a very cozy vibe which I love. I really enjoy the dim lighting and the customer service is typically pretty great as well. The wait staff is always checking in on you - there is zero chance of you choking on food as they're so quick to refill your water. As a recommendation, if you go on a date here and the conversation is pretty dry, you should order the spicy rigatoni. It's really great and I guarantee you can talk about it for at least 20 minutes. If you don't want to talk, you can eat it slowly and savor it for 20 minutes. Either way, best decision you can make is getting this dish as the time will go by a lot faster. The serving sizes are crazy and feels extremely worth it. I split the chicken Milanese and spicy rigatoni with my partner and they split it for us. I honestly couldn't move after it was so filling for both of us. The Milanese was great and crispy and was great with the arugula paired with it to balance it out a little. The spicy rigatoni was beautifully al dente, wasn't very spicy tbh but I feel like most Italian places are like that. We also ordered some desserts the cheesecake and butter cake. The cheesecake was very light and the butter cake was very decadent and lovely (was my fave). Extremely difficult to write a 1 star especially when it's Italian American. Went here to celebrate my friend's birthday. Unfortunately was during the blackout of dec 20. But, before that happened the FD was called prior and we were delayed seating 20-30 minutes. Finally seated, we got drinks and ordered food, which took a while to order and be served because I assume they had to restart service. Veal was kind of dry I thought it might be chicken, but the rigatoni was pretty good and so was the holiday spritz. Oh and somehow with all the ingredients for the restaurant to make carbonara on the menu, birthday girl was unable to order it even though the waiter said we could order things that may have been taken off the menu. Okay... Anyway, finish the meal and the lights go out. Waited 20-30 minutes for them to get our check to us. Meanwhile smoke filling up the dining room due to the grease hood being off. Not wanting to be rude and/or just leave since we did finish and eat, I wanted to provide the restaurant with the check or somehow making the experience right with a credit or refund. Well, the only thing we were offered was a rain check dessert. Oh and the manager was right there and never apologized once. Yeah PG&E isn't your fault but restaurants are hospitality. I emailed after being nice saying I enjoyed the dining experience since again, not wanting to just drill into people and I did enjoy my friend's company, but after sitting on it for a day I got more and more frustrated and wanted a refund or at least something to make it right than a rain check for birthday dessert. Oh and I found the carbonara on an old menu. Carbonara is guanciale, egg yolk, and pecorino romano. Original Joes has been on my foodie wishlist and I finally was able to get a reservation for a late Christmas celebration. We had a 7:45 reservation, but checked in at 7:30 and got seated early. You are immediately served with their sourdough bread and butter, and it was a great way to start the meal. They also refill if you ask, which we really appreciated. To drink, I decided to give their Espresso Martini a try and it was excellent! It had a great espresso flavor, and it wasn't too sweet. It was a great way to start dinner. We also shared the truffle fries, and as a french fry connoisseur, these are one of the best french fries I've had in San Francisco! The fries were extremely thin and had the most perfect crisp, and both the sauces were chefs kiss. For our mains, we got the Spicy Rigatoni with Grilled Chicken and the Chicken Parmigana. The Spicy Rigatoni had the perfect amount of sauce, and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I'm not the biggest fan of chicken parms, but my boyfriend really enjoyed the one here! He opted for the side of mashed potatoes, and the serving was extremely generous. For dessert, we tried their bombolinis and butter cake. The bombolinis were nice and fluffy, and the chocolate sauce paired really well with them. The butter cake was extremely moist, and the vanilla gelato complimented it nicely. The service was extremely fast, we got everything minutes after placing our order which we really appreciated. My one complaint about the night is that we were seated by a large table who were being overly obnoxious and loud, and were ruining the vibes for us. I wish their noise levels were checked as to not interrupt other diners, but other than that, Original Joe's delivered on everything! Once seated we had our drink orders taken promptly and then placed in orders for food. For our meal we ordered the arancini to share, my girlfriend ordered the spicy rigatoni and I ordered the eggplant parm. Drinks were very solid - I can't remember the name of what I got but it was very good. My girlfriend got an aperol spritz that was on the stronger side but still enjoyable. Food wise - The arancini came out first and were seasoned well but came out lukewarm. In fact , everything was a little lukewarm to be honest. The pasta my girlfriend ordered was good but honestly anything we could make at home would've been better. The eggplant parm was very good from a flavor perspective - just wish it was a little warmer/ hotter temperature wise. While I do think this restaurant is cute and a nice date night spot, I don't know if the food is worth the price point. But if you're mainly going for vibes, enjoying the ambiance of North Beach, and trying to do a more mid-scale restaurant this may be an option for you. read more

The sliders could be way better , they tasted very plain and imma just say the patties didn't look as advertised on the menu , they looked small and actually like they fit the bun and the ones I got were hella thick and cooked for too long. If you guys have thick ass burgers at least ask your guest how they want it cooked , cause I did not want it well done the minestrone i'd rather get in a can at the store , that tasted way off. The fries and sprite were probably the only things not bad. So again , maybe large parties aren't your specialty or maybe it's your servers but either way , I wouldn't recommend. read more

Great place to dine with the entire family! Options for both adults and kids. All the items tasted great including the spicy rigatoni and the veal Marsala. The dessert menu was awesome with tons of options. Drinks were made great. Parking is definitely the worst but otherwise everything else is great. read more

Beautiful decor for an Italian restaurant in the middle of North Beach! The spicy rigatoni with chicken is very tasty. The pasta came out perfectly cooked and chicken soft and tender. It is a very generous portion and I couldn't finish it. So I saved it for the following day and eating it microwaved the next day it still tasted amazing. We had a big group and I wanted to note that 3 of my colleagues ordered the salmon and really loved it. So I would definitely want to order that next time. Service is excellent and food came out pretty quickly despite the chaos and crowd. read more
