    Kinmedai sashimi with white asparagus

A kaiseki restaurant in Brooklyn. Excellent service and cocktails. Flavors are on the subtle side. Disappointed that they didnt have the filefish but it was replaced with branzino. The goat cheese was very gamey. Overall a good meal but not great.

TLDR: SSAW is a new kaiseki concept from Yusuke Fukuzaki. Not super stiff but more casual, the flavors are on point. Some really unique dishes that I hadn't had at other spots. I had went to the SSAW pop-up last year and was excited to finally try it for real. The menu leaves much to the imagination as it just lists the key ingredient. It's a small spot and I'd definitely recommend grabbing a counter seat. The first dish was a suppon (soft shelled turtle) chawanmushi which my wife doesn't eat. Chef on the fly, whipped together a kegani (hairy crab) version to accomodate. That is the essence of omotenashi. Everything was excellent but a few things were stand outs for me. The black scraper dish was a hybrid plate of a sashimi and a salad. An assortment of sashimi under a ponzu vinegar jelly. It was crunchy, umami-forward, cool and so many textures. The shirako tempura in white miso was also delightful. Rich, creamy but not overly heavy. The goldeneye snapper or kinmedai in béchamel was also unexpected, especially with the Sichuan peppercorn and yuzu kosho to help balance it out. The washugyu rump served gyukatsu style but with rice crackers for breading was clever and tasty. It paired beautifully with the persimmon. It was a very enjoyable experience and it's cool to see Williamsburg getting some newer things like this. Definitely will be visiting again for the hospitality, the vibes and obviously the food.

Delicious new Kaiseki restaurant in Williamsburg! Chef Yusuke Fukuzak and his team (shoutout to Ryo Yamakazi) have an absolute winner with SSAW. Worth a visit from wherever you are. Cozy intimate counter with 8 seats and a 4 table seats -- try to grab counter seats for dinner with a date or close friends for a great time. Delicious and balanced courses, embraces the seasonal gems of the moment, everything I could wish for in an excellent kaiseki. Yamakazi-san was chatty and great to chat with. I will totally come back even with the long commute

I am torn on whether to review and expose this new gem of a restaurant to everyone! I want to keep it to myself:) It was Saturday and I wanted treat ourselves to a nice day before the snow hit. We got a foot massage at a regular local place and then went to have an early dinner. I was watching YouTube and food vloggers and was inspired to have Kaiseki for dinner. I did a search on Yelp and found SSAW not far away in Williamsburg. I was attracted by the food photos and wanted to try. Our Lyft dropped us off half a block away and we had to walk back to the unassuming small entrance. We walked in and immediately loved the warm and welcoming vibe! It is a very small space but it was comfortable and well decorated. The host was very welcoming and friendly and immediately introduced us to some Sake! We love trying new sakes so decided to add the pairing. Each bite and each sip was surprising and delicious. In the middle of dinner, I decided to book dinner for the holidays and share this space with my brother and sister in law who was visiting for the holidays in a couple weeks. I always take them to new restaurants when they visit from Atlanta. This made our weekend! We had a memorable meal and can't wait to come again!

The Highlights: * Polpo (Octopus): This was the standout for me. The octopus was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of saltiness and it paired beautifully with the creamy potatoes underneath. A very well-balanced dish. * Salad: Sometimes simple is best. The greens were incredibly fresh and the dressing was light and balanced--not overpowering at all. * Classic Tomato Spaghetti: You can always judge an Italian place by its red sauce. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, staying true to the traditional Italian style. It was simple, fresh and deeply satisfying. * Chicken Dish: The chicken was surprisingly tender and juicy. It's often a basic choice but they executed it perfectly here. Overall: Naked Dog offers a cozy atmosphere with food that feels both elevated and comforting. Whether you're a fan of seafood or classic pasta, you won't be disappointed. I'll definitely be coming back!

It's been a while since I've been the first to review a business on Yelp. Usually one of the food…read moreinfluencers swoop in quickly to review places nowadays. Bouquet is a small business that hasn't promoted much on Instagram or Eater, so it seems to have gone under the radar. I'm hoping I can do it justice as the first reviewer on this platform. We stumbled upon Bouquet during a mini bar crawl in Greenpoint. We initially planned to hit a few spots, but ended up settling in here for most of the night. We were mostly served by Eric who I believe was the owner operator. He's a NYC native who is super passionate about wine. The wine bar focuses on natural wines and other wines which emphasize minimal additives. The goal here seems to be to sell from producers who try to capture magic in a bottle. The wine list is three pages, so it's long but still approachable. There are about ten wines available by the glass. I started with a Montelpuciano. I sampled a bit and found it to be gassy and funky. The bartender was receptive to my feedback and made another recommendation - a different wine from the Loire Valley. The second option was more of what I was looking for. It was a more structured wine with a more traditional palate. I decided to eventually circle back to the Montelpuciano for my second glass. I'm stubborn and like to give a different flavors a chance to grow on me. I'm a person who doesn't like blue cheese but continually tries it just to make sure. The aroma of this wine was minerally. The best description I have is an Iron adjacent smell. Almost like blood but not the same. The flavor was earthy and rooty. It was the best part of the wine. It had a short finish. I'm no wine expert, but I can tell I was tasting something special. The last time I had wine like this was at a wine making competition. I also tried some of the wine on draft. It was an easy going wine that you could easily have a few of. We didn't have any food, but it seemed like the signature of the menu was their smash burgers. They also had some small bites like fries, cheese, olives, charcuterie, and salads. The other big items were schnitzel and the Rigatoni Alla Vino. The operator said the Rigatoni was an ode to a dish from Don Peppe's - a locals' favorite Italian restaurant in Queens. The space is welcoming. It part of the new wave of wine bars that aren't stuffy. It's about trying fun and experimental wines. Young stuff. Not necessarily hawking out for carefully aged vintages. It's fun and the team is very hospitable. Music is what I'd expect from a Queens local. Lots of 90s and 2000s hip hop. Playlist was filled with A Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kweli, and Common. They have some big speakers and turntables for vinyl records. They had a new record from Future which I suppose is something to boost for audiophiles. Acoustics here were as good as any listening lounge that we've been to in NYC. Entertainment wise, they have some board games behind the bar. No TVs inside the bar, but they have a projector in the backyard which can be used for special events. Two gender neutral restrooms. The one I used was handicap accessible. There is a step to enter the establishment, but they have a button to press in order to request assistance with entry. Good luck to Bouquet! They'll certainly be my go to for wine in Greenpoint.
