Comes with a large tartar sauce. 1.) You must try their garlic vinegar that they have in the bottles. Sooo good (if you like garlic) 2.) Prawns are HUGE! loved it. so meaty too :) 3.) Fish was nothing too special but it was nice and flaky and goes really well with tartar sauce and garlic vinegar. 4.) Scallops were nice and juicy 5.) They just battered up fresh fish right before we got there and got to watch them freahly fry the fish, fries and clam strips. You can't get any better than that. Some quick information for those that don't like to read too much: 1.) Credit cards are accepted 2.) There is seating upstairs and downstairs This was my girlfriend and mines first visit to Alki beach in West Seattle area and we had to try the local fish and chips spot. This place was recommended to us by a local Lyft driver during our stay in Seattle. The portions were decent sized for the price, but the one of the biggest turn offs for me was the charge for tartar sauce with your orders. I do not eat at fish and chips places often but I thought that this was unusual; however, the tartar sauce was by far the best part of the meal. The fish and chips were average, nothing special about them at all, but the tartar sauce was what really wowed me at this place (the biggest reason I am giving it 4 and not 3 stars). At the end of the day it was nice to try this place out due to its history in the area, but if I had the choice I would probably decide to try something else if I am in the area again in the future. read more

Made a stop at this location and was incredibly impressed by how fresh the food was. When did up getting a large clam chowder, french fries, and fish. All the food is freshly prepared and taste and incredibly fresh! I think they make most of their food in house. Customer service was also excellent along with very fast meal prep time. Delicious fish! Man it was so good! But a 40 min wait for some grab and go food, is a little extreme. Not a resident but got the tip to check out this place from a resident. It's not bad! The fish is really good but truthfully there's no wow factor to it. The milkshake is good but In N Out has better shakes. The fries are good, and sauces are pretty good. Over all it's a "pretty good" restaurant with a sweet view! I would chalk up my thoughts on finally going to Spuds because a lot of people tell me about it after they visit. However, I can't because I was with other people. We all agreed the food was boring and bland. OK the batter wasn't completely without taste but the cod fish let it down. The cod had no taste. I rather have cheaper tilapia if I need a bland white, plus it hold up better. The french fries were also unappealing. I assume the lack of a crunch and were soft was do to the how it was packed to go. The tartar sauce, which should be good, was tasteless and served no purpose other than cool the fish down to eat it soon. The bright spot and only reason the place is with going is their selection of vinegars. I like vinegar on my chips so the garlic or chili vinegar was the only thing that offered flavor. Reason for 1 star. The employees are nice so that the 2nd star. Not worth going to Spuds, better fish and chips shops exist in Seattle and better restaurants in walking distance. read more

I prefer more meat, less beer batter breading... so I should probably have gone with the fish&chips instead of the clam&chips. Clam&chips is mostly fries and a few bits of clam. Fish&chips, on the other hand, is a big piece of fish with the same amount of fries. Although the breading was thick, I'm pleased by the flavoring (and the fish is moist and done just right). The vinegars in the plastic oil bottles were amusing (and had we stayed in, I would have tried the red pepper vinegar) and the fries were pretty decent. The service was fast, and the ladies wrapping my stuff up to go where nice and helpful. The second floor did have a fairly nice view of the beach, but, why sit in when it's 70 degrees out with a nice breeze on a September weekend? We decided to pack it to go, cross the street, and choose between having sand in our pants or sit on grass that won't turn our butts green, so that we can eat while doing battle against scavenging birds. I love Spuds on Alki, it's the old standby when craving fish and chips and I have been coming to this location for years! The fish and chips, halibut and chips and oysters are perfect and so delicious . I also love their milkshakes here, better than other places on Alki. The fries are not too salty and that's a major plus for me. The chowder is decent and a good addition to whatever I order. This location you can't beat because it's in the middle of everything on Alki! Limited side parking, so be prepared to walk. Clean bathrooms . And the servers have always been very gracious. There can be long lines during warm sunny weekend, so brace yourself. My thing with Spuds , and it's not major, is the play list over the speakers . The music , somber 60s soundtrack , will put you to sleep. I think that's why I'm writing this because I'm right by the speakers. Help! But my food was yummy! read more

Today Spuds won. Sunfish another time. It was a partly cloudy day so it made walking a block ok. I imagine this place gets slammed in good weather especially summertime. I had the two piece meal. Two large pieces of fish fried perfectly. Fries were kinda soft for my tastes. The medium drink was just that. Wish more places had soda water/seltzer as regular is too sweet and diet has sucrose. Us: The only thing that's traditional and keeping this place alive right now is their clam chowder. Vell: I ordered the clams and fries this time and I swear, it was such a huge disappointment. Dirty!!! Every single table was dirty from previous guests. In the 45 min we were there not one of the employees came to sanitize anything. Several groups wiping down the upstairs tables themselves to be able to sit and eat comfortably. They weren't busy. They were sitting downstairs behind the counter just chatting. The food was ok. A nice place to get some fresh Fish & Chips in west Seattle. The staff is very friendly and courteous even during a very busy sunday lunch rush. We ordered a few different things just to try them out. The fish pieces are really big and worth the $$. They are perfectly crisp on the outside and moist and flaky on the inside. If you like cod, definitely get this. The clams are well seasoned and fried to perfection too. The tartar sauce is a little different from what you would generally expect but tastes great. They have 3 types on vinegar, garlic, hot and malt to dress the fish with. All are really good and go well with the fish. We also had the clam chowder. It was pretty good but I've most certainly had better. It was a little too watered down and lacked that strong classic flavor. Not bad but not amazing either. The chips(fries) were really bad. I'd strongly recommend NOT getting them. The potatoes were not peeled and the friend were not crispy. The shriveled up skin didn't look appetizing at all. They were also drastically over-seasoned with salt. Overall the fish here is really great and it's best to just stick to that. The ambiance gets them extra points since it's right next to the beach and whether you dine in or take it out on to the beach, it's definitely adds to the experience. I'd stop by here again and get some more of that awesome fish but I'd probably skip the sides. read more

The oysters were definitely fried fresh and my only "complaint" is that there were 5 oysters (was expecting 6). Regardless, they were delicious and there was plenty of tartar sauce to use for all my oysters. Pineapple smoothie - 4/5. I'm not quite sure how to describe this, but it seems to be a vanilla shake with bits of pineapple and a STRONG pineapple flavor. It was definitely heavy, like most shakes are, but the citrus-y flavor of the pineapple alleviated some of it. Definitely will stop by here on a "hot" Seattle afternoon if I'm craving a cold treat Three piece cod - 4/5. I was skeptical when I first came here; I was totally wrong! Being a fish and chips place on Alki, I was like, meh, this seems a little touristy. I was a big idiot, and I'm so glad my out of town parents chose to go here. Things that I loved most: 1) Fast service 2) Excellent food 3) Great view 4) Friendly staff I had their chowder in a bread bowl, and I literally ate until I was too full to eat anymore. I also tried bites of my parents' fish and chips. SOOOO yummy. I thought the price was really great for the portion and quality of the food. I'm biased because I love fish and chips but Spuds is my favorite place to get yummy seafood at a good price. The restaurant is right across from Alki Beach and has two levels to eat on if you don't want to eat outside. I normally just get some three piece fish and chips with a shake and spend no more than $15 or so. I haven't ever been let down by the quality. I will say the fries here are different - not really better or worse than regular fries - but some may find the taste/texture not the same to what they are used to. Staff are fun and friendly and don't let me down even when it is really busy. Give them a try - you won't be let down! read more

I have been going to this location for about 15 years. I feel like there have been 3-4 price increases over the last 2 years. Recently I went and the fish was smaller than usual and thin. The chowder was only 2/3 full. The entire meal cost $2 more than I paid a few months ago but there was less substance. The people behind the counter were not new so they should have realized what they were serving was less than standard. Just left me feeling sad and a little cheated. I realize businesses exist to turn a profit but it has crossed the line for me lately from neighborhood restaurant to tourist trap pricing. In general, avoid this whole area in the summer. Huge crowds at the beach and in restaurants that aren't sized to handle the volume. Criminal activity common at night and no police in sight even though it's common knowledge criminal activity is common and has been that way for decades. If you want to smoke pot and drink alcohol illegally on the beach, maybe engage gunfire or get stabby, this is the area for you. Come on down. read more

As we watched all the other orders get filled we started to grow concerned. 30 minutes after our promised order time I went in to investigate. Cool little fish and chips spot right off the beach. Definitely a good place to stop in real quick and grab a bite. Wait wasn't too long and staff was friendly. Price was good for the large portions we got. My fried oysters were great. Juicy and flavorful and not too much breading. The girlfriends clams were practically all breading. It was the only thing I could taste. It was cooked well as nothing was burnt, but just completely breading. The fries were ridiculously bland. Definitely not a best place for fish & chips. Well, not anymore. Servings became smaller, tar-tar sauce isn't eatable (and also cost ¢40 / per additional portion), and everything is so oily that you'll end up having stomach ache in 10 min after you've visited this place. Fries comes unpeeled and so heavily fried in black-brown oil, so you could squeeze out the oil dipping on your plate by just gently picking them from the plate. The fried oysters didn't come with a sauce either but the fish came with one tartar sauce. They had different vinegar with Garlic and hot spicy vinegar. I couldn't tell the difference I like the malt best. The rating is because the clams is a very small portion. Got the 3 piece combo which came with three generous sized pieces of cod which were nicely flavored. Great texture and very flakey, not the least bit oily. Fries were fresh cut and totally unmemorable. The fish pieces were able to overcome that deficit, and although not battered, and instead having what seamed like a cornmeal based breading, I still found the meal quite enjoyable. Clam chowder was also tasty, with a nice hint of bacon. F&C serving tray needs to be bigger though. read more

Wow!!! I was visiting Seattle last weekend from Oklahoma and ever since I got back home, I have literally been day dreaming about their cod fish&chips and garlic malt vinegar! The cod was perfectly battered lightly fried and crispy, and the garlic vinegar just blew my mind. Let's just say my hands smelled of malt vinegar the rest of the day.. Anyhow, this place was exactly what we were looking for. It was a diner/dive set up with an order at the counter option, and then you just wait for your number to be called. My kind of place.. this place got orders out pretty quickly and we had our food in a matter of minutes. Spud could be equated to a fast food joint but man oh man, this fish tastes fresh! I couldn't get over it! and its easy on your wallet...no waiting in a crazy line at expensive swanky restaurant here. Just good ole fish&chips along Alki beach. Disappointing is the best word for Spud Fish and Chips, and I hope they took my feedback seriously. I ordered a 3 piece cod with fries for $13. The breading on the cod was so salty I peeled the breading off and just ate the cod inside, and the fries were totally undersalted. The cashier did offer me a refund which I appreciated but declined, as I did not want to seem like a scammer trying to get free food. I just wanted their food to be better and for them to take my comments under consideration. The cashier said he got the same complaint a couple other times this week. I'm willing to give this place another chance later on and see if their food improved. read more
