This place was good! Service was wonderful and kind. There's only 3 tables that seat 2 and 2 counters that seat maybe 2-3 each. For food, I got the special, which I would recommend. It came with 2 pieces of cod, fries or coleslaw (I chose coleslaw. It does NOT come with raisins which I was very pleased about), tartar sauce, a drink, and 3 prawns. Prawns were my favorite part of the meal. Perfectly cooked. Coleslaw was pretty good, a little sweet, and helped cut all the oil. Cod and prawns were crunchy and not overly oily. My bf got the 3 piece cod which came with fries. The fries were dry, which means they were probably over fried. Clam chowder was pretty darn good. Mac n cheese was good but ultimately it reminded me of the mac n cheese I'd eat as a kid from frozen TV dinners, which made me nostalgic so not sure how to feel. Think I saw someone else say the pasta was overcooked. I wouldn't say it's overcooked but it's not al dente either. Tartar sauce is not free here! 79 cents each. I would recommend TWO containers for 1 order. I got 1 serving of tartar, which came with the special, and it was not enough for 2 piece cod + 3 prawns. We ordered another 1 serving of tartar for my bf and it was not enough for his 3 piece cod either. Overall my bf and I both separately came to the conclusion that it feels "homemade". First of all, the staff was the sweetest. Not sure if they own the Fish House but they are so friendly and welcoming. You do have to call to order (they don't have online ordering yet). The inside of the restaurant is casual with plenty of seating. Located further south on California Ave, they have better street parking in the area. They make it fresh and piping hot! The cod and prawns were perfectly breaded, crispy on the outside, but perfectly cooked on the inside (not over cooked at all!). The fries were also fried perfectly golden, crunchy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. The clam chowder though is where it's at. Don't you dare skip it because it's the BEST clam chowder I've ever had, and I've had a lot of clam chowders from many fish houses not just in WA. It's creamy, the ingredients hold their integrity, and you can taste the flavor of the good sized chunks of clams. I wish they had a larger size or I should have ordered more! What a gem in West Seattle and very much worth coming here. It's close to us (we live along Delridge), parking is easy, prices are reasonable for Seattle, food is phenomenal, and the staff just really makes this place special! Super disappointment Finally had the opportunity to try this place since the reviews are impressive. First, let me say the clam chowder was the equivelent of a few clams thrown into a bowl of flour and water. The texture was overly thick, gummy and lacked any real flavor of clam. Moving on to the breaded cod, it was essentially thick breading surrounding a super thin piece of dried out fish. The breading didn't even have any flavor - like eating out of a container of bread crumbs. And, the fries came with the fish were just mediocre at best. Adding to my frustration is nothing was included in this rather expensive meal. No little cups of cole slaw or complementary tartar sauce or slice of lemon. Everything comes with an additional charge. By the time I added the slaw and tartar to my three piece fish, my bill approached $30 - hardly worth the food this place served up. I will say the two ladies who run the place seemed very sweet -- but unfortunatly that couldn't compensate for this very disappointing experience. read more

The fish and chips were really the star of the show. The sides were such a disappointment. Cole slaw was $4 and had no seasoning, kinda watery and bland. Mac n cheese was the biggest disappointment. For $7 the portion was small with over cooked noodles and a sauce curdy and flavorless. The noodles literally stuck together while also being so brittle since it's over cooked. The Mac n cheese are pre-made, portioned into these containers and finished off by Chef Mic(rowave). At this point, we were kind of rethinking our life decisions and wondered why we walked into this establishment in the first place. Only thing that saved the meal was the fish and chips. The prawns are not to be missed if you're a fan of prawns, big and crispy! My family did a tour of Fish & Chips while in Seattle, this seemed to be the favorite of all 8 of us! We hit about 5 different fish and chips spots. Great fish, crispy light breading. Their clam chowder wasn't my favorite. Wish I could describe why, but I just didn't love it. The interior has three small 2 person tables and some chairs, but no AC, really warm on the Seattle hot days. Seems locals know to order takeout, a lot of people were in and out picking up orders. Today I knew I'd be driving past them right about lunch time on my way home, and I made my plan. The employees were super-friendly and it didn't take long at all to get my to-go order though it was made fresh on the spot. I still had a 10-minute drive home, and I can say that my order of cod and chips held up perfectly - cooled just enough to eat without burning my tongue, but the batter was still crunchy-crisp and the fries were creamy inside, just a little crisp outside like perfect British chips should be. I was tired of turkey and turkey-related food due to Thanksgiving, so a highly-rated Fish place in White Center was a great choice for me today. I read the reviews on Yelp so I came prepared with my order. The sole lady behind the counter was very nice and thanked me nicely for supporting the local small businesses. I had 2 pieces of the cod and a side of the slaw with 3 tartar sauce cups (thanks to prior reviewer's tip!). The cod pieces are very large and expertly coated and fried. They were wrapped individually in foil to keep them warm. The slaw was average but a bit healthier choice than fries. No indoor seating yet due to Covid but that's to be expected. We finally tried West Seattle Fish House and it was ok. They specialize in fish and chips and they have a very limited menu. It is also like a convenience store because you can buy small snacks (like Cup Noodles) or individual household items (like a single roll of toilet paper). I ordered the 3 piece cod fish and chips. They also have prawn or tilapia and coleslaw. This looks like a very small shop with one person taking orders and the other cooking. The lady who took our order seemed nice. They weren't busy when we arrived, but our food did take a long time to cook. They are open during COVID-19 for takeout only, so we took our food home to eat. First of all, I got an extra piece of fish which was pretty cool! My husband also got some bonus fish pieces. I do think everything was hot and crispy, but it tasted a little bit like a fried chicken cutlet (I couldn't really taste the fish). The fries were decent and the tartar sauce was tasty (although we only got one container - definitely ask for more!). We got to-go and ate at a park and it was still good when we ate. It's hard to find decent priced seafood and clam chowder, so I'm glad we found this place. This place was amazing. By far the best fish and chips I've had so far!! This is a small, hole-in-the-wall kind of place in West Seattle. The two gals working were incredibly kind and helpful (we had a party of 8 and they let us move the three small tables together to fit all of us). Not a lot of seating available, but there is a bar you can stand at and eat, or you can take your food across the street and eat on the library steps. No bathroom, so I used one across the street at a gas station (library was closed). Not pictured: a delicious cup of clam chowder, and a melt-in-your-mouth basket of prawns. Stood at the front counter for about one full minute to see who are even if anyone would come to the register. Finally decided to ring the bell. Not a good start. Ordered 2 piece tilapia and a 2 piece regular. She said a "10 minutes" then turned around and turned on the fryers. I have been in kitchens and I know to get a fryer up to even cooking temperature takes at least 7 minutes. I wondered how she would be bringing the fryers to cooking temperature and cooking a fish (8-9 minute cook time) to safe eating temperature all in 10 minutes would even be possible. No tartar sauce with the meal, it is an add on. Which is an extremely cheap way of making extra money. Order took 15 minutes and boy oh boy did the fish show it. Sloppy, messy and floppy. No way it could've been crispy within that time limit. The fries were the savior of the meal as they at least had seasoning on them and I could tell we're pre-blanched to make for a quick and easy cook time. Fish was horrible and so was the service. Won't be going back. Have 2 stars instead of just one because fries were good. Tartar was even horrible. read more
