I like that they sell a wider variety of fig plants, and was interested in one of them, but the two plants available didn't look the healthiest. I'm not sure I want to take the gamble on a fig tree that may or may not make it. The healthiest looking plants they had were their citrus trees, again plenty of variety. In the greater Phoenix metro, many nurseries are no longer independent operators, but North Scottsdale Nursery and Cactus remains an old-school place. You'll see giant saguaros for sale along with rows of ocotillo which they keep planted in the ground and not bare root (and probably dead), like you'll find at Home Depot and Lowe's. If you buy one here you can at least tell if it is alive and has leaves or not -- although for a plant that looks hardy, ocotillos are notoriously hard to transplant and at least 2/3 of them do not survive. You have to plant them then wait a year and try again until you get lucky or run out of patience. They will optionally deliver and put your plants in the ground for you for a flat rate of $200 if you are within delivery range.
